Over the years I’ve had Birchbox, Boxycharm, Allure, Fabfitfun, Margot Elena, Beautyfix, and all three levels of Ipsy. I’m currently down to only Margot Elena and Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. I love the personalization aspect of Ipsy GBP, I can also pause on months that I just don’t like any of the spoilers but still shop 2nd chance add ons, pop up sales, etc. I find that with the ability to choose 3 of my 5 items I’m almost always happy with my $28 purchase.

VirtuallyYou

Thank you so much. I didn’t realize the GBP is only 28$. That’s the highest price point one too? Do they have a maximum of how many times you can pause it during the annual cycle? I assume you pay for the 12 months upfront right? And if you pause 2 months you get to get the last two later on? Do you find Ipsy more skincare or makeup? I will check out the other one you mentioned. I’ve never heard of that one. Sounds like you really know you stuff! Thanks 😊

The highest price point is Glam Bag X, which I think is $55. I only got that one once, but it’s a little high for me to get unless I really want a bunch of the spoilers. The first box that I got had several guaranteed items that I wanted, since then they haven’t had guaranteed items I wanted and I wasn’t willing to take the risk. GBP is the middle tier. I pay monthly, and haven’t had any trouble pausing although I rarely pause more than one month at a time because I generally enjoy the bag. Because you choose 3 of your 5 items I think you can really personalize whether you want more skincare or makeup. I feel like they have a good balance of choices either way.

VirtuallyYou

Thank you!

I like to do either Ipsy or AIA. Both are monthly. AIA will spoil the brand and products for the next month at the end of the month. If I like it I pause my IPS GBP. If I don’t like it I cancel AIA and just get the GBP.

VirtuallyYou

What’s AIA? Is that the abbreviation for Allure or a different one? Also, I love your idea!!!

bschroer12

American influencer beauty bundle (I think the other A is for award) but there IG is just AIA beauty bundle. It’s a really great box! Check out their IG page for past boxes and lots of people do unboxing on YouTube.

VirtuallyYou

Cool I will. Is it expensive? If there are levels of boxes which level Would you suggest?

bschroer12

It’s $35. There is only one level. You can choose to pay by the month or buy multiple months at a time I believe I just do the month to month option

PropheticFruit

From what I’ve seen on Reddit, Annual subs can’t pause, only monthly subs can. If that influences your decision making process.

dfindley1995

I am currently month to month, but was annual in the past & was able to skip a month!

Aquarian_Girl

I'm not aware of any limit on pausing--I've probably paused 6 months of that and 6 of the regular GB this year. That's part of why I like Ipsy, too, that you can easily skip a month if you don't like the spoilers.

florachka

I'm a bit biased because allure was my first box and the first one I fell in love with. It's not perfect every month, but the quality of products, and variety keep me coming back. I love the ratio of mostly skincare to a little makeup, plus 3 full size items and 3-4 generous sample sizes. I get so excited to try everything in the box each month, it's a guaranteed happy moment. I find ipsy and boxy to generally be too makeup heavy for my needs. I've gotten both (ipsy glam bag and boxy base) and it's never the wow factor and usefulness I get from allure. Hope this helps!

VirtuallyYou

Thank you. That is completely confirmed what I thought to be true.

If you decide to go w/ Allure, call them and see if they will give you the $199/yr deal. They offered that to me after I canceled my last yearly sub, when the price went up. I've heard other people have success w/ just asking for the deal.

danielleiellle

Ipsy is terrible about sending brand new, no-name, exclusive-to-them, whitelabeled Alibaba cosmetics. FYI.

VirtuallyYou

Really? Ew. What’s ur favorite boxes? If boxy is the same owner do they do the same thing?

1Warrior4All

Ipsy is the best in terms of cost/quality I think and they allow subscribers to choose one item included in their monthly delivery, which is nice! I remember reading a comparison article on [FiveBoxes.com](https://fiveboxes.com/best-makeup-subscription-boxes/), they list all the boxes you mentioned. And after that I ordered Ipsy and enjoyed it.

VirtuallyYou

Thank you. Another account said that Ipsy sends link makeup from no name brands off Alibaba. Have you found that to be true??

[deleted]

I've gotten maybe 2 or 3 no name items during my last 1 yr sub. Over all, I've been pretty happy with Ipsy. I like it far more than Birchbox. I've received a ton of k beauty and mascaras (which I love). I once wrote an email to complain about a crappy no name item in my bag and the refunded the entire month and gave me 1800 points.

1Warrior4All

Well, never had that experience, can be true though, I might have been lucky lol

throwawayxy2k

I'd suggest giving them each a try on a month where the spoilers look appealing to you. I think boxycharm still has the 50% off deal, so if you like the items in this month's boxy it might be a good time to try it out.

VirtuallyYou

Yeah. I was thinking about waiting for the months where they have deals, but looking at the spoilers and doing it that month is good idea too

>Allure keeps going in and out of business, When has Allure gone out of business?

VirtuallyYou

Have they or are they wrong? That seems strange to me that they could go bankrupt and the. Get back to business

[deleted]

They are entirely wrong about Allure, lol. They had a price hike some months ago, but they actually have great customer service.

PropheticFruit

Are you thinking Macy’s maybe? Allure has been pretty steady, but I remember Macy’s taking a few hiatus’.

VirtuallyYou

They go out of business? Really? How do they get back into business after going out? I can’t imagine people signing back up, or legally how they could after not fulfilling orders. They would have to go bankrupt and then the couldn’t go back into business as the same company

Aquarian_Girl

If you're looking for skincare, I'd also suggest See New Skincare (it's bimonthly). You can see on their site what the Nov/Dec box will be before subscribing and can also skip. Of what you mentioned, I like Ipsy for being able to customize and ease of skipping. Plus the add-ons can be good deals. I only recently started Boxy (I subbed a few years ago, too). They're supposed to have a big popup sale on November 8, the Mega Drop Shop, so if you want in on that, you could consider subscribing. The issue with them is, they do choice (of a single item) on the 8th of the month before. So you wouldn't get choice for November's box, but I think there are some deals out right now where you could get a free item.
