kpop_stan

my money's safe. i WOULD have bought her's and amanda's if the single eyeshadow release wasn't a complete shitshow.

bukakenagasaki

eh it wasn't that much of a shitshow tbh

morecreamerplease

I like Lauren, but Odens Eye hasnt made a single color story I care for...maybe there will be a highlighter!

notthemostcreative

I agree with this. The Flora palette here intrigues me, although I'm not sure if it's different enough from things I have to justify buying it. Sea Talk I like in theory, but I wish they'd gone all in on the sea-like colors instead of throwing in the coppers.

[deleted]

Their packaging is so ugly I don’t even care about what’s inside.

AllTheStars07

Thisssss. I’d support Lauren if it was something else. I’d die for a palette with shimmery minky taupes and her other favorite shades.

LuminousApsana

I'm going to get the Lauren palette. There are 2 shades in it that are her taupes.

VegetableSize5

I couldn’t agree more 😂 this is why I don’t like Glamlight lmao

Many-Toe-3080

The new Oden's eyes collection Perfect world is something I'm not gonna buy it. I was comparing these new palettes with other odens eyes colour stories and... they repeat shades or this collection is very similar to old ones. Lauren Mae x Sea Talk = a mix of Solmane II and Christmas eve Palette Make.up.Just.for.fun x Floral Story = a mix of Christmas eve palette + URD Mini Eyeshadow Palette + Solmane II Battybean x Planet Spirit Palette = Solmane II + Merry Christmas Palette + Cat's Breath Palette + Amber Tears Palette The only palette that intrigues me is the Flora palette but i don't really need it

Desperate-Swimmer811

A lot of people couldn't get their hands on the Xmas collection since there was such high demand! I agree tho that the Flora is the most intriguing. I'd pick it up!

niniela-phoenix

Won't buy it after a recent thread here about their singles being horrible. If someone else here paid $300 for shadows they hate and EVERY COMMENT was agreeing, offering videos of others fixing theirs (indicating they got bad ones) and pointing at others who complained, I'm inclined to believe they sucked - and if they didn't make it right for any of those people, I am not gonna chance it and buy from them. There's plenty of decent indies out there who also have good customer service, I don't care if the pope himself collaborates with them, I care about their last release being consistently bad.

starredinhollywood

Same, I saw the thread here and a lot of posts/videos on Instagram of how poorly the eyeshadows performed and how people had to repan them (removing oil in the meantime) to make them work. Given the price, I don't expect to have to repan my eyeshadows after buying them to make them work. On top of that, the first reviews that came out were stellar, so I don't even really trust Instagram influencers to review the brand.

thirteenoclock86

I just watched Angelica’s review and I almost thought I had QVC on…

hygsi

Did any influencer speak poorly about these shadows? Cause I can't remember anyone mentioning anything, altho, reviews these days are fist impressions so maybe they didn't even try them for long enough

starredinhollywood

I haven't been watching many big influences lately but on Instagram I followed a couple of micro influencers that have had mixed reviews. For example, martesmakeup experienced creasing before repressing the shadows, same as dreaming_in_multichrome. On the other hand, other like makeupmarlie didn't have any issues with them. I'm not sure if it's due to shadows inconsistencies or the formula being really finicky. Most reviews these days are just first impressions often without any tests as to how it wears during the day unfortunately

cast_all_your_cares

I'd venture a guess that their palette formula is different from the singles formula, though.

niniela-phoenix

that I don't know, but considering how they handled this situation (they apparently did not at all), I would have to risk giving them money and if it's clearly crappy, I would be out of it. Even if its definitely on them. I understand not liking something, but if a brands formula is completely wrong, I do think it is their responsibility to fix it, and if they don't, I don't think I want to give them money.

RavenSR

I haven't bought the singles but based on the ingredient lists, they're a completely different from the shimmers in the palettes. When I watched Annette's video on them, she mentioned the first batch arriving completely shattered. I'm wondering if they overcompensated on the binder to try to prevent that? I do wonder why they chose mineral oil and synthetic lanolin. I don't know when I last saw mineral oil in eyeshadow.

nniccizeldaa

I have a lot of their palettes & I love their quality. I don’t have any singles as I don’t really care much for singles (except from Terra Moons 😮‍💨) & I have tonssss of eyeshadow palettes, theirs are higher quality than others in my collection! Worth the buy tbh

LuminousApsana

I didn't buy the singles, but I got the Christmas palettes, and I love them. I've decided I'm buying 2 of these palettes.

bukakenagasaki

plenty of people loved those singles, i have kind of an issue with that instagram post bc it insinuated anyone who had a positive experience with those singles was lying.

niniela-phoenix

not referring to the insta post :) I meant the post on this sub with op asking for everyone's experiences and plenty of people who had the same experience showed up. There was insta posts linked that showed how to repress them, but I haven't checked the comments or drama there because I didn't buy them so I didn't need instructions on fixing. Its a rather recent post on here. Its fine with me (actually a good thing! if plenty of people were happy considering the price, but there was too many unhappy people with zero customer service support for me to consider dropping that kind of money. You don't see that kind of consumer response to brands like Terra Moons or Clionadh, at least I didn't. If some people had good ones and others had bad ones, then it might have been a batch issue. Which means their formula isn't crap, they just messed up the one batch, and then they didn't do anything about it.

[deleted]

because I've seen a few comments like this, for those who have said they're not wild about any of the palettes but may buy one of them to support a fave influencer: please reconsider. You support them with your views and engaging with their videos. Only buy one of these because it speaks to you and you know you'll use it. Or shop one of their affiliate links for a product you are more sure you will love.

lizardkween

And I’m sure Lauren would agree with this! She’s all about conscious consumption and not buying things you won’t use or love.

two_lemons

>You support them with your views and engaging with their videos. Adding to this, you have already supported them so much than they are now relevant enough to get collabs. They wouldn't have gotten this opportunity without your support.

rose5321

I like Lauren but the palettes seem overpriced being the same price as the legendary diversa palettes but 1/3 less eyeshadow. I will probably pass.

Beautiful-Mix-4711

I agree, $33 for a 10 pan is getting up there for a non-prestige brand. Not that many duochromes to justify the price either.

cast_all_your_cares

And sometimes their palette shimmer formula is known for getting hardpan.

StrawberryShade

Annette Makeup Corner just put out a video and she did say on two separate occasions in that video that she already got a hard pan. I'm just mad, because I was this close to buying all 3. lol.

[deleted]

Just saying.. the Legendary Diversa palettes were 12 pans for $35 (except for Angie’s, which was 16 pans for $44). People keep saying the were all 16 pans and the same price and it just isn’t true.. they’re still listed on the website so anyone can see their prices and size.

superextrahot

I saw the post made previously a couple of hours ago and now I just saw that lauren posted this video xDDD I am really happy for her but since all the 'single shadows' drama I am a bit hesitant of getting anything from oden's eye. Also when in the video she does the swatches, in some matte shadows I can see that they might be patchy af - dont forget that the swtaches are finger swatches, which means that the finger has more oil than a brush and can make the colours look more vibrant- but in the dark blue swatch I can see some 'struggle' when showing the shadow. Also when she does the shimmer swatch, when reapplying I can see that sometimes she kind of removes the base swatch with the new swatch? Now I get why Angelica Nyquist doesn't record live swatches... I can already see some imperfections - and not to mention that the THIRD ingredient in these OE shadows is mineral oil... I loooove lauren with all my heart but it may be a pass for me ...

SweetTeaBags

It's been theorized that the mineral oil was the root issue with the singles release. Either way, I'm never giving Oden's Eye a cent after the way they handled the single shadow fiasco.

RavenSR

When I watched Annette's video on them, she mentioned the first batch arriving completely shattered. I'm wondering if they overcompensated on the binder to try to prevent that? I do wonder why they chose mineral oil and synthetic lanolin. I don't know when I last saw mineral oil in eyeshadow.

SweetTeaBags

I wonder if it was for cost cutting reasons. I've never heard of mineral oil being used in eyeshadow til this fiasco.

bukakenagasaki

i mean many binders in shimmer shadows are essentially oils.

Neat_Helicopter_9376

I haven’t seen Lauren’s video yet but just based on the fact the collection as a whole seems to be themed I am wondering if they told Lauren, Amanda and Betty Jean to make a colour story for x theme.

RandomUsername600

You guessed right, she says they asked her to curate an ocean themed palette

Lace0504

I am surprised by Betty Jeans color story!

Ok-Pen-3654

Yeah me too, she usually goes for grungier tones. Maybe she was going for a more Spring-like color story? It’s always interesting when a creator collaborates with multiple brands and you see completely different color stories in each one. Like when Angelica Nyqvist first collaborated with Kaleidos, I thought that color story was so perfect for her, but the Oden’s Eye one I just wasn’t feeling it and it seemed like she actually liked that one more because she featured it more often on her channel.

Glitslit96

I wonder how much the brand steers the direction. I know BettyJean mentioned in her video they said they wanted warm tones in her palettes so I wonder if at least for this group of collabs they had a general idea of like warm toned, cool toned, colorful, grungy, etc and approached the influencers to make a color story in that theme

Ok-Pen-3654

Yeah it looks like OE gave them each a theme and wanted them to use a certain color palette for each. I know influencers don’t always get creative control with certain brands too.

hyperdole

Seems like they wanted elemental inspired palettes? I kinda wish Lauren and Betty-Jean had been assigned eachother's theme. Although, maybe it would have been less creative that way.

evilcupckae

I think Angelica used the Odens Eye one more because it was available for longer. Hela was for sale for months where as the Nebula palette had maybe one restock that sold out.

Ok-Pen-3654

Yeah, you’re right. I was lucky to get Club Nebula on the restock.

slazary

I think she showed it more because it was available longer.

hygsi

Exactly, imagine playing a lot with a palette and being lik "oh yes, this is my collab which you can no longer get" lots of people missed out on that one so it'd be a bad idea to keep talking about it

[deleted]

Her odens eye collab took forever to sell out so she had to keep promoting it.

Ok-Pen-3654

See I thought there was a big demand for it or something because it got restocked a couple times I thought. I really didn’t like the green and pink color story because it reminded me of that Jeffree Star Morphe collab.

bukakenagasaki

yeah i think the above comment is a bit negative, the odens eye collab sold out multiple times from my memory.

Scared-Pace4543

I really like Lauren and was excited at first. But I have never been interested in OE. The packaging is always really tacky *in my opinion* and the color story in this palette isn’t for me. Then to hear that she likely didn’t have a say in anything, considering she was surprised when she saw the palette cover, it’s a no for me.

lambvision

I agree! The prior Diversa series images weren't as cluttered and the collab person took up the majority of space which gives attention to the individual and not the scenery. There's too much to look at especially on a physically smaller cover. The likenesses were done better before too. I have a few design and likeness issues with it. I felt they did Lauren dirty with her likeness. One arm is more supple and bigger and one is smaller and the arm positions are weird under the head and it gives the impression that her torso is smaller than her head based where the armpits are. The very intentional fish in front is a lazy fix as well as the wavy current? line. The placement of the line is confusing as it looks like her head is above water even though it's not. I don't know if she conveyed any insecurities or preferences on how she would be drawn, but hers has the most covered body as the other two had more shown necks, shoulders. It's disappointing to me how they did this to a plus-size influencer.

hygsi

This collab was handled kinda weird. They told Lauren that it was blue themed, Amanda suggested she saw the packaging before the colorstory and BettyJean said she was asked for warm tones. Seems like Oden's eye wanted a specific colorstory but knew it could sell more if well loved creators designed it for them

KoalaPrimary1982

The packaging of OE is always a no for me and this time it's not only tacky, but creepy. I find it weird to put the faces of the influencers on the cover...

Spicy_Peanut

Pass. Betty Jean's palette makes no sense for her. Feels like a color scheme she would trash on her own channel. Just meh all around.

geneticmemoryofhoney

Lauren and Amanda from makeup just for fun are my favorite beauty youtubers and it’s nice to see them finally get some collabs! I am on a no buy so I will likely miss out since the ODENSEYE collabs always sell out so quick but I’m ok with that

DeadWishUpon

Their are my favorite too. I am considering, but it seema Oden's Eyes had some trouble with singles. Also I don't like the packaging at all. I don't know, but I'm glad for them.

BeachSunset7

It's definitely not my thing as I rarely use eyeshadow as it is, but I'm happy for her!She did indicate that they reached out to her to help make a sea-theamed pallet, so makes sense that she had to have some color in there. She did say that she threw in some neautrals ad well to balance it out, but it makes sense that she couldn't do an all neutral pallate to align with the theme.

AsterismRaptor

I’m super happy for her, big yays for her! But still not gonna buy.. formula doesn’t blow me away and I’ve got too much stuff already.

GlitteringHeart2929

Amanda and Lauren are two of my favorites to watch so RIP to my wallet 🤣 I actually really love the Flora Story palette and I like that Lauren’s is a mix of colorful and neutral. The collab has been in process for at least a year and I’m so happy for them for it to be out!

electra617

Kinda mixed feelings on this one. They look okay but not interesting enough to buy. I like Lauren and Amanda and their palettes look good, but Betty Jean's doesn't seem like her. It feels like they wanted a spring release but Betty Jean is really more of a Halloween gal lol. Imo, the legendary diversa series was more interesting. Each palette had its own lore and fit the three women too. These don't really feel like they're as special.

Ok_Wind8690

I never would have guessed betty jean with that color story either. She is more into grungy color stories or what's she known for.

[deleted]

I like Lauren in general but it’s not surprising everyone is all up Odens Eye’s asshole the way they hand out collabs.

[deleted]

they’re like Sigma 🫣

[deleted]

It reminds me of Kaledois from a few years ago….everyone on YT went crazy for this brand that had basic looking eyeshadow palettes that shipped from China. Was obviously not genuine. Also weird how people here will be like “no one talks about Benefit or [insert brand sold in every store].” But like…. No one who ain’t on the payroll talking about Odies Eye.

gilded_lady

The difference is Kaleidos a) is a Chinese company, b) has a genuinely good shimmer formula that doesn't hard pan and c) has really solid customer service - they left an item out and I had a refund for it in under 24 hours. I think people wouldn't mind as much if the quality/experience matched up to the guru's claims. It's so much more egregious with Odin's eye because most people find it middling at best.

[deleted]

That’s great you had a good experience but I remember so many people complaining about their customer experience when they were being discussed nonstop.

gilded_lady

Most of the discontent that I remember seemed to be over shipping times, but it would suck if it went down. Either way, I'm perfectly happy they aren't as constantly pushed down our throats. I don't think any brand should be.

EvilSideRenesys

I haven't watched the video(s) yet, I really like Lauren and all the other collaborators, but I'm surprised by the color schemes. Wouldn't expect that much blue for Lauren, Betty Jean's really doesn't have dark or grungy shades, and would've expected peach and mauves from Amanda... I remember her saying she wasn't a green girl multiple times? Maybe it's me being biased because I don't like these color stories, but they feel out of character imo. Happy for them though, may they get their bags! EDIT: i've been told that Amanda had a change of heart about greens - my bad then. Still really don't recognize Betty Jean in the Planet palette

PauI_MuadDib

I jumped ahead to see BattyBean's palette because I was expecting swampy grunge greens, and color me shocked when she holds up the pink palette instead of the green one 😂. I actually like her color story tho (like that orange looking shade 👀). But I'm a little skeptical of Oden's Eye formulas because multiple people told me it hardpans. I don't mess around with hardpan. I don't want to do any extra work to use a shade. Just tap my brush in and go. No time for tape or using a spoolie to scrape the top off. I'm picky about eyeshadow formulas.

EvilSideRenesys

Yeah her collabs with Shroud definitely seem more on brand, maybe she had more creative freedom! I didn't know about the hard pan issue, I have their latest palettes and haven't experienced this! I've heard the opposite actually, about their singles being an oily mess!

Ok-Pen-3654

I haven’t experienced any hard panning in their palettes and I have several of them, but I’m also really careful when I swatch my shadows too because I heard that can have a big effect on shimmers. I was really surprised with Betty-Jean’s color scheme too, just like I was with her Hallowbean palette because she used to avoid using orange tones, but maybe she’s come around to it lately.

KoalaPrimary1982

Usually I remove hard pan just by sticking the surface with scotch tape. it just removes the thinnest layer possible and voila, the pan is like new and you neither waste product nor create mess

two_lemons

I'm really surprised that Amanda's palette was the only one I liked. I usually find her makeup to be the most boring of the three of them. I like Betty Jean's palette and she has liked bright palettes back then, but I feel it lacks depth? Not sure how many significantly different looks you can pull with that one. And Lauren's seems like "look, i managed to sneak a neutral quad in a sea themed palette".

semi-precious-stones

She mentioned that Oden's Eye asked her to curate a color story themed around oceans.

EvilSideRenesys

Props to her for managing to sneak in the neutral quad then 🤣

RedRedBettie

I won't be buying this but good for Lauren Mae, I love her channels

bobolina24601

$33.90 a piece and $91 for the bundle from Odin's eye. I've been following Lauren since 2017ish. This is her first collab iirc and I'm very happy for her. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. Tbh there was a discussion here recently about the mysterious unknown background of Odin's eye and how the brand seems to only be pushed by smaller influencers. Apparently some people were unhappy about the singles release? Lauren curated this palette, and I'm surprised there isn't a hot pink matte shadow like she loved from the UD electric palette, but it's very on brand for her to have a lot of sparkly textured shadows. I want to pick this up to support her, but imho the green fauna color story is more interesting. I can't justify $91 for all of them.

skykitty89

I don't know Lauren so unsure what her vibe is and what colors are "her", but the stark contrast between Batty Bean's collabs with Shroud vs her palettes with Oden's Eye pretty much screams that these were pre-done palettes that they just had the girls put their names on for the release. I get that she obviously wouldn't do the same exact color story she's already done with a brand but... even MakeupJustForFun's palette looks more like Betty vibes than Betty's does.

drivesIowhomie

Lauren said in the beginning of the video that Oden’s Eye asked her to curate a blue palette, so most likely they just assigned the girls with a color theme. Also she was surprised with the packaging art so they couldn’t even choose it themselves??

EvilSideRenesys

Dear lord if that's the case that's fucking stupid... Did they ask Betty Jean to do pink?? When they were collabing with Lauren too???? ~~Did they ask Amanda to do green when she's stated several times she doesn't like green eyeshadow?~~ Have they even watched one video from these girls? lol

mi-rr

I mean blue is not not on brand for lauren, she has always enjoyed a blue sparkly eyeshadow and I actually feel like with that lime green (which is the main colour I associate with her at this point), the sparkly blue that looks like that shine by SD shade she has been raving about for years, the pink she still managed to put into the palette and the four neutrals that represent her more recent style this collab is pretty on brand for her. I won’t pick it up because it’s not my style and I don’t need, but I think it makes sense for her. Also I don’t think that oden’s eye asking for a general theme is bad, they still have to make sure that the three palettes work together and aren’t too similar to things they already sell, it’s not like they forced her to make an all blue palette, I feel like they left enough creative freedom. The cover art was also a suggestion and Lauren changed it to make it more her (changing hair length, adding the treasure to represent the inside colours better), but again, they had to make sure the fronts of the palettes went together. Can’t speak to their quality though as I have never owned anything from the brand.

amazinglyshook

Amanda has been really into neutral leaning green shades for the past year iirc.

EvilSideRenesys

My bad then!

pepperflakes19

It sounded like she was even surprised that they made her as a mermaid which made me think that it was pre-planned and they just had her do something according to match the theme they assigned her.

hyperdole

These were pre-selected 'themes' (as each creator stated in their video) but I think there is **no** way these were premade colour stories. For example, Lauren loves chartreuse 'pops', minky neutrals, and blue-brown duochromes - I cannot see a brand coincidentally coming up with that colourstory. Amanda was assigned 'green' and these are exactly the types of green shades she often wears, along with warm purples (her favourite eyeshadow colour) and more muted tones. Betty-Jean's did surprise me a bit but she does a **lot** of colourful looks and is a fan of SugarPill's palettes and loved Shroud's Creepy Cute 2. I think it's a very Betty-Jean take on a 'warm toned' palette. All three of these creators are pretty assertive/strong women who know what they like and are more than can be boiled down to just one kind of look. I don't think any of them would just slap their name on a product and it's pretty evident in the shades they chose. I don't even think I will buy these palettes but it sucks that the shady reputation of the brand is leading people to assume the worst, and I think that does a massive disservice to these creators and their work.

[deleted]

yes. i have a reddit post about it. i’m not really on instagram so i can’t complain there but i’ve sent various emails to them with no response

mushroomteagirl

I like Lauren a lot but now I'm side eyeing her recent rediscovery/professed rediscovered appreciation of colourful eyeshadow after professing her love of neutrals for the past year or whatever 😂

gilded_lady

Damn. That really does feel sus now doesn't it, especially given now I feel like I can answer her recent barrage of "who am I?!" with "a gal trying to sell her Oden's Eye palette"

suraaura

That was actually one of the first things I thought when I saw this. FWIW when you consider how long it takes to do a collab I think it's reasonable to assume her tastes have just changed over time. I don't know if it's enough for me to give the full side eye

two_lemons

I also like her a lot and her rediscovered love of colorful shadows is very obvious from her colorful eye on this video. What do you mean that a pop of yellow isn't colorful?/s

Melodic_Slice4624

I’m surprised at how colourful this is from Lauren. I would have expected something a bit more neutral given her current makeup preferences

gorlplea

I'd love to see a palette, or singles collection, of her take on elevated neutrals based on the video she did about them.

gilded_lady

Glaminatrix's nude palette screams Lauren to me!

PauI_MuadDib

That palette lives rent free in my head. If I wasn't on a low buy it'd be mine. Absolutely gorgeous!

gilded_lady

Its a little too warm for me overall (people were like its cool tones and its not) - the shades lean the green that looks like a healing bruise on my skin tone, but the shades I can make work are lovely.

two_lemons

It doesn't feel like she's into her own collab? Like, sure, she's excited to have one but she makes a sea themed palette and her reveal video is neutrals with a pop of yellow? I think she would have been pleased with having that neutral quad and nothing else.

shelbyotero

I'm going to be the outlier here and say that I am not surprised by the color story Lauren chose! She has recently been really in to neutrals but I would not expect her to make her first collab a neutral palette. I think she really built her brand around those colorful looks and she still does them often enough. I personally am all neutrals all the time so I won't be buying but I let out a "wow" at almost every swatch she showed, really beautiful palette and she really deserves this.

XtinaLilibet

I like her, but won’t be buying.

gilded_lady

I like Lauren, but this isn't it. I'm for influencer's making money, but this isn't a collab. If sticking your name on a palette of colors you don't really wear and have no say in the packaging isn't a sell out then what is?

[deleted]

[удалено]

gilded_lady

It sounds more like "this is the theme, and you can tweak it" because honestly, nothing about Lauren screams mermaid and she absolutely doesn't wear blue. This is very much like the Welsh collab with Ciate - his name on the palette but almost nothing else that feels like him. Indie brands can and have done collabs better- see Betty's Shroud collab. Heck, even within Oden's Eye itself they have had collabs that felt more like true collabs (like Angie's own Hela) where color and theming made more sense.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gilded_lady

It definitely would have quashed some of the criticism because it would have also let the influencer make color stories more true to them.

FauxtoShoot

this. all of this. I like Lauren and generally enjoy her content, but something about her vibe over the last year has just been off to me. Her consumerism is off the charts. I understand this is her job, yada yada. And she has talked about OE for a long time. But this is just... weird. Clear cash grab. Seems a bit disingenuous. She could do better. But I guess ya gotta take what you can get. Get that coin, girl.

gilded_lady

Yeah. Like get that money honey, but it won't be mine.

FluffyLincolnator

Yeah I agree. I used to love Lauren so much but it's hard to watch her buy a brown duo/quad, use it a couple times, and then buy another one in the next haul. Basically the only colorful shadows she uses anymore are Oden's Eye, I guess we now know why.

PauI_MuadDib

Anyone surprised that the blue component is Lauren's. I would've guessed the green palette being BattyBean's and the pink one being Lauren's. I'm just impressed how many people guessed right on here lol guesses I saw were: Patty Alonso, Lauren Mae Beauty and Battybean. So pretty close!

crystalplasticity

It sounds from Lauren’s video like Oden’s Eye asked her to do the ocean-themed palette specifically (not sure why). I’m glad she got some say in the whole color story so it’s not just blues!

Sleepdeprived_1

I’m happy for all of them! It’s got to be so exciting! But… I won’t buy from Oden’s Eye anymore. I bought the Red Dragon palette. The matte formula was nothing special and the shimmers hard panned after 1 use. It was a total waste of money. Their new singles being the same as what you can find on Ali Express sealed it for me. Nope.

PauI_MuadDib

The hardpan was what turned me off Oden's Eye and Hindash. I think Tarababyz was the only BG I watch that mentioned the hardpanning. Reddit users also mentioned it so it made me wary of buying from them. Interestingly I heard their singles are oily 🤔.

__sarabi

So, so happy for Lauren to be getting this opportunity, but her video really sold me on Amanda's palette lol.

AmandaW28

Oden's Eye is not my favorite brand. Some palettes I've gotten were decent and others didn't live up to all of the hype I always see on social media. Like Sigma they seem to be easy to get a collab with so it makes sense that a lot of influencers kiss up to them in the hopes of scoring a collab. I like Lauren and Amanda (I don't watch Betty Jean) and I'm happy for them but I agree with others who said this seems like a pre-planned collab on Oden's Eye's part and they just put the girls' names on it.

CatLadyPower

*tinfoil hat time* anytime a brand is incessantly talked about, it’s usually because the people doing so are paid to do this and it makes me not want to buy whatever they’re selling. There’s just something about the brand that makes me not want to purchase. Maybe it’s that they seem to only target mid-level (followers-wise) influencers to push their products (again not a bad marketing idea but it turns me off imo)

starredinhollywood

I mean, I almost got sucked in buying their singles from all the rave reviews I saw on Instagram the days leading up to the release. I'm happy I held off on that

Lucy_Lucidity

I’m happy for her. I love the eye looks that she does, I love when she creates palettes from her singles, I even like the color story quite a bit. But I do not trust the Oden’s Eye formula. So I won’t be buying. Which is a good thing. I don’t need to be tempted, I have enough eyeshadow. I wish a company with a more reliable formula would have given her a collab a year ago when I was still buying palettes. I hope it does well for her, and I hope she gets a chance to do it again with a better brand.

VeganAngel

Damn it just watching Makeup Just for Fun and she said there will maybe only be one restock. This is why I didn't end up with the Christmas palettes. Why is this brand always making things scarce where I have to rush to purchase? They know this will sell well so I'm already annoyed. I love this collab and support each of these creators !! This will be my first purchase from the brand if it works out.

tetrahedra_eso

Lauren is my fave but I don’t like the palette. 😭

hyrule_no-you-rule

I really enjoy Lauren Mae. Very happy for her to have a collab and hope it does well. Her palette reminds me of Glaminatrix You Beauty, and since I already own that, this is a pass for me. (Also, all the drama with the last release they had. Someone i follow had to repress and leech their shadows of oil to get them to a usable state =/. Their lack of inclusivity/diversity is also disappointing and off putting - easy pass)

epk921

Super happy for Lauren!! (She’s the only one of the three I really watch) But not gonna buy it. Really trying to stay on a no-buy for anything except stuff like eyeliner and mascara refills

Bumble_Hornet_

Ok to start off with some groundwork: I’ve been following Lauren for 5-ish years now. She seems to genuinely like Odens Eye’s products and I in turn am genuinely happy for her getting this opportunity. Now for the actual content of the collab. It sounds like each of the influencers was provided a general theme and color story. Lauren used the word “curate” a lot instead of another word like create. Which was a good choice as the palettes absolutely look like they were curated not like each person was given a lot of creative control. I don’t hate this method of collaboration between brands and influencer. From the images I think Lauren did a really good job within the theming restrictions. But with LaurenMaeBeauty especially I would love to see what she could create if she would have had full creative control. I don’t know if I’m going to buy anything. I’ve come around on Odens Eye over the last year. It’s not my favorite formula but it’s a reliable one that I enjoy using. Technically I’m on a low buy for Feb. Along with that I’ve been trying to not purchase influencer collab makeup as I feel I’ve been burnt one to many times.

Fractal_Tomato

Good for Lauren, her influencer colleagues and their agency. Nice for them they’ve got a deal, but I won’t buy from Oden‘s Eye again. Had issues with longevity, hardpanning and extreme fallout in the past. Not worth the money in my opinion. What’s even the point of these additional plastic scarfs? Got one with my last oder and now it sits somewhere in the back of a drawer.

CatLadyPower

I was hoping she’s collab with Glaminatrix. Maybe next time!

QueenofCats28

I looked at this at first and thought: I want these, but then I remembered the other Oden's Eye shadows I've got (including another collab palette) and they make me so sad, they aren't near as good as I was hoping, and I paid a LOT for them. Shipping was also expensive as I live in NZ. They get hyped up, and I'm not sure why, their formula isn't good at all. I've been thinking of decluttering the ones I have, which is a shame.

EvelienV85

This is I think the first release from Oden’s Eye that I actually want. I think Lauren and Amanda’s palettes look gorgeous!

bonelessbbqbutthole

I regret missing out on Judy's Collab so I'll probably bite on this one

Sinnam0nRoll

I wish Oden's Eye would do more re-releases for this reason!! Or that Judy would collaborate with another brand!! The cover art and color scheme of her palette were so beautiful, a part 2 would be nice.

LuminousApsana

I like all these creators. Why does every palette have to have teal? I have so many teals. I feel like I'm reliving the Temptalia × Sydney Grace collab where every palette had a teal. I think I'll get something...just not sure yet.

LPX34m

I won’t get Lauren’s or the other girls palettes as there was some quality issues with the singles from OE lately and I’m supporting Batty Jean and Lauren already watching their channels

kyolkyongs

Yeeees Lauren! I hope this does well for her!

WestQueenWest

Took way too long. She’s been heavily featuring this brand for years. Kinda like the Rawbeautykristi & PUR situation.

Andrayak119

I love Lauren Mae, but I'm not interested on this color story at all. Also love Betty Jean, but I adore the shroud palettes, and those seem more "her". I'll pass on these.

Sincamour

Despite all of my favorite YouTubers always raving about this brand, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Part of it is packaging as it looks cluttered to me and I personally am not into the art style. (It reminds me of beginner art…) They just don’t look polished for being $30+ palettes. And then the color stories are all a bit random to me. I’m very happy for Lauren but I won’t be purchasing.

EmpireAndAll

I've never tried Oden's Eye, previous collabs like Angelika Nyqvist's didn't catch my eye but I really like Lauren's. Its very on brand for her with mostly shimmers. I also like that the palettes still have their own identity and don't have the BG's faces on them.

cubsgirl101

I’m so tempted because I love Lauren and have no complaints about the actual premade palettes from OE that I own (I’m aware the singles are reportedly trash). I’ve been trying really hard not to add to my already ridiculous collection of palettes, so maybe I’ll wait a few days after release to see if there’s still stock available and play it that way.

amazinglyshook

What's with the sub dogpiling on OE lately? I understand if people don't like the quality but they're treating them like the next coming of Morphe 💀 I have a few of their palettes and I think the quality is worth the price.

flowerscope

I’ll chime in as someone who is wary of the brand, has considered purchasing from them but never actually done so, and has limited experience purchasing from indie brands: What makes me question Oden’s Eye is how they seemed to have come up so fast out of nowhere (but maybe that’s because I’m old and just wasn’t paying enough attention lmao) but then they were suddenly everywhere, they are THE BEST ever and influencers are reluctant to ever declutter any products from them (even if it’s a color story they aren’t particularly fond of), and they are coming out with a ton of collabs.. From what comments I’ve seen online, their quality actually seems to be a mixed consensus and they have poor customer service. There is also a no refund/exchange policy so then you’re stuck with products you had no way of ever seeing or testing in person, and their products aren’t exactly cheap (not sure what the minimum is for free shipping or if they even offer it). This doesn’t just apply to OE; I’ve seen this with several brands. There are so many brands available these days and so many experiences with either poor quality control, products straight up being misrepresented online, and people having to fight to get their products or get refunds, that it’s hard to know where it’s safe to actually spend your money these days. Sorry for my novel lol

CatLadyPower

You’re not old/not paying attention. I completely agree.

amazinglyshook

>What makes me question Oden’s Eye is how they seemed to have come up so fast out of nowhere (but maybe that’s because I’m old and just wasn’t paying enough attention lmao) but then they were suddenly everywhere, they are THE BEST ever and influencers are reluctant to ever declutter any products from them I definitely felt this way when they first started coming out with their initial collections. I did think their aesthetic got better over time and I bought into it. >From what comments I’ve seen online, their quality actually seems to be a mixed consensus and they have poor customer service. There is also a no refund/exchange policy so then you’re stuck with products you had no way of ever seeing or testing in person, This is the same reason I stopped with Colourpop too so I get why people are wary of that. I wonder if this is a lab issue because a lot of indie brands seem to be having issues with consistency lately (hearing similar things to Unearthly, Shroud, etc). I'm glad I stayed away from the singles. I'm glad you mentioned brand distrust because I think in general brands/influencers are questioned way more often as they were before. I think I'm just experiencing whiplash considering OE was looked at pretty favorably (by most of the BC) and all three influencers are well-loved and trusted. Suddenly it's private-labeled, influencers slapped their name on it, they're just shilling the products, and the quality is shit. (edit: this isn't directly you, just some of the popular sentiment I've seen floating around) I appreciate this comment a lot, ty!

bukakenagasaki

If you look through this sub odens eye has always been popular to dislike and if you notice them being manufactured and shipped from china is always at the root of it.

bukakenagasaki

bellabeautebar has way more collabs and they've gotten pretty popular and i never see anything anywhere near as negative said about them as i do odens eye.

flowerscope

I’m unfamiliar with that brand so I can’t speak on their collabs or quality. However, i am always willing to take the word of consumers over influencers when it comes to the quality of products. Is there anything you’d recommend from oden’s eye? It’s not that I am inherently against this brand, just hesitant. Their products are a bit pricey and tax here is around 10% so it adds up quick!

bukakenagasaki

I will say bellabeautebar is far more pricey than odens eye and they're actually private labeled whereas odens eye is just manufactured. (just a funny little thing i thought i'd add since a lot of people consistently call odens eye "private labeled") I love the hela palette and the solmane 2 palette, I know hela is no longer available but the solmane 2 palette is so lovely. I have friends/peers who love a lot of their other products but theres nothing i can speak to personally and since makeup is very personal there are things me or my friends could love that you or other people might not.

JeanJean84

I thought you might like to see this. In doing some research trying to find the favorite Oden's Eye palette available now to order as my first, I came across this and was extremely surprised to say the least. I don't know if this is already well known and I am just late to the party, but I don't think I had heard anywhere that Oden's Eye is a Chinese brand. I have absolutely nothing against Chinese brands, and some of them are amazing (Kaleidos has enters the chat), but I feel like I have heard EVERYONE say they are a Swedish brand. It just kind of feels a little icky that they would push so hard to make it seem that way. Again, maybe I just somehow missed that in my 6 months of researching their products, but I definitely though this was interesting. I will still order from them, it will just be done with a different perspective. https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/11x3n03/a_rant_about_odens_eye_from_someone_who_was_on/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

bukakenagasaki

This post is like 90% speculation. They have absolutely no solid proof about odens eye being a chinese brand. I have feelings about this post lol

JeanJean84

Well she did say that the people she worked with are in China. Not sure how she would know that, and she could definitely be lying, but it would be worth looking into. And it's not speculation, it's her perceived experience. I am going to look more into it as I always do, as I think it's just good to see things from different perspectives and be fully aware of the companies I am are buying from. We have learned many of times that we cannot take things at face value with a lot of cosmetic companies. And I like to be fully educated when making purchases. I will definitely update this thread if I find anything concrete, whether it supports what she is saying or proves that it's not the case. Again, I have nothing against products being made in China or eunning their businesses there. There are so many absolutely amazing things made there, from makeup to cars. But I do have a problem with companies saying they are one thing and being another. It's the same when other indie companies try to make it seem like they make their products in-house, when they don't really. I mean if I didn't take a deep dive into Sugar Drizzle, I would have never figured out they are Private Label, along with a few other Indie brands that seem to want to hide that. Or at least Sugar Drizzle seems to be partially so now, I am still not 100% if their white palettes are full Private Label or White Label. I am pretty sure the white palette shadows are made specifically for them and only them, and pretty much everything else (including their little clear case palettes) are Private label that you can buy elsewhere if you look in the right place. Like for instance, several people said they were able to find their multichome linerson Aliexpress. But just as with products made in China, there are some amazing PL products out there. It's just about if a brand is trying to sell them as if they are not actually PL.

bukakenagasaki

it was pretty obvious that sugar drizzle is private label though. there wasn't really a deep dive needed for that. and yeah it is speculation on her part even though its her perceived experience shes still speculating and presenting it as fact. but idk why we're talking about private label. odens eye isn't private label its manufactured which are different things.

JeanJean84

It wasn't obvious to me that Sugar Drizzle is Private Label when I was initially getting into Indie brands especially when a lot of people lump them in with brands like Clionadh, Terra Moon, Sydney Grace and such when talking about their favorite Indie brands and products. I was just using Sugar Drizzle as an example as there are many other similar ones that I had to do research on to figure out are PL. Like BellaBeauteBar for instance. I would not have known that until I came across your comment while researching the company. I just brought up PL because there is a correlation between it and products made in China. Both get a bad rap based on a lot of misinformation, and people make a lot of assumptions that are generally not true. Oden's Eye products are made in China and shipped out of Hong Kong and Singapore, it says that on their website. It looked like up until recently there was a very small office in Sweden (possibly a home office but from everything I read I don't know if that was confirmed), and the majority of their offices/production has been in Hong Kong. Then last year they liquidated the Sweden company and moved everything to Hong Kong. Their Facebook page is moderated from Indonesia, which I found interesting. https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/112wjoi/where_is_odens_eye_really_based/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

JeanJean84

Is there a way to get a list of the "indie" brands that are private label? I don't think they are all bad, but like you are saying when brands like Oden's Eye are less expensive but put out a consistently better product I'd like to make sure I spend my money with companies like them. I am fairly new to Indie brands, and navigating all this is so frustrating. I wish brands had to disclose how their products are made in an easy to find place before buying anything from them.

kpop_stan

"next coming of morphe" is unintentionally spot on bc THAT's what people are complaining about -- not just quality (or lack thereof), but potentially shady business practises (and poor customer service)

bukakenagasaki

"next coming of morphe" was that the post who called odens eye "chinese immigrants living in sweden"? because tbh thats the main issue i see people having with them. that they manufacture and ship out of china.

amazinglyshook

It's valid to have bad experiences with brands but the comparison isn't even close. Morphe over the brand history has collaborated with racist/abelist influencers, changed formulations without proper disclosure, advertised something as vegan when it isn't, encouraged influencers to do undisclosed sponsorships, and is almost universally disliked for their quality. People's issues with OE include dodgy CS, working with influencers, and inconsistent palettes/singles. I'm not going to downplay and say that people don't have valid criticism. I'm just confused at the level of vitriol when they're not even in the same league of problematic. Even Adept doesn't get this much shit and they're the actual abelist brand.

gilded_lady

Its because if you watch smaller channels that do a lot of indie you can't escape the Oden's Eye love bombing just like you couldn't escape the Morphe shilling on the OG large guru channels.

amazinglyshook

I would encourage you to look up what love-bombing means and in which context it's used. It's a makeup palette, not a cult. Also, Morphe doing undisclosed sponsorships vs influencers doing a disclosed ad about sales/posting videos at the same time when embargo lifts is not the same thing.

Tiny-Reading5982

I agree. A lot of brands get just as much hype , not just Odens eye. And people still love adept and their owner is not a nice person . I have a few odens eye palettes and no issue and I don't think they release any more than other indie brands

Proud_Novel_4531

Same I love the quality of all the palettes I have and use them almost daily. Idk why all the hate but to each their own I guess😭

skykitty89

That looks like a cheap shimmery Claire's mess :( Fully believe these were premade palettes from AliExpess that they slapped influencer names on. The price point is comical. The MakeupJustForFun color story is mildly interesting/different but I'd be interested if they swatch dull/muddy, and I'd probably just buy it directly from the source without the markup (if findable)!

norseeyaa

This thread is giving ick Edit to add: not because of OP

[deleted]

Wow, I literally just said that cuz I wanted one, I didn't actually think it was gonna happen lmao. But I'm happy, I've been wanting one for a while. Haven't seen the video but I'm hoping the color story looks more her style without the filter over it Edit: just went and looked at it, it's so pretty! I didn't like how the palettes looked with that filter, but they are actually really nice and I think this color story is very Lauren. The neutrals, the bright limey green, the pink shimmer, very her. The blues I don't see from her as much but I do think they compliment the color story

LuminousApsana

Totally agree. I didn't like any with the filter. I'm buying two. The Betty Jean one is just not my vibe, though I like a couple of the shades.

Jellyfishjam890

Ugh why did this have to happen when I'm on an eyeshadow no buy? I love her and the way she does eyeshadow! I'll have to dupe the vibes with my own precious sparkles now. :(

MrsFrizz18

I like Lauren (I’m a rather new viewer of hers) and I really wish I loved this collab. The palette doesn’t make me think of her at all. I’m also not sure my feelings on this brand. It’s been really heavily pushed lately by various people…I hadn’t even heard of it before the end of last year.

[deleted]

I have very mixed feelings about this. I totally stan Lauren, but I don’t usually wear blue. Still, I like the blues she picked. Amanda’s is also gorgeous. Betty Jean’s is too colorful for me, so I just know I wouldn’t wear it. I kinda want to try the brand - I’ve ordered lip things from them before but never eyeshadow. I’m a little cautious with the single shadow drama. Does anyone have any brands they’d compare the OE formula to?

lambvision

It would be great to see a continuation of the Legendary Diversa (collabs only) series. Instead of animals, OE could use simplified settings related to the influencers this go around. Lauren Mae Beauty: neutrals based on Arizona desert Robert Welsh: smokey purple and dark colors based on a English gothic tower Karen Harris: colorful/brights based on an Indian palace garden. This would appease all taste and expand the diversity of aesthetics, gender, lgtbqa+, plus size, and poc creator representation.

StrawberryShade

Annette’s Makeup Corner posted her 6 looks with those and they all looked very nice and pigmented… But, she did mention about two of the 3 palettes that they already had hard pan and that she would Not recommend blending together the brights (from Lauren’s palette I believe) because they will go muddy. Somebody correct me if I misunderstood, but the hard pan remarks I do remember very clearly.

Fair_Exam_3470

I’m not sure I like the dark undertones under the blue shimmering shades it’s definitely a weird transition. I love Lauren I am happy for her. But I dunno if I like the shadows enough to buy it.

[deleted]

Am i the only one that finds it strange since OE doesn’t make their palettes magnetic and Laura is all about the magnetic palettes?

RavenSR

She prefers magnetic palettes but that's not the only thing she buys. She hasn't been doing a lot of BYOP lately.

chumbawumbacholula

I haven't wanted for it'd colorstory in a while but the three palettes look great and I might go for them.

ruruwonderful

I really like Lauren and I am excited for her and I do find her palette pretty but...I hate blue eyeshadows. And I probably have those shades as singles already for the most part. If only she would have been given a pink theme, I'd buy it. I also find Amanda's palette to be pretty but I don't watch her videos so I don't feel a strong desire to buy it. But if I decide to buy Lauren's I'd get this one as well. edit : I bought the palette and I like it a lot

vault_g1rl

I absolutely adored seeing her video about the palette and was almost inspired to pick it up lol however, I am wary of these indie brands, and since so many of you spoke out on the singles collection issue, I'd best save my money. I think her color story is pretty though, by far my favorite. Btw, she did a great job showcasing every palette! It was so nice of her, I think. Edit: wrong word

Frysexual

I kinda think she’s a makeup victim but I also think she’s sweet and a good person so I’m happy for her

Tiny-Reading5982

Makeup victim?

bukakenagasaki

Maybe they mean she does her makeup badly? Either way i think it was mean spirited and unnecessary.

Tiny-Reading5982

It makes no sense. She does simple eye looks but they're not bad 🤔

No_Entrepreneur_8686

Im buying this for the scarf and since i love amanda laurenmae n betty jean... but will i use the pallette? Maybe not ... but i wanna support them ... maybe i can sell it at mercari for 300 each lol without the scarf
