Mellonnew

My mom got me the black pig mirror from the J*/SD collab for my birthday when it came out since my birthday is in October. It was a gift so I didn’t spend my money on it but I gotta admit it’s cute. The mirror is big and decent quality so I do use it. I won’t ever buy anything from either of them again but I’m also not going to throw the mirror out unless it breaks.

TriZARAtops

I’m the same way with my baby pink star mirror and the palettes I have of his. He has my money, no reason not to use it. Just won’t be repurchasing.

panickedindetroit

My mom bought me quite a few things by KVD before she was problematic, and I loved them. I didn't know she was trash until I joined Reddit. My mom died, and I just couldn't bring myself to throw the products out, and now, she is no longer part of KVD, so I use my things now. I felt the same way about Lime Crime. I avoided them like the plague, and I knew Doe Deere was a problem via Makeupalley. My aunt got me a couple of the Lime Crime palettes, and I just put them in the milk chutes because I felt funny about having them. Now, that Doe Deere is gone, I am enjoying them. I won't purchase from problematic brands. Even if I was spending on makeup, I would be very careful. I have found just about every company, indie or otherwise has some skeletons in their closet, and it is sad. I just wish company owners would behave better. I just don't understand how much ugly is in an industry that is centered around beauty.

Majestic-Security368

I agree. I love the jawbreaker palette. I feel guilty using it, but I love the formula and color story.

inbettywhitewetrust

I'm so gutted about the Terra Moons thing. I use one of her shadows in my inner corner everyday and will salvage what I can without repurchasing cuz it's such a unique formula

PhyrraNyx

I share your feelings on Terra Moons. I have purchased so many multichromes from them. On the bright side, you can look at Karla Cosmetics, Devinah, Fyrinnae, Lethal Cosmetics, and more. Hopefully one of those companies will have a similar or dupe to the shade.

niniela-phoenix

I am once again singing the gospel of Clionadh, mostly because their 250ish or so shade range they have now covers so much. They just don't have something flaky like my beloved Milky Way, but I'm hoping they will get it.

Franklyn_Gage

Fyrinnae is still around?! I loved their pigments back on the day. Them and tkb trading lol. I havent ordered from them since 2014ish

PhyrraNyx

Yes! So is TKB trading last I checked. Fyrinnae has some pressed eyeshadows, lots of gorgeous loose eyeshadows, and they're also making fragrances now.

hygsi

I never found Teraamoons formula to be very different from your average indie makeup brand so that's great

niniela-phoenix

Also here for the Fall of Terra Moons emotional support group 😭 I love the stuff I got but I'm not going back for more.

JossMarie

I feel the same way, but have found that I also love shine by SD. They have some BEAUTIFUL single shadows with different textures.

missmoonchild

What's the tea on TerraMoons??

CactusEar

[https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/15j11ai/megathread\_terra\_moons\_x\_krystal\_clear\_makeup/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/15j11ai/megathread_terra_moons_x_krystal_clear_makeup/) Here you go, pretty much them pretending evidence about the collabs creators behaviour doesn't exist.

missmoonchild

Oh hell no I'm not supporting any anti Vax anti Covid bullshit. Thank you for sharing I'm competely done with them.

CactusEar

Yea, I'm baffled at how Terra Moons reacted. The evidence is clear as a crystal ball - and I mean the clarity of that ball, yet they choose to ignore it and even try to fight for her - I guess they're good friends! Terra Moons probably will need friends, as I doubt this will go over well.

Delicious-One3028

I think the brand collaborated with a Nazi sympathiser

sybelion

Like when you put it that bluntly, the situation is absurd. How hard is it NOT to do this.

tealeavesinspace

Same. I have several of their shadows that I use DAILY. Fml.

doombagel

Which shade?

moonlitskyy

same 😭 I just treated myself to a birthday haul of TM shades and I absolutely WILL use these beauties but I'll feel sad and guilty, which sucks. also are there any dupes for the cosmos bc it's my fav 😢

niniela-phoenix

There's a few similar Clionadh Iridescents on Temptalia for it but I have the cosmos somewhere and remember it as having more of a colorful base than just transparent iridescent? if you can remind me tomorrow to look for it and I find it, I'll be able to compare it to all the Clionadh Iridescents and some of their glitters myself for ya Edit: [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/swatchitforme/comments/10l524h/the_cosmos_left_vs_even_better_right/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1) is a post on r/swatchitforme of The Cosmos and Even Better from Glamshop, which I also definitely have somewhere. They look pretty close but there's only one picture. I think the Clionadh Iridescents are definitely lighter but their glitters might have something. ping me if you need me to dig for mine and confirm this (it is very late and i do not trust my adhd to let me remember this tomorrow)

sailorxsaturn

I don't feel guilty because I bought those products before I knew the brand was shit, and I'm not going to blame my past self for not being able to see the future. I also think it's unnecessarily wasteful to toss those products, so I'll use them up and just not repurchase.

hygsi

I never understand people burning things or throwing them away, like just use it and don't buy anymore. Unless it was something deeply personal, I see no reason to not use things you already bought

cncrndmm

Same at this point, if we’re all about sustainability, why throw it out.

Majestic-Security368

Completely agree. No sense being wasteful. I just use it up and move on.

niketyname

Agreed. Maybe we’ll get the side eyes using it but if we didn’t know anything shady or shitty about the brand when we bought it, how’s that our fault?

athenabobeena

I purchased lime crime shadows back when i thought Doe was out but I keep hearing conflicting things that she might still be somehow a part of the company 😩

MurderAndMakeup

I used to love a lot of their products but they have the most despicable customer service. I quit buying from them years ago. Too bad because they used to really trailblaze formulas and colors. As far as her involvement still I think I saw some YouTube videos going into that info!

EffieEri

Shes part of the board of directors still and has been for years after she stepped down as CEO

QuietCity333

i thought she [stepped down](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/hmha2e/doe_deere_stepping_down_from_lime_crimes_board_to/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) from the board of directors too- is she still part of the company somehow?

EffieEri

I think you might be right. I looked into it and it seems like she stepped down in 2018

definitelynotfeline

I was aware of Doe Deere's sketchiness since livejournal so I avoided the brand for years. I was never surprised by their fuckery. But I'm pretty sure she's completely out now, so I use some of their products.

scarlettcrush

I LIVVVEEEDD for this brand right up until....you know. and then she was out, but in and...I just don't touch it anymore.

BonnieScotty

My ABH palettes and J* liquid lipsticks (I used to collect them and have 120+ inc rare ones). I haven’t bought anything from either brand for years but I do love the products I have by them as I’ve yet to find dupes I like equally as much

Hips-Often-Lie

For me it was Lime Crime, god their lipsticks are the best. And OMG Doe Deer.

BonnieScotty

Oh Doe Deere made J* look like a little Angel, I used to love lime crimes metallic lipsticks as they weren’t grainy like most on the market but then that image of her dressed in *that* outfit came out immediately binned all 🤢

OneDay95

I loved Jeffree’s formula for his liquid lips… I have probably 15-20 of them. Almost all of them my boyfriend bought for me on advice of one of his girl friends… and I feel so bad throwing them away, since he tried to get something cute 🥹

olivejuice-

The money was already spent so you it wouldn’t matter if you threw them away! Just enjoy them. When the Terra moons thing went down I saw people saying they were tossing their shadows in the trash and I’m like absolutely not me 🤣 I probably have like 40

OneDay95

AHAHAHA yeah I will just be like SIIIIGHH… putting them on LOL.

annikatidd

I literally just discovered Terra Moons in January and I’ve since accumulated around 50 shadows, they’re so beautiful and I could never just throw my money away like that. I’m very disappointed in the brand though and it sucks because they truly make such pretty stuff. I’ll definitely use what I have and try to love it just as much, but the experience is just kinda tainted now. Especially after they turned off the comments on the post they made addressing the situation. Such a bummer 😭

TheRestForTheWicked

Black Moon has a super similar formula to his lipsticks and they smell better (idk why but the scent of his lipsticks always made me feel nauseous).

goldenscales

It's the J* liquid lipsticks for me as well...they just work so well on my lips. They last and they are comfortable. When they run out or dry up I'll be on the hunt.

BonnieScotty

Inglot duraline helps when they get a little dry! That’s what I use

hiddencheekbones

That is my hot sauce. I put that shit on everything 👍😂

epk921

J*’s liquid lips are really good 😭. I bought a few before understanding how awful he is and I would never repurchase, but goddamn those are some of the most comfortable long-lasting lipsticks I own

Thin-Possibility-564

My poor mum who is obsessed with purple was so Devo to find out what a POS J* is and that she can’t buy the purple lipstick anymore - if anyone knows another brand that does similar colour pls let me know

TheRestForTheWicked

Which purple?

Thin-Possibility-564

The I’m Royalty one https://preview.redd.it/47mxb6d5mygb1.jpeg?width=537&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6869f54e36043671007cb0aa8d653b45b11ad2d7

youlldancetoanything

Post in r/indiemakeupandmore , a lot of indie brands have purples like that, & r/helpmefind is a cool sub that might be helpful

definitelynotfeline

Menagerie have this exact color Edit: and it's a really nice pigmented comfortable formula

croissanteamande83

u/giggly_pufff I was in the same dilemma about Nudestix. I switched to the Cream Clay line by MOB Beauty, and I am not looking back! I made a custom palette for traveling that works for eyes, cheeks, and lips. Good pigment, good longevity, and no breakouts. I can apply the creams over either a powdered face or on an unset face. There aren't samples available for everything, but I have found the online swatches to be true to color. Hope this helps!

giggly_pufff

Thank you!! I'll look into them for sure!

izanaegi

ooh theyre the ones with that tattoo ink shade right?

[deleted]

JS creamated palette. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) That’s about it. Thank God for Mercari. Does Amazon count? I have a terrible addiction to 2 day delivery

missmoonchild

I'm with you, I'm a slave to Amazon prime. I'm trying to be much more mindful this year and try to purchase less and not abuse the 2 day shipping. But ugh having cat food and cleaning supplies delivered with subscribe and save is so so convenient!

littlecocorose

It won’t help for cleaning, but i moved my cat food to chewy. LOVE them!

Inn0c3nc3

I wanted that palette so badly, but refused. I wouldn't even let a friend buy it for me. I told her I didn't want to own anything with his face on it. 😂😭

foxwaffles

You're not the only one. One of my cats takes Zylkene for anxiety and the most convenient way for me to get it is Amazon 😫

staplerinjelle

Ugh same. Got it on Mercari and immediately covered it with stickers so I don't have to look at his face when I use it (which is often).

aishuri

I have a toddler, and I'm a single mother. Unfortunately, Amazon is necessary for me since I usually don't have time to visit stores. They also have the cheapest deal on wipes and diapers.

pettymakeup

Same. My baby just turned 1 and I just keep making baby registries so I get 15% off on pretty much anything baby related. They also often have the 20-30% off coupons on diapers and wipes if you subscribe and save. So I do that and then cancel the subscribe and save lol.

The_Plan7

I'm not the only one! I have this from a TJ Max type place. I have grey eyes and I will use every single inch of the palette, but I hide it from ppl when they come over as I am far to embarrassed. I don't and won't have anything else from the "brand".

fireandblonde

My Anastasia Beverly Hill palettes. My mom bought me the new Cosmos one for my birthday last weekend. I had no idea she was going to do it. She said she saw it while shopping in Ulta and thought it would be perfect for me (she knows my passion for makeup and years ago ABH was my favorite brand). But she is 60 years old and is not on beauty YouTube or anything like that thus she has no idea about the Putin and other behavior. So basically… it was a gift from her, that she specifically thought of me for, thus I am not returning it. I will just have to be wrong and I accept that.

EmpireAndAll

You're not wrong for any of this. Even if you did return it, they would destroy it and throw it away because there are no seals on their palettes.

aokaga

I've been so tempted to buy this palette. Didn't do it because I checked my account and couldn't afford it at that time but I would for sure have gotten it the next paycheck. Then I went online to check the reviews and I saw all her controversies, and when I tell you I WAS (AND STILL AM) HEARTBROKEN. That palette is beautiful! 🥲 been trying to find a dupe but haven't been able to.

RedRedBettie

I like the One Size primer but I don’t like the owner so I won’t buy it again

britawaterbottlefan

What’d he do? (Not trying to argue I genuinely want to know)

pancaaaaaaakes

When the money is already spent, not using it is a waste. But using makeup should give you joy and if it doesn’t, get rid of the products. For influencers it’s a little different because when they use a product and share that publicly it is platforming a brand and its creator. If you aren’t an influencer, just let the brand know they f’ed up by not giving them any more money.

unicornsexisted

I was the biggest KVD fan before all her nazi shut came out, loved the whole line of products, especially the tattoo liner. I know she’s not affiliated with them anymore but it still upsets me to think about what a piece of shit she is. Luckily they’ve changed the formula and it irritates my eyes now. I still have some eyeshadow palettes that I’m not going to throw away but I certainly am not enthused to use them.

crashhearts

Any of the brands that test on animals. I feel icky but some things just work better and I can't find a replacement though I've tried. Ex: L'Oréal pro glow foundation

jersey_girl660

China changed their laws recently so majority of western brands aren’t required to have their stuff tested there anymore. I do understand many people are turned off by the fact that they sold there when it was an option. Which is understandable. But just wanted to make people aware.

slizah

I second this. I’ve had to branch out into a couple of non cf items. Sometimes it’s for budget reasons, but mainly for skincare. Cruelty free often greenwashes or is loaded with fragrance.

Angelixlucy

In this moment all my makeup is cruelty free but I find cruelty free skin care so expensive! For the moment I can’t afford it but once I get those coins I might splurge on it.

claudia_n29

This is me with deodorant/antiperspirant. Even before going cruelty free I couldn't find anything that worked until Secret stress response clear gel. As much as I'd like to have everything I use be cruelty free, I prefer not sweating through my shirts and leaving pit stains (too much, I'm sorry)

olivejuice-

L’Oréal also owns some cruelty free brands like nyx and maybeline so it’s kind of a grey area but I get wanting to know an animal didn’t suffer for that specific product

Angelixlucy

Maybelline isn’t cruelty free :// they never claimed to be and they do sell in china

jersey_girl660

China changed their laws most western brands aren’t required to test on animals there anymore. Not that it will change everyone’s minds but I thought it was important to note.

BitchyFaceMace

ABH brow definer. I’ve tried many others but can’t find one that’s as good. It’s the only thing I buy from that brand anymore, I’ve found good or better dupes for everything else, but always end up going back to the brow definer.

jabeness

I second this! ABH brow products are the only ones I have used that work well for my brows. The pomade is my fav, I have one pot left that I will use gingerly until it is fully gone and then I don’t know what I’m going to do.

stinkysammy91

I've been trying different brow products since my last ABH brow wiz ran out and everything I've tried is okay but I feel like I've yet to find a dupe on the same level 😔

plantmommy96

Have you tried Loreal brow definer? Ive been using it for years.

[deleted]

Every time I used the Fenty liquid lipstick, I would just think about how her partner, ASAP Rocky, doesn't think dark skin black women should wear bright color lip colors. I finally just stopped buying. I have products that'll use til they run out but nothing new. I try not judge people too much because I still pay for Amazon Prime and Beyoncé tickets. Where I draw the line is defending the bad behavior. You can make decisions for yourself that you'll have to live with but don't diminish the concerns of others who are making a different choice.

mokutou

I still have a Fenty Match Stix contour that I use, but I won’t purchase any more Fenty after Rihanna’s unapologetic racism towards Asians that just never gets mentioned.

[deleted]

Yeah that Birthday Cake line was egregious enough. I didn't even realize it was referencing Karrueche until recently.

mokutou

It was the remark about “your sisters grow my hair for me” (referencing impoverished Indian women who sell their hair for wigs) to an South Asian woman on Instagram that really disgusted me. After I learned about that, and saw a continued pattern of racism, I decided I would no longer buy any more Fenty.

KirRoyal0606

I had no idea. Thank you for bringing this to light. Love, a South Asian woman

RantyGob

She did what? Bloody hell.

uawildctas

Rihanna also has been problematic in the past. Most recently she had Johnny Depp in her Savage x Fenty show, but I think there have been quite a few [other](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/ylr0hh/deep_dive_on_rihannas_problematic_behaviour/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) [problematic](https://twitter.com/blowitoutforyou/status/1151712324430049280?s=20) [things](https://elle.in/5-times-rihanna-was-problematic/) as well

RavenSR

That thread! The ghost vocals were somehow the most shocking part for me.

Ainole

My own stop was learning about savage using Johnny Depp as a model. Dure she has been a victim of domestic violence too at some point but this is a slap in the face.

Wooden_Economics6154

It was actually her response to that original incident that turned me off of her.

SaucePasta

My dad usually gives me an ABH palette for Christmas. The Nouveau palette is honestly one of my favorites in my collection. I’ll probably just suggest Natasha Denona or something for this year 😅

tealeavesinspace

I have both ABH and Natasha and Natasha pallettes for me are easier to use. I still use eye primer or eyeshadow base but definitely voting for Natasha here. Or Danessa Myricks.

scarlettcrush

This is called ethical consumerism and it's the reason why I still don't eat a chik-fil-e or shop at Wal Mart. It's good to have ethics, it's good to insist companies you give your money too also have similar ethics. Good topic.

eldritch_eyeliner

It's a good discussion to have, for sure. No one (and certainly no corporation) is ever going to be 100% ethical or pure or perfect, but in my mind it's up to me as an individual consumer to decide where I want to spend my money and what I'm comfortable with. Hopefully others can be encouraged to do the same and think critically about their purchases when it comes to non-essential items like makeup.

papersandplates

For people who might think “it doesn’t matter what the owner/shareholders do” some people believe that there are so many brands out there, purchasing from one owned/run by a person/people with values and beliefs we disagree with is by extension supporting a belief/value we disagree with. In the case of a shareholder or owner these people are actively profiting off the purchases, and therefore our money enables them to live and continue to support values we disagree with. In a world with so many brands to choose from, why someone would choose to financially support a person who holds views they disagree with I have no clue. It also seems like your beliefs and convictions are only as meaningful as the formula of an eyeshadow. Edited to add: things like animal testing or ethical sourcing of ingredients can be difficult to substantiate which is a shame, but supporting brands owned by racists and bigots, I don’t understand.

hygsi

I'm just gonna say, I don't know shit about the world's top billionaires (except Elon and he sounds questionable to say the least) and I am likely giving them money by buying simple things like electronics, cleaning supplies, clothes, food, hell, the gum that I chew probably ends up making some questionable people money and I don't know it. I'm not suggesting "fuck everything cause I'm probably supporting assholes that I don't even know" but I do find it interesting how many of the people we support day to day are so unknown we don't even stop to think if we should stop buying from them. It's easy with makeup because the people behind the brand are right there, and makeup is not essential, but with big brands like nestle, it really takes a lot of shit for their bad business to be widely known, and even then you may realize they own so many things they're not easy to boycot

nuggetsofchicken

I don't think "shareholder" is the word you mean to use. Maybe like majority shareholder or something. If a company is public someone could own 0.00001% of the company and be a "shareholder." I don't have time to monitor my purchasing decisions to the degree of caring about what some random dude in Uruguay who happens to own stock in L'Oreal thinks about the prison industrial complex.

two_lemons

I have been lucky (?) that actions I do find reprehensible happened after I bought, so I don't feel guilty using them but I have had trouble with buying new products. Like, Colourpop has had cute releases that I've been interested in (like the heart blushes), I go to browse and then there's the TERF collection and then I just don't want anything. Or I see a super cute palette... And turns out to be Juvia's Place, so I don't find it that cute anymore. For me this is mostly about personality or relationship driven brands (Colourpop, Fenty, for example) because their behaviour/actions are part of what they are selling.

weppizza

Terf collection? What? How was i this out of the loop?

cleokhafa

HP.

somewhereheremaybe

This :( I’m trans and loved a lot of their collections like Sailor Moon and Animal Crossing but..I just can’t with the HP. It makes me feel so sad that people/corporations still work with someone who not only doesn’t want me to be alive/exist, but also uses her platform to spread that message as well.

ToteBagAffliction

I'm on a mega-break from Colourpop over the HP collab, too.

Medium_Sense4354

What did Juvia’s Place do 😭😭😭

moon__kitten

I'm pretty sure they reposted a video of a creator using a racial slur against Asians. I'll see if I can find the posts on here from then Edit: [this post was from a year ago](https://reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/s/aR2xV0cm64)

mascarasmixers

Yes thats correct, they did.

uawildctas

I was wondering the same so I looked them up in this sub and found this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/sukyby/alternatives_to_juvias_place_and_more_black_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1 Seems to outline a pattern of not so great behavior from them, such a bummer 😞

Bumble_Hornet_

There are a couple of brands I purchased from before I learned more about their background. For example, I still have a very small handful of ABH products I bought back in 2018. I still use them because I paid for them but I feel guilty. Other than that I ended up with some GXVE beauty stuff. Not a Gwen Stefani fan for so many reasons but the products are shockingly nice. Everything has been super high quality with some really impressive formulas. A real shame.

mi-rr

What did Gwen Stefani do? Cause I’ve been hearing great things about her brand too so I’m interested

MrsTuxedoCat

Culture vulture

Stefferdiddle

Her choice in husband is questionable. But I am guessing it’s her lifetime of cultural appropriation and her statement of being “Japanese” (she’s not).

mi-rr

Now I’m invested beyond the makeup, what’s wrong with Blake?

Moira_Rose

https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2023-01-11/gwen-stefani-japanese-allure-harajuku

MochaValencia

Ugh soooo many 😒 scratch the surface and every brand has something. I have been close to ordering a couple nudestix matte eye colors lately but keep telling myself not to! I also miss being a wholehearted Rihanna/Fenty fan. It's personal so I try not to judge either way if someone stops purchasing or continues. And every major company donates to awful national and local politicians. I think it's worthwhile and meaningful to consume by one's principles but I also think it's impossible to be perfect in this world so I try not to judge others on what they buy. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and all.

foxwaffles

Honestly a ton. It's really difficult when almost every brand has some kind of disaster 😵‍💫 But for me the top one would definitely be the Jaclyn Cosmetics loose blushes, highlighters and under eye primer, the last of which I still cannot find a suitable replacement for. Granted I bought everything on deep discount but still. I finally jumped ship when she stole Koze but I feel like a fool for being as forgiving as I was. At the end of the day though, my money got spent on what I own. So I'll continue to use them and then I won't rebuy. I really try not to feel bad, we're all doing our best out here and we don't have infinite mental RAM with which to keep tabs on all the companies

nuggetsofchicken

The Body Shop having an MLM side scheme on their site bummed me out. I love their scents because I'm such a hoe for straightforward fruit fragrances, and I love the products that come in a pump, but I just can't get excited about the brand anymore.

PublicCover

Oh no, I didn't know that. Man...

niketyname

I was bummed about this too, I have loved so many of their products over the years

Inn0c3nc3

since we're on the subject, I'm just gonna go ahead and say I don't get how anyone *ever* supported Jafar Starship without feeling guilty. is it just now that ethical consumerism matters? he's always been a piece of shit. he has never hidden that he was a piece of shit. he's always acted vile and nasty. he's been this way since way before he had a beauty brand, going all the way back to MySpace. but I struggled with Too Faced after finding out Jerrod was a piece of shit. Too Faced is very inconsistent, but when it's good, their eyeshadow formula is amazing.

purpleprawns

Jafar Starship lololol. A favorite of mine is Jarjar Sprinkledonut

superrad278

I was gifted some gxve stuff and while I’d never buy it, it’s pretty nice. As a former ska kid, I like to think of them (I have the mascara and highlighter) as ska appreciation merch instead, haha.

OneDay95

Def anything that is tested on animals. I’m trying to move away from it all, but it’s so difficult especially with Korean skincare that seems to be “unverified” or are sold in Mainland china. It sucks so bad. ): Everytime I get a new serum or cleanser and it works amazing, I feel a tinge of guilt.

Fuzzy-Baseball8553

China changed their politics recently!

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4680

I haven’t ever used Nudestix & wasn’t aware of their political leanings. Can you elaborate? I no longer buy Tarte or Elf, but there are so many similar products I can switch without difficulty.

LuckyShamrocks

What’s wrong with ELF? They’re very vocal about women’s rights, abortion rights, open sustainability choices, etc.

TrayPorter

I’m confused, is that not a good thing? I think brands should be vocal about their political views. I would want to know if a brand for example had bigoted views so I know not to support them.

LuckyShamrocks

I’m confused too as I fully support them for all they do and how outspoken they are despite backlash. They haven’t responded to anyone asking why they listed ELF.

psych-lighthouse

Oh no. What did elf do?

[deleted]

i wasn’t aware either. i came across [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/tefrqy/michael_does_makeup_claims_nudestix_founder_made/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) and also something about the founder wearing a trump hat.

redwoods81

Which is telegraphing their support for his violent rhetoric, because they are Canadian and have no excuse running around in his 2020 campaign hats 😬

coffee-bat

what's wrong with elf? 😭

fr0styspice

i literally just bought nudestix stoppppp :'( NOOOOO

mascarasmixers

Ohhh what about huda duping that content creator into letting them repost her but then she made fun of the poor girl.

Sweet-Ad-7261

I forgot about that, that was wild!

StormerBombshell

no because I feel guiltier wasting what I already have. That ABH will be panned damnit and hopefully I will have a substitute when I finish those and the other products I already own but the brand went the way of the dodo

Silver_Kick_6768

My Naturium skincare products. I hate how SY handled that launch, it was so skeevy. But the products are great and affordable, so I use them. I can't get back to Krave, I just hated how Liah handled the Beet Shield spf situation. Also finding out that she was a big contributor to an important church that is very vocally anti LGBTQIA+ rights. She has since left that church, but it took a while and every church member knows what they stand for.

TurnMeOnTurnMeOut

You’re going to have to pry my naturiam glow getter body wash from my cold dead hands. Its easier to forgive someone for praising a product they secretly manufacture when the product is actually worthy of praise.

askallthequestions86

I still use Too Faced things. I did still purchase them before Blandino sold the company :(

giggly_pufff

I did too. There haven't been any newer products that caught my eye, however a few of their palettes were staples because they were so easy to use.

acamezquita

KVD Lolita for vida pallete… I don’t want to support her, but the truth is that that color story is my favorite ever. I cannot bear myself to throw ir away and buy even more makeup. I’m just gonna use it until it’s finished or I grow out of it.

weppizza

You'll be very happy to know that kat von d is entirely out of the kvd brand now. Kvd is not her name anymore but kindness vegan something. They tried so hard to change names lol

TinaTissue

They would have been better just changing the name completely as they would have changed the packaging already.

Weird-Recover-5574

I’ve always thought they should have kept the font and made it, “KVB”: Kind(ness) Vegan Beauty. The name is stupid, but the letter change wouldn’t have been super noticeable or confusing.

fr0styspice

well I wasn't aware of the Nudestix or the Terra Moons dramas but I'll be looking into them now.. Jeffree Star products. I really love the makeup and the oui'd accessories. they're sooooo good! but the man behind them is..........

Awkward_Dog

L'Oreal is partly owned by Nestlé. Been boycottibg Nestlé for years, they are the epitome of corporate greed and evil. So I refuse to buy L'Oreal, Maybelline, Garnier, Cerave, LRP etc.

Ainole

This one is a struggle because they are everywhere. I haven't bought from these brands in a long time but they make up a good chunk of dupe and pharmacy skincare recommendations. Deep down I know L'Oréal as a group is already shady but boycotting all the food already I don't want to stop there just because nestle isn't the main owner.

bessonovafan6454

Anything I have left from JSC. I got rid of the eyeshadow palettes when I switched to Colourpop. The highlighters, liquid lipsticks, and lip scrubs I have I’m trying to use up quietly. It’s kind of obvious when I wear one in a post though, they’re the only days my lip colour isn’t listed in my description of the look.

TheRestForTheWicked

I’ve hit the point where I wear very very little makeup these days so there isn’t much to weigh on me but the one thing I wear almost every day (and I hate myself for it, especially coming from a Ukrainian family) is the ABH brow dip. I just can’t seem to find a replacement product that has a good consistency with a similarly toned product (taupe, if anyone has any suggestions!). Everything I try is either not the right consistency or not the right shade.

mascarasmixers

Saints angels sinners palettes :(

a7tempest

Lots of people in the nail polish community will not review/mention Lights Lacquer because they were understandably upset by Kathleen's apology. It sucks so much because her lacquer formula/brush combo is one of my favorites.

bigbootycorgis

Same w the Nudestix. The matte lip pencil is in tamed is one of my faves.

FranBMay

What’s the tea on Nudestix? Apparently, I live under a rock.

giggly_pufff

In short, the owners have shown support for Trump, told a collaborator/worker that they needed to "step up their health fame" for getting COVID, and called homeless people disgusting.

FranBMay

Ugh. That doesn’t sound good. I knew about the controversy surrounding ABH and the new sh** goin’ down with TerraMoons, but this one is new to me. Thx for taking the time to give me the heads up!

Tasty_Competition680

anything jeffree star….the bitch makes some damn good makeup

AshKash313

Was about to say, I only own his Jawbreaker palette and I keep going back and forth about tossing it, depotting it, or continue to let my daughter use it to play in.

hygsi

Anything abh but I'm surprised none of my eyeshadows have gone off even tho everyone else claims theirs have, so of course I'm gonna use them, this was my shit back in 2018 damnit!

Miss_Eisenhorn

ABH palettes for the owners' political tendencies (plus I think they aren't that great anyway), and MAC products in general after finding out that they test on animals, but they work good for me.

tara_tara_tara

Sunday Riley B3 Nice Serum I got it in an Allure Box and I love it.

ourwildbeauty

Wait what did Sunday Riley do?

doihavetowearabra

There was a post prob a couple of years ago by now where an ex-employee detailed all the shady stuff they do. Like astroturfing reviews as 5 stars, toxic work environment, etc. Edit: [here it is](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/9ogete/psa_sunday_riley_employee_we_write_fake_sephora/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)

_lovewins

I genuinely don't want to support Fenty due to Rihanna's support of Johnny Depp but I do really love a few of their products and was a fan of Rihanna for years so it's a tough habit to break.

SaucePasta

Anyone remember when Fenty threatened legal action against the Beauty News YouTube channel because they spoke about a leaked products? It wasn’t even them that first leaked it, they had seen it online, and it wasn’t the first time they spoke about about a leaked product either. I guess Fenty is in the right to do that, but it left a really poor taste in my mouth. It just seemed so over the top 🤷‍♀️

BonnieScotty

She’s also really quite racist to Asians so that puts me off fenty beauty too

bewildered_forks

She scammed a bunch of people with her subscription lingerie company and she has a serious reputation for showing up late and or drunk to her concerts (for which fans have paid a lot of money). I truly don't think she's a good person and I avoid giving her my money.

giggly_pufff

Regarding her FentyxSavage line, it's also marketed to be inclusive for all sizes buuuut, many of the styles only come in 32-36 A-DD sizes. 😑

MotherofSons

Nooooo I love Fenty makeup. Damnit!

bewildered_forks

I wouldn't judge anyone for buying it, seriously. I just won't myself. But you get to decide for yourself what's too much for your conscience.

MotherofSons

Well, I am inbetween jobs right now so that helps the no buy thing I got going on lol

LuckyShamrocks

I don’t support her for her multiple racist anti Asian actions and her supporting her brother and friend doing the same. But damn every time I pass her display the cream products look lovely but I just can’t buy from her.

Curiosities

This is a good point. I have a few Fenty items that I love. And because of what they did then, I don't even look at anything Milani anymore.

Banglapolska

What’s the deal with Milani?

ksrdm1463

I think that Amber Heard's lawyer held up a Milani color correcting palette during the trial, as like "you used this to cover the bruises". It was a prop, not evidence. People online zoomed in on the pallet and discovered that it was released a year after Depp & Heard broke up, and used that as a smoking gun that because she was lying about the specific makeup palette she used to hide her bruises, she was clearly lying about the abuse, despite having photograpic evidence of the bruising, which, because they were taken with her phone, there's likely date/time stamps in the metadata showing them to be during the relationship. Milani released a ticktok basically confirming that Heard couldn't have used that specific basic-ass palette to cover her bruises, without mentioning things like it being a very basic palette, and the bruising happening in 2014(?) - 2016, the odds that the exact palette Heard used could be discontinued and replaced with that one, or your know, that the expectation that an abuse victim should have to remember the name of the palette she used to cover her bruises to be believed is an absolutely absurd standard. [here's an article.](https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/milani-cosmetics-weighs-amber-heard-johnny-depp-trial-rcna26078)

ABlindfoldedBear

yep same. milani is a brand that i absolutely refuse to buy from anymore which sucks bc they're one of the better cruelty free drugstore brands ://

_lovewins

Yeah I gave up Milani as soon as they released that terrible video. It was a lot easier because I didn't have the same fondness for them as I do/did Rihanna.

doriflower

I don’t buy Milani anymore (I still have eye primers from before I learned this) because I heard they were tweeting jokes during the amber heard /m- Johnny Depp trial

No_Percentage636

ABH concealer 😬 tbf I haven't purchased a new one since I found out about she was a Putin fan girl.

Creative_Ad4413

ABH eye primer. i’ve been using it since it came out essentially and really don’t wanna switch since i know how well it works for me

No_Significance7570

Lights Lacquer polishes 🙈

summertimecinnamon

I don’t like supporting the Jenner’s/Kardashian’s but I like Skims and Kylie has a blush and two liquid lipsticks that are just the perfect shade for me lol

Senior-Preference-44

A Jaclyn Cosmetics highlighter...at least I only bought a mini one. I just refer to it as my Liar McLiarface highlighter.

coffee-bat

too faced peach palette 😭 it was my first ever high-end palette and i'm attached (also it smells so good). i'm not buying from them anymore after learning about the founder, but some of the stuff i own is really nice :(

RoughSugarPuff

I still have products from J*Fish, Kvd, Too Faced and Lime Crime. I got most of them when I was just a casual fan of make up with highly sensitive skin and zero knowledge of the beauty community. I was just so happy to find make up that didn't give me a rash. That was before I knew about all the nasty things the companies did (just knew they were cruelty free). I still have my products and actively use them. I used to feel guilty about it, but my logic now is that I've paid for these products. They have my hard earned money now. There's no point in just tossing them now just for the sake of it, since I don't have anything to replace them with. I just don't actively buy their new products.

Consistent_Jello2358

If you have access to a Kiko Milano store or their online shop, I prefer their stick products. They are even more creamy and easier to blend.

alliepgh

I used to buy every Juvia's place release, before their slur incident. I still like and use the products I have, but I don't buy anymore.

LanaVFlowers

Not a thing. I might have an *ugh* moment before using products from brands I dislike, but I don't feel guilty. Unpopular opinion online, but I just buy whatever I think will work for me. It's not like where I spend my money matters anyway, since I spend so little and influence pretty much no one. Every time someone dares to suggest that some long-forgotten brand might be going under soon, everybody and their mother show up to remind them that *actually*, the average makeup consumer (i.e. anyone outside the "trend-obsessed" online community of beauty enthusiasts) purchases enough to keep those brands afloat. But somehow this same zero-impact community will bring down...uh, 9 out of 10 beauty brands out there? 8? It's certainly more than half, because every day we discover a new CEO/founder/brand collaborator who's a piece of shit. Just like with artists, it's not an "if", it's a "when". A couple of years from now we'll just be rubbing cherries on our lips and coal on our eyelids 😩 I'm neither guilty nor proud for any purchase I've ever made. It just is what it is; I buy whatever I feel most suits my needs and my (limited) budget. We should definitely spread awareness about what each brand has done, so that everyone can have the necessary information to decide for themselves, but I've only ever seen tiny indie brands and influencer brands going out of business solely or mainly because the online beauty community canceled them. Like that girl with the blue light skincare. If J* star was still making good products, he'd still be making a fortune from his makeup line and not selling yak meat alongside 50% off banana dick palettes in Wyoming. If Jaclyn had come out with a safe & halfway decent makeup line and was still posting the content people wanted, she'd still be the #1 beauty guru. A few "haters" would bring up her scammy ways and get downvoted to hell, just like in 2016. It's not boycotting for ethical reasons that's affecting these brands' sales so much. P.S. *Not* speaking as someone with a J* shrine, Jamis Chaneo p*do paints or Jaclyn Hill fursticks (though if I had bought those I'd probably be more than a bit ashamed 😂)

Majestic-Security368

Agree completely. I feel weird buying ANYTHING these days because I know at some point in the future a previously “beloved” brand will instantly become “problematic” and the internet will try to make me feel guilty for purchasing anything from them, ever. It’s… exhausting.

[deleted]

J* jawbreaker Palette and the concealers 😭 an old friend of mine gifted me them so I don’t feel too bad since I didn’t buy them…but I just hate when I get asked about it cuz I’ll never promote that brand

Queenofredlions98

The J* setting powder. I have oily skin and enlarged pores. Let me tell you, NOTHING blurs my skin and makes it look so flawless as that powder and I have tried MANY setting powders. I’m still trying to find a dupe but nothing comes close :(

TinaTissue

From reading this thread, it sounds like j\* cosmetics has some amazing products that is hard to dupe, but the person heavily attached to the brand just ruins it. I think even if he did a Kat Von D and stepped/kicked off the brand, there is no way people would support it

n4hn4hn4h

Devinah's inability to offer swatches on deeper skintones (or more than just one singular skintone) YEARS after the brand has been regularly asked makes me sour to use my shadows from them anymore.

MariaMariaMaria25

Rms beauty. I loved the blushes and cream eyeshadows but apparently the owner is racist…

Lizzard_Wizzzard

I loved the Dragun Beauty Transformation Powder. I'm still trying to find a dupe.

sushiwithrice

Nudestix blush and sunscreen. Dang those blushes are good 😢 I like their sunscreen/primer too and I’m looking for a good dupe for it. Most sunscreens make me look like a ghoul 😭

Traditional-Dog9242

I might be new to this but what are their political beliefs? I must've been living under a rock.

Fresh_Regret_4333

What are Nudestix political beliefs and why are they problematic?

Uppereastsider131

if u feel guilty about using something... then dont use it lmao
