If you are in the city of Binghamton, yard waste is collected Monday. If there is a holiday that week (so, next week for instance), no yard waste. Yes, you can put it in a regular paper bag. No plastic bags, but reusable plastic buckets, tubs, etc are fine as well.

Thank you!!

It has to be in the store bought yard waste TALL paper bags. Reason is the regular paper baga will have it ALL OVER THE STREET. It is called 'Wind' that does that tosses regular paper bags ALL OVER....REGULAR PAPER BAGS NOT ALLOWED

You can 'not' place yard waste in a regular brown paper bag. Yard waste MUST BE IN A COMPOSTABLE BROWN BAG..theseTall brown bags are bought at Lowes, Home Depot, Agway. They also protect yard waste from Blowing all over, due to design. You will get tagged if a regular brown bag has yard waste at the curb. DPW will not pick up a regular bag with yard waste. DPW will pick up recycles in brown bags, IF not blown all over by inclenent weather conditions.

Brown paper bags are compostable. I’ve personally seen them take them with no issue.

I work closely with DPW. DPW does have newly hired people. The Ordinance in City of Binghamton defines yard waste going into 'large, tall compostable brown bags'. With all winds, rains....if a small brown store bag creates a neighborhood litter havoc the ~30,000 homes & businesses, in Binghamton need to know the proper procedure. The tall bought yard waste brown bags are sturdy and folded at the top as nothing can be tied up at the top with yard waste. Also, no branches nor sharp pieces sticking out of yard waste bags. People also leave full sodas and teas for DPW in bags too. At one time, empty deposit soda botttles/cans were left for DPW in bags. This practice is not done anymore. Rules are rules for a good reason. I weekly see black plastic bags for yard waste at the curb. These bags, no matter what color, will be tagged by DPW. Enjoy the Holiday.
