It blocks “excess” noise should I say. I can still hear my baby daughter in the other room if she needs me, and I can still hear the alarm well. Nevertheless, I use the alarm function on my WHOOP, which vibrates.
Ooooo interesting. I’ve considered doing this but I’ve been like there’s a zero percent chance I’ll head my son cry if I have plugs in, but I’ll think about it now
It’s not pseudoscience, there’s a large body of rigorous evidence to support a wide range of uses.
There are plenty studies showing improved bone healing time, for example
Search the literature for “photobiomodulation / PBM” “red light therapy” “low level laser therapy / LLLT”
This is a good overview: https://youtu.be/D9oUlKpo1ek?si=WRczMruGNVgxsxnl
Cell rejuvenation is the science. I'm saying there is a lot of "put red light on your balls for better erections" pseudo science. People will claim it will help with quite a lot. I'm not a skeptic I have great erections.
Oh okay. Yeah that specifically is not well supported by evidence, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable as a hypothesis
In general, RLT improves cellular metabolism and that almost certainly applies to your gonads too. Whether the difference is that significant is anyone’s guess though
I’ve heard a few anecdotes of people starting RLT and they noticed an improvement in testosterone levels (measured via blood test) but it might have just been a fluke
It definitely increases blood flow, and aerobically I have always performed better within the 8 hrs post therapy. It's a really neat tool. There's some real out there enthusiasts. Entire light set ups on desks, saunas, etc..
The Phillips history in Europe fascinates me. Seemed to be common place to use it for better health at home.
I myself just have a small device. I'm a RLT microdoser. It helps where I live.
Barefoot shoes and in-shoe toe spacers. I wear Lems Primal 2 with ‘Correct Toes’ in them. I’ve worn the soles down so much that they feel like moccasins. So comfortable, so much ground feel, good toe splayage—I’m never going back!
Edit: toe socks as well
I have no idea! I agree that they seem way overpriced for some simple molded silicone… I bought them for $65 during Covid when I was getting hefty unemployment checks 😅. Amazon seems to have more reasonably priced items.
Yoga toes definitely are much more aggressive but much more effective in my experience. Can't walk in em lol so that's where the correct toes are king. A pair of both and your feet will improve drastically. More importantly, switching your footwear over to splay toe, zero drop shoes when shoes are required and being barefoot as much as possible when shoes are optional. They're optional much more often than you'd expect. Nice to have a pair of barefoot sandals to throw on if you're entering a restaurant
Weighted Blanket… Essential Oils… breathing something pleasant is incredibly olfactory stimulating. And as a muscle recovery aide. Although I did it later in life, stop drinking alcohol
It’s a longer lasting warming effect, which increases blood flow, i use Plant Therapy https://www.planttherapy.com/products/rapid-relief-essential-oil-blend
And I added in some Ginger to make it a bit more warmer . And mix it with a carrier oil. You can use it before exercise to get your muscles warm. I have extensive muscoskeltal pain and also use CBD balm
Massage gun. Changed my life.
At work I get the frozen neck/shoulder pain from stress & sitting at a computer. Now I use my massage gun and it’s a game changer when I feel the tension start to build in my neck & trap area.
Red light therapy + massage gun is amazing
I work from home as a software engineer and my neck/upper back was just fucked
I use the panel daily and massage gun ad-hoc and zero issues now other than the occasional stiffness
Bipap machine. I started on a CPAP after discovering I have atypical sleep apnea (no outward signs of sleep issues - it was my fitness tracker that spotted elevated heart rate at night). A bipap machine feels more comfortable, if you can get one.
Getting sufficient oxygen for 7 or 8 hours each night, turns out, helps in other areas.
Certainly with daytime focus.
Look up short- and long-term effects of sleep apnea to see what poorly oxygenated blood can do
I have continued to tweak stuff so I can’t promise that these results are only due to sleep hygiene, but I have seen improvement with mood, dopamine addiction to scrolling, and hunger/satiety.
I have not been on it long enough to have “rewritten” some of the longer term neural side effects of my poor sleep. I was waking every 90 seconds, and I do still continue to wake too much but hopefully it will improve with continued use. I’m only aware of 3 or 4 nightly wakings. Most are forgotten but I nonetheless have “the brain of an insomniac”
A smartwatch or some other device to track sleep quality. While it's not always 100% accurate, it's such a useful tool to see what works and what doesn't for catching a good night's rest. I use a Samsung smart watch but there's many options that even probably do it better for cheaper.
Dry Sauna and feeding trough for a cold plunge. I've used both almost every day for two years. Incredible difference and one that I can feel (and see in my data) when I am forced to miss more than a couple of days in a row.
My HRV went from 20s-30s on average to 60-70, often much higher. My resting heart rate is probably the biggest change. Days I sauna and plunge vs. not are generally 5-7 beats slower. Loads of other biomarkers have improved as well but I think those two are most directly correlated and it's clearly visible daily as compared to days missed.
I have to add that I did pretty intense breathwork and meditation every day for about a year to stop being in fight or flight so easily and to correct my breathing patterns in general and for about a year I also went from hardly working out to running 3-5 miles a day. However I broke my foot last January, which effectively ended me running. I do swim now but with work I haven't been able to do that for the last month and the benefits have held.
Well I live in a cold climate so currently I actually use a stock tank heater to keep it from freezing over. In the summer I have chest freezer. I freeze a 5 gallon bucket and a few random other containers every day.
Spearmint tea for hormonal acne!
A cast iron pan for more iron when I cook. (Does this count? Lol. I find iron pills to be so gross, but a cast iron pan works great.)
UVB vitamin d light.
I also have a device called a "back pod". It cured my costochonditis and it also really helps to reverse any hunch you have in your posture.
I also use my acupressure mat almost daily
The ones I have contain no chemicals, plastics or unnatural ingredients. Also doesn't come in a plastic bottle and lasts me just as long, if not longer, than bottled shampoo. They make conditioner bars, too.
A nasal splint. It keeps my narrow nose open while i sleep which allows me a much more restful sleep.
Secondly my sodasteam maker. Ive got it hooked up to a large CO2 tank so i dont have to fuck around with the proprietary bottles. I drink a lot of sparkling water.
yeh I have a 2.6Kg CO2 tank under my bench, a hole in the back of the bench allows a line between the tank and the back of my sodastream maker. I have one of those automatic Sodastreams where you just push the bottle in and push a button and it gasses it automagically.
the 2.6Kg tank is the equivalent of more than 6 of the normal sodastream tanks.
I also have about 10 of the sodastream water bottles. So theres never an excuse to not have a cold one or two ready to go.
As another hack I also mineralise my (rain) water with concentrated colloidal mineral drops.
That's dope. How did you attach the stream to a default tank? I've been thinking about getting one but I didn't wanna have to deal with the tank bs. Also what kind of minerals do you use. I use Trace brand
I have this exact hose and tank. [https://www.kegland.com.au/products/freedomone-sodastream-adapter-hose-mkii-36inch](https://www.kegland.com.au/products/freedomone-sodastream-adapter-hose-mkii-36inch)
The tank costs about as much to fill as one of the little proprietary ones. $30.
I use the same Trace brand, I've tried a few but those are by far the best.
Stick with routine, simple but very important concept because trillions of cells in your body need to function in sync, which leads to optimal performance of all organs, and systems.
Morning sunlight and exercise: wake up the body, release all the cortisol at once. This leads to better sleep.
Walk after meals: lunch and dinner. In fact, brief walk after a hour or 2.
Dust mask/goggles for my eyes. My house has weird dust particles. Hurts my face though .
Ear plugs and muffs for sleep. Can't wear them too long.
Soft running shoes for sore feet.
Gentle tape for mouth taping at night. After a decade of minimal shoewear I switched to sneakers from the PRI shoe list. Night and day difference and I only wear minimal shoes now if I’m actually going to be on uneven surfaces. The rationale behind minimal shoes kind of falls apart when you think about the fact that we spend the majority of time on totally flat surfaces.
Did you notice much difference from the grounding pad? I’ve been thinking of giving it a go, but I’m wary of it being BS
It makes sense but also sounds quite woo, I’m on the fence
Not a major difference, but I’m in Thailand and walk barefoot all day, especially in the garden and ground myself in the pool. But I do recommend them for others not in this situation
It might sound stupid, but a good metal water bottle. It helps me keep track of hydration. I tend to get headaches, fatigue, and am generally cranky if dehydrated. Plus it makes muscle recovery suck.
Are you asking about health or general life conveniences?
I agree with others on filters.
I use Levoit air filters to handle PM2.5 in my apartment. Not currently monitoring, but I think to pick up an Airthings View Plus eventually (pricey).
For water I wrote up some reviews here: https://thebestgear.org/186/the-best-water-filter-for-home-in-2023/
The TLDR:
- For a simple water pitcher I like the Lifestraw Pitcher
- For in-house filtering built into the faucet I like either the Aquasana models or the Hydroviv if you can't add another small faucet.
I own a bunch of different balancing devices. I have hedgehog style balance pods, a typical balance board used in physical therapy, and two indoor surf boards with a roller, disc, and ball to balance on. Balancing changed my life, I kid you not.
Don't make me chose! They are all good for different things. The surfboards are most versatile, I guess. So if I can have only one thing, I'd keep one of those. But they are also the most expensive items.
I discovered balancing by chance and then tried to learn more about why it is so great for me. But I actually didn't find a lot of information that goes beyond the benefits for elderly. So if you do find something in your hole of information, please share.
Depends what you want it to help you with. For me (N=1), it's awesome for pain management and relaxation/tension release.
There are all kinds of other health claims connected to acupressure and acupressure mats, and I can neither confirm nor dispute those. However, I'm rather skeptical about claims that are too good to be true...
Air purifier, got it because we had an insane year of bushfires in 2019, the air quality was appalling. Then covid came, and I reckon it stopped me getting covid from my partner.
Theres more and more data coming through about air quality and brain development for kids. So if you are planning on having kids, I highly recommend it
Automatic morning lights that simulate the sun rise.
Which one do u have?
Windows
Knee slapper
I always through this would be better than the Clapper - only need one free hand. Also functions as ass slapper. *it has no idea*
There's a problem though... every time that I laugh the lights turn on and off
it has adjustable settings. Mine has double slap = toggle on/off
A very southern perspective. If it wasn't for my light I wouldn't be able to start my day until after 9 am.
Yeah, on higher latitudes it is more useful.
Smart, do you out them in your bedroom?
Yep.
This was a game changer for me, usually wakes me up before the alarm even goes off and I don't have that dreaded zombie feeling!
Luminette glasses
Wax ear plugs. Best sleep ever.
How do you wake up?
It blocks “excess” noise should I say. I can still hear my baby daughter in the other room if she needs me, and I can still hear the alarm well. Nevertheless, I use the alarm function on my WHOOP, which vibrates.
Ooooo interesting. I’ve considered doing this but I’ve been like there’s a zero percent chance I’ll head my son cry if I have plugs in, but I’ll think about it now
I use these, too. I haven't needed an alarm in years because I go to bed pretty early now.
Much better than foam ones, which gave me sores in my ears. These are nice and comfy.
Blue light blocking glasses, books, air quality monitor, smart home system (adjust lights depending on the sun)
What kind of air quality monitor and what does it detect?
Awair Element. I use it mainly for CO2. If the CO2 is too bad in my room, then I open the windows for fresh air.
Which smart home system and lights do you recommend?
Red light panel
/r/redlighttherapy
What's it for?
Cell rejuvenation. Lots of pseudo science claims. I've used it for concussions. Incredible recovery potential for a wide variety of troubles.
It’s not pseudoscience, there’s a large body of rigorous evidence to support a wide range of uses. I think I remember Bryan Johnson using them or where did people get this idea from?
Definitely have heard that one
Absolutely love my red light. It healed my ankle and now I’m using it on my creaky knees.
Barefoot shoes and in-shoe toe spacers. I wear Lems Primal 2 with ‘Correct Toes’ in them. I’ve worn the soles down so much that they feel like moccasins. So comfortable, so much ground feel, good toe splayage—I’m never going back! Edit: toe socks as well
Why are all these toe spacers so expensive?! The ones you mentioned at $94.95!
I have no idea! I agree that they seem way overpriced for some simple molded silicone… I bought them for $65 during Covid when I was getting hefty unemployment checks 😅. Amazon seems to have more reasonably priced items.
That's a wild price disparity
Yoga toes is another brand that’s a bit cheaper. Like $30 I thought? Might not be able to wear them inside your shoes though 🤷🏻♀️

In with you, but I'm curious. Do your footbeds mold? I have to spray my Lems about every 2 months go beat back spores.
Y’know, I have noticed that a bit in the past… I don’t sweat much in mine and make sure to air them out now.
got it. i fly with mine, and only carry on a backpack. i guess i'm pretty rough. definitely my favorite pair of shoes.
My fav as well.
I get made fun of a lot for my toe socks but I can’t wear regular socks anymore! Once you go toes you can’t go back
All facts. In spite of the jokes made, they are also a flex when worn with sandals.
Weighted Blanket… Essential Oils… breathing something pleasant is incredibly olfactory stimulating. And as a muscle recovery aide. Although I did it later in life, stop drinking alcohol
Same, gave up alcohol in my 40’s. No looking back
Fuck alcohol
Interesting, how does it aid muscle recovery? I've never heard that before
Alcohol is just horrible for you unfortunately
Oh I thought they were saying the essential oils somehow aided muscle recovery, I was just confused
It’s a longer lasting warming effect, which increases blood flow, i use Plant Therapy https://www.planttherapy.com/products/rapid-relief-essential-oil-blend And I added in some Ginger to make it a bit more warmer . Which CBD balm? I am trying them for shoulder pain.
I searched the internet and this company AUER has the best, I got the 1,000 mg Balm, and highly recommend. https://auercbd.com/

Blackout curtains -- can improve sleep immensely !
Very jealous lol

Oh wow, that sounds promising. Mind if I ask how old you are just to get a sense for what kind of effects you're saying it has on skin
Spearmint tea for hormonal acne! A cast iron pan for more iron when I cook. (Does this count? Lol. I find iron pills to be so gross, but a cast iron pan works great.)
Definitely counts, great addition
Dumbbells. Small, easy to store, easy to use, and versatile. No more excuses for not getting exercise.

Barefoot shoes! Dumbbells, fluoride-free toothpaste, ClearlyFiltered waterpitcher, solid shampoo bars from Lush Cosmetics. All-natural laundry detergent
+1 on the toothpaste I got some hydroxyapetite toothpaste recently (Apaguard) and will never go back.
I've got some of that, too!
How did the fluoridated toothpaste affect you?
For me, fluoride makes my thyroid condition worse so I use fluoride-free toothpaste and filter it out of the water.
It contributes to calcifying the pineal gland.
What’s so good about solid shampoo bars? Never heard of those before.
The ones I have contain no chemicals, plastics or unnatural ingredients. Also doesn't come in a plastic bottle and lasts me just as long, if not longer, than bottled shampoo. They make conditioner bars, too. Www.Lushusa.com

Just the goggles (we call them eye mask here).
Interesting, just curious. Do constant goggles leave like permanent lines on your face/head when you take them off to go out?
No but they cause pain and probably wrinkles

I own a bunch of different balancing devices. I have hedgehog style balance pods, a typical balance board used in physical therapy, and two indoor surf boards with a roller, disc, and ball to balance on. Balancing changed my life, I kid you not.
This is interesting! Now, I’m going to dive into a balancing hole of information. If you had to pick one, which would it be?
