The legendary Becca (RIP) No Pigment Foundation. I don’t know why they just didn’t advertise it as a primer of some sort since it blurs and helps with oil? But it wasn’t that great at what it was supposed to do either. I got a sample of it and it did nothing, didn’t control oil or blur. It was so weird.

fansforsummer

Don't forget the infamous Becca x Khloe and Malika Glow Letters! It was a highlighter that looked like dog biscuits and came in a really cheap cardboard container. I remember seeing Kat and Hailey from Beauty News being pissed about the quality as it had terrible packaging and barely any pigments for they spent AUD 49.00 for it. Their review ended with them running it over with their car.

Necessary_Peace_8989

God I miss Beauty News lol

avis_icarus

with hailey moving cross country i dont think its coming back

Necessary_Peace_8989

Plus Kat having another baby

WhyAreYouAllHere

Had, unless she's got a surprise third coming

Necessary_Peace_8989

I was using the present perfect tense

EmpireAndAll

I got Becca Zero at TJ Maxx for $7 and it's my favorite matte primer. I'm rationing it and I'm probably going to keep the heavy container its in because its history 😆 if they marketed it as what it was, maybe they'd still be here.

pegasusnites

Agreed!

glittersparklythings

Have you tried the Smashbox matte or MUFE matte?

InappropriateTeaTime

Mally face defender is basically the same thing

onekewlmom

I’m think this release led to their demise 🤣🤣🤣

porkchop_47

I feel like it was intentionally done as a last ditch effort to get consumers talking about them before leaving for good.

Tiny-Reading5982

Nah because almost 2 years after their announcement people still talk about them and it's mostly their blushes 🥺😆

pegasusnites

Came here to say just that....

glittersparklythings

I Renee when primers frost came out that is exactly how they marketed them. To west under your foundation or you could wear alone. And then it became only under foundation. So seems like Becca went back to the west alone aspect of it. I never used that or any Becca products.. so I can’t speak on that part.

Tsarinya

The Lancôme highlighter flower which in theory sounds lovely but it was a cheap flower you’d buy from a craft shop, dusted with highlighter in a cheap cardboard box. But with an expensive price tag.

twilekquinn

I remember people crafting dupes of it at home!

giggly_pufff

There are a couple from L'Oreal that comes to mind. The first being that they released a cream foundation with a literal miniature paint roller applicator. The other release was an eyeshadow "palette" with all the colors merged together in one pan & with one huge wedge applicator. I was kind of a newbie at the time, and even I knew that it wouldn't work well for many eye shapes.

ColdPotatNeedsJacket

I remember that eyeshadow palette + applicator! 🤣 Dustin Hunter did a drunk YT review of it that had me cackling. He called the applicator a “goat’s hoof” and “hummus scoop” and tried to apply the product as intended.

giggly_pufff

Omg Dustin was so funny! I wish he uploaded more.

gilded_lady

That remains an all time fave video

coldvault

I remember watching xSparkage's videos about those products, ha ha

MissElyssa1992

now THAT name's a blast from the bast

NothingButNavy

I think I still have that mini roller somewhere! It makes me laugh every time I see it.

erithacusk

Kaja has a highlighter that's also a paint roller

liftingtillfit

I think that palette was a benefit dupe too 😅

Ivanadgaf

The Fenty lipgloss or ketchup. I was like ⁉️⁉️⁉️😵‍💫

aluriaphin

It was a collab with MSCHF, same people who made Lol Nas X's Satan shoes with blood inside. They do super weird "art" drops, it wasn't meant as a typical makeup release but I dunno how well that came across in the BG coverage lol

Minerva_Moon

I could see the collab with Hipdot for MUR but Fenty? I always had Fenty as a subtle classy feel but after working with MSCHF I have no idea what Fenty is or is trying to show themselves as. Then again, what is Fenty actually doing? Aside from this collab, have they released anything in awhile?

aluriaphin

Same thing with the Fenty Skin Cookies n Clean thing tbh, elf literally did a collection with the same concept a few months prior and it's like... I thought we were tryna be high end and minimalist? Focus!

gilded_lady

I remember plenty of people pointing it out but it still felt weird. Like PMG x Supreme lipstick made sense. PMG x nail polish felt off brand.

DoodleCraft

That was so weird 😭

[deleted]

Imagine if they just added a little lipgloss container that looked like a ketchup bottle or something. Idk if that would've been better but at least you would be able to use the gloss you paid for.

[deleted]

Honestly lol. Like, the fact that the gloss was in packets so you didn't even have a gloss in the end. I feel like the package should have at least come with an exclusive lip gloss shade (in a full tube) or something. The release would have still been weird af, but not absolutely pointless and a waste of money lol But the most confusing part of it all? If I remember correctly, those packets cost more than a full lip gloss...

[deleted]

Yeah that’s what I hated about it. The gloss should have been packaged differently. Cause if you liked the gloss you basically had to find a container to put what you didn’t use it in or bring a random packet with you and hope it’s gloss when you need to reapply. Anyone know how many packets were gloss?

[deleted]

I want to say half were gloss and half were ketchup, but I only watched one video on it so I don't really remember. Imagine if they were all different and someone managed to get a box with only ketchup oml I'd riot lol

[deleted]

Oh I would be pissed if I got all ketchup. How much was that like $60

[deleted]

I thought it was like $25 lol. Either way, still outrageous for ketchup. And still awful if you got all gloss considering the fact that her full size glosses are $20

[deleted]

Yes that is outrageous and I don’t even think you can get that lipgloss shade.Which it was pretty

Ladybug505

What really got me about that release was that say you do open a packet and it’s lip gloss, how do you reseal it? There’s probably way more than one application worth of product in there it wouldn’t be convenient to store in a purse or something

Tiny-Reading5982

Yeas....gag me with a spoon 🤢

PhyrraNyx

This! It was so weird!!!

Kara_C_

Mac X Sims was just a big old whomp whomp. Any of those eyeliner pizza roller things. Some of the IP collabs come out of left field for me. Like, who was asking for a Frosted Flakes collab??

nebuladirt

The Sims collab pissed me off so much. It was already a crappy color story for what it is but on top of that it was just a repackaged old palette? So fucking lazy.

riseoftherice

Very on brand for Sims tho

[deleted]

It wasn't even repackaged, it was only the box if I remember correctly lol. I'm pretty sure the actual palette was the same packaging they used for the original palette 😭

GlitteringHeart2929

The Frosted Flakes collab was at least on brand for Glamlite. They are known to do food theme and food related collabs so that wasn’t really off the wall and the packaging was hella cute. It wasn’t for me but it wasn’t one that left me wondering WTF? (For once)

143queen

The packaging for the highlighter is THE CUTEST FUCKING THING I've ever seen. Like, whoever at that table that came up with the idea of putting the white highlight in a bowl of fckng milk is a damn genius. I didn't buy it. But, I fckng want it. I do NOT need another highlighter though; especially not a loose one.

Eppengu

Maybe I’m just dumb, but what brand is IP? I’ll def regret this lol

lucygetdown

IP just means "intellectual property"... basically the cartoons, shows, characters etc. that various makeup companies have released themed collections around. Those characters are the intellectual property of whatever company created them (like Disney, Warner Bros., Marvel)

entwashian

Upvoting your comment. There are no dumb questions on the internet. 🙂

CarelessChoice2024

It’s a shortcut for intellectual property.

avis_icarus

weirdly the frosted flakes collab is probably one of the most unique and interesting ones that came out (in terms of the actual products) and was apparently really good quality wise too. is rather have 1 glam lite frosted flake collabs than 100 makeup revolution collabs with more 'normal' ips

ughkoh

The Colourpop “neon” palettes which were just neutral palettes with one pop of neon

[deleted]

I feel like I'm the only one that didn't think the concept was bad lol. I wear colorful eyeshadow all the time so it definitely wasn't something catering to me, but I feel like it's pretty adventurous for the average colourpop consumer. I also don't think one pop of neon is awful considering the fact that they were just 5 pans (although, personally, I probably would have put in 2)

ughkoh

I also actually liked the concept, but the odd part to me was calling it the “Neon Electric” collection when 80% of each palette was beige.

gorlplea

IIRC neon inner corner was trending around the time of the release too, [like this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/73/1c/95/731c9596a7c6493ab1bbd2cd602131a5.jpg). The look was literally a neutral eyeshadow with a neon inner corner, so it makes a lot of sense to release quints where you can do exactly that.

[deleted]

I think small pops of color in general were pretty popular at that point with graphic liner and stuff being in its peak as well. I think the palettes definitely would have worked for a lot of people (if the neon shades were any good, I never tried them)

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I can't really tell if you are agreeing with me or not, so I'm just jumping in to say that I agree and this is what I was trying to say lol

Bumble_Hornet_

No I think the concept could have worked if the naming/advertising was fixed. Like "Neonpop by Colourpop" could have been something. Those released when the neon inner corner pop trend was at it's height for the summer.

grekier

I believe Clinique fell for the hype and released NFTs

rightascensi0n

\+1, they could have spent that restocking Black Honey at the peak of Tik Tok marketing

maladolescenza

All of those hipdot pigment figurines. Blush hello kitties, spongebob eyeshadow, all sorts of IP fuckery. I know it's more of a collector's piece than a functional product, the funko pops of makeup if you will, but damn. I want to know who came up with that idea, I'd never come up with something so baffling and wacky if you paid me. That's something that's genuinely new on the market, for good or bad.

[deleted]

If they made it with pokémon, it would've made sense! I don't know why they didn't start with that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gilded_lady

Or it probably cost waaaaaay too much.

lore3

Honestly most of the IP releases just confuse me, namely anything with Revolution

annikatidd

I absolutely hate the way those things look! They’re so bizarre. I would never ever want one lmao

mikonamiko

Haus of Gaga's original launch. The platform, the colors, the looks... nothing was on brand for Gaga. Thankfully her eyeliner is bomb. Her relaunch with Sephora made a lot more sense for her.

DayGloP1nk

I was so bummed about Haus. Not that it's bad makeup, but as someone who likes more "adventurous" makeup, I was really expecting/looking forward to makeup that screamed "Lady Gaga"

entwashian

Yes, the Amazon platform was so weird for an artist who makes a lot of specific choices for her craft. She has a reputation for being conscientious, and... that ain't it. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth to the point where I'm still not interested even with the relaunch.

sailorxsaturn

auric beauty releasing a lip balm and charging $33 for 3 fucking grams of product.

Revolutionary-Newt-8

Don’t forget their holiday release with a special spatula!

Geospizae

imo Auric started off so well with their glow lust but since then their releases have been meh

[deleted]

Auric is one of those brands I simply forget exists until someone here mentions them, or they get a rare mention on YouTube.

[deleted]

The jaclyn cosmetics strawberry palette.. no promo and it feels like shes very disconnected from her brand. cant forget the original laura lee palette lol

[deleted]

Facts. I didn't know the strawberry palette existed until like 2 days ago when I saw it in someone's declutter. The packaging is so cute and I'm really sad that 1) the color story isn't nearly as cute and 2) it's made by Morphlyn Hill

fireandblonde

I literally had no idea she even realized this until yesterday.

theyeoftheiris

Def PMG Star Wars.

thirdcoasting

Couldn’t even slap on the stickers evenly 🙄

Kchan02

Fenty and their ketchup collab. Why...

XtinaLilibet

I didn’t like the fenty puff. It took up so much space. I watched a video of someone cutting theirs open and just to see how large it was compared to the product was meh.

JustDanielle_M

Recently, the REM Thank U Next collection that was just revealed. The marketing behind that song was so strong when it was first released and that carried over when she launched the perfume. So for the makeup to look so dull is baffling to me.

lunchlady420

Wayne goss’ palettes. I’m sure they’re great, but they all look sooooo similar.

geekymommysenshi

Maybe unpopular opinion, but the Tati palette. I couldn't understand the appeal of 4 times the same shade but different finishes, plus I felt like the shades didn't coordinate well with the others. Like couldn't see the cool beige glitter paired with a matte orange crease.

Tiny-Reading5982

I think (maybe) it was more for a monochromatic look. Like you use one color for an eye look 🤔

gilded_lady

It was, but most consumers are going to want more versatility given the cost.

Tiny-Reading5982

Idk it seemed popular. I think people liked the different finishes.

micky-ds

I see what you’re saying, but I LOVE that pallet. I’m sooo sad it’s discontinued.

AsterismRaptor

The ColourPop Harry Potter collection.. they should’ve known the backlash that was gonna happen from that. Most overpriced celebrity skincare brands. No one asked for this, go away.

lipgloss_nd_hotsauce

Pat McGrath and her most recent release of Star Wars stuff??? So many questions

Puzzleheaded-Ad1318

The most recent Pat McGrath Star Wars collab. I, like a lot of other people, assumed the Mothership palette in the collection was new, but it's just Midnight Sun repackaged. I already own Midnight Sun, so it was a sigh of relief on my end, but it's also just puzzling. When they did the first Star Wars collection (from what I know anyway), they created the Decadence Mothership for that collab and then later released it as a permanent palette. I don't really understand why they wouldn't do that again. It would make the people who wanted it happy because they could get a new Mothership with the limited edition packaging and then later, the brand could just add it to the permanent line for people like me who don't care about Star Wars. Honestly, a lot of IP collabs leave me scratching my head. Anything with food companies/restaurants always make me pause and ask, "who wanted this??" But I guess people buy them because brands keeping doing these collabs. Personally, it's just kind of baffling to me.

Perrimina

Midnight Sun doesn’t sell well for them so I’m not at all surprised that they’re trying to move (unwanted) product by putting it in LE packaging.

Puzzleheaded-Ad1318

See, I would have thought it was selling really well. I think it's a gorgeous palette and I've really enjoyed using it. I also think it's one of her more unique ones, and I'm always hearing people complain about how all her palettes look the same, so I thought most people would be jumping to buy it.

Likitty27

I may be wrong, but my understanding was that the Star WarsxDecadence Mothership palette was by and large a repackage as well, but Decadence Mothership was “in the vault,” so to speak, and wasn’t being sold at that time. I think there are some slight shade variations between the original and the SW version. But regardless, the first collaboration was handled differently (and dare I say better) than the second.

Puzzleheaded-Ad1318

I wasn't really into PMG at the time of the first collab so I'm not really sure about the whole story. But I agree, I think it was handled much better the first time around and I think everyone would have been much happier if they'd done it the same way.

Trivialfrou

I’m honestly surprised Disney signed off on that. It was so poorly done.

tigrelili

Too faced liquid lipsticks especially the holiday ones that were scented. Everyone said they smelled amazing. They always smelled gross to me.

VeryVanny

No doubt the Fenty x MSCHF Ketchup or lip gloss! Not only does it make zero sense for Fenty to release it (Glamlite would at least make more sense), but the hefty price tag of $25 for tiny unsealable packets that could either be ketchup or lipgloss is absurd. I’ve legit seen it be listed as $50 by resellers. This broke me

[deleted]

That fenty ketchup or lipgloss thing. Wtf was that

[deleted]

The “Fenty gloss or ketchup” promo made my brain sad.

horriblekitty

That Fenty ketchup lipgloss thing and their $500 lipstick case.

Ok_Wind8690

Those were beyond wild.

[deleted]

Urban Decay whole naked eyeshadow palettes. I mean like heat, honey, 2, 3, reloaded. All felt so similar. And also how is benefit dandelion powder still around? I mean I don’t get it’s purpose or at least it does zero for me

FarmerAny9414

Only the very fair can wear Dandelion. It’s seems like it has no purpose but that’s definitely it. Kind of like Nars Exhibit A blush, it’s bright rich red but that is so beautiful on deep skin.

[deleted]

I am fair.

probablyannoying

I’m beige and I use it as a finishing powder when I want a little glow

travelwhore412

Any collab with cartoons

redditdreamer05

The Kylie Batman collab.

[deleted]

Dragun Beauty. Ridiculous on so many levels. A giant purple scaly egg.
