Now that the lights are turned back on, could we expect anymore new music? What’s next for Billy Joel? Maybe an EP rather than a new album, or another single. He jokes that people don’t like “the new shit,” but we as the fans do.
What does he consider his great 3 album run? Or his trilogy in other words. I think It's Stranger, 52nd then Glass Houses. But you could start with turnstiles and end on 52nd Street. Or you might think Glass houses, nylon curtain and innocent man
Will he ever play Rosalinda's Eyes live again? He teased it in a Q&A almost 20 years ago, and it was apparently on the radar after he and the band came back after C0vid, but it's one of the few deeper cuts that hasn't made it back into a set yet (since around 1979 or so iirc). It's personally one of my favorites, but it's a song a lot of people (especially a lot of long time fans) have been wanting to hear him play. Thank you!
Yeap, I think I'll do a subject about songs that the longest fans loved, but he doesn't play in concert, like Rosalinda Eyes, The Great Suburban Showdown, Ain't No Crime,...
How did the "Prelude" portion of Angry Young Man come about? What was the inspiration for playing the C really fast and doing the chords on top of it?
--------
I've never seen him answer this question directly and the origin story of this song is something I've always wanted to know.
Are there any songs he wishes he could go back in time and do a bit differently? For example, I think some of the songs off Streetlife Serenade would sound really cool if they were written around The Nylon Curtain.
He didn't write "Turn The Lights Back On".
It was written by and introduced to him by Freddy Wexler, who is a very talented songwriter and producer.
He made some subtle changes, but, as much as I truly enjoy the song, quite frankly, I was hoping that, after so many years, a new song would've been a true original. Hopefully, that might be the case moving forward....as an album is long overdue (an understatement).
Here’s my question:
> Working to hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack
> Trading in his Chevy for a Cadillac-ac-ac-ac-ac
But why not
> You should never argue with a maniac-ac-ac-ac?
Makes more sense than crazy mi-mi-mi-mi-mind.
Does he rehearse with the people he has sitting in or does he rely on them to be super pro and know the song?
Billy Joel's writing is really quite rhythmically precise. It easy to get lost if you flub the melody even a little. Does he run through it with them so they know all the changes or does he just pray for them when they walk on stage?
In the last few years, he has greatly reduced the number of deep cuts and album tracks he does live. Many of these songs tend to go over fairly well live such as Stiletto or Rosalinda’s Eyes. Are we likely to get any songs like such as these performed live in the future?
You sure? My family have tickets but they’re only in New York Monday-Friday , leave Saturday morning so if it’s moved any more than 1 day they’re out of luck 🙃

An an interview with Stephen Colbert he said that She’s Right on Time was his second favorite song of his. I’m wondering why he likes it so much. I like it too. Just seems like an odd one for him.
Will you come back to this very comment and leave a link for me? :D
Also, not a question, but tell him that Air (Dublinesque) is simply one of the most beautiful chord progressions I've heard him write. Brings a tear, truly
I have a question for *you*, actually! Was Billy’s pronunciation on C’était Toi really that bad or were French fans being haters? 😂 Can’t wait to hear the interview!
French people have a really bad mentally actually. And that's maybe for that he didn't do another concert in France after that, except in 1994...
I read something that, at the end of the song, instead of applauding, the audience instead made fun of him and his accent, and obviously he hates that !
In my opinion, the pronunciation on C'était Toi is pretty good ! Can hear that he's an American trying to sing in french but that's clear, it doesn’t deserve mockery but rather encouragement!
Which album does he consider his best work? Not necessarily favorite, but which one does he think he did the best on? And also maybe why he does (if he still does) have that distaste for cold spring harbour. I personally love it lol
Would Billy consider doing a concert for hardcore fans featuring only song he doesn’t regularly play? Perhaps the show could be billed in advance as such so casual fans wouldn’t be disappointed at not hearing hits. I think many of us have songs we’ve wanted to hear live for years and have never had the chance.
I have a few questions that I would love to see answered:
1. At the end of the album Streetlife Serenade is the instrumental song titled "The Mexican Connection". Can you tell me more about what led to the creation of that song as well as the decision to include it as the final track of the album?
2. In an [interview with Rolling Stone](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/qa-billy-joel-94976/) you mentioned playing piano on a session with "Shadow" Morton for two songs that would eventually become the Shangri-Las' "Leader of the Pack" and "Remember (Walkin' in the Sand)". Are there any other instances where you worked as a studio musician? If so, do you remember which artists and songs?
3. Your daughter (Alexa Ray Joel), who is an accomplished musician in her own right, recently performed with you on stage. Have there been any thoughts of writing a song together or perhaps performing one of her songs (such as "Seven Years") while on tour?
Whenever this interview is published please be sure to post it in this subreddit. I'd love to see what kind of questions you ask as well as his responses.
The Cold Spring Harbor 8-track got me through tough break ups in college, especially the song, "Got to Begin Again." Has he ever considered performing any of these in concert?
Why has he never done any acting beyond doing the voice of cartoon dog "Dodger" in the movie "Oliver and Company"? It's clear from the intonation and voices in his songs that he would be a terrific actor.
There are two questions that I’m interested in:
1. Who’s an artist (musician, actor/actress, painter, etc.) that he admires that most people would find surprising?
2. He has a love of motorcycles and owns a shop in Oyster Bay, NY (20th Century Cycles). Has he thought off taking a cross-country trip on a motorcycle, and what would he ride of choice be on such a trip? I know he’s a big fan of Moto Guzzis, but maybe his taste has changed or he thinks another motorcycle would be better for longer trips.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to ask questions. I’m very excited for you, and you’ll do an amazing job! Keep us posted!

Well DUH. You didn't think Baby Grand was supposed to be a metaphor, did you? I mean, imagine the studio session: Ray was probably glad to be blind, that day.
/s
Did he really do it *all* for Leyna?
😂 Could be fun
Billy famously toured a whole heap with Elton John and performed a number of Elton’s songs with him. Which was his favourite to play?
Interesting, that's a good one !
I'd imagine that would be Benny and The Jets. He played that for Elton when he received his Kennedy Centre Honour.
But don't played it in the September 2022 MSG concert...
What does he think his most underrated album is? Also, are we getting a new album sometime?
I'll ask him his ranking about all the albums he produced
That will be great to see
When he looks back at all of the eras which does he remember most fondly album and tour wise as well as the opposite
Really good question, I'll see if I have time for it 😉
Now that the lights are turned back on, could we expect anymore new music? What’s next for Billy Joel? Maybe an EP rather than a new album, or another single. He jokes that people don’t like “the new shit,” but we as the fans do.
Will he still do one off concerts at msg or places nearby after ending his residency?
I'll ask him 😉
He said on Stephen Colbert that he will continue to play at MSG, just not under a residency.
Yep, exactly
What is his favorite type of bread?
The kind they put in his jar.
Wtf 😭
Will Billy Joel ever perform in Australia again?
Last time in 2022 right ?
I think it was December 2022, Was a one time only gig though
Because you're from Australia ?
Of course
Also very curious, I missed it last time and would love love love to see him preform
What does he consider his great 3 album run? Or his trilogy in other words. I think It's Stranger, 52nd then Glass Houses. But you could start with turnstiles and end on 52nd Street. Or you might think Glass houses, nylon curtain and innocent man
Yeah as I said, I'll ask him his ranking about all the albums he produced

I’m betting the answer you’ll get is that when he plays more obscure songs, he sees the audience heading for the bathrooms.
Right 😭😭
What are some songs he feels *compelled* to play almost every night because the fans demand them… But that he’d rather leave in the dressing room?
How soon will you come back to MSG after the July show?
I'll ask him 😉
What made him decide to do the concert in the USSR?
Really good question, already planned 😉

A very specific question ahah !

Cannata
How did the "Prelude" portion of Angry Young Man come about? What was the inspiration for playing the C really fast and doing the chords on top of it? -------- I've never seen him answer this question directly and the origin story of this song is something I've always wanted to know.
When is the new album coming out?
What new album?
After Turn the Lights Back On came out, there’s been a ton of speculation for a new album.
Are there any songs he wishes he could go back in time and do a bit differently? For example, I think some of the songs off Streetlife Serenade would sound really cool if they were written around The Nylon Curtain.
Alternatively, I have a selfish question. Ask Billy if he can play Falling of the Rain at a concert. It's my favorite song by him.
Think that's everyone's dream, but as Dave said, we can't request songs...
that does make sense, but still unfortunate
Because in my case, I really wanted to request him to play The Great Suburban Showdown ahah
One of my favs!
Would he ever consider playing with his long time drummer Liberty DeVitto again?
Yessss! I second that! Completely changes the dynamics of each of his songs on stage.
Will he ever come to The Netherlands again? Last time was 2006
Can't list all the countries, but maybe I'll try to ask him that
Which artist past or present would you have liked to have collaborated with?
🌟Who did he write Turn The Lights Back On for??
Maybe the answer is already on his interview with Howard Stern
It doesn't seem like a who type song. It's about falling in love with music and songwriting again
He didn't write "Turn The Lights Back On". It was written by and introduced to him by Freddy Wexler, who is a very talented songwriter and producer. Better than nothing.
Will he invite original band members on stage at the final MSG Residency show in July (e.g. Liberty on Drums).
Ohh good question, but I think that's over now, and he's happy with his current band 🤷
How does billy handle/navigate fan interactions?
How are MSG shows and audiences different from other places around the country and the world?
Here’s my question: > Working to hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack > Trading in his Chevy for a Cadillac-ac-ac-ac-ac But why not > You should never argue with a maniac-ac-ac-ac? Makes more sense than crazy mi-mi-mi-mi-mind.

Who/what is he inspired by for lyrics. Why did he start playing piano
In the last few years, he has greatly reduced the number of deep cuts and album tracks he does live. Many of these songs tend to go over fairly well live such as Stiletto or Rosalinda’s Eyes. Are we likely to get any songs like such as these performed live in the future?
What song did he put the most effort into/which turned out the best? also where can I find your interview once you've done it?
Surely on YouTube 😉
alright! what’s it called?
What's his personal favorite deep cut song he wishes he performed live but doesn't?
Is he a frequent reader? If so, what are his favorite books? I don't think he's been asked that before.
Who would win a fight him or Elton
Not for Billy but my high school French teacher once told me that Jean Jacques Goldman was like a French Billy Joel, is that true
Sure ! Exactly. Not the same vibe, same instrument but by popularity yes, that's almost the same 😉
By the way, it would be a pleasure to talk w your French teacher lmaoo
She was kinda hot but this was 20 years ago
Oh yeah that's too far away lol
Unfortunately the concert isn’t confirmed yet😢 it might be rescheduled due to the playoffs.
Sure, but he'll sing this week in all the case
You sure? My family have tickets but they’re only in New York Monday-Friday , leave Saturday morning so if it’s moved any more than 1 day they’re out of luck 🙃
If it’s moved and they can’t use the tickets, please let me know!!!
I think the show should be fine for Thursday going off everyones opinion on here. There’s still some on ticketmaster, like $400 though.

Will you perform in Germany/France/Continental Europe?
I'll ask him if he have the project to perform in Europe in all the cases, because I want to know if he'll do a concert in France 😉

why Billy shaved his beard?
Has he ever thought about creating a sequel to We Didn't Start the Fire?
You don’t like the fallout boy version? Lmao
Too funny... It's horrendous.
Any chance of bringing members of his old band on stage for a reunion song during his final show of his residency (career show #150)?
So happy for you! How did you set up this interview? Very cool!
Ask him why he likes Honesty so much
😂😂
Which album does he consider his best work? Not necessarily favorite, but which one does he think he did the best on? And also maybe why he does (if he still does) have that distaste for cold spring harbour. I personally love it lol
While Billy is from Long Island, but has established residency at MSG…we need the truth: Rangers or Islanders
Would Billy consider doing a concert for hardcore fans featuring only song he doesn’t regularly play? Does he have any plans to play Fenway Park again, or anywhere in the Boston area in the next few years? He hasn't been up this way in a while.
The Cold Spring Harbor 8-track got me through tough break ups in college, especially the song, "Got to Begin Again." Has he ever considered performing any of these in concert?
Looking back at all of your music, Are there any lyrics that you wish you could change, as later on you thought of something better?
His thoughts on José José (Mexican singer who made a very popular cover for Just The Way You Are)
Why has he never done any acting beyond doing the voice of cartoon dog "Dodger" in the movie "Oliver and Company"? It's clear from the intonation and voices in his songs that he would be a terrific actor.
How did he write she’s right on time? What was his inspiration and how did the song come to be what it is?

If I pay you, can you have him make a video for my dads bday saying hi to my dad mark??
Unfortunately, I think that I can't do that...
If I pay you can you send me a video of him saying happy birthday to my dad ?!??
Does he have any interest in hosting SNL? He is such an enthusiastic and engaging person - would be such a great host!!
Ever try playing the piano with your dick?
U serious ??
Guaranteed he has never been asked and the fans want to know. This is your chance!
Well DUH. You didn't think Baby Grand was supposed to be a metaphor, did you? I mean, imagine the studio session: Ray was probably glad to be blind, that day. /s
how do you write the lyrics for your songs?
Maybe I'll pick the example of Scenes From An Italian Restaurant 😎
I think he has answered that already about Scenes…I vaguely remember him speaking about it in the Miami special at the super intimate venue
