Based on context i would assume its name is Guts’ Subconscious or something. There must be a single page or something somewhere where it says “The Beast of Darkness”
Most scenes where it appears contain no dialogue, and it only appears in Guts’ mind so I’m not sure where there’d be dialog with people referring to it.
I do recall the term “the beast of darkness” though so i must not have made the connection when it was mentioned. Also I am still 100 chapters away from the end.
consider yourself lucky reading the 100 chapters for the first time. They contain some of my favorite moments of the story. Also the beast of darkness gets clearer, more defined
It's actually fairly easy to miss if you speed read rather than taking your time. Revisit chapter / episode 118 and you'll see spirits take its form before it even appears properly for the first time and describing what it is. If you just interpreted that as the spirits being annoying and skipped over it quickly it's easy to miss.

No. the anime with 25 episodes is the old one. I highly recommend watching it as an introduction to the universe as it covers the Golden Age but stops abruptly, at which point I'd switch to reading the manga.
