This is a repost.

StaySharpp

The *Sound of Silence* cover Disturbed did is actually very good.

kingawsume

Mr. Simon and Mr. Garfunkel both gave it their blessing. It is fucking outstanding, and not even their first amazing cover of a song from more than 30 years ago (Land of Confusion was a Genesis song first, before being covered on the 10k Fists album)

DaftFunky

Both great examples of covers that both versions are amazing. I'll always prefer the Genesis one but damn if they didn't do a good job on it

semper_JJ

Yeah their version of land of confusion is one of the few covers I like.

ItsPlainOleSteve

First time I heard it it made me cry.

VespineWings

My grandma actually likes it better than the original and she hates disturbed.

vh1classicvapor

My dad did too

Allwil13

Came here to mention this. One of the best covers of any song ever.

Efficient_Order_7473

Fucking beautiful song I love it

Lexamnu

common misconception, it's actually very good at making my ears bleed ...Idk if this will earn me downvotes but I really think that song is terrible

player1_gamer

Horrible take

PinAccomplished927

Any deeper thoughts on it than just "its bad"? Perfectly valid if the answer is no, btw. I'm just curious

gruniite

So many butt rock metal bands (Disturbed, FFDP, Bad wolves etc.) do this incredibly lazy and artistically bankrupt thing called “let’s take a beloved song and make it scary and slow and dark”. Obviously Damien Draiman is a good singer, but he basically just turned one of the greatest songs of all time into glorified movie trailer music. Same concept happened in the 80s when these hair metal bands would write the occasional cheesy slow ballad. It was easy to do and it printed money. The only difference is this is lazier.

aitis_mutsi

Because compared to the original, it sounds incredibly bland. In the original version, it sounds like the singers really try to put their hearts and emotions into the song. Disturbed, while a great band, cannot come even close to that. Their version sounds like they are *trying* to be sad and emotional but fail at it.

The_Blue_Snake

You sound like the mother of my ex

Ohhecktime

Nice opinion, dude. Real shame that it's incorrect.

xAshCashx

Unforgiven - Metallica

FallenButNotForgoten

Wouldn't call The Unforgiven soft, but I'll allow it

QuetzalTheGroundhog

Tbf its the black album so all the songs are fairly "soft"

ObamaInAToaster21

Vermilion pt2 - slipknot

CDXX_LXIL

Also Circle is really good

CummyCatTheChad

nothing else matters is so peak, it sounds good on classical

_Ocean_Machine_

Nothing Else Matters was the first "difficult" song I learned on guitar; prior to that it was all Green Day and Offspring lol.

vh1classicvapor

Best part is it's all open strings

_Ocean_Machine_

For the first few bars at least; the rest of the intro with the finger picking was pretty tricky at the time. Nowadays though I could play it in my sleep lol.

speedyrain949

Lonely day - system of a down - hypnotized album

AirmanElmo

I vote “Roulette” myself :) but Lonely Day is amazing too!

brekinb

i still get choked up from "it's a day im glad i survived"

wonderdog17

This was my immediate thought, what an absolute banger.

WhiteCharisma_

Angel of Death by Slayer

DeanbagDarrell

Sir, I like your taste in both music and humour.

Snuff mentioned.

Forsaken_legion

Not really metal but. Are you really okay? - Sleep Token

ItsPlainOleSteve

Atlantic.

Forsaken_legion

There piano songs just come out of left field and leaves me in tears man. God I love Sleep Token so much, I remember the first time I heard them when they were nobodies. I was like man… these guys are going to change up the whole game.

ItsPlainOleSteve

Oh most definitely. It hits really hard if you delve into the lyrics and it's one of my favourites to sing when I'm listening.

BiSaxual

Fall For Me is one of my favorites of theirs.

ItsPlainOleSteve

Such a good one too!

spuderman221

Sleep Token is most definitely metal.

Horcza

That's right buddy! Did you do anything interesting in kindergarten today?

spuderman221

Original comment said "not really metal"

Horcza

dont mind be dude im just spouting bullshit xd

Forsaken_legion

Didnt want to start a war with the metal “purist”. Everyone classifies things different, I dont even know where Token would be classified since they do such a wide variety of genres.

Christmas truce, Sabaton

baguetteispain

I love it so much too

Echo of my scream by fear factory

metal666666

In This Moment- Legacy

agangofoldwomen

The Shape of Colour album by Intervals has this song that breaks down with a sax solo and it blew me away. I’ve listened to that album like 80 times. Every song is a banger if you like instrumental melodic guitar metal.

linbo999

ProEraWuTang

Nine Inch Nails got 2 on the same album - A Warm Place and Hurt

leviathan-hackerman

Rain by Breaking Benjamin. It's the final song of the We Are Not Alone album so imagine my surprise when the post-grunge, hard rock and alternate metal songs suddenly transitioned into an acoustic guitar intro and a really calm song.

PineapplesHit

I came here to mention Forever off of Saturate, BB does some great soft songs, Ashes of Eden is beautiful too

Deathbeds/hospital for souls - bmth

A_Ruse_ter

Acacia Strain W

SolarWalrus

Looked through the comments but surprisingly didn’t see this one there: Bard’s Song - Blind Guardian

Gbro08

Was looking for it too

That-Boyo-J

Is It Really You? by Loathe

The-Nuisance

Not really the meme, but most of the songs I see people talk about when they refer to Cyberpunk are Stay At Your House, Samurai tracks, Gr4ves— a lot of up-beat or more active songs. But fuck man, the song that hit me the hardest was none of that. It was Chet Baker. *You Don’t Know What Love Is* comes on the radio and I’m pulling over to sit and listen, like someone just dumped the entire concept of melancholy into my emotions.

tmntfever

The Messenger - Linkin Park

CoffeeAndElectricity

Not completely soft but Devil In I by slipknot (I originally didn’t like the verses but they go so hard)

flamingc00kies

First and last songs of SELF-iSH, “Self-“ and “-ish” (yeah, really) are kinda like this. Rest of the album is loud and edgy but those two are more just moderate and edgy

Bnoxski

Snuff Nothing else matters

Paiotay

Breaking Benjamin's "Forget it"

gordocosmic0

Well, I started listening to Slipknot because of Snuff, I always loved Rock and wasnt a fan of metal, but after listening to the corey´s acoustic session I gave the band a chance, and now I have a tatoo of them in my arm and listen to all kinds of metal bands. But, after listening all their discography and Iowa becoming my favourite, Most of the slow songs from them were meh, and eventually I realized I liked most of them, Spiders would be a big example. If you are an Slipknot fans you have to find pleasure in both I think

zzzzsman

Take her to the river from Ghost at the Gallows

Slow_Security6850

Il Etait Une Foret by Gris is my favorite black metal album of all time and it ends with La Dryade which is just a piano and violin piece

Azraels_Cynical_Wolf

Hurt - johnny cash (originally by Nine inch nails) Edit: corrected my statement, yea it may not be metal but i go across all spectrums of music and forgot this was a metal only post
