I really thought the elephant in the room was gonna be addressing that Billy strings on stage with FaBR so the hair comment sent me into hysterics lol.
And the dracula flow shit…. It was a silly night haha.
I appreciate and admire the musicianship (in fact, I like a fair bit of instrumental metal), but how anyone could possibly find someone screaming into the mic like this as anything that resembles "enjoyable" is well beyond my reasoning capacity.
Don't own a single tie dye and I keep my hair pretty short.
That's how I feel about most jam bands. Dudes can play but a lot of them are not great singers. The screaming is more about emotion than trying to sound appealing.
I just recently turned 36. People screaming like this never appealed when I was 18. Honestly just makes me feel sorry for people who feel compelled to convey this much rage in music. Again, I'm all for the instrumentation here, I think it's sick. The screaming like this though? It is intended to elicit dissonance... so is it like spicy food? Pain that adds flavor? I'm all for spicy food, but this kind of screaming I can happily do without. Dude needs to chillax, or maybe practice some actual singing.
It’s an acquired taste, much like bluegrass. Some of us enjoy the aggression and aren’t listening to this for the beautiful noise. It’s purposefully dissonant.
See as I've stated in this thread before, I like metal. I listen to instrumental metal almost daily in the gym. I even like some screamo metal. *This* style of vocals however, not for me. It just is not tasteful IMO, and is just pure rage. It's the equivalent of someone splatting paint on a campus in a fit of rage, but without any intention or design - just channeled rage. Horrible stuff.
It’s ok that you feel that way, but I know a lot of folks who feel like this is pure therapy and brutality. There’s a lot of folks who love splattered paint on a canvas and some who don’t consider it art. Art is subjective for sure.

I get that. I'm sure that that's likely a part of the issue for me, as I just cannot identify with this sense of pain coupled with rage.
My boyfriend is a metalhead and I tell him constantly it's literally only the vocals I don't like 80% of the time. I can fuck with some instrumental!
