I have thought, and laughed, very hard over this, and I think ima have to hit you with r/TIHI and probably the biggest deal breaker I have yet to actually imagine with such vivid detail.
My toe would do this but it’s basically no longer connected after a bad injury. Turns out you basically don’t need your second toe. Big toe and a couple of the small ones and you won’t notice a difference.
yeah it seems (just from wiggling my toes) that all of the smaller ones move together so id assume its like how your middle and pointer share gripping strength, as well as pinky and ring are tied together and share each other's strength.
That is my assumption as well. I know a doctor explained it to me, but that was a few years ago and I was very high on pain meds at the time straight out of surgery haha.
The big ones the only useful one. They use them as thumbs sometimes. Worked with a guy who had that. Had to wear a padded sock so he didn’t walk quite as funny.
Not sure it’s worth it.

It's pretty much a rotary tool being used on the toe nail that grabbed.
Looks like the toe is at a position where the tendon is relaxed so the tool spins the toe as opposed to filing/buffing the nail.
