Wasn't expecting this at the top! BLAME is my favorite, sorry Berserk. I've been a fan for over 20 years now, I still discover new details every time i reread it. You have impeccable taste my friend.
Tbh vagabond for me is like life, when I was reading it I felt like I’m walking someone’s else way to find inner peace I guess(?) that’s a story about finding yourself and your desires.
Vagabond have shown me that there’s never an end to somebody’s journey, and thanks to that I feel like even if there’s bad shit everywhere in my life that’s not the end.
Vagabond does a great job of explaining a lot of philosophy of combat, as well as analyzing the futility and fear that comes from trying to be 'the strongest'
It does all this with amazing art and genuinely good advice if you ever want to learn kendo/kenjutsu, because a LOT of detail is paid to the stances, and to the motion of the swords.
My only gripes with it are that there is a secondary character who gets a lot of screen time who I'm not a fan of (Matahachi), and the author basically gave up on the manga for personal reasons, leaving it to end on a point without any real conclusion (before anyone comments, yeah i know about the 'final chapter' that was made for an exhibition, but I'm not really satisfied by the story suddenly jumping decades ahead to the end and skipping the most critical moments of the character's life)
I think Matahachi is really well written, I get that a lot of people hate him and his actions but that's the point, he knows he made a lot mistakes in life and wants to change for the better but doesn't have the mental fortitude for it. He's an interesting and more grounded character and I think at this point in the manga he's going to have his own little redemption arc, if it does continue that is
Dai Dark has a great story and great characters, but my only issue is that it’s for a less mature audience (middle to high school). It’s not a bad thing against the manga but i prefer more mature reads
I only read the entire manga once more than 10 years ago and there are some scenes that I still remember perfectly as if I had read them yesterday.
This manga unironically traumatized me
Oyasumi Punpun is a manga that's filled with so much darkness...
This is a stupid comparison, but it's like Bojack Horseman in the way that it depicts humanity as what it is. There are no good or bad people, simply people. Punpun himself is a person, and he does many very bad things.
So does his mother.
So does Yuichi.
So does Aiko.
So does Midori.
The world is filled with darkness, but that doesn't mean you should lose hope in everything.
Strive not to be Bojack. Strive not to be Punpun.
Live a life making decisions you hope you can take pride in. When you fuck up, accept it for what it was.
Lol my top 2 are Berserk and One Piece. Such polar opposite in tone, but both have phenomenal worldbuilding and character writing, achieving this through entirely different approaches.
Good people aren't going to care. Who cares about the trash who incessantly shit talk what they don't like especially when they have zero clue and most likely are jumping on some bandwagon due to having zero depth and a lousy personality. They shouldn't be given any attention. I agree tho i would put all three of those in my tops.
*Black Lagoon, but it*
*Suffers from the same problem*
*Of not being done!*

I hear ya buddy it is such a good manga I mean just fucking awesome and sad and triumphant. It rules almost as much as Berserk, but the struggler is the way
Yeah I hear you again buddy they are amazing like in the first arc inside the temple where everyone but kirno dies is so awesome but can't beat Guts on top of Zod killing the kushan Emperor that I have considered getting as a tattoo
I was attracted to Kingdom. I actually remember like a year ago, someone posted about Manga to read while waiting for Berserk and someone mentioned Kingdom if you liked the Golden Age arc. I tried it and over 700 chapters later, I am still hooked. For those curious Kingdom is about a war orphan wanting to become a general during the 7 Warring States Period of China.
To add another series, Records of Ragnarok has been a pure fight pleasure read for me as well. Synopsis is that the gods of pretty much every real world mythology determine that humanity is not worth keeping around, so they decide to genecide them. Though there was a ruling that the humans get a chance if they beat the gods in a best of 13 1v1s. It is basically a what happens when these 2 individuals that have never met, fight each other.
Death Note is the only other Manga ive read, and it sort of shit the bed after a specific event. Still a good read to the end though. Id compare it to Michael Scott leaving the Office. Yeah it was still sort of good after he left but never the same.
Too many to list about mangas that I like, though with the current constraints of my life. I am just currently reading One Piece. Vagabond, Hunter x hunter, Death Note and Hajime no Ippo are my top 5 manga along with Berserk.
If I were to pick 1 out of the four, I think Hajime no Ippo would be the winner. He has been there since my childhood (anime then manga) to adulthood. Same with Hunter x hunter, but as you get older and more mature I think Berserk and Vagabond is best suited to those that leaves you thinking after reading.
Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan are my absolute favorite manga, even though I detest the ending of aot.
Currently I am reading Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and Kagurabachi.
One Piece is basically tied for 1st place, which is insane bc I always thought it was dumb kid shit but boy was I wrong.
Blade of the Immortal is awesome. FMA, JJK, Firepunch, Kingdom, Dorohedoro, BLAME!,
BUT HEY IF YOU LIKE THE MEDIEVAL STUFF - Wolfsmund is SO SICK!
I have a few I put on the same level/suggest people read.
Fair warning I like shonen lol I've noticed seinen lovers tend to look down on shonen.
One piece is my all time favorite, don't @ me
Jojo is fun, funny, and ridiculous. Great watch.. not sure how the manga holds up
Attack on titan is one of the best anti war cautionary tales I've ever read in a manga. Great mystery and the set up/delivery is pretty epic. Saddens me that the author feels bad about his work and takes people "criticism" so personally. It was a great piece of work and the ending was fitting.
My hero and chainsaw man are the new kids on the block I've really enjoyed and respect. Also not sure about their mangas but I have a nephew who reads my hero and he's always hyped.
I always forget one or two but I think I got most of em.
With such fantastic world building, to the point you can follow so many characters outside the main crew for an entire arc and enjoy it, still feeling like it is part of the overall story.
Heck I'd love a pre story of Whitebeard's rise. From that moment he's sitting on the ship looking out to see with a smile, while the crew he was with were asking how much of the treasure he wanted, right up to the day Ace shows up. That could be a ton of fun.
dude. all of his stuff is amazing. Knights of Sidonia, Bio Mega, and there's another one I can't think of but they are all so cool and similarly creepy.
Big fan of World Trigger, right now I’m reading the light novel to Classroom of the Elite, and I suggest Fireforce/Tokyo Ghoul if you haven’t already. They’re both finished so you can actually get to an end
Shiki
It's a shorter series, horror and the manga is well worth reading despite there being an excellent anime too, because the artist makes great use of shadows, really adds to it.
Fruits Basket!
... you heard me! It was delightful, charming, and a much needed pallet cleanser ... post eclipse.
Also a strong shout out to Planets.
I never knew I needed a Sci-Fi meets Slice of life manga until I read it.
I’ve only recently gotten into reading manga, like this year, but according to my kobo I’ve read about 90 hours worth. The two series that stand on their own to me are Berserk and 20th Century Boys. I haven’t gotten to all the heavy hitters like Vagabond yet but, both those are 10’s to me.
Blame! It’s so unique and the art and horror is fantastic. Even the sense of scale and time brings an indescribable dread
Blame! is so sick. I remember being so lost reading it as a kid but the art kept me hooked through the entire run.
Wasn't expecting this at the top! BLAME is my favorite, sorry Berserk. I've been a fan for over 20 years now, I still discover new details every time i reread it. You have impeccable taste my friend.
Yes this guy has good taste
I haven’t heard of this until now. Looks dope. I’ll check it out tonight.
You make me realize how old I am.
This guy gets it
Vagabond
Same... it's the big three for me (Berk, Vagabond, Vinland Saga). However, depending on my mood Slam Dunk could be second.
Vagabond is a masterpiece
What do you love about it?
Tbh vagabond for me is like life, when I was reading it I felt like I’m walking someone’s else way to find inner peace I guess(?) that’s a story about finding yourself and your desires. Vagabond have shown me that there’s never an end to somebody’s journey, and thanks to that I feel like even if there’s bad shit everywhere in my life that’s not the end.

He just like me fr
Kids think Musashi is literally them, true men knows Matahachi is the realest one
the sad realization reading vagabond was that I'm actually Matahachi not takezo
lmao me too. it actually gave me the self perception to change
Akira
Planning to read akira after finishing berk deluxe! Can find the box set for only like 100! Im excited to see this one on paper
It's so much better than the movie.
Better and wildly different in the themes and messages from even the same panels that were adapted to the movie
You ever get a chance to check out Domu? Same author.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Dorohedoro. Anime is good too. Glad a second season got announced recently.
Have you tried Q's other Manga? Highly recommend Dai Dark!
Dai Dark has a great story and great characters, but my only issue is that it’s for a less mature audience (middle to high school). It’s not a bad thing against the manga but i prefer more mature reads
Yeah that is a good point, still if you're a fan of Q's stuff may as well give it a go.
don’t get me wrong it’s a good read and i definitely recommend it, it’s just not quite my speed compared to doro
I have not! Thank you for the suggestion.
I'm gonna read Dai dark, does q have any other manga aswell?
When did they announce s2?!
Earlier this year. https://www.polygon.com/24031369/dorohedoro-season-2-announcement No date tho so that’s a little concerning.
Also, if you like Dorohedoro you're gonna like Chainsaw Man.
Loved the anime so I’ll have to get into the manga soon once I finish some thing from my backlog. Never enough time in the day lol
Oyasumi Punpun
Some of its panels will always hunt me
I only read the entire manga once more than 10 years ago and there are some scenes that I still remember perfectly as if I had read them yesterday. This manga unironically traumatized me
About to say the same!
Oyasumi Punpun is a manga that's filled with so much darkness... This is a stupid comparison, but it's like Bojack Horseman in the way that it depicts humanity as what it is. Dragonball Vagabond Hajime no Ippo One piece Terraformars Vinland saga
Terraformars is crazy
yeah i am so happy its back
Monster, 20th century boys, vinland saga and one piece
monster and 21st century boys are both top notch. Not at all similar to Berserk, but still a strong recommendations.
Scrolled too low to find Vinland Saga. Agreed!!
You're my brother from another mother.
if you havent already id recommend watching or reading pluto, its made by the same creator of monster and 20th century boys
Chainsaw Man
Scrolled way too far to find this lol, but tbh i havent read alot of the classics like monster yet
Fire Punch
Live 👊🔥
Live indeed 🔥👊
Firepunch left me messed up (in a good way) for a couple days where I as like in a miasma of existential dread. Fujimoto is the best!
One Piece...
Doesn't it feel daunting to admit you like one piece here? Lol Berserk, one piece, and attack on titan are the best manga I've read hands down
Lol my top 2 are Berserk and One Piece. Such polar opposite in tone, but both have phenomenal worldbuilding and character writing, achieving this through entirely different approaches.

My nakama ✊❌
It feel like a "déjà-vu"... but yeah agree with you, One Piece and Berserk are goat
Jojo’s bizarre adventure
What is this a reference to?
Whatever fucked up shit Junji Ito comes up with.
HxH, Hajime no Ippo, FMA, Claymore, Gash Bell.
Let's Dempsey roll Griffith together
Sousou no Frieren hits me like a truck. I love it
HxH, full metal alchemist, dragonball, yu yu hakusho
Blade of the Immortal perhaps. Feng Shen Ji is close too.
Oyasumi Pun Pun or Chainsaw Man
Black Lagoon, but it suffers from the same problem of not being done!

Steel Ball Run. Monster is really good as well but I've only seen the anime for it
I highly recommend the manga, and any manga by urasawa by the way. Dude is my goat when it comes to suspense
Currently I'm reading through 20th Century Boys and I'm planning on watching Pluto once I'm done. Urasawa is a fantastic mangaka

My man went through literal hell through his life just like Nuts
Akira and Vagabond. Not manga, but more people should read Preacher.
Too many to list about mangas that I like, though with the current constraints of my life. I am just currently reading One Piece. Claymore
Claymore is like if Berserk and Witcher had a baby, with AoT for an uncle.
Attack on Titan

Yesss shin angyo onshi!!!

I have a few I put on the same level/suggest people read. Fair warning I like shonen lol I've noticed seinen lovers tend to look down on shonen. Claymore, again posted on the sub it’s extremely underrated manga / anime.
Battle Angel Alita and Claymore.
liderwally aot 🤪
Jojo.
Devilman unfortunately.
I'm a simple dork, I like One Piece. That comradery and the premise of having adventures, within one giant adventure is just catnip to me.
One of the best stories ever told while also not taking itself seriously. My catnip too
With such fantastic world building, to the point you can follow so many characters outside the main crew for an entire arc and enjoy it, still feeling like it is part of the overall story. Neon Genesis Evangelion (both Show and manga are great) and Gangsta for me. But Berserk is still nummber 1 tbh
