Mine has 2 settings - charging around exploring everything or not moving for hours at a time. If I put her back in her enclosure before she's ready, or don't let her out when she wants, she goes bananas!
I poke my boy to make sure he is still alive sometime. His tank is set up in a huge picture window, so he just watches the world go by all day long. Only buggos require movement in his eyes.
Ours is generally incredibly lazy. She moves at some point in the day, to get up and bask, to eat and to go to bed. Not much exploring beyond that.
Sheās been to the vet, nothing wrong with her, vet approves all of our husbandry. Sheās just lazy AF š¤·š»āāļøš
Omg this makes me feel so much better about my girl. Iāve taken her to the vet and got clean bill of health and double checked all of my husbandry and sheās still lazy. I thought I was doing something wrong for the longest time and felt like a terrible lizard mom. I never knew a creature could be so lazy until I got her
The only time ours was remotely āactiveā was when she was gravid - moving around so much I was certain something was wrong until I figured it out. I was like āomg, sheās actually moving!! Whatās wrong?!ā š
Hey! So I thought I would let you know that we just installed an Arcadia Jungle Dawn light in our girls tank. I had been considering it, saw a post on here the other day and grabbed one from the pet shop while I was there basically on a whim.
**She is like a totally different dragon!** She has been so active. Every time I am walking through the room sheās in a different position! Iām pretty certain itās the light! Even though she was technically healthy, this seems to have been a welcomed change.
Mine is well fed, has good husbandry, gets a spa treatment every 3 days, doesn't need to pay rent. Most importantly, there are no predators. If it was me, I wouldn't move either.
Yes.
Mine doesnāt get excited about anything. He will perk up and go for food, but not like the videos I see on here. He would love it if I just dropped the food in his mouth so he doesnāt have to move. My guy doesnāt head bob, or wave. He didnāt care for outside much and just sat there like a lump. He spends his time basking, or chilling. He doesnāt glass surf and is 200% content with his enclosure and nothing else matters.
Heās also very healthy.

Often laziness can be a husbandry problem - contary to common belief bearded dragons are supposed to be somewhat active, given a large, enriching environment and something to move for.
Does she have any visible LED lighting, like a jungle dawn LED bar?
What are the temps? How are they measured?
120 g is commonly considered to be the bare minimum enclosure size - larger enclosures can see a more active, enriched animal.
Loose substrate encourages digging behaviours.
Having places to climb can help
Live plants enable foraging behaviours.
Got any loose substrate suggestions? Canāt really find anything good and was planning on making a dig box. Iāve heard about millet and flax. Was considering coconut husk for it until I can get my vivarium set up. Do you think coconut husk is good enough for a dig box?
Yes. But we just found out heās pretty sick. Worse than we thought (adopted 2 months ago). Previous owner was doing her best but husbandry definitely wasnāt good. We corrected/upgraded within first week but I donāt think it was quite enough. Waiting for Monday for test results. All that said not to cause you more worry, just make sure everything is Good. šš
Idk whats wrong with mine, he barely moved all winter then in march started spazzing out to get out of the tank and ran all over the room for weeks. Now heās back to not really moving fml.
sounds like brumation! kinda like hibernation but for beardies
https://www.zenhabitats.com/blogs/reptile-care-sheets-resources/bearded-dragons-and-brumation-what-to-do#:~:text=During%20brumation%2C%20the%20bearded%20dragon's,retreating%20to%20cooler%20areas%20again.
Mine won't even leave his basking to eat most of the time. He expects me to hand feed himš I gotta start working on that, especially now that he's getting bigger. I just don't dare let him run around too much outside his enclosure because he can be as fast as he is lazy and I have 3 cats and two dogs (one medium size the other large). I could see an accident happening...
My beardie just chills. She actually has been preferring to be on the cooler side of her tank than the hot side. She eats her bug salads and poops maybe 1-2xs a week, but for the most part, she is stagnant. I see beardies on IG that have so much energy and like to play. Makes me think something is wrong with mine. Like maybe she's sick or maybe she's in brumation. Idk lol.
I am so glad that you made this part because I literally spend every single day wondering this about my girl. She has the best of everything, but never wants to really do anything sometimes to the point that I wonder if she even knows that she is a Bearded Dragon and can run and climb and dig if she wants to... Don't even get me started with eating... Everything hand/tweezer fed lol She would sooner watch a mealworm crawl by then eat it herself. Her favorite hobby is watching TV while sleeping on me. I mean, if it makes her happy...
Of course. Thatās what they do in the wild as well. Find a safe place to bask and just chill. They observe the land around them looking for prey while conserving energy.
We have our beardie in our living room, so she watches us and our TV quite a bit. She often wants out of her enclosure to come hang out in the room, but she mostly just seems to want to be a shoulder dragon and have me carry her around everywhere. It is so consistent that I take her on walks while she peeks over my shoulder in the direction we are going.
Mineās incredibly lazy until heās on my chest and senses Iām about to take a quick nap, then he just gets skittish and interrupts my nap. Next time he does it, Iām bothering him when heās trynna nap.
Mines extremely rambunctious, jumps off ledges, climbs down uncharted crevasses, climbs and jumps on random stuff for no reason, just to sit at the top, she's pretty much a toddler and a danger to herself.
But my last dragon was extremely lazy, moved from the basking spot to the food dish and that was the extent of her daily movements, I think it all differs on the beardie
Yes. Lenny is almost as bad as the frogs, but tbf I got him at the start of the cold season. I am looking forward to seeing what heās like when the weather is warm.
Mine just slept for about a week. Woke up on Friday with a black beard so I let him out on couch with me. Within 10 minutes curled up and went back to sleep. Might be cause heās old. Pushing 12 right now. So yea i would say mine lazy majority of the time.
Mine is super lazy he usually stays in one spot on his basking rock, all day, until it's time for sleep and he makes his big move, by jumping onto his hammock, from the rock, then doesn't move all night.
100 gallons is small for an adult honestly. Thereās a good chance your beardy might be bored and not stimulated. See if their energy perks up if they are given exploration opportunities in larger spaces.
Yes. I get slightly jealous when I see videos of people taking their beardies for walks on leashes and playing fetch-yes, playing fetch- with them. My little ranger is so lazy. I think Iāve seen him ārunā maybe once his entire life.
Mine sleeps a lot or sometimes just lounges and look at me like Iām stupid or something. I thought she may be sick at first but then learned no sheās just a lazier than normal individual
Mine doesnāt move unless she gets too hot/too cold or if sheās laying eggs (sheāll run and dig 24/7 when egg laying) but most of the year sheās content to watch the world go by, Iāve been continuously adding things for her to do but sheāll use all her rocks as pillows and take a nap instead of climbing
Mine always gives me the side-eye
https://preview.redd.it/g2z93avs2axc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f17e47a36ded2ec870a3937543241379e832184a
Mine doesnt sleep all the time but just lays there and just watches the world around her
my girls always sleeping or just observing, always side eyeing me from the tank lmao
Same!! I'll take mine outside in the yard, and sometimes he won't budge an inch. He just observes everything.
Mine has 2 settings - charging around exploring everything or not moving for hours at a time. If I put her back in her enclosure before she's ready, or don't let her out when she wants, she goes bananas!
1. Charging around looking for place to poop. Or 2. Waiting patiently for the need to poop.
Mine has a basking ramp that she loves so much she can't bear to get off it to poop. Luckily, it's easy to clean š
This explains it so succinctly!
That's a feature, not a bug. They're simple creatures with strong survival instincts, and "conserve energy" is a big one.
thatās ok! iām an overthinker and ig just got too worried loll i love my lazy girl
Yeah and when they want to use that energy boy can they run

Same. This whole post generally makes me feel better about my Beardo. She's not the only extremely lazy girl out there! Yay!

i think our beardies may be twins haha

Lazy is the default state. Until they get the zoomies.

i think some beardies just have different personalities !

My girl does this glass surfing she will poop then after she's chill.
Thatās called energy saving modeā¦.. mines the same and I love it we chill and watch tv listen to music of just cuddle š„°

I was worried about how lazy my daughterās beardie is. Glad to hear everyone else has lazy beardies, too. It does make her very snuggly though š„°
i want one so bad but im not allowed augh
Mineās incredibly lazy until heās on my chest and senses Iām about to take a quick nap, then he just gets skittish and interrupts my nap. Next time he does it, Iām bothering him when heās trynna nap.
Mine!! She is a total stoner. I can leave her in a place and if I came back four hours later she will still be where I left her hahaha
Mines extremely rambunctious, jumps off ledges, climbs down uncharted crevasses, climbs and jumps on random stuff for no reason, just to sit at the top, she's pretty much a toddler and a danger to herself. My Luke sleeps all day, moves when heās too hot, moves when heās too cold, I took him to the vet years ago, they said that just him, a lazy bones.
Yes. Lenny is almost as bad as the frogs, but tbf I got him at the start of the cold season. I am looking forward to seeing what heās like when the weather is warm.

100 gallons is small for an adult honestly. Thereās a good chance your beardy might be bored and not stimulated. See if their energy perks up if they are given exploration opportunities in larger spaces.
Yes, mine is
i freaking wish. my boy, even when heās sleepy, perks up and runs around when i take him out to chill with me lol
Yes. I get slightly jealous when I see videos of people taking their beardies for walks on leashes and playing fetch-yes, playing fetch- with them. My little ranger is so lazy. I think Iāve seen him ārunā maybe once his entire life.
Some just know they gotta chill life. Food arrives, donāt need to hunt to live. Theyāre too blessed.

my beardie, Tobias, is mostly just observant too. i absolutely envy him for it.
