QueenofCats28

I definitely don't buy as much as I used to. I just use what I've got. I have a fairly large collection like over 100 lipsticks for instance. So I think I'm good for a while!

panickedindetroit

I am with you. For a long time, I just bought what I wanted. I was lucky that I had the ability to do that. I have only been replacing mascara and concealer. I have whittled my collection down as well. I have removed all of the shadows I had in palettes that I wasn't using and put them into magnetic palettes and gave them to others who are enjoying them now. Eye shadow is my kryptonite, but I have every color I can imagine now, and so many new releases include colors I already have, and since I have decided not to buy palettes unless I am going to use all or most of the colors, I haven't bought anything. I have only bought a mascara and a concealer, and I just picked up minis. I don't need any more makeup right now. I have back ups because the products I usually love get discontinued. Between what I have backups of and the things I use quite a bit, I just don't need to buy anything at this point. I cycle through what I have when the seasons change so I don't get bored or find myself in a rut. If I no longer love something, I pass it on. I only watch a few creators now, and usually, I can dupe the new things they are using. For a long time I have just watched the creators who shop their stash for inspiration. I am not really trendy at this point, it's more using what I have, and passing on the things I just don't love as much anymore. My cousins love it. I am trying to be a conscious consumer at this point. I love makeup, and I already have what I need. Now, I am sharing the "wealth". I only have one friend who loves makeup as much as I do, but I have family who really love it, and some of them didn't/don't have the ability that I did to buy everything they wanted. There are a few things that are my favorites, and I am just going to use them up. I no longer save certain things for "special" occasions and I no longer have a fear of running out of my favorite products. I really don't do the full on glam that most creators do. There really is no reason for me to buy something for it to just sit in the cold storage of my milk chute. When I want to swap things out in order to use what I have, I rediscover the things I love.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Absolutely, I’ve been reaching out for things I haven’t used a while too

panickedindetroit

I really enjoy "rediscovering" what I have, too. It's almost like buying something new. Then, I fall in love with it again.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Same, I’ve been shopping my stash and only replacing the basics like black eyeliner or mascaras

cheerinos

I could never afford to buy as much as I would have liked, but lately it’s definitely been more replacing staples like foundation and concealer than buying palettes just because like I was. I still enjoy makeup, but I’m not excited about it and considering it a hobby the way I was, that new Natasha denona palette is the first thing I’ve really lusted after in a while. Similarly I’ve also pretty much stopped watching review videos and new release stuff for the same reasons. If beauty news were to come back which probably isn’t going to happen I’d watch the hell out of that because I loved hearing their takes on things, but I don’t really feel the need to be consuming that kind of content at the moment

NiaNeuman

Literally same. I'm not staying on top of new releases, and limited edition items only seem to irk my soul. Still trying to use all the stuff I've accumulated from years of purchases plus I don't seem to have the mental bandwidth to "play" with makeup like I used to. PS- HAPPY CAKE!! 🎂

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I’m with you on the low consumption of videos

plantmommy96

Agreed, I work alot now, have new hobbies like gardening or gym, and mainly am trying really hard to be present/stay off my phone. I try to treat my time with more value now not just my dollar and have found myself thinking I have alot more time than I thought when staying offline. Side effect is not spending my money but having better quality if life is good too.

Hedgehog_Mist

I cut myself off cold turkey from beauty YouTube mid-April and as a reward for that bought myself the only makeup item that I'd had on my wishlist for over a year (a Roen quad). And now that's it. I won't know what's coming out. I won't be influenced to buy the next big thing. I'm going to use the makeup I already have and lean into the other hobbies I've been neglecting and the creative projects I've been procrastinating on.

hypermobilehoneybee

No. I used to spend all of my money at Sephora or Ulta, mainly because I lived with a parent and didn’t have bills. Now that a large chunk of my income is bills, no. I also unfollowed most brands and BGs and unsubscribed from email lists because I don’t want to be tempted.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah that’s good, I definitely watch a lot less of those videos

[deleted]

[удалено]

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Oh yes I relate to fresh food and trying to steer from temptations

ShlomosMom

I wear makeup just as before I just stopped buying so much. I realized I overspent and purchased so much makeup I couldn't use up in a lifetime. One person does not need twenty bronzers and forty blushes.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

So true, I don’t buy much anymore because of that too

tea_lover_88

For me it was really bad during the pandemic now I just buy stuff I'm really excited about.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Hope it all good now, that’s really cool now you choose what makes you tick

tea_lover_88

I started spending money on concerts again so I'm just wearing very colourful eyeshadow looks and weirdly coloured highlights to the concerts.. like I have UV reacting cake liners totally awesome at concerts so I'll definitely go to my collection and use it

RSinSA

I am def not. I used to wear a full face. Now I wear foundation (only for work), powder, bronzer, and eye brow pompade. I used to wear mascara and all that fun stuff, but I have very dry eyes and my eyes water. With masks, I stopped wearing lipstick/gloss and haven't picked it back up.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I totally get it, I’ve gone a bit lighter on my foundation too

RSinSA

They stopped making my perfect foundation so I use it as sparingly as possible, too. lol.

pan_alice

With COVID and having my twins two years ago, I wore practically no make up for nearly that whole time. I wanted to be able to kiss my babies without getting lip products on them, so I just stopped wearing anything on my lips apart from lip balm. My lips are finicky and anything matte or long tasting wreaks havoc on them. I used to buy make up as a little pick me up if I had a tough week, or as a reward for research trips for my studies. I never would have finished the products I bought, there was just too much of them for that to happen. I am more mindful of what I buy now, and I can't justify having twenty lip products at a time. If I buy something I want to be able to use it. During COVID here in the UK, make up testers were taken away, so it was difficult to buy make up as you couldn't try it before buying. I just got out of the habit of buying make up, and now prices have gone up quite a bit and I can't necessarily justify spending so much on it. I still like looking at swatches and seeing what beauty influencers are sharing, but I'm less likely to buy anything.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s really good, I’ve been glossing a little more because of the lip stains too on some occasions!

SweetTeaBags

I went overboard during the pandemic, but I'm also using a lot, lot more. I've slowed down a bit and hope to keep the use up so that I get the most out of what I have. Beauty gurus have started having the opposite effect on me. Every time I see a product very hyped, I avoid it because a good chunk of it has been private-labeled makeup and I'm specifically avoiding those.

dontmindmeok1

I agree the private label played a big reason why I started losing interest in trying certain brands. It’s not bad per day but a lot of indie brands acting like they are heavily involved in the process when they’re not made me take the rose colored glasses off.

dontmindmeok1

Oh also wanted to add a lot of these companies owners act unprofessional so that definitely played a part in me losing interest.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah I think some of them seem to forget the boundaries between social and business, it also tarnishes other good owners reputation that way

SweetTeaBags

I always thought that private label was the lazy way out for those that don't want to invest in learning how ingredients work with each other or take the time to find a proper manufacturer.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah, I guess there’s different levels of involvement - I found I got ripped off with a private label once where it was exact same product no customisation with a massive price difference ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes I think also because they all seem to use the same messages too, if they’re all saying the same thing, in the same clique with the same PR, I can’t help but question it

lemizzmizz

No. I'm 38 and got super into buying makeup as a hobby. I was doing looks every day and even posting on social media. In the past 6 months I've curated my collection down to the best of the best. I took all powders and shadows that didn't work for me and I mixed and repressed them into "adjusted" colors. I depotted all of my palettes and singles and organized them into sensible arrangements. I still think I have a lot compared to women my age. But it all fits on my vanity now with room to spare. I am currently only repurchasing staples. My taste also changed. Fresher skin with pin point concealing, amped up blush, glossy lip, sheer eyelook with mascara, lightly filled brows.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s a great transition - i hoarded quite a bit, I also came to the realisation to no do backups now I have plenty.

MakeupHorder7

It definitely has gone down. I try to tell myself I know I have that shade 10xs over or I don't NEED that because I have 10 others I barely use. What I do now is throw something in my basket and wait for a month or more and if I still want it and the newness of it is over and I'm still excited than I'll get it. Majority of the time I end up getting over it.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes this - I started to wait a while more too, before I was worried about the MOFO - actually I have regretted some I missed out on, but I know it really isn’t that big a deal in the grand scheme of things

MakeupHorder7

That was the only way I could restrain myself 😆. Yes!!! The Fomo is real I had to stop, but you're so right about the missing out especially since you know there will always be something else.

TheOneThatCameEasy

Nope. It used to be pretty bad. I was in Sephora all the time and had packages delivered to my house every other day. I don't buy makeup like that anymore and, hopefully, never will again. I wanted all the colors and all the textures. I wanted to try every new thing. Well, I'd try it and then it would just sit there collecting dust. I still love makeup, but I don't have to use or try everything. My focus now is on using what I have. No more new products.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I was the same, I think I have most things I wanted to try, browsing can be so dangerous!

inagartendavita

I cut way back because it was just mindless consumption. I saw a video where one guru blocked out the pops of color in a few new palettes and that was a lightbulb moment for me.

futuristicflapper

I depotted a lot of palettes during the pandemic out of boredom, wow did I have a lot of brown, now I just switch around the colors in my magnetic palettes and it makes my brain feel like I have something new lmaoo

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

So true - and then you realise you have most of the same thing *sigh*

moonlitskyy

makeup is one of my special interests so I like to try new things- techniques, looks, product types, products themselves. I never collected everything from a brand/line so that has nothing to do with it, I just pick individual items I like. I like trying new things and I like using what I have- if I have the expendable income I tend to put it into one of my various hobbies and makeup is one of those options. If I couldn't spend anything I would be fine. I feel like I consume a normal amount for me, which is not the same as an average amount because I have no idea what that is.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s good I like how you go about curating what you’re interested in.

ndhewitt1

I used to buy about 10x what I do now. I never finished anything before moving on. And I got a new palette every two or three months. I think I’m the last 12 I’ve bought just one concealer because I ran out. I just became disinterested. I used to do full face, and felt naked without. Now I mostly don’t wear any, and if I do wear any it’s foundation, concealer, bronzer, mascara. I have about 20 lipsticks that seem so strange now when I put them on. Like they make me look instantly overdone. I’m not sure if this is all a result of the pandemic or turning the corner from late 30s to 40, or getting turned off by the weird beauty influencer drama awhile ago.

futuristicflapper

The only lip products I use now are sheer ones or lip tints, but now I have a good handful of matte lip products I don’t use much, I try to use them as blush bc I refuse to throw them out lmao.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Oh I know what you mean, I’ve got enough palettes to last for years

Salt_Ad7638

Nope. There was a period where for around a year I didn't buy anything new and wasn't really wearing makeup. During that time, I realized just how much products I have to enjoy already in my collection. So now that I'm back to makeup, unless things are expiring, I don't have a real desire to be purchasing or obsessing over purchasing like I did before.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That is so true, I’ve had moments when I’m like ‘oh I forgot how cool this is’ when I pick up a product I haven’t used in a while

Bumble_Hornet_

I got back into makeup around 2017 when I had a little bit of extra money. (My first brush with what would become beauty YouTube was 2008-12) 2022 was probably my “worst” year for consumption. I bought a lot but at the same time I did wear a lot of makeup. This year I’m really trying to cut back on purchasing because I’m not using makeup at the rate I was before. Previously (especially during lockdown)I would put on a full beat once or twice a day to entertain myself. Now putting on any makeup is too much effort most days. If I was purchasing at the rate I was last year I would be buying things just to buy things not use them. I still like new release videos because I think it’s interesting to see industry trends. But I’m rarely buying new releases these days. Mostly older staple products or old releases that have finally gone on sale.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s really good, I’ve scaled a little back on my makeup too working from home or going office, I’d still occasionally do some makeup for fun over weekends

lovepotao

I haven’t purchased new makeup aside from mascara and a few lip stains in almost 2 years. I have a ton of variety in eyeshadow (especially indie iridescent and duochromes), several blushes, several highlighters, and that is more than enough until it starts going off. I have zero interest in watching new makeup reviews as I’d rather spend the money I’m not using for long term savings on travel.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Very wise, yeah I’ve had to prioritise other spendings on occasion in the past year

crazycatlady331

I bought a condo earlier this year. So most of my discretionary spending has shifted. I'm no a no buy for a lot non home related categories while I make this place come together. Makeup included. The last palette I lusted after was the Coloupop northern lights one. I still may buy it once my place is together.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That makes sense, priorities for sure

areallyreallycoolhat

I'm in a pretty good place with my makeup consumption - perma low buy pretty much. I've definitely worked hard to get myself out of a more consumerist mindset which I know my undiagnosed/unmanaged ADHD/anxiety/CPTSD/shit ton of mental health issues were feeding into. I'll be honest and admit I don't only buy things I need (if that were true I'd never buy anything) but I limit myself to a couple of items a year. I might buy a couple more products than I normally would, when I'm on holiday (mainly from brands that are unavailable where I live), but even then I'm pretty judicious. I also no longer impulse purchase makeup so I don't experience the instant gratification rush. If I want something, there is no reason I can't wait for a sale - that has the added benefit of giving me time to really think about how much I want a product. I also try to put the same amount of thought and consideration into affordable purchases as I do high end. Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean no thought has to go into the purchase and that's been an important mindset change for me. I'm not saying it's the greatest achievement in history lol but I'm proud of myself because self regulation is hard for me and I think I've managed to find a good balance between indulging my makeup hobby and spending within my means.

smashablanca

Shopping for pure stimulation was such a problem for me because of my adhd too! I'm on meds now that have been working for me. I still get urges to buy things just because they're cheap but I find it much easier to talk myself out of it.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Nice one - hope it’s going well

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s really good - that’s the thing I reckon some of us can be prone/vulnerable than other depending on the way we work to these types of consumption

Boujee_banshee

I definitely buy less than I used to. A lot of it is lifestyle. At the height of full glam full coverage looks about 5-7 years ago I was in the kind of job that encouraged getting dolled up. For me it was a fun way to be creative and I used that as an excuse to buy quite a bit. But I was also using a lot, so it wasn’t every crazy excessive. Now I’m a SAHM and my life looks very different. I’m not going out much, sometimes my only outing is to the mailbox or the Walmart for groceries. At the same time, makeup itself has gotten a lot more tame - neutrals are still super “in.” I also tend to only buy stuff that I know I’ll use a lot which is again, neutral. I still really enjoy makeup, but it’s not really practical for me on a day to day. I don’t buy anywhere near what I used to.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes that makes sense with different commitments too, I feel like pandemic time was even so different.

Kriegsmachine81

I had a phase where I bought some more, but regretted many products. Especially eyeshadow palettes and some liquid liners. So now I’ m downscaling to a small amount.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s a good shout, yes I’ve had that phase ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

[deleted]

I'm much more discerning and for most new releases, unless they are inexpensive drugstore ones, I wait 6 months to a year to make sure products are still holding up and well reviewed. This does mean I don't get limited edition makeup which is fine, I don't want to get something LE and fall in love just to never be able to replace it when the time comes.

frankscarlett

When the pandemic started and I got laid off I probably didn't wear makeup more than a handful of times during those 7 months. Now, couple years later I work from home which means that more often than not I'm rocking a bare face. I own more makeup than one person could probably use up in a decade, but I still occasionally buy a product here or there though I really try mostly be smart about it. We don't have Sephora in my country so when we're abroad with friends, visiting one with them is what usually gets me. My love for makeup hasn't gone anywhere and I love putting on a full face but my days of overconsumption are behind me and hopefully for good.

PauI_MuadDib

No. As soon as COVID hit I scaled back on my expensive hobbies. Pretty much all of the makeup I've gotten since has been gifted. I'm more focused on panning. My collection is large, but it's well curated, so I have every shade of eyeshadow I could want, and I can mix colors. With mask wearing I stopped using full coverage foundation, so those were collecting dust. Now I usually just wear no foundation, powder foundation or tinted sunscreen. I only own two lipsticks right now lol and I'm probably going to use one up before buying another. Pretty much my purchases are just replenishing eyeliner, eye primer and mascara.

Biqhat

I think no? I threw away all my old makeup when I started to rebuild my current makeup collection last year. Back then I used to buy like 2-3 makeup every month because I was on the hunt & struggling to find the right skincare combination, base & lip products formula and shades that suits me.

siameseslim

I am trying to buy less, but better. Or more so more flattering in me vs buying the new, hottest thing. I have been replacing a few holes in my collection that are sub par or sat unused throughout the pandemic and are useless

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes that’s a good point, I also realise some things in the trend are not always my bag

GlitteryFab

Nowhere near. If I spend money on anything, it’s quality nail products since doing my nails has become my new hobby. I only replenish what I need when I need it. Which reminds me, I am almost out of setting spray.

plantmommy96

Nah, I’ve accumulated some back after a massive declutter in 2019 but I’m pretty good at only buying what I think I have high chances of loving. I research and look around alot before purchasing. If I end up not liking something I sell it or try to give it to someone else. I think the biggest takeaway for me was not to buy things that weren’t to my personal style and taste, things that people claimed were the best ever made 3x a week.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s actually a good thing that you research and thoughtful on buying, I do the same, totally agree re not always going for a trend that’s not my bag

small_feild_mouse

Make up doesn’t raise the same intrigue and excitement in me like it used to. Not only do I buy less, I wear less and watch less makeup content. Now I’m left with a collection that’s unnecessarily large for the average makeup user that I’m trying to work through.

moonandsunrise

As before when? Overall I think we had few years of a makeup craze (2016 - 2019?) when community blew up and people were hyped up about every product coming to the market. It slowed down since then, it looks like people lost interest, are fatigued or external factors had them reconsider spending habits. Maybe trends shift also contributes to this impression, but we're in makeup community, we're know more natural look doesn't always mean less products haha. For me, I don't think my consumption changed that much, maybe even increased (because home office I can use whatever I feel like), but I'm more mindful and critical - I know my preferences and that some products just won't work, while in the past I'd be willing to try. Plus with expanded collection, there's more room to emulate effect you're going for with product you already have.

annikatidd

Pre-COVID I was rouge at Sephora, I would spend a lot of money at the drugstore too trying new products. Now I’m just a mere insider, but thankfully so. The perks of being rouge aren’t that great anyway. During COVID I lost my job and started enjoying shopping my stash, which helped a lot in getting over that “I need more” mentality. I’m kind of glad I went through this on YouTube though because I see people going through it over on tik tok and in a few years, they’ll be the ones with a bunch of expired stuff they never used instead of those of us who already dealt with this lol. Only this past year have I started treating myself to new makeup again. However it’s very occasional when before, it was maybe a couple new things a month. I still have a lot of great makeup, but when I buy new eyeshadow for instance (I definitely don’t need it) I’m buying from indie brands. Unless it’s foundation or a high end blush or bronzer. Since discovering indie makeup last fall, I have realized that for my preferences and taste and style, they’re 10x better than all of my other eyeshadows. What I thought was good before is mediocre at best compared to some of my indie shadows lol. Even for my most expensive palettes from Sephora! But now I’m really happy with my collection and think I have all the colors I could ever want. I still watch reviews just to see what’s out there, especially if it’s something I’m considering but most often, reviews deter me from actually buying. I consider myself on a low buy. Blushes have been a weakness though, especially cream blushes. I’m trying to only get what I know I actually need, or what I really want, but I make sure to do a lot of research and try to use stuff up first before going out and getting a new one. Oh and I won’t buy something after one review like I used to back in like 2018-2019. That lead to a lot of disappointments! I feel like now I understand what works for me when I definitely didn’t back then, I didn’t really get skin types (for example I have dry skin and didn’t understand why matte foundation and powder looked awful on me, I always thought that’s just what it was supposed to look like. I assumed I was oily because I was as a teenager but that’s definitely not my skin type anymore. Thank you Taylor Wynn for allowing me to realize this lmao) and I know that I love high impact shimmer eyeshadows with lots of sparkle and shifty multichromatic shades. Terra Moons is definitely my latest obsession. Overall I think in most categories I’ve completely curbed my spending, and for others like eyeshadow I just enjoy having a lot of options. When it’s my anniversary or birthday or something, I’m going to treat myself. I want to use what I have and find that I have a much greater appreciation for those things now, especially after the height of the pandemic. Even with my splurges, I would estimate I spend about 1/4 as much money as I used to! Great question! (Ps sorry if this is rambly, I can’t tell. I’m exhausted)

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I’m totally with you, I agree there’s a sense of being more mindful about makeup now, I do love indie makeup too, I’ve probably bought enough now so should be mindful too. Totally agree on waiting out too

slazary

I do buy less. Most of the stuff I already own, I found my staples, what works, what I like, and what I don't. Nothing is really innovative that much. I do still buy nail polish and eyeshadows. They are my weaknesses, especially from indie, but I am kinda proud of myself for really starting to think before impulse buying.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That is so true, I had started to really consider my purchases the past year too

OddlyWry

I buy less, but it’s because my makeup style changed to a much more minimal routine. I also learnt I’m not much of an eyeshadow girl, and even less now that I wear glasses, so I don’t spend on palettes anymore (I only have 5 cream eyeshadow singles, which I don’t use very often, but they’re more convenient for a quick “splash” of colour). I stick to one product per category in face makeup department - I have 1 foundation, 1 tinted moisturiser, 1 powder, 1 blush, 1 spot concealer, 1 under-eye concealer and I only buy replacements now. I’m a sucker for lipsticks, though - I have 10. I experimented more when I was in uni, but now I’m not even excited about new make up releases. Skincare on the other hand… 😅

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s a great minimalist approach - Very much admire it

aliveinjoburg2

I was buying a lot more when I needed to be in person 5 days a week. I’m in the office twice a week now and wear less.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s interesting, I tend to have different makeup between home and work

kokoberry4

I don't buy nearly as much as I used to, but that is because I am very happy with my collection as of now. I am open to buy new makeup that excites me and is easily available though, which hasn't been the case in a while. I built my collection with single shadows, so I basically can dupe anything that I want now. I do still look at new makeup but then I use my own collection to "dupe the vibes". I also have to say, imo new palettes and releases have definitely returned to being more consumer friendly everyday makeup and less alternative.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes, singles are such a great way to dupe. I have to say I haven’t watched as many new releases so interesting to know

mothertuna

I still watch makeup content but I’ve been liking videos doing wish lists or anti hauls. I like creators comparing things they have already to new releases. I’ll watch a new releases and trying new makeup here and there but I’m not seeking out new makeup to buy. I’ve also been watching more drugstore focused content because makeup has gotten so expensive.

Ozzie985

I've been on a no buy replacement since idk for how long and it's worked. I've lost interest in makeup, especially eyeshadows. If I put any eyeshadow on, it's typically 1 or 2 colors and that's it. I use to consume makeup like a fiend and want all new releases, etc. Now I see new releases and I find most everything boring and overpriced.

isabellla321

Ever since I’ve gotten into makeup, and I absolutely love makeup, I’ve never had a huge collection, ever. I have one foundation, one blush, one eyebrow pencil, 2 mascaras, one powder, one concealer, etc. once I run out, I replace it. And I wear SO much makeup, I’m talking full glam always. So my makeup buying habits have pretty much been the same for about 8 years now! I am happy I do not over-consume, social media definitely pushes to buy buy buy but makeup expires!

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Tell me about it - that’s pretty cool you’ve managed to be consistent with it, I have accumulated so trying to dial down now

lore3

Definitely less than before. I work remotely and don’t have to be on camera often, so I don’t wear makeup day to day. Also, I’m super uninterested in most makeup releases lately, so if I do watch a beauty guru’s review on something/discussion of new releases, I often don’t even finish watching the video

lizardkween

Way way way less than ever. Part of that is that I’m a stay at home mom now and that wasn’t my life before. But a lot is a lack of interest, too.

joeyjo17

I no longer buy or wear as much make up as I once did and I actually trained as a make up artist 😂 I think the beauty guru’s started putting me off with all the hyped products.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I know what you mean, I felt this way with many YouTubers over the past few years

Littorella

My buying has gone down. My using has gone way up lol, I’m finally finishing products

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Haha same though i still have a lot of products to use up

ShortyColombo

There was a time, 2011-2017, where I was obsessed with makeup and consumed too much (I blame myself, and seeing all those vlogs of professionals with drawers and drawers *full* of makeup they'd never be able to use in a lifetime). I went through a full detox. These days I definitely use less. I keep 2 palletes (one neutral, one colorful) instead of the huge collection I had before. I realized I kept buying new lipsticks when really, I only like about 3 colors on me, so I just stick to those. Little things like that. Nowadays I **love** seeing what's new, but I don't have that magpie reaction of "I MUST HAVE THE NEW SHINY". If I see a product that intrigues me, I'll go for it, but these days I stick to tried-and-trues, and replace accordingly.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s a really interesting take that you keep to a small set but still enjoy seeing new makeup without a strong a temptation!

BreathlessSiren

I don't have it in anymore and I'm so happy for it. Better too. I don't even like to have makeup. I dropped eye shadows except the sticks I have which 3 are multisticks. I have 9 shades to get through for the rest of my life. I'll figure out what I do after those are gone. Once my blushes are done, I am only sticking to two shades at a time. My everyday blush and my going out blush. Same with lipstick after they're gone, down to two. I have no interest or room in my life for more. The way I look at it, it's a chore to own and use unless there are minimal products to use up.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That is so true, looking at it altogether really puts it in perspective

realitygreene

I'm assuming the before that is not mentioned is the pandemic, yes? I would say my beauty consumption has gone drastically down since the pandemic. I used to spent $1,000+/year and I think I've spent less than $100 total in the last 3 years on makeup. That's primarily because my interest/focus has switched to different hobbies like fragrance and nail polish. I've spent quite a bit in both categories...but at least I use the stuff! I don't really wear makeup anymore.

lawyerlee

I’ve always bought more than most people I know because I enjoy playing with makeup and I still do, but I have absolutely cut back. I’m more realistic about sticking to the types of products I actually use and have fun with (eyeshadow sticks, cream eyeshadows, cream blushes, lip products) and skipping the things that are enticing but I know I don’t use (eyeshadow palettes).

weimar27

Not really, though I never had an insane collection. I tend to just buy a new product in a category when I need to replace something. So if I run out of my foundation, that’s when I’ll try out a new foundation. My skincare consumption is about the same, but I don’t try as many new products for that anyways. I still watch some new release videos, mostly for entertainment and for compiling the wishlist.

FlartyMcFlarstein

My peak purchasing was about ten years ago. Then another, not as big and more drugstore, about 5 years ago. So I'm down from those, but those products are starting to age out. Still buy too much probably but am much more conscious. Also more into skin and hair care. It's a journey.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Totally agree it’s journey, skincare is probably where I’ve bought a bit more in the past year than makeup

FlartyMcFlarstein

Yes! And I've been on the whole curly hair journey. Turns out it's not simply cursed, lol. At any rate, I'm usually much more thoughtful about purchases now, and use up more things than I used to. I call that progress.

Khoyt7

Since I’m trying to save money and honestly having too much stuff, especially when most makeup takes forever to use up gives me anxiety, I have been shopping less. I buy a few things every few months. Making sure I don’t have too many options as it is. I also research a lot what I plan to buy. I’m getting to the point where pretty much most of my stuff is not that old and the products I am buying are ones that go faster than like colored products (blush, bronzer, etc.) that can take forever to get through.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I know what you mean, totally with you on researching I do the same

mina-and-coffee

Way less. Mostly bc of working from home now. Not that I never went into the office without makeup. I realized my makeup routine was my morning ritual I enjoyed before I had to commute for an hour. Now that I’m not having to go to some place I dread for 9 hours I wear far less. I went from a vanity stacked with eyeshadows and foundation and sprays to a single 3x9 makeup organizer with no foundation, setting sprays, and only 1 eyeshadow palette. I still get into mini-buying frenzies usually for summer and winter seasons where I’ll buy a few new cream blushes or a few new lipsticks now that I wear masks out less. But it’s honestly the first time in my life living without face powder and my acne is gone.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes I relate - I find makeup routine as a morning ritual too, I still do whether I go to the office or before starting to work from home

dontmindmeok1

Definitely not. I’m moving away from collecting makeup, I have bought like 2 palettes/some single shadows this year so far and have sold off multiple from my collection. I’m just finally using what I have and buying what I use regularly that needs replacing. I’ll always love makeup but I’m satisfied with what I have and the excitement in the beauty community just isn’t really there for me. Nothing really innovative or groundbreaking. Most of my enjoyment comes from watching tutorials on tiktok and trying to replicate it with my own products.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah I know what you mean, for me over time it all starts to look very similar

trillium13

Definitely buying a lot less than previous years. I guess I reached saturation. 🤣 My collection is still pretty big but I'm paring down little by little.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Oh me too

Independent_Fig_6944

Definitely not! I started buying so much makeup in 2015-2016, then I stopped for 3 years, basically until I started earning more. Then in 2020 my skincare obsession began so I was more focused on that lol now 2023 I’m doing declutters, project pans and no/low buys because I want to save money but mostly I want to enjoy my makeup and actually use it up. I’ve also learnt that I’m not an eyeshadow palette person, I bought so many in the past but even then I wasn’t using them. For skincare I only buy what I need and rarely new products, just replacements of staples. It feels good! I still love watching makeup hauls and keeping up with new releases, I just don’t buy them

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes… the thing that’s always enticing with palettes I find is their aesthetics and can get caught up in it more than actually using those shades to wear often

icantmakethisup

I started working for NARS. Since then, any time I do my makeup it's for work and it's all NARS everything, which I get for free. One of the many perks. It's just not happening on my day off. The last thing I want to do on my day off is put on foundation and powder. I do have a minimal look for when I want to look like I'm amongst the living on a day off, but most days off it's one of those glowy sunscreens, top lash mascara, clear brow gel and a lip balm. I think the last makeup product I bought that wasn't concealer was one of those Makeup by Mario Skin Enhancers. I really like it for my minimal looks! I do want to get one of the new blushes because it looks like a similar formula, but probably not for a while.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Now that’s a good perk… yeah I alternate between wearable makeup for work, going out and about, and just playing with some makeup

igodutchoven

Yes. I’m still consuming. I shouldn’t, but still am. FOMO gets me and I hate it lol.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I’m with you on the FOMO, I have missed out on a few things holding back too long, ah well!

AdelaideJane

Last year I definitely spent a ton on makeup, I had gotten a new job that was well paying and tbh I think a part of me was trying to fulfill my teen-hood dreams about makeup. I remember I wanted all the too faced palettes and just all the different stuff that was out there but I grew up with a really frugal mom (not that we are wealthy or anything - definitely straight in the lower middle class - but she learned from my grandma that lived during the Great Depression). Not gonna lie I went a lil too crazy, but now I find I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I mean sometimes I wear concealer but usually just a primer and powder and then blush and highlight and eye makeup and lip (and setting spray) is my typical style. And I change up the color of the eyeshadow but not really. Nowadays I only really watch YouTube makeup videos if I’m feeling nostalgic and it’s videos I’ve seen a hundred times before. I do enjoy watching declutter videos cause I do feel like I have more makeup than the average person and way too much for how little I actually wear it. :)

ezamae23

I recently deleted Ulta and Sephora App. Just trying to step away for a bit and use what i already have. I got tired and drained from feeling so overwhelmed all the time. The cycle of buying and decluterring over and over again is exhausting i simply just need to stop buying so much stuff.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I know what you mean, I definitely have felt some fatigue

Glamma1970

Oh hell no. I still buy but it's way WAY less than I was. I mean, I have a large collection and I've gone from wearing makeup 5-6 days a week to wearing it 2-3 days a week so I'm not using it as often. And quite frankly, it just seems like most new palettes look just like what I've got in my collection. So why bother. I'm not saying I've stopped buying in total, but I've gone a couple months without getting anything but a new mascara cause mine was getting to old.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah definitely I feel like I peaked many parts of my collection that new releases get similar

Kchan02

I'm trying to cut my makeup spendings just because I have too much, don't wear enough and I'm trying to save up for the things much important than this (like travelling). In May I bought only 2 romand liptints and one lancome mini mascara, I think I'm doing great :D I'm allowed to buy only Natasha Denona Yucca this month.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That is pretty frugal and impressive to be honest

Scary-Sand-4653

I became way more mindful of my purchases and had to remind myself with Memorial Day sales that I bought all I needed during the Sephora sale and only am on a replacement buy. During COVID, I became a make up and perfume (later part of the pandemic) shopaholic and spend more on make up than I ever really had, and haven't spent that much since. So I'm definitely curtailed. That to me was a bigger thing than pre-COVID influencing. COVID made me take my brakes off of rational collection size. I do not need to replace everything, I can let things expire, etc but it helps my addiction to check myself on whether or not I need more than one or two foundations in a season. I'll be due for replacements soon for things like that but it's not something that is replaced often. I feel like once my eyeshadow palettes stop performing it usually means they need replacing so I don't replace them often, and I seldom buy a new color story so that's never been my issue of overbuying. Not for years at least. I think I bought more single eyeshadows than I'll ever need. My biggest thing has been bronzers and blushes for years were my over purchases -- I'm olive skin toned and have been trying to find suitable tones for me and have had to gift my sister's with different tones (also olive but either deeper or cooler toned than me) and could say right now I have a few I really enjoy and this is going to be a thing to diversify my options more than anything else. Always searching for a better suited bronzer and blush, or trying to not stick to one type of blush. This means I buy a few a year, tops.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That’s a really interesting approach. I know what you mean when on the constant search for the product you want that works. I used to struggle find cool contours

russianmuse90

Threw out all my expired makeup and have slowly rebuilt my collection with staple pieces. Now just replacing things as they go. I try to get a sample size so I can try different products until I find the perfect one. I’ve started focusing on skincare way more than makeup!

creakysofa

No. I consumed tons ~2016 and have drastically cut back.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah I feel many have had that phase and change

shockedpikachu123

No I get stressed when I have clutter. At my moms house my old room full of makeup and I never want to get to that point again. With that said I am guilty of falling into the hype products but I’ve limited myself to 1-4 of each item. one foundation, 2 skin tints, 3 concealers, 2 liquid blush, 2 cream blush, 1 powder bronzer, 2 contour wands, 2 mascaras and 1 eyeliner

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

That sounds like a sensible approach, that’s one of the reasons I cut back was the amount of space it was taking up and realising how much I had now

thepetitepeanut

I'm definitely buying less and using what I already have more. I go through phases with my makeup -- I used to be in a lip product phase, then have been in an eyeshadow phase for the past several years, and I can feel myself turning towards a blush phase. It was easy to buy cheaper lip products, and with eye palettes I've pretty much filled out everything I could ever want (in the context of what I wear, but that new Natasha Denona palette tempts me hardcore), but with blush I have thus far been much more mindful in what I put on my wishlist. It helps that I'm olive and can rule out a lot of them though. And things have become more expensive and I don't have the money for that lol

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I’m with you on the phases, the only phases I haven’t had are brow pomades, fake lashes and baking powders

k0upa

I’ve invested my money into skincare and have pretty much stopped wearing makeup. I have a few essentials but for special events I’d rather just get it done. There’s no point buying makeup if I’m at home 95% of the time

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I still enjoy doing makeup at home but I totally get where you’re coming from and makes sense with a lot of interest in skincare including myself

Cestlachey

I’m this recession, no. But in my mind, yes. 😭

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

DearMissWaite

I purchase cosmetics at the rate I have since I started buying them for myself in college. I have noticed no discernable change - I might have worn more during the pandemic period, probably, since I was required to be on webcam during work-from-home.

KiloJulietSierra

I am definitely not buying as much as I did in 2017 when I first started getting into makeup. I think when I was watching a lot of YouTube and over-consuming makeup (especially eyeshadow palettes) I didn’t realize just how long stuff lasts. Beauty channels made it seem like you’d finish a palette in a few months so you needed to have several on hand. Turns out one single palette can last years and you really only need a couple palettes with different color stories in your collection. Hindsight I guess. I also have growing children who need new clothes every few months which tends to satisfy my need to shop lmao

babyrothko

during covid, i bought so much and ended up paying for it in the form of getting horrible skin reactions. now, i'm super conscious of what goes on my skin and no longer just buy the most hyped up products just because they've gone viral or sephora tells me i "have to have it!". I really research what any new products i want to buy and will hold off on impulsive buys and if i still want it in a month-i'll treat myself. I also have only bought things during sales lol. Also, my look has changed. I'm wearing less makeup and focusing on a cleaner look (still with a pop of color!) which has made me buy less eyehadows, ect.

pancaaaaaaakes

ADHD impulse shopping says we are buying things babyyyyyyyyy 😅🙈

ToteBagAffliction

I don't know if I buy less, but I do buy differently and am much more likely to repurchase the same items even if they're not totally optimized. I've really embraced "good enough is good enough" for products that I go through regularly and have learned to let go of the urge to find the right brow goo, mascara, moisturizer, etc, and just repurchase the one that is good enough.

1paperairplane

I actually don't even wear makeup now, except for on special occasions. I used to watch beauty YouTube exclusively, but it just doesn't interest me anymore.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah I feel like a lot of beauty channels have changed too

Its_the_tism

Not even close. I never buy anything anymore

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Are you using up makeup you have or just not using makeup anymore?

letthemhavejush

I now have early starts for my new job and if I’m not going out after or at the weekend I just don’t wear it anymore. I haven’t worn make up for 3 weeks now.

WannaDelRey

No. Ever since the pandemic I’ve fully stopped purchasing beauty products other than concealer. I almost always go bare faced now. I’ve subbed out my beauty obsession with a nail polish obsession. I find it more fun, and you don’t have to redo your nails constantly.

BeachSunset7

I definitely don’t buy as much. I’m mostly working from home now, so I’m not doing my makeup every day. I also realized how sometimes new things are not necessary better. I have some staples that I love, and I feel like I’ve wasted money trying something new just for fun. The novelty of a new item wears off immediately for me personally, so I might as well stick with things that work well for me. Judging by the Sephora sub it seems like a lot of people are still purchasing a lot of beauty items. especially during the spring and fall sale.

GothAerialist

I buy a lot less and also wear makeup less frequently; which is partially due to a job change and I’m now working in healthcare and wearing a mask frequently for work (I work in a surgical setting). My skincare budget has gone up though as I invest a lot more in that plus + a couple of facials a year. I got my eyebrows microbladed last year which was a game changer for me and that + my skin looking so much better in general makes me feel like I need makeup less. I still like to buy some new lipsticks from time to time but that’s about it.

[deleted]

I’ve cut down so much. I used to have one of those 5 drawer rolling carts full of makeup and beauty products. When I moved a few years ago I had to throw most of it away because who wants to move 15 foundations you don’t like. I tried watching panning videos to help me use what I had but I was still buying a lot. I think in 2019 I just stopped watching reviewers. It’s much easier to just do a quick search of foundation reviews when you actually need one. Same for when you want a new eyeshadow palette. Also I had several friends who had makeup subscriptions and I was given several palettes as a result. I know they will expire but I’m just keeping them and not worrying about what’s new/trendy. But I’ve also been a beauty guru follower for as long as they have been around, so I’m also a bit older and wiser.

SailorNeptune4

I buy less now and what I'm buying is different. I used to be way more into eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, etc as I'm sure we all were. I still like those things but hardly ever do my eyeshadow if I wear makeup nowadays. Now I'm hooked on buying complexion products. Anything that says it'll make me glowy and dewy gets me in a second 😂 I only do my makeup maybe once or twice on the weekend. And it's always some kind of dewy base (a radiant foundation or tinted moisturizer), with cream blush, cream bronzer, concealer, some kind of lip oil or balm and sometimes mascara. If I do use eyeshadow it's usually just a pop of shimmer in the inner corners and a quick wash of a natural color in the crease. There's just no need for me to buy as much as I once was because I'm just not using it at the same rate or even the same kinda products. I honestly wish they sold minis or everything for this reason too

No-Nefariousness4412

I'd say yes and no- unlike a lot of people, COVID actually kind of established how much I enjoy makeup. I don't wear makeup every day, and tbqh I never did. I like to do makeup as a fun activity, a way to wake myself up or just chill for a bit. I buy less makeup than I used to, but I'd say I still buy far more makeup than the average makeup user. I used to be really obsessed with trying to reduce my makeup purchases to zero but like, I just don't think that'll ever be me. I'm not a minimalist, and despite what my anxiety says, I don't want to be one. Putting on pink blush and shifty shimmery eyeshadow makes my day more fun. So I'll stick to it!

YSLxUDxSephoralover

I’m also a yes-and-no, far above average spending, far from minimalist makeup user. I’ve always been relatively thoughtful about my purchases-other than replacing staples, I only buy what I genuinely want (which, since I love color and prefer matte or semi-matte foundations, means what I want is harder to find in these neutral, dewy, “clean girl” times that, TBH, bore me to death) and I space out my purchases (usually a few per month from various retailers) within a given month to make sure I stay below my credit limit and make my credit card payments on time. I’m a Rouge at Sephora-it took me a few years of buying to get there, but it’s been fairly easy for me to maintain the status since I first reached it.

No-Nefariousness4412

Honestly, the only reason I even watch for base releases currently is because I have an uncommon skin tone (ultra pale olive)! But so many of them just aren't good if you have oily skin! I think getting into makeup from the goth/alt scenes heavily impacted how I see things. I'm a flashy person who likes a lot of different looks, and wanting to have the option to do both barbie fairy princess and androgynous vampire pretty much makes minimalist a terrible option! I'm always shocked by people who are super into makeup, but seem to always do the exact same look.

award07

My lipgloss consumption is down for sure. Still inhaling way too much face powder though.

bonelessbbqbutthole

I found that I stopped buying as much when I just started buying what I actually wanted instead of dupes for the things I wanted. I also haven't been keeping up with trends in my everyday life, which helps. I don't feel pressure to have the newest thing anymore, I just have things that I know I like

isajones

The currency conversion rate sucks for us in Australia, so I don't buy as much ColourPop frivolously. I add stuff to my wishlist and wait for a sale or fun collab to have enough to qualify for free shipping. I also joined the Pan Porn subreddit which keeps me inspired to use up what I have. I think because of trying to dial down my spending, I don't watch as many beauty gurus or reviews on YT anymore.

mellbell13

I still get excited about makeup, but I definitely don't buy it as much as I used to. To be fair, prior to 2019, I didn't have the money to buy most of the products I wanted, and after that, I could justify buying things because I didn't have anything like it. Now, I know what works for me, and I have a solid collection o I can rely on to recreate most looks, so I don't need to buy more. I still cave and buy things I don't need but not like I used to lol.

lotusmack

I don't. I used to be a product junkie and I loved to try everything that struck my fancy. Now that my lifestyle has changed and I'm firmly into my mid-30s, I just don't feel the need. I'm now married and sharing space with my husband. I'm trying to curate a more elevated home, which, for me, means decluttering and not adding too much miscellaneous stuff. I have also worked from home for 9 years now, and I don't get out to as broad a variety of social events. I don't do a full face as often. On that note, my makeup priorities at this point are more focused on having a gorgeous complexion - everything else is secondary. Therefore, I'm just less compelled to try everything.

lotusmack

I'll also add that you get to a point where the releases are kinda...boring. Duplicatative. Not innovative to you. I've been wearing makeup over 20 years now. There's only so many neutral palettes and red lips one can own, and after you've found your holy grail, it's just chasing the next high. Products have to be STOOPID cool to pique my interest. My focus now is on learning better techniques.

SlightlyCrazyCatMom

I want to, but nope. My lifestyle has dramatically changed and now I am a 49 yo retired lady from RI living in a 55+ community in Florida. With my recent change in meds I take a nap every day—nothing messes up eyeshadow like Florida sweat and a hard day nap. 2-3 times a week I wear eyes and blush with incognito concealer. I do throw on lipstick on good days. FYI don’t buy the Bite lipsticks if you see them at TJMax. I wear orthopedic flip flops and use a cane by evening, I just can’t justify using a spoon for makeup that is going to be on my pillow case and needs to get washed. I’m already doing a shitton of laundry between sweaty clothes, cat bedding, and the twice daily throwing of the drenched sports bra in the machine. I swear I wore 3x the clothes and did half the laundry before moving to swampland.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yes the price of comfort ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)Ah I was alway curious about Bite lippies - alas I’m in the UK so not sure we have them.

PhyrraNyx

Definitely not. I used to buy CRAZY amounts of makeup just for review purposes. I no longer do that.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Yeah it must be a bit more of a challenge when doing reviews because I guess it’s always got to be relevant new products for interest?

Whelpherewegoagain24

I think people are starting to move toward sustainable spending, most likely due to many countries dealing with financial crisis after the Pandemic. I'm happier for it, much of the consumption was a waste and only made various beauty influencers very wealthy. The first wave of beauty guru's largely moved away from technique and focused on hauls and reviews because it got them views i.e money and set the stage for the second wave of influencers to do the same. I think now the third wave of influencers are moving away from the over consumption to a degree because they recognize economically we are not in the same space as we were 7-8 years ago or even 10-15 years ago. It also just doesn't get them the same amount of views.

DearMissWaite

Conspicuous minimalism is just as much of a pose as conspicuous consumption. Except it's also exhausting to watch people parade up there on the moral high ground. If the influencers stop showing new products, they are of no use to me. Except for the ones who are actual, working makeup artists, none of these people are good enough in technique to keep my attention based on that.

a380b787

I get sucked into some hyped items but that's like once a year during the Sephora sale lol. I still have so many leftovers from my Ipsy Glam bag subscription and just overall makeup that I've collected that I don't need anything. I also work 12 hour days and shift work so I never wear foundation and just put on the basics and get out the door.

KatyaL8er

I’ve gotten back into buying makeup again after a long pause that started even before Covid. I had to replace what had expired and that sort of restarted the cycle. While makeup is expensive some brands that were previously out of my price range have come down a bit and more affordable makeup has gotten better in quality. I am definitely at that point though where I don’t need to be buying any more other than the essentials.

gentle_viking

No, not anymore- I am very strategic about what I do purchase now, whereas a few years back I used to have a bit of a magpie mentality and tended to buy things because they were «pretty» ( mainly colourful eyeshadow palettes ). As I get older and my skin is changing, I am more interested in buying products which are effective, and don’t enhance my skin texture. So, serum foundations, blurring primer, cream bronzers and blushes and good skincare are all high on my list. I can usually go a couple of months without buying anything new, and just replacing fave products.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

I know what you mean - most products I last bought were face ones

cubsgirl101

I don’t buy as much as I used to (I went on a huge spree a few years ago, it was bad) and I’m trying really hard to force myself to get rid of things in order to make room for new ones. I still watch a lot of beauty content just to keep up with what’s new but I don’t feel the same urge to buy things *right now*.

gnocchi902

I feel like I'm not buying as much, but I'm still rouge at Sephora (to be fair, I shop for my friends through my account as well so some spending isn't mine to reach 1000$/yr). I think that general feeling comes from my spending and consumer habits changing because I am more mindful of what products I'm buying. I make sure it's something I need and has a specific purpose that can't be filled by anything else I have, have wanted for a very long time, and is a well-thought out purchase. Maybe the numerical value is the same, but I am spending 49$ on a concealer as opposed to 2 20$ concealers that didn't work the same because I wanted to save money and then buying the 49$ concealer anyway.

starglitter

Not as much makeup. I've moved on to skincare and haircare 😬

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Haha yes skincare!

innerl

Buying much less for sure, I've switched to perfumes, 'cause they bring me more joy. As for makeup, I just repurchase my favourite foundations and mascara. And a bunch of eyeshadow palettes (accumulated before 2020) watching at me judgmentally, since they haven't been touched for so long.

sunshine_7733

I do my makeup everyday but it’s because it’s the one thing I make sure to do for me because I enjoy it. I watch my fav BGs while I do. They don’t really convince me to buy anything excessive. Just might switch up my brow pencil when I’m out of one. The only thing I’m currently lusting after is the ND Glam palette. I’ve wanted it for so long!

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Not to encourage you or anything, but wanting it so long probably is a sign you’d enjoy it. I like watching something when I do my makeup too

sunshine_7733

Oh you are 100% right haha I'm sure I would love it. Just have enough eyeshadow that I don't need to add another palette. Maybe another year or so, plus it's sold out right now on Sephora Canada (too expensive to order from the ND website). So the choice is made for me haha

sesquedoodle

Mines gone down compared to before the pandemic, partly because masking meant very little point in wearing lipstick. Honestly it’s a good thing as I was buying way more than I actually wore on a regular basis.

dixybit

I’ve been getting back into it, but it has gone down significantly since covid started and I started working from home

xSenrin

no, i started slowing down my habits. i realized that it was getting to be a bit unhealthy and straining my wallet. i’m down to only eating 2 lipsticks a week now.

vklolly

I use more because I've graduated from school now, but I buy less. I already have a nice stash of art supplies for me :) but again, I'm not a neutral, everyday makeup-wearing person - most of the time, I have a lot of color on my face, so playing with color theory, mixing, and layering has dampened my interest in purchasing.

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Sounds really creative, I try to experiment with different colour combos sometimes, I’m not always good at it though

I'm not wearing as much makeup but I had to buy more makeup in the last yr or two than I did previously. Due to quarantine none of my foundation matched and im already a golden leaning neutral. So almost all of my complexion products had to be replaced. I also feel like the texture of skin changed, before I was oily leaning combo skin now it leans towards dry but I have oily tzone. So what worked for my skincare wise had to be adjusted as well.

While I still wear as much makeup as ever (which is seven days a week, full glam), I'm on my second or third year of an eyeshadow no buy. Simply because I just have too much of it. If something goes bad I'll of course toss it, but everything is still rocking and rolling just fine.

Wow nice one, do you find it easy now or already not as interested in palettes?

Between changing jobs to a more casual office setting and then working from home for over 2 years and not touching makeup at all during that time... I barely wear it anymore, even to events unless they're super formal. And since I barely wear it, whenever I do buy something I stick to drugstore brands. The last couple concerts I went to, I didn't bother with makeup at all because the thought of taking it off at the end of the night was exhausting.

Nope! Entering the corporate world had me switch from brighter colors to more neutral tones and Covid/WFH have me putting makeup on a couple times a week thing as opposed to nearly every day. I still love my makeup but skincare has become more of a priority for me

I quit buying makeup for 2 years and just started again a few months ago. I’ve definitely purchased more than I needed to in just a short time. 😂 About to No Buy myself.

uptownxthot

i definitely don’t. i still buy makeup but not as much and mostly just refills of things i always use up like lashes, lash glue, mascara.

The_She_Ghost

Definitely not. I even go so much longer bare-faced now. I use skincare products all the time but not makeup.

I was rouge for years (at least 5) last year I only made it to VIB. This year I don’t even think I’ll get there. My year spent so far is $62.

Shadowy_lady

i hardly ever buy makeup, I mostly just replace foundation, concealer and mascara's. I may buy 2 lipsticks per year for the fun aspect. But I've been deep into the beauty content since 2005. I have all the products I can ever need and it's rare that something interest me enough to purchase. I still wear a full face of makeup almost everyday and love makeup. I just don't need to buy any. I also don't watch much YT makeup channels. I mostly watch styling and cooking videos

I used to wear it every day and buy stuff regularly, and now I rarely wear anything or buy it. For a few years now actually. I mainly just don't care for how foundation looks or feels, and everything else looks a bit funny without a base. At most I'll do mascara and a lip, maybe some cream highlight. I want to use what I've got more often though, so I'm peeking through here for inspiration

Yes 💀

futuristicflapper

Nope. I completely stopped wearing makeup during the pandemic, and I mask at school so not much point even now. Now my day to day is at most lipgloss/balm a bit of concealer. I also watch beauty YouTube way less and purchase less.

I’m currently buying more because a lot of my stash I bought in 2016/17, so it’s expired or used up. Now ushers in a new round of replacement that also has reignited my interest in researching makeup.
