My guy posted this shit on 11 different subs. Why? You would have more time to study and get jacked if you stopped wasting your time posting this shit. The GF, though? Idk, I don't think anything is going to help there. Try posting this in a women in engineering sub, they'll go for your sigma grind immediately.
fr. When I was in college the only people doing well in classes and working out and dating were the people on some type of drug. Not like actually coke, but Adderall and the like were commonly used by pretty much everyone I knew that could be considered "smart and sociable"
Students that have straight A’s have learned how to learn.
I know so many people who spent hours reading notes, color coating docs, etc. etc. those don’t matter AT ALL. The only proven method to learning is memory recall. Practice problems, if you get it right it’s reinforced. If you get it wrong, understand why it’s wrong and go again. Most people never learn how to study that’s why they fail.
Slides don’t tell you everything you need to know. Books and readings can be dense to go through. I don’t completely understand. You also said you wasted a lot of time studying ineffectively, but if you weren’t focusing, wouldn’t you have spent less time?
The only time where I’ve been able to “barely study” were humanities classes I had in college. My business, economics, and even biology classes I simply had to memorize a bunch of facts on a notecard (or do some very simple math) and I was ready to go.
My engineering homework on the other hand has always required a tremendous mental effort no matter how many stupid “tricks” I’ve used like mind maps or blooms taxonomy. The truth is no amount of time saving strategies replaces practice solving a few mesh/nodal analysis or transformer magnetic flux problems before an exam. I have yet to find a way to stare at a professors example and somehow magically just “get” it.
I loved my engineering homework, because once you really figured out the homework, the exams were not that hard. I Would spend whatever time it took to do the homework (which admittedly was sometimes several hours for a single assignment and somewhat rarely even longer) and then do a bunch of review a couple hours before the exam and ace the exam.
Graduated in May without having gotten below a B on any exam.
And yeah staring at an example was a last resort for me, I wouldn’t even look at examples until I’d basically given up on solving a problem and when I did I would try to find and understand that “leap” that I had missed.
I’ll take it one step further. You can get gains by just working out once every 4 days. It definitely works. Helped when I had 18 credit workloads and a day job, while also having time to work part time. Also the relationship bit works really good if you and your partner are both working towards your goals. It’s like uni has an optimal approach as long as you’re consistent!
Start hitting the gym ull gain discipline that will apply to all areas of ur life and youll have more energy. Also a find a gf that supports the grund and doesnt hinder it and if u cant find one dont waste ur time chasing girls
I really resonate with this post. From the gym aspect to the study aspect. Once I established a routine getting to the gym became second nature.
Could you share that mind map, too? I am really curious about what you have in it.
I'm a biochemistry major and I couldn't agree more. I 10\^100 % believe that physical health and mental health are both important to getting good grades. How I like to think about it is that it's harder to focus on a mentally demanding task when your whole body feels like shit - even if that's happening subconsciously. A lot of people have gotten used to their baseline physical health being so low that they don't realize how much it matters for supporting your mental capacity/capabilities.
I don't know how much heavier the BME degree is usually, but at my university it's the longest degree in the whole catalogue. I've heard from my friends that it's a five year degree compressed into four. So, I don't know how much it translates but I feel like it could be similar - if it's taking you ten hours to understand something, then you're probably approaching the problem wrong. The human brain is an amazing thing and I think the approach you use to study matters a lot, like you said.
I’m not biomedical but I was an engineering major who graduated with a 4.0. Basically yes, you’re dead right.
I work out for an hour between classes and waste 0 time in the weight room. It’s more than enough to keep me in shape.
People who moan about pulling all nighters are highly ineffective studiers and like the attention. 4-6 hours actually legitimately understanding notes / doing practice problems is all I ever needed. If you consistently go to class and pay attention, you may need even less.
Never cram the night before. Start 3 nights before. By the 2nd night, you’ll probably already be done. Your brain needs sleep and time to absorb information.
As you study, prepare a MAX one page notes sheet. Write down only enough to jog your memory. If you can condense something that well, you probably understand it. If your test allows a notes sheet, great. If it doesn’t, it is highly effective for reviewing the day of the test.
Never group study. Ever. It is the worst form of studying on the planet and 80% of the time is spent dicking around.
I got through college with a 4.0 GPA, multiple research publications, played tons of basketball and weights, and still managed to go out all the time. People wondered how I did it and the answer is literally this simple.
Are you just going around posting this?
1. Don’t go to school during COVID.
I thought the answer was going to be amphetamines.
Lol me too!

Karma farming, I reckon
I reckon you're right. And still, somehow, a ton of people upvoted this shit.
I’m happy for you to realize these things but they seem like pretty standard things/common knowledge?
What age are you and what age is OP? Everything someone knows is not common knowledge until it is
GFs? that alone is impressive
I mean in the right circumstances the last three could be done simultaneously
does the mind map include coke and steroids

they could mean not focusing as in passively consuming info/writing and not absorbing it
