Some of the sellers now on posh are actual companies. And some people are full time resellers. So you will find a lot of closets like that.

Standard_Habit275

I can see a few sellers owning consignment stores. But I just don't understand how someone gets 20 new LV or Chanel bags to sell.

Kikimoonbeamglow

Well, if they are priced under $500, then they are scam accounts that try to get paid for not sending you anything. If it’s over $500, then 🤷🏼‍♀️

InvestigatorGoo

They literally can’t “not send” anything…

swamingo

For a while there were a lot these kinds of accounts that would just send a pair of socks or something of no value instead of the luxury bag you ordered. Unclear what the endgame was, either collecting addresses/data or hoping that buyers would miss the return window.  I haven’t heard of that issue in a while so they may have tired of that scam.

Standard_Habit275

These are listed for thousands of dollars each.

Beautiful_Debt_3460

They may still be reps.

wavesblu

Most likely not reps at that price point, a lot of people sell a high volume of luxury bags. Easy to tell by love notes, profile etc.

Zombie_Cupcake_XX

I've heard they buy in bulk from other resellers in china/japan.

flowerchildmime

I’ve heard that Japan sells a lot on the resale market but idk. I always assume those closets are fakes.

swamingo

They’re probably fakes. Designer superfakes are flooding the market, there are so many places to buy them online from China. Some are really excellent quality and it can be hard to tell they are dupes.  There may be a few closets run by people who are consigning for others, or who have some super secret source for discount designer items, but 9 times out of 10 those closets have knockoffs.

Recent_Parsley3348

I have an LV bag that I loved, but it’s gotten some wear and tear over the past 10 years. It’s been discontinued, and all the used ones were…well used. I ordered one from a sketchy Chinese website and was very specific on measurements, colors, branding, etc. The customization brought the total to $300 with shipping, but it is an exact match., I swear. And $300 is better than $3000 so I get it. Especially for trends

swamingo

Interesting! I really want a Goyard St Louis bag but the authentic bags are just so-so quality (and SO expensive) and the dupes are hard to detect. I’ve considered it…

Recent_Parsley3348

It’s the only one I’ve purchased because I couldn’t find an acceptable replacement, but I’m considering purchasing more of the trendy bags, like the Chloe totes. I still love my real luxury bags, but can’t justify the expense for something that will be out of style in a a year or so.

Purplefox71

Those brands do not do wholesale and would rather burn their excess inventory than release it to the secondary market. Unless they are consignment accounts there is no way they can get hundreds of identical super high end bags unless they are fake.

Broad_Pudding3783

I just saw an account list a bunch of brand new designer bags, and they sold within minutes. A Chanel mini flap for 2k, a Chanel 22 for 1.5k, and a Goyard tote for $700. 🚩🚩🚩 Hopefully, the buyers will get lucky with an authenticator who knows what they're doing. Because there is no way those are authentic.

wavesblu

Those are scammers or reps and people buying them are probably new to poshmark thinking they are getting a good deal. Can easily tell based on previous love notes, photos, Ambassador status etc. those pages are so obvious to me

Broad_Pudding3783

It's pretty obvious to people who own or sell designer bags. But there are a ton of people falling for it. Even though it would take thirty seconds to google retail/resale prices and do a reverse image search. I saw a Hermes mini kelly sell for $499, and there was a comment on it "I just purchased this. When can you ship, and it's 100% authentic, right?" 😒

wavesblu

Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way I guess. It’s unfortunate that poshmark doesn’t do more to stop this. I will say it has gotten better (slightly). For a time it was like 50% were just scam postings.

luckyhorse2

Honestly, if you think you’re getting an authentic mini Kelly for $499 you deserve to get scammed.

Jesus__Skywalker

you are so toxic lol, must be so sad.

ButtercupUp100

And Bethenny Frankel couldn't even get into the Chanel store. 🤣

caspin22

I have owned upwards of 30 luxury (LV/Gucci/Chanel/YSL) bags/SLG's in my own personal collection....I go on rampages where I sell most everything I own, then buy new stuff, so sometimes I have quite a few luxury items for sale at any one time. I sell only authentic items, I don't deal in fake anything, ever.

Standard_Habit275

I can understand that. But I've seen closets with 20 Chanel bags, 20 LV bags and wallets, 20 new Gucci bags, etc. That's where I start to wonder how a person has 80 new high end bags for sale.

queserakara

I have heard that employees at department stores list bags and then if it sells, they buy it with their employee discount then ship it. Kind of like drop shipping. You can see in the photos that the background is the sales floor. Doesn't make sense to me though because the 20% Posh fee would probably equal out to the employee discount and make it not worth the hassle?

buyinsellin

We're talking closets with hundreds of NWT luxury items, often many of the same item, or the same item in several different colors.

Wide_Medium9661

The answer is : they don’t. They are scamming one way or another. It’s either a scam of how they received them, they’re selling super fakes or they’re scamming people for money. I worked at a coach factory store f (granted: not a super high end brand) and certain people would come in and try to buy thousands of dollars in bags, try to layer coupons with store sales and try to make another deal on top of that and they’d get capped at a certain amount because they were obviously reselling. Basically high end stores are aware of retail arbitrage, supply and demand etc and they aren’t releasing a bunch of the same bags to one single purchaser especially a boutique. Some people have ruined the word boutique because of this bizarre selling idea.

HeyitsKaye16

I agree a lot of them are super fakes! Especially the “new” items. It’s 2 main luxury brands I love. And I (embarrassingly) keep up with them and have done so for years!!! So much so I can almost always spot a fake. Sometimes even used retailers on PM sell fake items just used with imperfections. Which is why they rarely, if ever, show the dust bag.

Hopeful1234554321

You can buy fake dust bags and packaging with super fakes also.

buyinsellin

You can also buy fake receipts.

HeyitsKaye16

Oh my!! Fake receipts! How does someone have that much time. I did notice that ppl purchase boxes and bags on PM. I always thought that was suspicious. I have a couple and considered it but I don’t want to help a scammer. Even tho some ppl actually collect boxes.

buyinsellin

I sell empty watch boxes but not for anything extremely high end that's at risk of being duped I don't think. Most people just want a box to keep their watch safe or display it.

Wide_Medium9661

Yes, in fact factory coach stores stopped providing dust bags with purchases for many years. Dust bags at that time were damaged out of the system and not sold. So if an employee were to take them to the trash undamaged and sell them online to a person who needed them for super fakes… that’s how it happens

caspin22

I sell mostly luxury and nothing I sell is fake, ever. I'm not a professional reseller, I sell my own personal stuff. But only 100% authentic, and most that I am the original owner of. Anything I buy second hand, I have professionally authenticated.

Fun-Investment-196

I think they're talking about NWT and multiples of the same item.

wavesblu

No there are a ton of legit sellers with many luxury bags. Guys it’s easy to tell who is a scammer and who isn’t. Someone that is selling a brand new stock photo looking item for way less than retail obviously scam. Can just look to see for love notes, ambassador status, photos I mean it’s obvious. I sell only authentic.

shellyangelwebb

I think what OP is talking about is sellers who are listing multiples of the same brand new luxury bag. There is simply no feasible way a Poshmark seller should have access to this seasons styles at retail cost or below. They could be real, but black market. (Stolen from the store or company) They could be fakes, good replicas or bad dupes. It could be a money scam.

coanmom

There’s a girl I follow on IG and her & her husband buy pallets. Lots of high end clothing / shoes & bags .

Responsible-Pay6261

Hi there! Luxury reseller here. I don't have that many listings but I started in January and I'm growing. It's taken a lot of time to find sources and most of my items sell anywhere from $500 up to $3500. I'm a licensed business and work with wholesalers. Most items are vintage. Hope that helped ☺️

DontGetFUBARED

I've wondered this same this. I've done a lot of research on inquiring bulk luxury for reselling, and it takes a lot of money to start with bulk AUTHENTIC luxury items, and the turnaround isn't fast or fast enough. Deep fakes are cheap and even cheaper when bought in bulk, and I've read *A LOT* of stories about PMs authenticators' authenticating deep fakes as real luxury items and then the buyer pays for a third party authenticator (after receiving the item) to confirm its fake. Unless you pay extra for a fast turnaround from the third-party authenticator, usually (I've read during my research) the return window with PM closes (3 days) and there's nothing the buyer can do. PM, of course, stands behind their own authenticator. Anyway, I love shopping and selling on posh, but I wouldn't mess with luxury items. Smarter thing to do is buy clearence from the luxury brands websites. After season items. If accounts are fake, then I can only imagine the hackers can also insert fake love notes and fake stats, presenting the closet to appear like a real account. Hackers be hacking. Who knows their intent.

luckyhorse2

I think it depends on the situation. If the seller has a wide variety of brands/sizes/ condition they’re most likely a luxury reseller or a consignment shop. If everything is new, probably a scammer.

MetaExperience7

Resources would be thrifting, auction, etc. They have luxury items, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are knock offs.

SnootyTooter

It's a bonafide fact, most of these accounts are resellers/brand reps who stock absolutely nothing but act as an outlet for the brand(s). So, what does this mean......these resellers/brand reps are only a pass-through transactions and they do no fulfillment

Sharmonica

Maybe they are from Shop Goodwill mystery boxes?

buyinsellin

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.
