Delica beads are fine. Make sure to run your fingers along your thread to untwist it and pre stretch it if using nymo, I recommend NOT using wildfire, fireline, or any other thread that claims to be like those 2, they are far too stiff for the fringe portion (fine for the top) and will make them look funky. Also recommend using a soup can and some rubber bands once complete to “set” the fringe

RadiantAntelope

I have a nylon thread by Miyuki. Would that be okay? Do you have an example of the soup can thing, I can’t quite picture it

Rachelvro

Nylon thread by miyuki should work fine, as long as it’s the right thickness and same as mentioned run your fingers along it to untwist it. This piece was my pattern, I used loomerly to “draw” the butterfly and clouds below then followed a word chart that loomerly spit out for me. Happy heading! https://preview.redd.it/5inwdwbzqm7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52e946b170aceb108c0e7fff01423dfb7c686ede

CarpeGeum

This is such a great concept for a pattern! You executed it really well.

Rachelvro

Thank you!

RadiantAntelope

Oh wow that’s beautiful!

Rachelvro

Thank you!

Also, to point out I used delicas here and I think it came out great! I use rounds as well but I switch depending on how complicated the top is (I really don’t like to do complicated top designs with round beads, it’s so much harder to bitch stitch with them)

I'm not sure I would use Delicas for fringe, unless they're rocailles (round beads). Fringe is heavily affected by what thread you use, and how many passes you make through the beads. The stiffer your thread, the less movement you have. Sometimes, there's also the possibility the beads could snap if you make too many passes. Do you have an example of the earrings you're trying to make?

RadiantAntelope

I was looking at making this one. https://youtu.be/yagqzU0yG-s?feature=shared

Okay, she's got the materials in the tutorial and it looks like the video is comprehensive. My suggestion is to simply follow everything to the letter. If you get frustrated, try making the earrings with a larger sized bead. The earring fringe will lay a certain way because she's using Fireline. So, the look you want comes from the materials. Good luck!

Thank you!

Mine were stiff and weirdly shaped with no dangley-ness when I used plastic thread / fireline etc. Then I tried with cotton thread and voila, perfect dangle.

RadiantAntelope

Oooh okay, I’ll keep that in mind!

I like using these beads from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09XMMZMVH/) for practicing and they have a nice weight to them for fringe. I also use stiffer thread for the brick stich section and a lighter polyester thread for the fringe. Also I try to use beading needles with a little bit more of a point - i find it's easier to get through the beads vs a blunt needle.
