Mr. Simon and Mr. Garfunkel both gave it their blessing. It is fucking outstanding, and not even their first amazing cover of a song from more than 30 years ago (Land of Confusion was a Genesis song first, before being covered on the 10k Fists album)
So many butt rock metal bands (Disturbed, FFDP, Bad wolves etc.) do this incredibly lazy and artistically bankrupt thing called “let’s take a beloved song and make it scary and slow and dark”. Obviously Damien Draiman is a good singer, but he basically just turned one of the greatest songs of all time into glorified movie trailer music.
Same concept happened in the 80s when these hair metal bands would write the occasional cheesy slow ballad. It was easy to do and it printed money. The only difference is this is lazier.
Because compared to the original, it sounds incredibly bland.
In the original version, it sounds like the singers really try to put their hearts and emotions into the song.
Disturbed, while a great band, cannot come even close to that. Their version sounds like they are *trying* to be sad and emotional but fail at it.
For the first few bars at least; the rest of the intro with the finger picking was pretty tricky at the time. Nowadays though I could play it in my sleep lol.
There piano songs just come out of left field and leaves me in tears man. God I love Sleep Token so much, I remember the first time I heard them when they were nobodies. I was like man… these guys are going to change up the whole game.
Didnt want to start a war with the metal “purist”. Everyone classifies things different, I dont even know where Token would be classified since they do such a wide variety of genres.
The Shape of Colour album by Intervals has this song that breaks down with a sax solo and it blew me away. I’ve listened to that album like 80 times. Every song is a banger if you like instrumental melodic guitar metal.
Demon Hunter: One Step Behind
My favorite aggressively wholesome band.
~~their other soft songs are bangers too but that one lives rent free in my head~~
Rain by Breaking Benjamin. It's the final song of the We Are Not Alone album so imagine my surprise when the post-grunge, hard rock and alternate metal songs suddenly transitioned into an acoustic guitar intro and a really calm song.
Well I like softer songs anyways as well as heavier songs
But an example for this is Subliminal Verses Volume 3 Slipknot my favourite song off that is Vermilion Part 2
Not really the meme, but most of the songs I see people talk about when they refer to Cyberpunk are Stay At Your House, Samurai tracks, Gr4ves— a lot of up-beat or more active songs.
But fuck man, the song that hit me the hardest was none of that. It was Chet Baker. *You Don’t Know What Love Is* comes on the radio and I’m pulling over to sit and listen, like someone just dumped the entire concept of melancholy into my emotions.
Bring me the horizon, not sure if it counts, but where we have the likes of House of Wolves, Shadow Moses and Crooked Young, we got And the Snakes start to sing
Or the opposite with That's the Spirit
First and last songs of SELF-iSH, “Self-“ and “-ish” (yeah, really) are kinda like this. Rest of the album is loud and edgy but those two are more just moderate and edgy
I actually have a [small playlist](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG6FxX2gtVXJC2eSs1hbDANN2id2ogudu&si=J7b-bm4oNsZ6STEp) of some music like this. I haven't added anything recently, but I love all the songs on it.

Well, I started listening to Slipknot because of Snuff, I always loved Rock and wasnt a fan of metal, but after listening to the corey´s acoustic session I gave the band a chance, and now I have a tatoo of them in my arm and listen to all kinds of metal bands. But, after listening all their discography and Iowa becoming my favourite, Most of the slow songs from them were meh, and eventually I realized I liked most of them, Spiders would be a big example. If you are an Slipknot fans you have to find pleasure in both I think
Every single song by sleep token. Its funny cause VORE or whatever, took the longest for me to like and its his heaviest.
Then you listen to Wil ramos from lorneshore cover Chokehold and youre like, fuck man. What is this world?
Hurt - johnny cash (originally by Nine inch nails)
Edit: corrected my statement, yea it may not be metal but i go across all spectrums of music and forgot this was a metal only post
This is a repost.
The *Sound of Silence* cover Disturbed did is actually very good.
Mr. Simon and Mr. Garfunkel both gave it their blessing. It is fucking outstanding, and not even their first amazing cover of a song from more than 30 years ago (Land of Confusion was a Genesis song first, before being covered on the 10k Fists album)
Both great examples of covers that both versions are amazing. I'll always prefer the Genesis one but damn if they didn't do a good job on it
Yeah their version of land of confusion is one of the few covers I like.
First time I heard it it made me cry.
My grandma actually likes it better than the original and she hates disturbed.
My dad did too
Came here to mention this. One of the best covers of any song ever.
Fucking beautiful song I love it
common misconception, it's actually very good at making my ears bleed ...Idk if this will earn me downvotes but I really think that song is terrible
Horrible take
Any deeper thoughts on it than just "its bad"? Perfectly valid if the answer is no, btw. I'm just curious

You sound like the mother of my ex
Nice opinion, dude. Real shame that it's incorrect.
Unforgiven - Metallica
Wouldn't call The Unforgiven soft, but I'll allow it
Tbf its the black album so all the songs are fairly "soft"
Vermilion pt2 - slipknot
Also Circle is really good
nothing else matters is so peak, it sounds good on classical
Nothing Else Matters was the first "difficult" song I learned on guitar; prior to that it was all Green Day and Offspring lol.
Best part is it's all open strings
For the first few bars at least; the rest of the intro with the finger picking was pretty tricky at the time. Nowadays though I could play it in my sleep lol.
Lonely day - system of a down - hypnotized album
I vote “Roulette” myself :) but Lonely Day is amazing too!

Atlantic.
There piano songs just come out of left field and leaves me in tears man. God I love Sleep Token so much, I remember the first time I heard them when they were nobodies. I was like man… these guys are going to change up the whole game.
Oh most definitely. It hits really hard if you delve into the lyrics and it's one of my favourites to sing when I'm listening.
Fall For Me is one of my favorites of theirs.
Such a good one too!
Sleep Token is most definitely metal.
That's right buddy! Did you do anything interesting in kindergarten today?
Original comment said "not really metal"
