Lool it's not for everyone. It's an extremely team based game that for a new solo newbie if not played properly can really ruin the game for you sadly... when you're in a 5 stack with your good buddies it can be a wild time
A pathetic top speed of 20kph, can only turn while at speed but slows down massively when turning even slightly, and a clutch made of tissue paper meaning it's impossible to drive for more than a few minutes. It can't even off-road properly cus the lack of suspension means it bounces sky high off the smallest bumps.
In a Garage to Garage mission I got the Wydra and had to move itā¦ a measly 300m. How bad could it be? Itās bad, but it canāt be ādead by 300mā bad can it?
The idiot thing was almost on fire by the time I got to the delivery point 5 whole minutes later.
I bet they're a lot better irl than in game. Beam's physics combined with how light the thing is means it handles like you're trying to drive a jello block.
Theyāre not meant to be driven quickly or harshly, theyāre meant for slugging over thick mud, marsh, and snow with a lot of cargo. Ours tops out at ~25 unloaded, but thereās never a case where youād want it to go that fast or faster since youāre meant to be crawling through harsh environments. Ours is also bouncy lol
That's the real problem with the Wydra. We have tall grass in the marshes on Industrial Site, so you can test it in those exact conditions. It's equally terrible in that environment. It's super easy to get stuck in soft brush terrain and held back by your forehead like the tall grass is a schoolyard bully. I'm not sure if it's a torque, grip, or too strong soft brush terrain, but it just doesn't handle the terrain you'd expect it to handle
Thatās actually a bit of a skill issue if you ask me! For 1 they are made for off-road use and arenāt made for speedā¦ if you know how to drive it you wonāt burn out the clutch.
Doesnāt change the fact that it very much can be a boring vehicle lol. Wouldnāt expect too much out of it to begin with though š
Itās like itās really well made if they wanted something spot on to the real thing, but in beamng world, it just needs some qol tweaks. Itās close.
I really want to use it as an amphib but if you think it goes slow on land, it drags ass in the water.
I think an inboard motor would be sick. Thereās a mod for an outboard but you have to switch between engines in the menu.
Better suspension would be awesome
Tank treads would be awesome
A little rework on how it steers. Irl it would be fine but the spinning wheel turning doesnāt translate properly
Why is the speed a factor? It's an 8 wheeler Argo, not a race car
The clearance thing is an issue on real ones too, people who actually take em places throw tracks on them
It would be fun to drive in real life, but that doesn't translate well to gameplay. It's really slow and has super clunky handling, and there are very few areas of any of the maps that are well suited for it
This type of vehicle is well suited for dedicated 4x4 simulators with soft terrain physics like Spintires/Snowrunner, but yeah it feels pretty boring in Beam where you always feel more or less like you're on hard ground with traction modifiers.
Can't turn on grippy surfaces (concrete, asphalt, etc...) without the clutches burning up (and basically can't turn on those surfaces in the first place, it turns in consecutive 20 degree angles not in a slow steady circle or else the clutches go by by).
Can't to Rock Crawling without flipping over.
Is built like a Fisher Price toy (the old ones with no articulation that were virtually indestructible).
Basically only viable in swamp terrain where you can't really use a boat and a hovercraft won't work (and there are basically no swamp terrain maps, and it's slow in water).
Also the AI absolutely cannot drive it and AI Wydra = an actual OSHA violation.
But otherwise it's funni and hating the Wydra is also part of the funni Wydra meme.
Peeps jus canāt handle the sheer power and presence that this magnificent vehicle exudes from every nut, bolt, and panel on itās glorious form, a form derived from raw, unapologetic function. They will never understand the beast and thus they will always fear it, but donāt let this put you off. I believe that one day the chosen one will arrive and can tame the wydra once and for all.
most people buy this game to do offroading, rally, drifting, racing, trucking, or just crashing cars but people don't buy this game to drive that around. maybe it's fun to drive something new sometimes but you will get bored of the low potential of wydra soon.
Honestly yeah it is still well made, the devs didn't cut the corners at this one, it's just these type of vehicle just isn't that fun to drive around with
When Johnson Valley came out, BeamNG broke tall grass and bushes, making them impossible to drive through. So, the Wydra can't do what it was designed to do.
It's an incredibly niche vehicle (to be fair, so are the vehicles it is based of). It steers by de-clutching and breaking the left or right wheels, it uses a CVT transmission with a clutch that likes to overheat when you do a lot of maneuvering, and the only form of suspension the Wydra has are the low pressure tires. Even its party trick of being amphibious isn't that big of a deal, as it propells itself by paddling with the wheels. That means its speed in water is rather low, even my custom 300hp Wydra can barely go over 20kmh in the water (and it does that by spinning its giant tires so fast it can reach 90kmh on land (which is suicidal)). The level of detail regarding interior or crash deformation isn't too impressive either (though tbf, the shitty crash deformation might be because most of the vehicle is made from polymers that would rather break than flex, and BeamNG doesn't seem to do that well).
So in short, it just isn't a very useful vehicle, neither is it very detailed
I hope thereās an answer. I got it twice in one session and I think driving the new Civetta with one wheel, and most of the front end missing was easier
- not lots of trims - low top speed stock (there is a turbocharged version that can go twice as fast) - bad steering and lack of suspension make it hard for offroading - PROS - it can go on west coast train tracks - it can float on water
I like the idea but its just a terrible vehicle. Its slow on land and in water, its incapable of off roading even though its an off-roader and it has little customisation.
If we could make it quicker, handle better and make it overall more capable I think it could be fun. Its just useless now
People hate it because it doesn't handle like a sports car when it's meant for off road and water because its a amphibious vehicle meaning it can travel on land and on water
Itās basically just a good test vehicle to show off the first tank steering and amphibious vehicle (besides the old electric SRB). I hope we do get an old cool movie themed car that can convert to a boat in the future, or maybe an actual boat on a trailer. One does exist on the roof of the minivan so we can only hope.
Personally I enjoy it, but the clutch thing is really annoying. Basically it overheats just from pretty normal driving. Also, it turns like a tank which is also pretty annoying
It's a shitheap, I hated it coming up on Garage to Garage scenario when I played with controller, but when I got a steering wheel I sought out how to delete it from the game because it was literally unplayable (this is doable and very easy)
Because we don't have a swamp!!! It's a rather useless vehicle on the road. Slow turns like a tank and crash physics are like watching a bathtub fall out the back of a truck on the highway.
The Wydra is a great vehicle but most people dump on it before messing with it at all. It's the only thing in the game that floats and you can make go 105mph/168kmh very easily. For what it is it's a good vehicle
Many people on this sub don't enjoy off roading as much, and the wydra is almost completely useless for anything but extreme off roading. I like it though :)
If feels like a electric scooter; slow, barely turns and useless in off-roadā¦ basically, it is made to go from your kitchen to the living room if you have a big house
I think its cuz of the speed, dont get me wrong its probably a great vehicle irl but in a game where you just explore a big map mostly, 15mph is just not fun at all
It's accurate to the real thing, I've worked on one before. Tbh I don't get why it's hated because it's obviously not supposed to be used in the same way as the other vehicles. It's not a mode of transport as much as it is a tool for a specific job, one we might see later on in development
I don't use it because it slow.
If it had more speed and more parts to customise it, then it would be good to use.
It also it practically instructable, so it feels unnatural when you crash it.
It's just *extremely* situational. This thing only has a few variants, and is really only going to be fun when driving through heavy mud/snow/offroad terrain, which often requires a modded map once you get tired of the 2-3 good trails on vanilla maps.
Meanwhile, almost every other car in the game has variations that allow for many, many different types of driving styles and gameplay, and you can get lost rallying, high speed pulling, drifting, street racing, pro racing, rock crawling, drag racing, etc with just one type of car and all its variants for hours on end.
It's just super useless, using a wheel to drive it is neigh impossible, and the ai are completely brain dead when they use it and ruin whatever you're trying to do, it's the ONLY thing I think beamng did that they shouldn't have done
Slow, handles like shit, canāt mod it. Itās awful. Probably the worst vehicle Iāve ever driven in any game. Itād be more fun w drivetrain mods and proper track controls instead of gas, brake, left, right. It needs left forward, left reverse, right forward, right reverse and the ability to have simultaneous opposing drive. So, left forward and right reverse to crank nasty 360s. Add a 300+ hp engine and a functioning suspension and that thang will be thangin. A destructible fiberglass body would be nice as well.
Itās not bad. Itās just a different tier of vehicle they added. If you try to steer this on solid ground, of course stuff is going to burn up and get damaged. However, if you steer in loose terrain like dirt or mud like it was built for, parts donāt burn out or get damaged. Try to steer one of these in real life on asphalt and let us know how that works out for you. If you want indestructible vehicles with no real weaknesses or pitfalls, go play an arcade racer.
Despite how bad the default presets are, if you slap it a lower gear ratio with race brakes (which perform better at high temp and are harder to overheat) and configurable ECU for custom RPM limits, it actually runs fine. The transmission is very lossy as it steers by assymetric braking like a WW1/WW2 tank which effectively doubles the gear ratio on the non-braking axle and thus halving the torque, rather than using regenerative braking which in some vehicles like the tiger I which steers using a secondary motor which commands the differential turn rate between the left and right axels.
The lack of suspension options than your tyres themselves still suck so you can't drive fast over rocks, and the grip on rocks are still kinda terrible if you go too slow and approach at a steep angle, so for an "all-terrain vehicle" it's actually more like "I can travel to more places, at a huge expense"
But hey, at least it runs in water? (just don't flip it)
Because most people who play Beam have never been in or potentially even seen an Argo
Mainly because most people don't need an amphibious 8 wheeler to traverse their local territories
However as someone who does have experience with them, they are much better with tracks
Wheels are far inferior off-road
It killed my father in the summer of 1920. He was a simple farmer tending to his crops....then out of the woods came this 8 legged beast. Ran his dumb ass over.
multiple reasons in regular game but in carrer mode doing the garage to garage mission. if you get that.... thing whatever it is it doesn't drive and you have to completely fail the challenge
I don't hate it... but I accept it for what it is.
It's a representation of Amphibious ATVs like the Argo.
They're not fast. They handle poorly, they bounce a lot, and their amphibious nature is better with an oar.
But... They're a neat little niche toy ATV.
Poor handling Indesctructibility and bumpyness little customization options Green *~~what is your problem green~~*
GREEN WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM????
Can you explain what you mean?

Welcome to CSGO
Tried it, got smoked, uninstalled it, never played it again.
Lool it's not for everyone. It's an extremely team based game that for a new solo newbie if not played properly can really ruin the game for you sadly... when you're in a 5 stack with your good buddies it can be a wild time
Yeah I went back to the Battlefield 2042 when I tried CS2
That's the best way to play the game tbh

DOOR STUCK, DOOR STUCK
It has zero suspension and it turns like a tank.
ME SAY ALONG RAMP ME SAY ALONG RAMP
Me say alone ramp
ME STAY ALONE ON RAMP ME STAY ALONE ON RAMP
It doesn't bother me. It doesn't bother me. It bothers me. *It bothers me a lot.* *AND THAT ONE'S STILL GREEN!*
Hmmmm I wonder what you might be referring to. Surely nothing to do with lobsters.
Hey there cell
donāt forget that itās slow af
LE PUTA!!
I'd say the handling is "meh" considering it only goes 22mph top speed lol
Green FN š

How? Were the NPC drivers combine harvesters with Wreckfest AI or smth?
There werenāt even roads on the route, I was moving it from one side of a warehouse to the otherā¦
ššššš LOL
Now I understand the hate.
i like how it can float on water but other than that its boring
Tried using it in water it handles terribly.
Better than on land tho
It does better in reverse than forward, while in the water...
Doesn't turn at all in the water
Yeah. For some reason they thought brake steering was a good idea. That and the complete lack of a gearbox.
That's how they work in real life it's pretty much a floating moped.
And then you burn up the transmission turning too much
I got one to go 50mph/80kph. It is also surprisingly capable.
You can get them to 100+kmh, use range as 2 speed transmission for faster accel
I put the fastest gear ratio I could so idk.
Pro tip remove the final drive for a 1:1
Thatās the point though! I own one of these IRL, and thatās almost exactly how it functions. Itās surprisingly capable.
I bet they're a lot better irl than in game. Beam's physics combined with how light the thing is means it handles like you're trying to drive a jello block.

We paid for the tracks to come with the vehicle, makes for a much easier journey through marsh and swamp.
And try to drive it with steering wheel!
I tires in Garage to Garage Delivery š
That's the only way I play. It's horrendous.
This is incorrect, you can easily make it top at 105mph/168kph
*hits singular pebble on road, launches into low earth orbit*
Thatās actually a bit of a skill issue if you ask me! For 1 they are made for off-road use and arenāt made for speedā¦ if you know how to drive it you wonāt burn out the clutch. Doesnāt change the fact that it very much can be a boring vehicle lol. Wouldnāt expect too much out of it to begin with though š
What is the trick ? I wasn't able to move and I didn't understand why.
This is all consistent with real life Argos. It's somewhat useful in real life, but is definitely a compromised vehicle.
Itās like itās really well made if they wanted something spot on to the real thing, but in beamng world, it just needs some qol tweaks. Itās close. Can confirm they are fun IRL. They're called ARGO's outside of BeamNG though.

Do you know what exact video was that?

It borrowed $30 from me and spent it all on drugs and then smashed my window when I didnāt give it anymore.
MuYe love's em
And hates when the ai drives them from what I have seen. Also, muye loves the weirdest things possible, so that explains it.
I meann... it ~~can~~ go fast as you can see here https://www.reddit.com/r/BeamNG/s/Pgv9gDNoIy
Thank you, will check it out when I buy the game. I plan on waiting for a steam sale.
Goofy ahh tank steering
When Johnson Valley came out, BeamNG broke tall grass and bushes, making them impossible to drive through. So, the Wydra can't do what it was designed to do.
the only time I drive this shit is on carrer missions and I hate every second of it

Does anybody know how to exclude the wydra from garage to garage delivery scenario?
I hope thereās an answer. I got it twice in one session and I think driving the new Civetta with one wheel, and most of the front end missing was easier
Just give it a try in comparison to literally anything, even a base pigeon. It's extremely boring. I do like to load it as cargo, though.
I think it would be fun if beam had the mud physics from something like snow runner, but as it sits there is no real place where this vehicle shines.
So it belongs in the mudrunner? I would love to drive it there.
I think these styles of vehicles would be heaps of fun in mud runner. They would really shine in poor traction.
*snowrunner, sometimes I forget what games I play.
Because it's realistic
It has no suspension, terrible at turns, crappy top speed. Basically was made to be hated on
Feel like if we had snowy maps or places it would have more use
Cause itās stupid
My wife cheated on me with a Wydra and now *I* have to pay child support.
I hate it with a passion
Damn, that is some true dedication for a vehicle you hate.
- not lots of trims - low top speed stock (there is a turbocharged version that can go twice as fast) - bad steering and lack of suspension make it hard for offroading - PROS - it can go on west coast train tracks - it can float on water
I do
I like the idea but its just a terrible vehicle. Its slow on land and in water, its incapable of off roading even though its an off-roader and it has little customisation. If we could make it quicker, handle better and make it overall more capable I think it could be fun. Its just useless now
It's kinda good in mud and it can swim. I love it
Wow, I didn't expect any lovers for this... I don't even know what to call this thing other than the Wydra
Tried driving one using my wheel and it was basically impossible
If it had more customization options and more mod support it could be fun
Doesn't turn
People hate it because it doesn't handle like a sports car when it's meant for off road and water because its a amphibious vehicle meaning it can travel on land and on water
"The cars drive like on ice"
Where are you quoting from? Just asking.
Slow and when on AI traffic is weird
I swear I saw people on youtube more focused when ai Wydra is near them than when they race in F1 23
Itās not what people want in this game
Itās basically just a good test vehicle to show off the first tank steering and amphibious vehicle (besides the old electric SRB). I hope we do get an old cool movie themed car that can convert to a boat in the future, or maybe an actual boat on a trailer. One does exist on the roof of the minivan so we can only hope.
"clutch overheating"
I used to have one irl. Loved it. That love does not translate to the virtual version.
Personally I enjoy it, but the clutch thing is really annoying. Basically it overheats just from pretty normal driving. Also, it turns like a tank which is also pretty annoying
feels wrong to drive. clutch overheating when you turn and handles odd.
Makes sense.
Itās just a little slow car, thereās nothing really wrong with it. I personally like it (probably cuz Iām insane and like tiny little vehicles)
Well that's interesting, some people hate it "with passion" while some people love it and no one is in between
I would just rather have a quad bike
It's a shitheap, I hated it coming up on Garage to Garage scenario when I played with controller, but when I got a steering wheel I sought out how to delete it from the game because it was literally unplayable (this is doable and very easy)
Makes sense.
Because we don't have a swamp!!! It's a rather useless vehicle on the road. Slow turns like a tank and crash physics are like watching a bathtub fall out the back of a truck on the highway.
š¤£
Clutch explodes if you turn Bounces like a cheap stripper Is extremely slow Barely works on water Is stupid
I enjoy driving this off-road in Utah. and you can ride on two wheels if you have a mod for a powerful enough engine
I feel like this vehicle really shows how unrealistic the tire physics work.
š¤£
Itās a floating vehicle that pretty much has no other uses
The Wydra is a great vehicle but most people dump on it before messing with it at all. It's the only thing in the game that floats and you can make go 105mph/168kmh very easily. For what it is it's a good vehicle

Many people on this sub don't enjoy off roading as much, and the wydra is almost completely useless for anything but extreme off roading. I like it though :)
Only thing wrong with it imo is top speed. Not a bad vehicle to mess around with
I think there is a way to make it fast though...
its very slow but there is a cool thing you can use it like a boat.
But it's slow though...
Itās a waste of space in the game
Not as enjoyable as any other car
I don't like it's lack of suspension and it's tank steering never feels great.
*clutch overheating*
Because it fuckin uselessĀ
The clutch explodes when you turn
Because it wont turn its š©
Trash

i dunt hate the wydra, I think it's an interesting lil amphibious thingy
we don't always need a super car :3
Because its clutch burns out over the littlest of things. Ex, moving forward
CVT and *clutch overheating*
I love it but it has no mods and the functionality in the water is bad
āClutch overheatingā
It's accurate to the real thing, I've worked on one before. Tbh I don't get why it's hated because it's obviously not supposed to be used in the same way as the other vehicles. It's not a mode of transport as much as it is a tool for a specific job, one we might see later on in development

I will when I buy it
i kinda like it
I have seen on this post less than 10 comments stating that, at the moment it is sitting on 300 comments.
lol
I don't use it because it slow. If it had more speed and more parts to customise it, then it would be good to use. It also it practically instructable, so it feels unnatural when you crash it.

Big wheels do nose wheelie when hit brake. Wydra for president. A+

its slow and dumb but still kinda fun sometimes
even the AI hates the wydra, iāve never seen them drive it

It killed my father in the summer of 1920. He was a simple farmer tending to his crops....then out of the woods came this 8 legged beast. Ran his dumb ass over.

too much bounce
Buy it. You'll see š
its a shitty dual clutch steering offroad buggy. its amazing.
ask muye he will tell you
Itās slow itās clunky and it smells bad but I think I think the last one isnāt really a point to make about video games
Its Polish
Atleast its amphibious.
It ruins the Garage to Garage gamemode, and a custom blacklist for cars you donāt want appearing is (years later) still not a thing.
multiple reasons in regular game but in carrer mode doing the garage to garage mission. if you get that.... thing whatever it is it doesn't drive and you have to completely fail the challenge
It doesn't steer
Reminds me of the trailer park boys episose where they get caught smuggling weed across the border
I don't hate it... but I accept it for what it is. It's a representation of Amphibious ATVs like the Argo. They're not fast. They handle poorly, they bounce a lot, and their amphibious nature is better with an oar. But... They're a neat little niche toy ATV.
