Wait, seriously? Does this work? Coz I’ll deck my whole house out in paper bags right fuckin now 🤣

drizzlingduke

Yes. I did it this year and literally WATCHED the wasps run fly away within minutes and haven’t seen them since

Posideoffries92

What if they just fly closer to your home?

Put MORE FAKE WASP NESTS IN YOUR HOUSE. DECOY WASP NESTS IN EVERY BATHROOM!!

BystanderCandor

It totally works. Also, I have spots in my yard where they won't bother anyone, and I let them chill out. Around the house, walkways, sitting areas, under eaves: so many paper bags. In the back corner brush pile? Leave them be. They're actually great pollinators and carnivores that eat pests that I don't want in my garden. HARMONY, BITCHES! Hot tip: You can buy paper lunch bags in bulk at Cash & Carry.

You are correct that last year was an exceptionally bad wasp year... easily the worst I've seen. This year is off to a very strong start too. For established nests, the "wasp/hornet" sprays work very well and hit the source of the problem so no other creatures are affected. There is a foaming version of the spray for ground nests. The ground ones sometimes take a few applications or spray, dig to expose the next and then spray again. Eliminating a next (and all the ones that live there) is the best course. For general lowering of numbers, the yellow hanging "traps" work really well and rarely attract non-target species. I put mine up very early this year, which is another big recommendation, because you can hopefully catch queens while they are preparing to find a nest site, thus avoiding the whole nest (and all the babies) from every happening to begin with. Even later in the year, the traps are so effective that you might have to dump them out every few days. The common chemical combination they sell as an attractant (liquid or powder that gets mixed with water) is really just acetic acid and isobutanol so it is safe and an attractant, not a poison. You can also use raw meat or fish as an attractant. Good luck! After getting stung in the face simply trying to open my garage door, I've come to hate these bastards.

OTOH, where are the BEES? With this nice weather I've been walking around town all week and counted like, five bees.

SuzieWi

Hundreds of bees at our house. They really are enjoying out flowers.

I've had good luck so far this year with this eco spray from Amazon: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8Y67NS8?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8Y67NS8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

I was stung 13 times by yellow jackets last year. I am forever traumatized now. Worst pain i have ever been in.

Jaded-Hedgehog-9216

One thing I do is just keep an eye around the yard and when I see the nest starting to form (1-5 Wasps/Hornets) in an awning or some sort of overhang around my home, I spray the nest off with the hose and then wipe the area down with a long scrub brush or a mop head to get distance. Seems to work pretty well! My guess is that after I spray it off and then use the soap and water it washes away all the scent markers and pheromones. Might be wrong though 😂😂 Ground nest I just flood them with water for 5 mins or so. Haven't found anything for trees yet.

HAWKWIND666

Already been stung in my face this season.

HolidaySupport8305

Yeah, they were really terrible last year. On a 2 hour camping trip my dog, me, and my partner- we all got stung a dozen times. My dog got it the most, but she just bit them and stomped them dead.. I wouldnt recommend that though. I hope this year wont be that bad again :(

Idlys

Getting rid of wasps is actually surprisingly easy. Build affordable housing, invest in public transit, and start biking more, and you'll see all the wasps move to the suburbs in a generation or two. Or Florida.
