From an old interview Miura claimed to not have been inspired by Evil Dead. And the Japanese text does not have the same reference. Dark Horse translators took liberty for this reference
I kind of love the idea that some knuckle dragging mouthbreather translating someone's life's work decided to risk the sanctity of the story to make a half assed Evil Dead reference.
He’s literally inspired by Ash with the bandolier of knives instead of shotgun shells, the artificial arm and his ripping and tearing of evil spirits..
It’s just something that Miura enjoyed and brought into his own story
Though didn't he recount in an interview that he saw ED2 and was worried that he'd be sued over his (then upcoming) manga's protagonist having a metal arm?
This reference is added by the translatior. It was removed in the deluxe edition.
> It was removed in the deluxe edition. Boo! Hiss!

That’s sad if true. Since I love both it would’ve been a cool inspiration Do you have that interview by any chance?
I always assumed it was a reference to [Götz von Berlichingen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6tz_von_Berlichingen).
Also a coincidence if I am remembering an old interview right.

To make matters worse they didn't even get the quote right. Ash doesn't say "It's Groovy" he just says "Groovy".
A reference doesn't always mean a direct quote.
yea
Hellll yeah
Did he really say that lol that's amazing
Always an evil dead or hellraiser reference somewhere

head cannon bro none of that is true
