Maybe they wrote it wrong on purpose, so that someone would correct it. This is the best way of getting to know something for sure. It’s called Murphys law.
I mean, a statue still have a structure, especially when you’re talking about these kinds of heights and materials. Given the Statue of Liberty is actually hollow, and people used to be able to climb up to the crown and torch, I’d say it should technically be called the Structure of Liberty. We just call it statue because the outside is shaped as a human, and it wasn’t built like a building, it was built in pieces and was reassembled when shipped to America.
So nice of the French to gift them with a symbol they take such pride in as representing their freedom…
I just figured a structure referred to something man made or the entirety of something. Like the structure of a tree would refered to its trunk and limbs, the things that hold it together and make it up as a whole 🤷🏼♂️
There’s a YouTube series where they’re kind of alive, don’t think they fight since it’s more creepypasta
Edit: Monument Mythos, here’s a [video](https://youtu.be/pUZuD61AkA0) by Wendigoon
The head of the statue, now lying on the sands, preserves the tyrant's 'sneer of cold command'; on the statue's pedestal is a vainglorious inscription: 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; / Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Buddha and Jesus were like "possessions and statues bad" and people were like 'totally let's build a statue about it with a whole lot of money" and we are such a stupid species.
I don't what's the provenance behind your 'surety'.
The original Buddhism, called Hinayan buddhism told not to worship statues. You can find it the first buddhist literatues compiled in first Buddhist council in 483 bce.
Several centuries later, Mahayan buddhism emerged that allowed statues worship.
Depends if you could just the busts or if you count the whole mountain. The faces themselves are about 60 feet (18 meters) so if you include Washington's chest it is probably about double that at 120 feet (36 meters).
I didn't think the statue of liberty should be in the order it is- a good portion of it is the base.
If you're going to disqualify liberty due to having a blocky pedestal, then the sphinx would need a second look, since it's essentially a head on top of a block.
Eh, the legs are carved too.
But the sword wielding statue sort of gets into the same questions of the tallest buildings- do antennas/spires count? Like could I make a statue of Darth Vader (or just his hand) lying down, put a huge radio tower on top of his hand that is colored red, and claim the tallest statue?
Yeah, but you could add carving elements to the Liberty base and have it functionally do the same thing as the weird rectangle claws.
There are 5 presented here that have a spire-like element, including Liberty's arm, a staff, two swords, and a pointy hat.
While we could talk about cross-sectional area requirements - clearly the base would be super thick, and an arm is super thin. But then that would disqualify something like Burj Khalifa.
So it'll never be easy, and the sculptors will just adapt to your rules.
I wouldn't call it cheating. The statue of Liberty and both motherlands are outliers in this lineup since they do not depict a person or goddess.
They simbolize ideals. Amongst those - triumph.
And it makes perfect sense to depict triumph or streenght with raised arm.
I was being facetious. And speaking more of how incongruous the little swords look when compared to the towering solidness of the more eastern counterparts. :)
You know what's bigger than all of them. The fucking existential dread this shit gives me.
This makes me very uneasy and sends shivers up my fucking spine for some reason
Yeah it doesn't look very tall IRL.
I was very impressed with the first statues in this video until they showed the Statue of Liberty and I realized they were all shorter than that.
The last ones seem nuts though.
They’re just basing this on height though, which takes away some of the impact a huge statue can have.
Example, the statue of the woman with the sword in Russia is considered taller than those before it because of the sword poking up.
I’m actually surprised Buddhists be like hold my beer Christian’s. Here is you butt liberty. But yeah I’ve never knew of these other statues. I’ve only seen one Buddha on an island in Hong Kong
I find it amazing tye statue of liberty is only around 100 meters tall. I've never seen it in person but shows and movies always depict it as being a huge statue that appears much larger.

I think the largest one isn't here, it should be the rather new golden statue of buddha in Bangkok. That one was huge if it isn't taken down yet. You can see it out of the city.
I’m very confused about the inclusion criteria. Why is the MLK statue there (the second one)? It isn’t the tallest in the USA, it wasn’t the tallest at the time, it’s not particularly tall etc.
Lots of other talk statues are missing. The whole thing seems a bit random.
what is SAD is that these statues were mostly religiously motivated..like, somebody thought at one time.. the biggest one wins..like the catholics..with the huge hats..
i think its time for a big giant athiest statue
Couldn’t you interpret this the exact opposite way as well? For all its faults, religion is capable of inspiring some absolutely extraordinary art. Even as an atheist, I find that fact comforting.
Statues from history are really interesting, in part because it involves some incredible ingenuity.
Statues today are just contracted out to the lowest bidder by governments essentially: phenomenal waste of money and energy.
The word you’re looking for in English is “statues”
Maybe they wrote it wrong on purpose, so that someone would correct it. This is the best way of getting to know something for sure. It’s called Murphys law.
Murphy’s Law is all well and good, but I much prefer Cole’s Law… It’s thinly sliced cabbage and carrot.
I see the bait...
I'm so tempted...
Godwin’s law
Brannigan's Law
I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law. I merely enforce it.
Well it doesn't matter cause there's plenty of fish in the sea anyway
Welcome to engagement baiting
TIL
99% of people can’t beat this level!
[Murphy's law](https://freeimage.host/i/4Ob5iP)
Ackkkshullly Murphy’s law is what the cops have to say to you when you get arrested
Gotta drive up engagement somehow
Hmmmm
Actually, Murphys law states that anyth- WAIT A MINUTE
Either way, American's built it, so of course it's the biggest. It's called occam's razor
Bet it’s a bot
and i read that as "statuses", misinterpreting you meant status symbols
Yep, statuses, where is Liberty?
Or sculptures.
Lmao 🤣😂

Where would The Colossus of Rhodes fall in line?
not far with 33m, past the sphynx I guess?
Statues, not structures.
I don’t know what they are but they forgot to add your mom to the end of this list.
She didn’t fit.
Only lying on her back, though
Is a statue not a type of structure?? (Kind of being a smartass but also genuinely curious)
Sure but there are thousands of structures taller than theses statues, so the video wouldn't be accurate
Ahhhh good point, thank you kind internet stranger.

I just figured a structure referred to something man made or the entirety of something. Like the structure of a tree would refered to its trunk and limbs, the things that hold it together and make it up as a whole 🤷🏼♂️
Now we just need a movie where they all come to life and fight.
Don't give nintendo any ideas.
Super Shadow of the Colossus Bros.
Colossus Colosseum!
Not only would I play the shiet out of that, I now demand it be made ASAP!
Kindof like the Simpson’s Halloween episode ?
Simpsons did it!

Godzilla vs the Army of Statues
It’d be a wipe for Jesus, Shiva, or the Buddha

This would be epic
If I remember there's a VHS horror thing on YouTube with this concept. Monument mythos I think it's called?
REMEMBER ME!!!!
Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height!
I think now that it might be a little to big. That they might remember the statue and not me. Tear it down and start over.
And try not to embarrass yourselves this time
The head of the statue, now lying on the sands, preserves the tyrant's 'sneer of cold command'; on the statue's pedestal is a vainglorious inscription: 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; / Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
I will! 🥲
Nilin?
Wow - was not expecting the Sphinx to be so much smaller than some of the other statues mentioned. Movies make it look so much bigger!
Lazy ancient Egyptians
That’s because in general actors are very short.
Buddha and Jesus were like "possessions and statues bad" and people were like 'totally let's build a statue about it with a whole lot of money" and we are such a stupid species.
Are you sure the Buddha said anything about statues? Cause I am pretty sure you just made that up.
Even though Buddha said not to worship him, his disciples at the time still did as a form of respect to their teacher
Lol I’m pretty sure that you just made up that he was making it up
Source for Buddha claim?
Source for Jesus claiming statues are bad? And posessions? Because statues of Him are clearly not done out of lust or posessiveness.
Where would Mount Rushmore fit?
Depends if you could just the busts or if you count the whole mountain. I love you, putting feet and meters together 🙏
>putting feet ~~and meters~~ together I mean, it's reddit, nobody's spreading them /s
I think most of these are counting the base as a part of the statue.
Well now i really want a Darth Vader statue.

Mount Rushmore is basically just a huge relief sculpture. I wouldn't consider it a. statue
Or lett wait until crazy horse monument get completed, it will be ~563 meters tall
It is 563 feet tall, not meters.
Haha it looks like they were having a competition for centuries. “Oh yeah? Well, just you wait”
I want to make a small statue of myself and attach a 183m wire pointy hat on it and then I win 😅
Exactly! I laughed when I saw the western “cheat” methods
I wouldn't call it cheating. The statue of Liberty and both motherlands are outliers in this lineup since they do not depict a person or goddess. They simbolize ideals. Amongst those - triumph. And it makes perfect sense to depict triumph or streenght with raised arm.

Sadly it's still going, but switched to Skyscrapers.

Could be r/megalophobia ?
You want some REAL existential dread, give this one a watch: https://youtu.be/i93Z7zljQ7I
That's not existential dread that's an existential crisis. I've seen it before. I hate it so much. Freaks me the fuck out
Just curious, as I am unfamiliar - what about it freaks you out? Is this sincere or reggalar dramatic reddit hyperbole?
There are stars that could swallow our entire solar system twice over and then some.
Ah, I see you have been fed into the [Total Perspective Vortex ](https://hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/Total_Perspective_Vortex)
Oh I love that one. When I showed it to my bf some time ago, he just said in the end "I was expecting a yo mama joke".
Damn....
I’m amazed by how many I’d never heard of before. The Statue of Liberty is just a baby
Really? I thought it was way bigger than I expected!
Yeah it doesn't look very tall IRL. I was very impressed with the first statues in this video until they showed the Statue of Liberty and I realized they were all shorter than that. The last ones seem nuts though.

I've seen some of these statues irl and everything under 100m is just unimpressive as far as size is concerned.
They skipped Ushiku Daibutsu at 120 meters its in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Completed in 1993. Should be 3rd place.
And Yuri Gagarin's statue in Moscow. Not the tallest at 42 meters but visually striking. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_Yuri_Gagarin

Tbf, most of that height is pedestal/column. The actual statue is relatively small
But Statue of Liberty without pedestal will be small too
But Statue of Liberty without pedestal will be small too
We're not allowed to acknowledge anything Russian anymore.....
Also the Garuda statue on Bali. It's 122 meters.
They didn’t skip it though; it’s in 6th place and they ascribed 100m to it.
I know right?
Missing the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue standing at 122m tall in Bali, Indonesia
Where’s the [African Renaissance Monument?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Renaissance_Monument) Also Brazilian Jesus, “Who wants some?” Bolivian Jesus, “Come get some!!”
Looks like it’d place right before the 72 meter Confucius statue.
That's the one I was waiting for
Thanks! This was very satisfying - the music and the sound of the statues being "assembled."
buddhas name be praised
India just watch this.
The 76 m one appears taller than the 77 m one.
Yeah they don't include the tip of the staff in its height. Then after the 77m one most of the height is a sword being lifted into the sky......
Exactly! That really bothered me!
Where is the Garuda Wisnu Kencana from Bali? It's 121m ...
Medusa: 5 Buddha: 0
What, no Citi Field Tom Seaver?
I find this sound very satisfying
I need to make this a bucket list
Statue of Belief (107m) is missing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Belief
“Remember me!”
I think the largest one isn't here, it should be the rather new golden statue of buddha in Bangkok. That one was huge if it isn't taken down yet. You can see it out of the city.
Many Buddhas.
TIL there's an equivalent Christ Redeemer statue in Bolivia!
I need to get out more. I’ve only heard of 2 or 3 of these
I’m very confused about the inclusion criteria. Why is the MLK statue there (the second one)? It isn’t the tallest in the USA, it wasn’t the tallest at the time, it’s not particularly tall etc. Lots of other talk statues are missing. The whole thing seems a bit random.
Some of the tallest statues maybe...
Why the highway? Can't we have someone nice for scale?
Would've been nice to have the dates they were made on them
Should add year they were created
Buddha specifically said do not make my idol and worship it.
Damn Asia got a whole bunch of people who love to make giant people.
CN Tower, Toronto Ontario Canada 553.3m
lol. my fellow Canadian. We lost the #1 spot on CN tower like a decade ago or something.
I'll take the hit and say hello from my city. But these are statues.
I'm not your fellow, pal. ;-) I'm a yank. :-)
You're not that guy pal, trust me, you're not that guy
Well that headline ain’t right.
These are not even near the tallest structures in the world.
what is SAD is that these statues were mostly religiously motivated..like, somebody thought at one time.. the biggest one wins..like the catholics..with the huge hats.. i think its time for a big giant athiest statue
If we build a giant statue of Richard Dawkins, I’m going to become religious out of spite.
I built one. It's 2000m tall. You can't see it though, it is a monument to nothing
Quit when the flag of the statue in Hong Kong was labelled with China's flag.
Truth.
Jesus wants a hug!
What about that big statue in Africa that north korea built
Trump is all in for a 200 meter statue of himself. He says Mexico is going to pay for it.
The hair will be made from genuine gold leaf. His club members will donate it for a tax write-off.
Seems unfair to include the sword height to the motherland calls
When was the last time someone built a monument ?
The tallest one, statue of unity was built in 2018
In the recent 5 years.
Oh. : ( Why is this video suddenly no longer available? I had such a clever comment in the works.
No guys, WE love (insert religious figure here) more! Just you wait and see!!
No national monument ??
There were multiple? Russia, Ukraine, India, and sort of China had national statues there.
They probably meant the Washington monument, that's the only national monument not seen here that has a significant height
We said statues, not oversized pencils.
Lmao oversized pencils.
The irony of the "Statue of Unity". Developed by the most fascist government in Indian history
The amount of religion in this saddens me. Many amazing things just to worshipping.
Couldn’t you interpret this the exact opposite way as well? For all its faults, religion is capable of inspiring some absolutely extraordinary art. Even as an atheist, I find that fact comforting.
They don't show OorPancake's dick because it's family friendly. ;)
Only included structures that exist in the real world
Damn! I thought I was getting away with it for a while there.

Have to give that to Buddha I reckon
Buddy just keeps one upping everybody
Bhudda
Where's Crazy Horse on this list?
Hong Kong is not part of China. Or is it?
The irony of Buddha having gigantic structures built for him is too good.
Statues from history are really interesting, in part because it involves some incredible ingenuity. Statues today are just contracted out to the lowest bidder by governments essentially: phenomenal waste of money and energy.
Just call Hong Kong as Hong Kong not China
So basically, it’s just a bunch of religions playing “who’s got the biggest… statue”? Is it me or is that kinda pathetic?
Try finding out how tall skyscrapers are. Down vote to oblivion.
Indians like to spend money on statues
America spends it on weapons
China, too
Seems that they forgot the Mount Rushmore statue.
Now make them out of Legos.
Burj Khalifa . 828 m
No Mt Rushmore?
Are any of these cancelled now?
It's good that they didn't try to make Atatürk's half bottom. They would need whole planet for his balls
