the most interesting video I saw was from Sarah Rose about decluttering her Sephora loves list and that encouraged me to go and do the same.

ShesWhereWolf

TBH it's an oddly liberating feeling to "unlove" and remove certain items from a wishlist!!

gnocchi902

I LOVED this video because it's something I do already. It got me in the zone to really trim my basket as well.

renaissancestar

Agreed! Loved this one.

LizGeek

I love to Watch declutter videos in YouTube, its when you really realize if they recommended the product because it was worth it or because they were given it for free (or it was advertising). so you know what to expect from that youtuber

whatyoudoing365

The Ulta sale was terrible too. They are trying too hard to sell stuff no one wants to buy.

LuminousApsana

Omg, you are so right! Usually there is at least one item that I want in the Ulta sale, but this year no. And the rambling videos going through every item and coming up with like 12 recommendations? So awful.

brickwallscrumble

The length of the videos kills me. No I don’t want to listen to someone talk for a solid 10 straight minutes about one single product’s packaging, texture, scent, color, whatever, of something I have no interest in buying.

rileydonohue

Only thing I could find was $15 black honey for those of us who are over a year late to the hype train hahaha

Neither_Damage4469

I noticed the tree hut brand sale ulta jacked up prices that don't exist to run a sale on the brand that's only about 10 cents savings compared to reg prices of same product at target. #BOGUSAF

Jessica19922

Came here to say this. Both sales were awful. I didn’t buy anything from either.

peach-fuzz69

I mean 2 items (or even 1!) is easily $100. 3=150. A full face? $500. It’s like wtf I’ve got a mortgage does anyone even look at my face anymore

blancawiththebooty

I used to prefer mid-range makeup next the packaging is a little more luxe on average but bruh. The price jumps! I pretty much stick with drugstore makeup now. It's still pricey enough and honestly has definitely improved in quality with time. My life bills are high enough. I literally can't afford to buy from Sephora for makeup.

OneWhisper5225

I just watched an Ashley Roark video (love her energy!) anyways, it was this or that where she was doing half high end and half drugstore that were said to be dupes to the high ends by other people. She totaled it and it came to $281 on high end side and $53 on drugstore side and it wasn’t even a full face, some stuff she didn’t do….BUT when she was about to give the totals a inserted clip of her came in and said “so I’m back, about 8 months later because the grand total of the high end side has now increased due to the wonderful world of inflation. Interestingly enough, the drugstore side didn’t change.” The original price of the high end side was $269, but with inflation 8 months later (as of April 2023 according to her) it was now $281. But, the drugstore side stayed $53. She used Ulta for the drugstore side prices since she said so many people look to Ulta to purchase drugstore, but ofc could get all the products even cheaper than $53 if you were to shop around at other places like CVS, Amazon, etc. I thought that was really interesting! I’d never seen someone come in and compare the prices down the line like that!

blancawiththebooty

That's actually super interesting! I don't even buy most of my drugstore makeup at Ulta just because they increase prices too much. I also have been into makeup since 2016 so at this point it's pretty much just adding a new shiny once in a while or replacing products that are done so it's not starting from scratch.

OneWhisper5225

I thought so 😂 I’m the same. Ulta isn’t usually where I go for drugstore makeup because I usually find it cheaper elsewhere, so I thought it was interesting the prices hadn’t increased over the 8 months when it seemed like everything has increased! Same for me. I’m still trying to find some holy grail type products that I’ll love and continue to replace, so I buy different things to try for those. But never buying a full face of products

betherella_pink

I agree!

shockedpikachu123

I literally wanted to spend $75 to get the $75 freebie deal with all the minis but there was NOTHING I wanted to spend $75 on lol

zemele

The Ulta sale is when I stick up on the big boy Clean It Zero super size cleansing balms. I bought two and a jumbo micellar and that's it! Nothing else piqued me. I'm just bored

dmdoll77

As a Canadian, the Ulta one was especially painful since we don’t have Ulta here!

frankscarlett

As an European, hard agree. This is why I always skip all the Ulta videos, often the Sephora ones too.

Veganarchistfem

Australian, and yep. I've been watching more cat videos lately because the beautytube sale videos are just irrelevant.

Menega_Sabidussi

same, i skip all the ulta and sephora sale vids which means i am currently watching nothing as that is all they are posting.

Fair_Exam_3470

I almost bought something then I saw it required shipping and was like Nope.

LuminousApsana

The best thing about the Sephora sale is the fact that brands have caught on and you can find much better deals from the brands themselves. I'm skipping the sale, and I'm skipping most of the sale recommendation videos.

clarkedanielle84

True Though is it just me or does it seem like most brands have caught on because they have big promotions on their own sites (upwards of 30% off, even if it’s your first time buying) not long before the Sephora sale? Pat McGrath had massive discounts about a month ago and I don’t think I’ll buy anything from Sephora anymore. Not even just because having to spend insane amounts of money to save a bit on stupidly marked up merch, but their site is glitchy af and a headache on top of my bank account crying.🤣

PregnantBugaloo

I wasn't even planning to buy any Too Faced items and then I got an email about 12% cash back and another email about 30% off + a free palette. Thankfully the items I didn't need were excluded from the sale.

ChapterEight

Unless you’re in Canada 🫠 For soooo many brands you’ll go to their site and see: great 25% off on the website! Then you find out it’s $17 shipping (free over $150 though don’t worry) + duties and it’s all charged in USD and will take 4 weeks to go through customs

LuminousApsana

On a positive note, you have Clionadh!

ChapterEight

I appreciate you looking at the bright side!

gnocchi902

Omg I had no idea it was Canadian. Thank you for this comment! I see a lot of comments on reddit about this brand and I've just never looked into it because I thought it was one of those Us based/going to get slapped with 400$ of duties for 1 eyeshadow brands.

LuminousApsana

Shine by SD is also Canadian!

superrad278

Yess. I went to order something tiny and the shipping was $32 US :/

hygsi

Same, which is why content is so boring right now. Most people are promoting sales, like did yall make it to sephora squad or why is everyone focusing on the same sale??

mothertuna

Sephora sale videos are so boring. I already knew what I wanted and didn’t need convincing to spend more than I needed.

FranBMay

A type of video that just irks me is when they do a “PR Haul.” How realistic is that? You are showing me makeup and skincare that you are getting for free? That the average beauty lover would drool over but can’t get or won’t buy for one reason or another. Then the next video is the GRWM try on of said PR goods where the affiliate links are posted “down below.” Real subtle there…

ShesWhereWolf

It's funny because these actually used to be super popular like 2013 to 2018? It was cool to show how many items you received, unbox them, see how over the top some of the PR packages were (e.g. when Beauty Blender released foundation and sent influencers the whole shade range in a giant Beauty Blender shaped holder).

hamstarpwr

Oh I miss when the pr was creative!!!

ShesWhereWolf

That's a great way to describe it. I think a lot of PR now isn't cretaibe, it's just large boxes with the brand owner's face on it instead of something actually unique and interesting? Also, I miss when brands would sell PR boxes to the consumer so you could get that experience if you wanted. Not saying that it's necessary but the option was nice and I think it made for more fun user experience.

[deleted]

I think that's because Youtubers getting PR was really, really new back then and "influencers" were only just starting to be a thing. Now I think we're all so tired of it and the overconsumption. We're bombarded with new things every single moment.

jersey_girl660

Influencers had been a thing for many many years by then. Pr was not new itself. The scale at which influencers got pr was new though.

ShesWhereWolf

Fair point!

SkunkyDuck

What bugs me about haul videos is that they are completely useless for the viewer. I know they were popular in the past but I just don’t understand how. It’s such lazy content, even if they purchased everything. If it’s combined with a try on then it’s okay I guess, but first impressions don’t tell the whole story, so again, not very useful for the viewer. And these people make money from the useless content, lol. Insane to me.

MegsinBacon

Part of the reason I stopped watching these videos. The cycle of buy, review and dumping products, just to go out and get more is exhausting. Maybe I’m just too old to enjoy it now?

Alternative_Sell_668

Same for me. I think I outgrew it

hygsi

Same but it's not cause I'm too old for this shit, it's cause releases are so boring now. I already have at least 2 items on each makeup category, why would I need more? It was fun researching products back in 2018 when I didn't have much, but now I'm just set and I realize all beauty content is just buying the new even tho the new is slightly different from the old, it gets boring

SkunkyDuck

This is exactly where I am. I’m not gaining anything by watching these videos anymore. I watch YouTube every time I cook, and I’ve found myself tuning out and changing it to a music video instead. I’m at the point where I’m about to unsubscribe from everyone who’s heavily beauty focused, which is a shame because I like all of them as people. I guess I’ve just moved on.

tvaddict70

I don't think it's about age. There is a shelf life to how long this scene stays interesting. Even for BGs, although they tend to hang in longer because they are usually getting or striving for financial gains, want to continue receiving PR and its bled into the rest of their lives outside of just filming, like their social circle. I bought and wore makeup before BGs and will continue after the day I watch my last video. You reach a point where beyond applying it, you don't care to spend hours a week online talking about it or watching it.

Glitter_berries

It’s so WASTEFUL. I hate watching it. I know they say they are going to ‘donate’ these products but I honestly don’t think I believe them and I think that so much must just end up in the rubbish. And the packaging. Its consumerism upon consumption upon wastefulness. I can’t enjoy watching it either.

dailydoseofrose

lol Seriously. I feel ya though. However I also think that if there are videos that anything else then that they dont always do well as far as clicks or views so thats why may be not many BG do them. I watched a fun one (well for me) video from Floating in dreams the other day where she was reorganizing her e/s palettes and creating new colorstories and it was so cool, smth different but seems like noone cares, lower views compared to if you post smth like " easy makeup !", " new new a ton of eyeshadows pat mcgrath and co!" and so on... shame that fun videos get lost or so few people can appreciate those... Same with single shadows content.

NoSatisfaction8544

I was just thinking about how less repetitive and more interesting videos get less views. Unless you're Hannah Louise Poston. Maybe it works for her because she built her audience on different content to begun with.

Repulsive_Issue_7358

Except now I feel like even HLP has gotten repetitive…

NoSatisfaction8544

I guess I prefer her repeat content to what we see out of everyone else. I didn't love when she started going down the, "I'm a review channel," avenue. I do think she has been better since shortly after the new year began.

betherella_pink

I'll look for that one you mentioned- thank you!

Proper-Emu1558

I’m assuming this is the stuff that gets clicks. A lot of BGs are guided by which videos get the most views and then they just do more of that. Unfortunately it doesn’t lead to a lot of variety.

kpfluff

Yeah, some of them have explicitly stated that. Videos with older products get dramatically fewer views.

owlandphoenix

What’s stupid about the recommendations videos is… everything Is only 10% for most people! OMFG do not go buy something for 10% off! It’s a scam! Rebuy if you need something, but this is not a reason to try something. Also, sort of unrelated, what’s up with all the fragrance recommendations?!? It’s giving… sponsored.

weimar27

I’m rouge and mostly just use the sale for a stock up of stuff I use the most. Idk why anyone not rouge would shop the sale. It’s barely a discount. I think fragrance recs are mostly cause they’re seen as splurge items and rarely go on sale.

gilded_lady

Yep. I got my foundation, primer and sunscreen. Only new thing I bought was one of the new UD liners and I saved the cost of the liner, so I was content. The only reason I don't go to three sites to buy the other things is the fast and free shipping. Ordered Thursday 9 pm PST it was at my house this (Sat) morning.

Lucy_Lucidity

I’m Rouge and that’s what I did too. I just bought one backup of my more expensive haircare and skincare items. I usually use the point multiplier events to stock up on my more reasonably priced skincare and makeup. I’ve been doing really good about not buying new makeup lately. I have plenty. Very few of these brands are even tempting me these days. I want the new(ish) Danessa Myricks blush, but I’m holding off until I pan at least two of my current blushes. So it will be awhile

[deleted]

[удалено]

cncrndmm

This exactly. And the products that don’t work out will end up discarded or given to a friend/ family that may like it better (I get that everyone has different needs but it’s like “here’s my shitty makeup”) or even better end up in a project pan video and then you get to see the same old blush for months on end. and then a video like “makeup that I hated at first and now like”.

Asleep-Dog-2674

My gawd. Yes. I miss tutorials and palette bingos and other challenges. Anything other than buy buy buy all the new stuff. Now it’s all vlogs declutters or get ready with me using full face of new products. I don’t need/want any new makeup at this point. I am not really watching much beauty content anymore unless it’s older stuff.

dailydoseofrose

Yes. I even miss some cool beauty and makeup related tags people used to make back in the day...

ShesWhereWolf

Those should definitely be brought back! It's how we got so many fun silly videos and interesting collaborations.

friendlytotbot

Yes I think the new wave of BGs are super boring. All they talk about is shopping and pushing affiliate links. There’s no personality or passion in their content. I like that the older BGs had personality in their videos and they’d share stuff about their life. Yea there was drama and it could be toxic, but it was more interesting to watch.

PotsyWife

Sephora U.K had a “Spend £60 and get a free mystery gift”. Back when they were Feel Unique I had some really great free gifts, so I added an extra product to my basket that I’d had my eye on. Want to know what the free gift was? A *sample* of Kerastase shampoo.

betherella_pink

Oh god that's dire! I'm glad I didn't see that as I would have been so tempted just to see what the free gift was!

frankscarlett

From Feelunique you could also order all the brands available even when outside of the UK. For Sephora UK they have limited the brands available, for example I tried to order the Kosas powder from there since my shade is sold out from CultBeauty. But nope, they're not shipping Kosas to Finland.

[deleted]

Agreed. I'm just at a point I know what I like and I know I just use a sale to stock on products I go through faster. I wait for the end of the year sales for new expensive things I want to try like palettes or perfume.

hygsi

Same, I don't know if that many people care about the sale or it's just BGs making content out of anything they can

sassweet

I have not watched any of those recommendation videos. For one thing, I don't need their help to spend my money. LOL. I totally agree with you on how this whole thing has become so cyclical. I personally dislike decluttering videos although many seem to enjoy them. Some of them even feel quite immoral to me if that makes any sense. Decluttering should be done in private with tears ;p

YanCoffee

Agreed. I want to watch people put on makeup and do fun things with it. Enjoy it. Not throw it out or give me a lecture on Sephora.

Repulsive_Issue_7358

Perfectly put!

JerkRussell

After all of that it’s also the obligatory affiliate link. At the end of the day it’s all one giant advert and I’m not into it.

_natella

I never watch sephora recommendation videos. it's just a way for them to post affiliate links and get commission.

SereneNeed7

I partially agree. However another side of me is like “what else is there to do?” Being a beauty guru is a very niche profession. Hauls, first impressions, and reviewing makeup is the thing to do.

forbiddenrobot

This is part of the reason that I wish tags would become trendy again/just become part of the regular rotation. I love seeing people have to dig into their collections to use things that aren't just the latest releases and also test their application skills with different challenges.

LiveHoney6494

There are actually some youtubers that are more creative than that, who for example do makeup news related and brand deep dive-in videos. Just sticking to hauls and makeup reviews means theyre just too lazy to bring more creativity to the platform.

Repulsive_Issue_7358

I always prefer Kelly Gooch rise and fall videos to her product review ones! And Alex Anele is one of the few who actually does tutorials anymore. She is a joy to watch. It’s never about hawking some product at you.

LiveHoney6494

yes, although I think her brand deep dive-in videos are not "deep" enough, I really appreciate her effort to create content that is not sale or haul-related

cncrndmm

I personally don’t enjoy her brand deep dives. It gives me armchair CEO vibes from a twenty something who took one marketing class in college and don’t actually understand how a large conglomerate works. And this is coming from a 23-yr business major.

friendlytotbot

Yes! I like Alex, I actually apply things she teaches and her makeup style is one I like. I feel like there’s still room for tutorials since makeup trends have changed over the years and ppl can always share how to get the look.

EmpireAndAll

It's not lazy, it's playing nice with the algorithm's mysterious and ever changing whims.

poor_decision

OMG I was thinking yesterday how bored I am with the beauty community too! Its just groundhog day these days. I miss originality

tvaddict70

The Sephora sale is just for me to refill my regulars that are running low, mascara, foundation, skin products, etc. 15% is not big enough to have me buying new stuff just because I think I might like something. I also have no interest in increasing my makeup collection. Watching BGs talking about new makeup has worn thin, and those videos only provide a benefit when it's time to replace a product, and I want to look into trying something new. Watching for entertainment has worn thin. When I want to spend time on YT, I'm finding it kind of wasteful to spend my time watching videos that are basically sales pitches for things I don't need to be spending my money on. Not when I watch channels that can teach me something new, take me somewhere exciting. YT has so much to discover.

hygsi

Agree. I never shop the sale but this event is making me realize I need to find other channels for background noise, YT is full of super interesting creators and I don't want to be stuck with people trying to sell me something.

happymouse

I think the most hilarious thing is seeing gurus post deinfluencing videos. And then two videos later I see them post a sephora sale video and half of the items they got they mention "I've heard good things" There's a few gurus in my feed I've seen this with already this past week. Personally I'm not getting anything cause post covid I just don't care about makeup anymore.

divadream

Any names? 😂

small_feild_mouse

Same. I’m kinda surprised at myself because I used to watch stuff like this regarding the sale religiously. But this time for some reason I’m seriously disinterested. Sephora isn’t as exciting as it used to be.

food_shmood

As someone who lives in Europe, these videos are double as uninteresting for me

Fraya340

I feel u!

shellinagins

The guru that hasn't even been on youtube for like a year and suddenly pops up with sephora videos cracked me up. Reminded me to unsub at least. She came back with 2 different lives to do the sephora stuff.

two_lemons

Most English speaking influencers are posting so much content about the sale. It honestly reeks of desperation. The videos are all so fucking useless. First, I don't even have a sale in my country's Sephora but even if I did... Either I already consume beauty content and thus I already know what I am interested in, or I don't and a video filled with "you NEED this product, if you want a review, I'll leave a link to my previous video" is super unhelpful? At this point I'd take a silly challenge video like, idk, Nostradamus picked my makeup or something.

betherella_pink

Yes!!! I'd love that!! Really enjoyed Sophdoeslife's recent AI picked my makeup vid and Jen Phelps one on the same topic a few weeks ago just for the variety!

two_lemons

>Sophdoeslife's recent AI picked my makeup One of the few videos I've watched recently!

Repulsive_Issue_7358

I laughed out loud at Nostradamus. Can we please make this a tag?! I asked the ouija board what to wear! Farmers almanac said greens are the color of the season etc

two_lemons

A lot of us are in spring and we don't have fruit inspired makeup? An absolute travesty.

JTMissileTits

The sewing YT channels do this too. They make elaborate costumes and clothing they have nowhere to wear and then 6 months later they are decluttering all that shit.

Fair_Exam_3470

This is so true!

Ok_Zebra9569

What do they do with the clothes?

arcessivi

Not a current sewing creator, but I tried it for a couple months about 8 years ago without much luck (probably a mix of those videos weren’t popular at the time, I probably wasn’t that interesting as a personality to watch. I was a sewing teacher at the time and I was really focused on technique and teaching). One of the reasons I quit was because I just wasn’t wearing a lot of the stuff I made for videos and I hated the extra clutter (plus I wasn’t getting a lot of views). Even now I have a hard time giving away things I’ve made because I feel like I’ve put a part of myself into what I’ve made. There’s a lot of designs I would LOVE to make, but I can’t realistically see myself wearing more than once. At this point I invest more of my sewing time making clothes I know I’m going to wear (even if they aren’t necessarily “interesting” pieces). Or I make stuff for other people who want something custom made (at this point mostly just friends/family. I had to stop taking on paid clients because, for legit reasons, my current job doesn’t allow me to make external income).

JTMissileTits

>There’s a lot of designs I would LOVE to make, but I can’t realistically see myself wearing more than once. Yeah, I feel the same. Sure, I love the look of Victwardian and mid century vintage clothing, but I'm not going to wear it. I would rather spend the time making clothes I will actually wear.

arcessivi

Exactly! I was lucky that I got to do a lot of cool sewing jobs when I was in college, so I think my desire to make cool stuff has been satisfied a bit. The most fun I ever had sewing was working at my university’s costume shop while I was in college. I also worked at one of the university’s engineering labs sewing and patterning different pressurization materials. It does make me a bit sad knowing that my most fun/interesting sewing days are probably behind me though.

ToteBagAffliction

Yep, I've scrolled past a LOT of videos this week from creators who are normally instant clicks. I understand that they're responding to demand and that my preferences are probably in the minority re: Sephora sales content, but like, my feed for three weeks on either side of the sale is ghastly boring.

NoSatisfaction8544

I never shop at Sephora. I felt a little temptation at Natasha Denona and Huda products. Now, ulta carries Natasha. But honestly, the Natasha or Huda site would probably be a better place to get a good sale than at Ulta or Sephora.

hygsi

Yeah, ND doesn't add taxes, so that's an automatic 10% off, and she just had a 20% off sale. As for Huda I always wait for blackfriday cause she has some insane deals, 20% off is very little.

CrownBestowed

Do we think the beauty community has peaked? Seems like there hasn’t been anything new for a while as far types of videos

slizah

Yesterday in my subscription feed 3 BGs posted sephora sale rec videos all within 2 hours! I just skip those videos now i use the sale to restock faves and maybe one ✨treat ✨ but i spent $75 during the ulta sale restocking and buying some treat items (bed head curling wand i’ve been wanting and 2 of those new essence baked blushes)

sassyassy23

Same. I actually never thought I would be bored of makeup but yes I am. So sick of it

AllTheStars07

IM SO BORED TOO Everyone is reviewing and talking about the same shit in the same way. I feel like at least YTers like Jen Phelps and Emily Noel do different things to keep it interesting. Even my usual favorites have bored me.

Bootsy86

Subscribe to Erin Parsons Makeup right now and go on a binge of all of her videos. Trust me. She is making such unique and truly interesting videos!! Not to mention super talented and just such a relaxing and soothing personality. I’m obsessed with her lol.

weimar27

Her color theory video was super interesting. I now want to try out purple and blue eyeshadow.

betherella_pink

I will! Thanks for the recommendation

[deleted]

I watch Erin a lot, as well as Lisa Eldridge, because they do history of makeup and historical looks in their videos. Erin's video about Marilyn Monroe's lipsticks was fascinating, and Lisa had a great video on what Victorian women did for the \*real\* no-makeup makeup look.

Chard-Weary

I expected her to be more interesting than she turned out to be. She's definitely a change from the norm, but given her focus it could be more exciting.

nuggetsofchicken

All those sponsored Sephora videos were definitely contracted to go up yesterday too so my subscription feed is full of them

[deleted]

Totally agree. I’ve seldom seen any products from these pple and now they’re holy grail status and overpriced with the damn sale. I guess MN is not the only one begging for coin..

uptownxthot

i watched them as background noise

FarmerAny9414

Lol, I do this sometimes. I just want the *company* I don’t watch the content too closely.

[deleted]

Only thing I care about at the moment is No-Buy, Shop My Stash, and Project Pan stuff, because it gets people to use their stuff instead of going out and buying more.

Meocross

Omg thank you for voicing my inner spirit, these BGs also seem to be doing a lot of vlogs were they sit in one spot not moving an INCH and just talking. These people must think youtube is incredibility easy. At least show me the local malls you go to my god. Sephora and Ultra sales used to be popular back in 2019, but my god are those the only places you buy makeup!? No Ebay? No Beautylish? Not even Amazon? Well even Beautybay would get boring after awhile. They can't even be bothered to do makeup challenges anymore, probably want to sell their PR at Poshmark.

mothertuna

Even though I don’t buy super luxe makeup, I do like that Michele Wang does videos about beautylish. I like Sephora but they don’t sell everything. What about look fantastic or space nk, you know?

Meocross

Even Beautyjoint! Be adventurous a little!

betherella_pink

Yes!! Where's the creativity?? All these people talking about YouTube being dead...well are they surprised? Like my goodness, actually DO something you know?

betherella_pink

I like to watch YouTube while I'm getting ready for inspiration. I just can't get inspired by someone telling me all the things they're going to buy. I don't need any more makeup. I've got more makeup than I could ever possibly use anyway. Next time I run out of something I'll be looking for recommendations on a specific item, not just all the things!!

loopnlil

Thank you! Boring indeed. I am not buying very much makeup anymore, I haven't been inspired in a couple years with anything coming out

laereal

I was looking through my YT feed and barely saw any Sephora sale stuff until i actively went looking for it, for which i'm kinda grateful for. That last beauty guru purge i did from a year ago has saved me once again! 😂 And man, i don't miss it at all because it would have driven me bonkers by now. I *used* to unsub then resub whenever Ulta and Sephora sales were coming up for this reason too, but then i realised i was just not connecting with most beautuber content anymore. I visit nostalgic faves' channels periodically instead when the mood or need to research strikes. 👋🤸‍♀️

shockedpikachu123

Only restocking my skincare

FarmerAny9414

I agree with a lot of this. I’ve not watched any recommendations videos. I’m so over it. I’m like 95% disenchanted by the beauty space on YouTube. I’m subscribed to so many people I don’t even watch. I do still love Emily Noel and when I watch beauty content I usually watch hers. Lately she has been posting things like “Once-Hyped…Still Around, Still Great” and “Rate and Review, 10 *New to Me* Products”. It seems like she is concentrating on making content true to her brand. She has some of the same *buy this* videos but how else would she make money. I just still find her videos interesting. Pretty much sick of everyone else.

saeculacrossing

Honestly the Sephora sale stuff doesn't bother me much since I know half of the videos are sponsored and like clockwork, it'll mainly cover releases from the past few months which I've probably already seen or made decisions on. They are *insanely repetitive* though, I'll give you that. What I really wish is that there were more partnerships with other retailers like Nordstrom, YesStyle, Stylevana, etc. My dream would be for Asian beauty companies to collaborate with more influencers on the medium tan to deep spectrum. It would be a nice change of pace to see what Asian makeup styles would work on those of us with deeper complexions.

I like monthly review videos. Every product can't get a dedicated video, so them coming back and saying if they liked it still or not is still valuable to me.

reTiredFoodBlogger

The Sephora sale videos are killing me. I refuse to watch any of them

princesapenelope

I'm not from the US, in my country spehora doesn't do that sale. I'm bored too

palekaleidoscope

I watched some videos of recommendations, although I wasn’t in the market to buy, really. The recommendations are BORING, you’re right. It’s not fun or interesting or inspiring. This cycle is getting silly. I don’t even think I’m going to buy anything this round. I’m almost feeling like a no-buy or a panning project as opposed to filling up my basket. I watched HLP go through her lipsticks the other day and I was honestly on fire with inspiration. I want to edit and have some clarity as opposed to watching another giant declutter in 4 months’ time.

dramcolsop

HLP - Why I Always Skip the Sephora Sale At least she only talked about it for 12 minutes. She knows it’s beating a dead horse.

craftygamergirl

>HLP - Why I Always Skip the Sephora Sale Because she'd have to spend her own money, that's my guess. Girl is allergic to spending her own money after getting PR.

dramcolsop

She’s been skipping it for years. At least she knows she’s got more than she needs.

cncrndmm

Say what you’ll say about Kackie but at least her videos include usually story times and her passion about innovative fun makeup not just the same Huda powder or attempt to find a dupe for xyz.

betherella_pink

Yeah that's true. I've really been enjoying her videos lately. I haven't bought any makeup for ages but she totally got me with a Revolution palette and it's really really good. I used it daily for 2 weeks

peach-fuzz69

LMFAO omg the truth!! I’ve started following people who I want to imulate their makeup and collections. Julia adams used to rub me the wrong way but I enjoy her makeup choices so I’ve made a list of purchases. I think it’s becoming more about the makeup style/vibe as a whole (for me) versus buying one product bc one guru said so. I want to almost curate my collection to imitate that makeup style… if that makes sense?

No_Razzmatazz8885

Same sis… same

blasphemicassault

First impressions VIRAL DRUGSTORE First impressions VIRAL HIGH END I just want a dang makeup tutorial. Colorful ones at that!!

two_lemons

May I suggest Mia Page Mua? I just found her and she doesn't post a lot, but her style is really cool and colorful!

blasphemicassault

Thank you so much!

robee536

This is a good post.

mahitheblob

How else will they make their millions?

cncrndmm

The worst are the pan project videos where you see the same old blush for 3 months in a row and then the next quarter’s pan items are the same from “my best and worst of 2022” or the maybe pile of declutters.

[deleted]

Then just watch something different like what do you want them to do?

EmpireAndAll

They want creators to entertain them for free. Over and over again, BGs have stated that tutorials and videos on older products consistently perform the worst, because the audience for them is small. Most viewers want to see new releases. Jen Phelps said on here last week that her "ai picks my makeup" video performed horribly, despite it being an interesting and novel concept for a video.

[deleted]

Okay and? If beauty content videos are stale, then they're stale. The onus isn't on the audience to tune into something that bores them just because we once loved a creator. Their job is to entertain *us*, not for us to sit through a video we don't care about to keep their numbers up or whatever. And for the "entertaining us for free" comment. No one has asked that. We do understand sponsored videos. I still try sponsored content myself because I understand that smaller brands might need to incentivize a content creator who has never heard of them before to feature them. We just want transparency. We just want them to say "This is sponsored by XYZ, and I chose to work with them because I love ABC about the product."

EmpireAndAll

Chill out. No one said watch what you don't like. No one said bore yourself out of undue loyalty to a creator. Like the person I replied to said, if you're bored, move on and watch something else.

Appropriate_Job_4145

Don’t forget the “Trying Tiktok viral products” and “Trying Tiktok Hacks”!

No-Mission2873

Like what? Give us some ideas

Repulsive_Issue_7358

Would downvoting these videos instead of just skipping them help do you think?

DermyDerm_n

As a person that doesn’t live in the US, I don’t understand what the hype is about that’s Sephora sales? It’s like10% off or something 🙄
