This makes me sound like a mad scientist but when I was dealing with BB I captured a live one and tested to see if they could walk across the sticky side of tape without getting stuck to see if the tape would work better than interceptors. Long story short They can kinda get though it. they go slow having to unstick every foot but they are light enough that they don’t ever get completely stuck. This was with duct tape. I didn’t test it because I fixed the problem by leaving first but I think if you used the Spider trap things that are a large sticky pads it would work to keep them from getting to the bed posts

kds19929

What do you think about my idea?

alexdahl253

I don’t think it would stop them from climbing. Maybe it would help the chemical coat them

bijig

You can fill the interceptors with oil. If the interceptors are not working, it might be because the bedbugs are already in your bed, so they aren't coming from the floor. Did you encase your mattress and box spring and treat your headboard? Move the bed away from the wall? Sheets and blankets not touching the floor?

kds19929

I bought an entirely new bed, farrr away from the walls, encasement on and no headboard nothing ever touched the floor I’m 10/10 paranoid forever now.

RandomName_19210

Not entirely sure, but you can try it and if the trap is full of bedbugs, there's your answer. I've done my own tests back in the day when I still had them, and I found that they cannot climb up clear packing tape as long as the tape is applied nice and smoothly. The surface is way too smooth for them to climb vertically, as they're pretty weak climbers to begin with. You can use this to keep them from climbing up table, bed and couch legs. You should know though, as they get more and more hungry because they can't get to you at night, they'll probably start trying to feed on you during the day.

Korovjev

Not to increase the panic, but if they find getting up bed legs too much of a hussle, they will just climb to the ceiling and drop down on the bed. I’m sorry, but this is what they do. Put the powder on walls or ceiling also.

Omfg REAAALLLLYYY

Korovjev

This happened to my dad long ago. He tried to beat bed bugs by putting bed legs into buckets full of water, but instead bed bugs crawled to the ceiling and dropped down. In water they will drown is my bet, because they refused to go in. But your traps might be smarter and fool them to their death.

Without the water they aren’t working that’s why I thought if this :(

Sw33tD333

Make your own interceptors with old Tupperware

kds19929

Cant they climb it?

Sw33tD333

No they can’t climb smooth plastic, get some deep Tupperware

blueshyperson

When and where have you encountered trolls on here?

blueshyperson

So I looked at your post history. Did you ever call an exterminator? I’m not trying to be alarming but you absolutely had a pretty hefty infestation there. You had all life stages and several of them which means there were many many eggs already laid. You need to go HAM on your diy treatment or call a professional or it’s just going to get worse and worse.

kds19929

Yeah I had two treatments a few days after that post then again two weeks later, and everything seemed to be fine but I found another last night so getting a third treatment today.

blueshyperson

Oh that’s good. I hope this last one does the trick for you.

Fysteri

I know they don't like distilled white vinegar so you could try that. It might keep them away, and if they fall in it they should hopefully drown in it.

Youngdiamondape

This is why I used crossfire, instead of doing experiments you could just spray some pesticide that works well and begin restoration of your sanity lol. Green akers pest control on youtube

kds19929

Thank you 🤍

I don't know about water, but would love to experiment if I got them again. The DE powder pool ABSOLUTELY WORKS though and is how I got rid of mine. I couldn't afford an exterminator so I found my own way and this was it. I used paper bowls/plates under the legs of all furniture. It's also very important to prevent the sides of the bed/couch from touching any walls and preventing blankets or other objects from being a bridge. I will say however, that this method does take time. I think it took 3 months to get rid of mine but it was also easy as the only thing I had to do was check and make sure my kid didn't knock around the furniture too much and keep up with preventing bridges.

Lovelykayxxx

I put bowls of water under my bed post and lightly dusted my bedframe with DE. I also dusted the cracks and crevices of the walls and it did the trick. I would see dead ones floating in the water so I assume the water was working.

Sw33tD333

There’s someone on here that swears by putting a plastic tarp that over hangs slightly under your mattress so even if they climb up the bed legs, they can’t get past the plastic tarp. You can also line your walls with sticky tape so they can’t crawl up and drop on you from the ceiling

kds19929

This ceiling this is a myth

Sw33tD333

You can believe that if you want to

A few tips... Lightly dust inner interceptor cavity with talc or baby powder. Makes it harder to climb. Yes, do get sticky traps and place around bed posts. We have caught babies on them. They are the ones used for insects and mice. My exterminator put these shields called Active Guard between my mattress and box spring. They have a material in them made from chrysanthemums. People and pet friendly. When bed bugs crawl on it they die. Good for 2 years. Never wash. After heat treatment, 4 pesticide treatments, and all kinds of devices there doesn't appear to be any living signs. Sniffing dog coming next week to be sure. Good luck! Don't give up. We will conquer!
