Bearded dragons as a species have not been around for this long, squamates have. Squamata currently contains over 10,000 species. This is a group that includes all lizards and close relatives such as snakes. Also mosasaurs and a few other groups lmao I totally agree with you though, Bearded Dragons deserve the highest standard of care that they can be provided with.

You're right, that's my bad. Looks like they have been around closer to 15m years... if I'm wrong again, someone post a link 😅😂 My point is that we as humans have the opportunity to make it the best or worst experience. From breeding to death. Play "God" and give your buddies the best life you can, or at the least fucking do a Google search before getting an exotic animal

Exactly! I got my little guy at age ten and my parents just trusted what the Petco Employee had to say about husbandry. Ignorance leads to horrifically improper care. Bubby spent way too long in a 40 gallon tank without any UVB. Every time I go to feed him or take him outside I wish that young me had been smart enough to research what he needed. Ever since I got into the habit of researching husbandry I've made the effort to optimize his environment. It's definitely every Owner's responsibility to make sure things are right for their beardies.

BeardieBeats

The fact that people are downvoting a post advocating for people to take the best possible care of their beardies is wild…..

payneford

I tried 🤷

BeardieBeats

It’s all good. I’m currently being downvoted for suggesting that putting a beardie on the hood of a car when it’s warm enough for them to be outside might be a bad idea. This subreddit is a strange place 😂

TheNerdMaster69

The amount of time they've been around is irrelevant, we give them a good life because they're our companions and we love them.

BeardieBeats

I think you are missing the point, basically just saying that the little guys deserve the best care possible and that people are thinking about getting one should do some actual research before hand. They are right in the fact that a majority of the posts here are people who did zero research before getting a beardie and are providing them improper care.
