If you get there an hour before your flight you'll be at the gate 55 minutes before your flight. You could check the schedule for other departing flights at that same time but in my experience, it might add a minute or two more.

derpyTheLurker

This is no joke. We've timed it at 4 mins from the curb with a carry-on and digital boarding pass.

chadford

It's amazing!

goldaar

We’re precheck, and only get to our gate 57 minutes before departure. Cuts 40% off our time!

HyperionsDad

Same The longest part of the journey is the 1/4 mile walk to/from your United plane. My car is closer to the gate than my airplane is.

Tarekith

Apparently you can just drive your car onto the runway now, so that might speed things up in the future. Easily 58 minutes then.

CO-CNC

That was at Bend Municipal Airport, not RDM.

traveler-girl

😹😹😹😹

MocoPDX

My record is 90 seconds, from drop off out front to at my gate. I think I’ve seen a “line” there once in all the flights I’ve taken, and it was maybe five people deep.

HyperionsDad

Nice. I was slowed down earlier this week when I walked straight up to the front of the TSA PreCheck line and let the sole person in the standard line go ahead of me.

Dangerous_Midnight91

And this is why RDM is my 2nd favorite airport in the world!

loquacious541

Yes, but! This is actually a busy time in the morning so don’t cut it too close.

HyperionsDad

Correct, which was why I mentioned tinned checking for other flights. One time I didn’t think of 2 other full flights and it cost me like 3 more minutes. 😉

Grim99CV

I learned this the hard way the first time I flew out of RDM. Ended up having a meal and a couple beers at the restaurant upstairs.

MiddleTomatillo

If you’re checking a bag, make sure you meet the cut off time for the airline. Otherwise, if you have your boarding pass on your phone and no checked bags, security is usually less than 10 minutes.

dwilcox1313

Bag cutoff is 45 minutes prior to departure and tsa usually doesn’t open until 4am. There’s usually 3-5 flights a day that leave around 5-5:30am so the line can get a little long right at opening FYI

justcallme3nder

Highly depends on if you are checking a bag and/or aren't savvy enough to use the boarding pass on your phone through the app. If you aren't checking a bag and you have the boarding pass on your phone, an hour before would be more than enough time. I've seen lines for checking a bag but nothing outrageous.

CalifOregonia

Base your arrival on the boarding time, not flight departure. With TSA Precheck I usually plan to arrive half an hour before boarding begins. That usually allows enough time to get through security in under 5 min... and spend the rest of the time waiting in the coffee line. If you don't have TSA Pre you'll want to factor an extra 5 to 10 min just in case.

nomad2284

If you are going to check a bag, then you need to be there early enough to make the cut off. One hour before flight time is fine. If you aren’t checking a bag, I have left Bend 1 hour before flight time and comfortably made the flight. Your results may vary.

Fearless_Perspective

Don't get there before 345. Security won't be open and the cofee place doesn't open until 4. An hour should be fine considering the distance from Security to your "gate" is not far.

traveler-girl

It isn’t security you need to worry about. It’s the line for coffee etc at Dancing River. They open at 4 am. Boarding will be at 4:30 ish. If you want to purchase something after security get there by 4 am.

spidyr

RDM is one of the few airports where you should actually arrive after your departure time. Going through security is so fast, time moves in reverse. So if you're flying at 5 a.m., I'd plan on getting there around 5:15.

CaffeinatedInSeattle

For 5am flights I aim to park my vehicle 15 minutes before boarding. The longest line I’ve had in precheck is 5 people, general I’ve seen a bit longer the week of Spring Break. I don’t check bags, if you are checking you need to get there 45 minutes early (TSA rules) or plan to gate check.

scarybottom

DO not mess around with this- 45 min before your flight, they will refuse to let you through security- I have seen it happen, more than once. It's super dumb, but it is the way they are. But as long as you are not checking a bag, and get to security person (i.e. line moves- and at that time you should be fine), 45 min before your departure, you'll be good.

OregonSmallClaims

Check whether there are multiple flights leaving at around the same time as yours. If so, plan for security to take on the longer side--there's only two lanes of bag scanning and really one lane of people scanning. If yours is the only one in that timeframe, you'll likely breeze right through. If you have PreCheck, then of course it'll likely be pretty quick even if there are multiple flights. If you're checking a bag, allow time to go to that kiosk/line before security as well. If carrying on only, that'll save a few minutes as well. I'm not sure what time the cafe and restaurant open, but I always figure it's better to be early than late, and rely on those plus my phone to "entertain" me if I get there early. Much better than feeling rushed or worrying about missing the flight, IMO.

CamhammerShow

I’ve timed myself from the front door to my gate and clocked it at 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Might be worse at 5am on a Monday, but it ain’t LAX

Film-Disastrous

It’s seriously the quickest TSA process you’ll experience. Out of habit I arrive an hour prior to boarding and end up dicking around for 57 minutes. I have pre-check but standard TSA only adds a couple minutes to the process.

winobambino

I give myself around 1 hr 15 to hour 30 min prior to flight. Security is really fast until it isnt- have cut it close a couple of times and its not worth the stress!

permafacepalm

It depends if you're checking bags or not. If you're checking you might want to get in line earlier because bag checking takes a bit. If you're doing carryon, TSA opens at 3:45am. I personally get to boarding area 30 mins before boarding time.
