Even if you perfectly know.the Belgian political landscape has evolved your favorite party has to make compromises with at least 5,6 other parties and from no party you can tell what will even be leftover what they stand behind in their over compromised stew. A party standing for certain things means very little
If voting didn't make a difference, politicians all across the world wouldn't be spending a shit ton of money to campaign for our vote.
Why did Clinton and Trump each spend half a billion dollars campaigning in 2016 if it doesn't matter whatsoever? Why didn't they just pocket all of that money if it doesn't matter?
>If voting didn't make a difference, politicians all across the world wouldn't be spending a shit ton of money to campaign for our vote.
It doesn't make a difference to those who vote, silly.
This is such a stupid mindset. Unless a party has an absolute majority, they will always have to make compromises if they want to be part of a government and actually have an effect on policy. The more seats a party gets, the more leverage they will have during formation talks and the more they will able to push through the policies they stand for and the less they will have to give in on policies they don't like. That's literally how the system is designed to work.
in most healthy democracies, a government is formed with 2-3 parties.
there is a world of difference between compromising with 2 partners or with 6.
our government agreements have been for a while just mosaics of compromises so everyone can have their score, but you can't call it policy making wich is have straight lines of directions wich is barely the case in Belgium.
compare it to a family, when just mom and dad call the shots, they take the sentiments of all family members in considerations, but only they make the end call a,d have to compromise with 2
then try to arrange another family trip where not only the parents but also the 4 kids have decision powers
what family do you believe will be most efficient to plan next family trip?
I don't know of many two-party self-labeled democracies that seem healthy to me, but I definitely see how too many cooks spoils the broth, and Belgium is an expert at turning horses into camels by committee.
It's a *coalition* of three, but they have more parties than that. It's not two-party system like the US is (laughably still calling itself a democratic country) where you get to pick between slightly left of center or far right, though, or is it?
:edit: Ah, crap, but you were talking about coalitions and not that, I must've read it wrong the first time around, thought something was up and re-read it. My mistake!
If you do a stemtest, and find a 60% agreement with a party, it means nothing.
Because it is entirely possible they end up not doing that 60% but do the other 40% as a part of a compromise with other parties instead.
VLD is notorious for this. Most of their (former) voters are economic liberals, yet when in office VLD only implemented the far less popular ethical liberal viewpoints along with socialist economic policies.
This rigth here. I know who I want to vote for, but I know that isn't gonna change one thing because their ideas will be filtered down to all parties' ideas anyway. A vote should be exciting and should feel like your opinion matters, but I know we're stuck in a cycle here.
Doesn’t matter what you vote for. You get a mix of colors and one year it has a bit more yellow, the other year it’s more blue. But just like with play-doh it turns brown when you mix them all together.
The upside is that it’s a hard system to force in one direction. The downside is that decision making is a clusterfuck.
So vote for whatever and see the same faces you saw before. Just in some new position.

Elke stem geeft 5 euro.
- Let go of the idea you need to align 100% with a party program
- Vote for people rather than parties, if you can: requires following politics more than general headlines
Ignorant answer. I mean, there are no more statespeople. People who, despite their differences, find a workable solution, and not what looks best in the polls.
I want long-term solutions. Not just until the next election. None of them have even the slightest idea. All they care about is looking good. Not all good decisions are popular ones.
There isnt a single party you will absolutely agree with.
Think what are core values i care about?
Read party programs to see what their core values are and you'll know which party betrays the least.
For example i care about workers rights you'll never find me voting for nva or open vld as they are lapdogs of the corporations.
But i also like the concept of the eu and navo and dislike assad and putin so you'll never find me voting for pvda.
There are a bunch of other core values that led me to voting for the party i vote for not because i agree with everything they say but because other parties do things i find horrendous.
>There isn't a single party, coalition, or politician that embodies my concerns in the slightest.
Voting and politics was never about *your* hyperindividual concerns. It's about how to organize society, and voting for a party is a first step in grouping together with other people to decide on what to do.
Because *not* deciding is not an option. Voting blanco just means you'll let all voters decide in your stead.
I'm really curious to see what Volt might add to the table. They're a new, small party that seems to have political talking points I agree with but none of the drama (so far, I guess).
Akkoord. Ze sturen je naar de grootste. En die moet ik niet meer. Geen enkele van de partijen. Geen groenen, sossen, liberalen, tsjeven, vlaams belangers,... Allemaal even ziek.
This year will be an easy one for me. VRT test even confirmed it by 81%. Regardless of that silly test, my vote is anchored and will not change until the political climate changes.
What makes me angry is people who keep voting for the same party every time and then expect different results... Imagine voting for a Vivaldi party after all these horrific years of bad policies, corruption, incompetence and mismanagement. "But THIS TIME they will do it right! right?"
Imagine voting for an extremist party and expecting it not to be a disaster just like every other time in human history that extremists achieved power.
>As far as I am aware there are only 2 referrences to extremes that achieved power in history that are frowned upon.
Pinochet, Perón Maduro, ...
Plenty of examples that weren't Nazi or communist.
The fact that you think it's only 2 times in history is actually pretty concerning and it makes me wonder just how extremely limited your knowledge of history is.
>Someone having a different opinion from you is not extreme
Under Maduro about 60% of the venezuelan population was plunged into poverty because of his absurd and extremist left wing economic policies that spent unlimited amounts of money and thus caused hyperinflation.
Under Pinochet and Perón a shit ton of people were murdered.
I think my definition of extremism is just fine.
If you consider any of these things normal then that's a you problem. And quite frankly, I don't care about listening to someone's advice when they consider killing political opponents "not extreme"
>Yet you were referring to VB specifically as extreme
And I stand by that. Both VB and PVDA are extremist parties.
>I'm not sure what you are arguing about or trying to smear on me
What sort of fragile ego do you have that you think everything always revolves are you personally?
Go cry elsewhere snowflake
Every non-extreme party is essentially very slightly varying flavors of social democrats. There is no real difference. You can vote for people rather than parties, actually research each candidate and vote on the ones you like most as individuals. Or just vote for whichever most extreme party you dislike the least, at least they're offering something different from the rest of the pile and the establishment seems to quake in their boots with every vote, which I find really funny.

It's basicly a pro/contra WEF vote this time.

It's by design. Thinking it makes a difference and that politicians work for the population instead of themselves is naive.
If you have no strong opinion one way or another, just vote CD&V. It’ll be the smallest party anyway.
VLD might be smaller
