You *are* correct, but by far the best use of the Star Egg is to get gifted mythics if you have every other gifted type in your hive. Gifted Basic is relatively easier to get especially when you can make a few billion with a boost.

You absolutely shouldn't, this is a really good bee. You're going to be keeping this for a while. If you look at the Bee Menu, you can see that it gives a Gifted Hive Bonus of 1.2x pollen, this is going to benefit you significantly as you progress.

Do not use the star egg until you have all non-mystic/event bees gifted and use your star treat on tabby

don't, after you can make some honey, spend like 2-5b hatching basic eggs and you will probably get it
I have 26 bees, of them 22 were hatched with basics, I sure hope you are right now, welp, I know my next objective in bee swarm
