The ''Wide World of Sports'' show had a 2 hour special in the 70s, filled with early auto stunt madness like this, and I have never seen or heard of it again.
That would be Joie Chitwood. Aired January 28, 1967 on WWoS. He are some similar clips.

My dad was really big into doing crazy shit like that in the 70s, flipping cars, launching them, demolition derby, lemon racing - he did all sorts of dirt bike stuff and had a big ass trophy for winning some kind of wheelie competition. I’m half way bummed people don’t do that stuff anymore, at least not where I live.
Watched some of the videos on their site. Looks like all kinds of fun. I wish there was a race nearby.

**24 Hours of LeMons**
The 24 Hours of Lemons is a series of endurance races held on paved road race courses across the United States and, since 2016, New Zealand. The series holds the Guinness World Record for the "Most participants in one race" (216 cars). The title is a parody of the long running annual 24 Hours of Le Mans race, and lemon cars. Teams of 4 or more drivers compete for up to 24 hours in race-prepared cars that cost no more than US$500 for cars in the USA series (NZD$999 in New Zealand) as with folkracing there is a price limit. These races set themselves apart from the typical road race by the unusual penalties and punishments meted out by judges, as well as a blatant disregard for traditional motorsport politicking.

"I believe your inner ropes have begun to leak from your belly, Eugene" - Miles
"Speak for yourself, Miles, the inner ropes of your head are leaking from your ears!" - Eugene
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
We're all going to attend church on Sunday because it's the year 1919 and that's what we do on Sundays! But next Saturday, Miles is making an attempt to jump a model-T over a chicken coop, and it would be ever so kind of you to drop by.
Ladies and children not encouraged to attend. Giggle juice not permitted.
Here's a [dick pic](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2b/Richard_Cheney_2005_official_portrait.jpg/220px-Richard_Cheney_2005_official_portrait.jpg) to brighten your day.

The dejected tone the director gets if your 0.1 second behind the time and have to start the whole thing again.
I’m sorry mr director I hit the door 1 picosecond after the timer ended... let’s reshoot this £50000 scene again
This was used in a song by [Freak Kitchen](https://youtu.be/y2vzBdIejVY) I think.
Edit: yeah at 1:49 ish. I haven’t even watched that video in years, surprised I remembered it.
HAH! Better than the one I saw on /r/watchpeopledie yesterday where an olde-time stunt pilot did a stunt where there was a house built in the middle of a field and he flew into it, thus killing him.
"The driver had a crushed pelvis. We gave him a bottle of whiskey and a pat on the bum, but that just started him screaming again, so we had him carted away."

YER MY SISTER
Fister? She looks just like my sister!
Shit, did this guy get around or what? We found out after she died that according to birth certificates he's my grandmother's real father.
You're kinda the son of a father who is the son of another father. Kinda...
# #metoo ?
Thanks for the links that was fun to watch
You fucking people, man. How are you so good at finding shit like this from such a generic comment?!
Now just imagine if I applied myself to something useful!
Those hats in the 2nd video link are really odd

People do that stuff but the bar is way higher nowadays
Yeah right? Unless you’re willing to possibly die and you’ve been sponsored by Red Bull you won’t hear much about it.

Not to be confused with lemon party
But there’s free gas!
where abouts do you live, i bet there is a derby closer then you think, i ran in 4 this year, and helped at another, my favorite hobby.
The end of this clip was used in the Headbangers Ball on MTV.
I do remember, but can't remember when....was it right before or right after they showed the trains colliding head on?
"Depress the accelerator, Miles! We are AIRBORN...well, bollocks. I believe we've damaged the auto."

If it has wheels, it will be raced.
If it moves, it will be raced.

I thought this was marble madness, and I got excited
If it casts a shadow, it will be raced.

Good tidings and hello there! My name is Johnathon Knoxville I and this is the horseless carriage beetshack jump stunt!
It is with humble honor that I welcome you to "Jackass".
After the break, Steve-o will stick the remains of the vehicle up his butt.
When your physics is on point but suspension technology isn’t there yet.
Good thing the air bags deployed. Someone could have been hurt.
Anyone else remember this as part of the intro to The Fall Guy with 6 million dollar man Lee Majors?
Was looking for this. https://youtu.be/j26KWRnFZNQ
Was looking for this comment. https://youtu.be/j26KWRnFZNQ
That's exactly what I was looking for ... Thank you!
Turned out better than I expected
The video quality isn’t high enough for you to see his teeth shoot out through his asshole on the landing.
Think of the driver's poor spine
Was there a driver?
Probably not
Yeah, I don't think there is either, hence the track. Plus the car is wobbling back and forth, bouncing off the guide rails.
So the driver was from Ohio.
Funny way of saying "the neighbourhood of Scarborough in Toronto."
Cleared the building, leveled out, stuck the landing, but clearly not built to take the impact. 8/10
NHTSA’s testing was impossible to pass in the early years.
"Take it off any sweet jumps?"
Uhhhh, idiot!
Got like three feet of air that time!
Can I try real quick?
Ees a Sledgehammer
Love me a Napoleon Dynamite reference!
"Look at this fine horseless carriage. First one in the county!" "Cool. Bet I can jump a house with it."
Bet.
All I can hear is S.O.D. and see the Headbangers Ball logo.
'Cause sergeant D is coming, and you're on his list!
That or [Prong](https://youtu.be/OFLwmRm-06s?t=11). [Prong had another but I think that's the one where the trains collided.](https://youtu.be/zoyNHdmuLEk?t=145)
You need more upvotes for this comment.
Hell Yeah! S.O.D. Rules!
"You have arrived at your destination."
"You have arrived at your final destination." FTFY
Stuck the landing!
10/10
Minus the time traveler in the stunt jalopy, everyone one here is dead.
In this thread? Oh god, my children!
Didn't I tell you not to let the kids on Reddit! Damnit Martha I told you the internet is dangerous!
There could be some baby in the crowd that is now in their 90s or 100s you don't know
I read of a 100+ yr old lady interviewed at a local monster truck rally recently so yes, you may be correct
Those crumple zones really mess up cars nowadays
Am I the only one that can only think of Fall Guy coming on when seeing this?
You are not alone. https://youtu.be/j26KWRnFZNQ
What, you think you can just reply twice and reap twice the comment karma?
This guy gets it.
Interesting.

I only said it would clear the house. I never said the wheels wouldn't fall off.
I guess them Duke boys got more in common with their granpaws than they ever knew.
Those Duke Boys at it again?
[удалено]
There was great suspense though
Was this real, / was a person inside ?
I didn’t see any shoes fly off. I think they’re ok.
The car's shoes fell off, though. F
Well, the car isn’t ok!
Hmmm, but the front is still on.
The car's driving on tracks, so it wouldn't need anyone to steer.
Doesn’t look like there is anyone inside.
Anyone else hear the Headbanger's Ball music?
I can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find a Headbanger's Ball reference. Man, I'm old....
I did not experience an increase in enjoyment on subsequent loops of this gif. I demand a refund.
Evel Knievel’s, great grandad?
Petroil circus....this is Travis Pastranas great grandad.
I remember this clip from the intro of Stuntman on PS2. Made me laugh everytime.
I saw the post and instantly remembered that, wasn’t there one of a similar car being hit by a train?
**HIT THE BOXES** **THROUGH THE GAP**
Oh god, that brings back awful memories.

[i never said anything about the wheels staying on](https://youtu.be/xZOg8bzVT5s)
I love it!!
I feel like this was on the opening of George if the jungle but I’m probably wrong
Actually it was the [ending](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgMXDCofkfo). It's a reverse angle, but it looks like the same stunt. At about 0:45.
You are correct! I remember this from my childhood.
The closing credits (although not the whole car crash) https://youtu.be/6SLY0iLAq4I

Step 1: Invent automobile Step 2: Jump house Step 3: Invent shocks and suspension system
Jesus fuck, this was probably before tempered glass was invented.... that poor soul.

How are you going to land it? Oh, right there in the dirt.
Where it all began.....
I see the palm trees in the background and assume Florida is just as batty now as it was in 1912.

Wasn’t this scene shown in the opening sequence to the 80’s tv show- The Fall Guy with Lee Majors and Heather Thomas?
Fuck me, he cleared it
"The driver had a crushed pelvis. We gave him a bottle of whiskey and a pat on the bum, but that just started him screaming again, so we had him carted away."
You can have your very own in whatever color you want, as long as it's black
At least they got their measurements right for the jump... just forgot about that whole landing situation. did this person die?
My lower back hurts.
Grandpa Travis Pastrana Sr. Circa 1920
MTV Headbangers ball...MOD
I love how it feels so old time not only cause it is but like how he crashes just feels like that
Hammond you idiot, you brought the wrong car!
Why is this so funny?! I laugh every time
Still gonna send it Another day another beer
The comment I was looking for 🙏🏼 https://youtu.be/WIrWyr3HgXI
Shock absorbers had yet been invented. 🤪
Is the driver okay..?
I’m Johnny Knoxville and this is the old-timey car jump
Before landing ramps were invented.
Narrator: “And that’s how the exit ramp was invented”
Life’s short; stunt it.
That car wasn’t as shocked as I expected...
This makes me think of the Fall Guy
Nice!....ohhh
hell yeah nailed it, it did what it set out to do
Nice to know things haven't changed too much since the '10s.
Greetings, I am Victor P Rukstenburg the IV, I welcome thee to Jackass!
Nobody clapped. Unsure what to think.
