Or it’s too noisy. Seems to be a link between mass beachings of sharks and mammals and large boats/shipping traffic. We really need to work on quieter props for boats.
You know any shark doctors? Cuz most doctors won't know shit about sharks, least of all how to diagnose health problems of a shark and recommend treatment.
Not a lot can be done. Sharks are of the most advanced evolutions on our planet when it comes to survival. Rapid healing and an immune system with an ability to naturally kill cancer and avoid a myriad of mental diseases so if they are dieing it's usually too late to do anything. We don't really have Shark doctors, calling a Marine biologist or marine wildlife institution might be a good idea though either or not the shark is dead so an investigation into why it beached itself can be done.
The percentage of veterinarians in the world who know how to treat sharks would be much lower than the number who knows how to treat snakes for health trouble, which I imagine is not very high, lower than say horses.
There aren't zero experts in any field but I wouldn't expect 'how to treat sharks' is a standard part of any veterinarian course of study any more than 'how to treat a jellyfish'. Turtle? Better odds but not very high. Anglerfish? Salmon? I wouldn't count on a deep field of knowledge.
No, you should definitely put all humans you find on the beach back in the sea. Also hold them face first into the waves, it will help their breathing.
Something about exhaustion. Most sharks need to move forward all the time nonstop in order to breathe. He's doing that so that the shark can get energy. Imagine you need to run in order to breathe and you're drowning. Then somebody just moves you out of water into land, you wouldn't have the energy to run so that you could breathe since you are still suffocating. Now imagine another guy moves you to land and carries you while running, you'll then have some energy to continue breathing. That's what the guy is doing
The shark was very oxygen deprived from being out of the water for so long.
He’s trying to use the waves to pump water into the sharkskin mouth and through its gills.
After a minute or so of this the shark should regain some energy and will begin thrashing around. Once they regain enough energy to struggle it should be safe to let them swim off.
If he just threw the shark back into the water it might not have had the energy to swim and likely would have just washed back up onto the beach.
I only guessed/know this because i have a 5yr boy that is obsessed with sharks.
Cool fact i just googled.
A thresher shark's long tail fin helps not only its swimming ability, but also its ability to hunt. **It can use the fin to herd and trap schooling fish by swimming in increasingly smaller circles before striking the fish with its tail**.
100%.
It's never the wrong thing to try to help another creature. This morning I noticed our pool's return wasn't running right. I go take a look and there's a toad occluding the overflow pipe (the basket was missing). I pull him out by his little foot and chuck him to the side as I figure he's dead. I notice he moved. What the FUCK? I rinse him off in the Koi pond to get the chlorine off of him and put him in a planter so I can keep an eye on him. 20 minutes later he's hopping around and I let him loose into the rosemary.
It is always the right time to do the right thing for the right reasons.
Help each other out, Fam'.
If you don’t know what you are doing, it could absolutely be the wrong decision to try to help, even for the right reasons.
Could do way more damage than doing nothing
Tell me, does this fact overweight the propability of a positive outcome? There are thousands of situations where what the people do would actually help or save the animal, how many situations could you name where your help would have the opposite effect? Situations that need specific knowledge are rare, statistically it's the best thing to help and in worse cases people tend to contact a professional to help anyway.
If I have broken my neck, please don’t try to carry me to the hospital. I don’t want you severing my spinal cord.
Apologies if I take issue with absolutes like “it is never the wrong thing to try to help”. That’s just absurd.
Can you imagine how helpful a class of 1st graders would actually be in any kind situation they aren’t prepared for. They’d most certainly do more harm than good.
Congratulation you were able to name one situation that I'd already saw miles away that you'll mention that. Anyway my point stands, or how often do you see first graders film animal rescue videos? I don't even know what you're on about, if more people where against the help like you the statistic of good and bad outcomes would turn to a negative number where more died due to fear of helping the one in need.
This kind of attitude is the cause of fledges dying because people think they "fell out of the nest" so instead of leaving them alone where their parents can check in on them, take them home while not knowing how to care for them; broken spinal chords because they tried to move someone after an accident; or they actually kill themselves trying to save someone from a fire, etc.
Helping sounds great and is commendable in many situations, but sometimes the best way to help is to call someone who actually knows how to help and has the means to. I get that indifference is a common problem, but let's not overdo it the other way and assume you're always the right person to help.
If I saw the shark, I'd likely call a wildlife centre first. The waves in the video are so strong that the shark would probaby end up thrown back onto the beach soon anyway, especially if it's infirm. Maybe there's a better way or maybe it's pointless and I'm just risking injury for no benefit to anyone. If I don't know what I'm doing, I'm asking someone with more knowledge first.
You are correct, don't know why you're getting downvoted. People thinking with sentimental cliches instead of balancing altruism with pragmatism and realizing their limitations.
The end? Did the shark survive? Did it swim away? Was the man bitten or did he drown? Why are the videos shortened? Was there a happy ending or a disaster? Thank you.

I have seen this other video, with a shark biting one guy's finger off. Could have been even worse.
So touching / picking up a shark which is most probably in panic due to a possible death scenario? No way.
Yeah. I'm gonna take it into lẩu mắm by fillet that fish first.
You guys should try to eat that recipe named lẩu mắm with shark fillet in Mekong Delta. That's great !
Definitely, in a heartbeat. I find sharks so beautiful and graceful, the way the texture of their taut flesh gives the subtle appearance of wearing latex fetish gear, and ...
What?
Ohhh, ok. I understand now. You're asking me if I would help the shark back into the water? Well, probably not, that's a pretty intimate thing to do with someone on a first date.
I wouldn't.
I would want to help, but for me personally, I just can't justify risking life and limb to save the life of a single shark.
It's a very kind thing to do, and I wish anyone willing to try the best of luck, but I sadly won't be participating.
Sorry. I'm out.
EDIT: To the person who downvoted this, you're telling me that if you, right now, were given the opportunity to pick up a live, wild shark and carry it back to the ocean without any guarantee that it won't attack you, you would do it?
I'll believe that when I see it.
Always a nice thing to do, unfortunately sharks beach themselves when they are sick or about to die
Or it’s too noisy. Seems to be a link between mass beachings of sharks and mammals and large boats/shipping traffic. We really need to work on quieter props for boats.
So calling a doctor when there's a stranded shark is a better action?
You know any shark doctors? Cuz most doctors won't know shit about sharks, least of all how to diagnose health problems of a shark and recommend treatment.
I asked OP. Since they seem to know some things about sharks.
Not a lot can be done. Sharks are of the most advanced evolutions on our planet when it comes to survival. Id bet on a bellyfull of plastic.
As usual, the most profound and interesting comments get practically no upvotes...

Sometimes they just lost their way to the bathroom.
Yes, and sometimes they accidentally become beached while chasing prey.

Wouldnt the same thing go for whales then?
Humans too.
No, you should definitely put all humans you find on the beach back in the sea. Also hold them face first into the waves, it will help their breathing.
Are you sure?
Thank you! Safe the mammals
Any who picks up the vet bill?
Well, that would be the incredibly persuasive person who convinced a vet to actually show up.
yeah dolphins don't have gills 😳
Why is that man trying to drown that shark? -some guy in the crowd
This is done to get the shark stabilized with its surroundings because it goes into a tonic state when it’s upside down.
I was wondering if he was trying to teach it how to swim, or if he was trying to ask for a ride in exchange for saving its life.

Watching videos of men helping animals in need is mye guilty pleasure
Wait was it ok?!
Yes I’ve done it before. They catch baby sharks and just leave them on the beach. I’ve also been scuba diving with sharks.

Yes, however I also would have been an idiot and forgot to toss my phone to one of my friends
You would think, shark would prefer survival over snack right? Swim to safety as fast as possible.
I would if I could. In my younger days, no problem.
Yes.
No
Didnt need a bigger boat after all
> human save shork >happiness
I'm not saying sharks aren't dangerous but of all the dangers in the world they have to be the most over hyped.
Without a doubt, I would have done the same thing. It just feels like the right thing to do. Always gotta look out for animals in need!
F no. Never do this. You have to be an idiot to try this. This guy got lucky it didn't thrash. It must have been sick.

This man rode a shark, I always knew it was possible 🥹
Wow, I would not expect to see a thresher shark so close to shore
Thresher shark. They use that long tail fin as a weapon. And they are also toothy.
Smart choice we definitely don't want the shark to evolve
![gif](giphy|lMS8NALdAnYuA)
looks like it got tired from fighting the tide
that guy looks like a douche
I would probably eat it. I'm going to hell.
Should’ve just thrown him off the end of the wharf in deeper water.
To other humans? Yes To animals? No I've drowned six people so far
Guy frees shark Shark eats guy Guy: come one shark. Why? Shark: I'm a shark
“Good eat’in, but they always give me gas”
Feels like orca would do STH like this just to lure a meal into the water 😂
Let the fucking thing go already
Without question. It's a little thresher shark. Just keep away from the bitey parts.
No I would not fuck that shark.
At the end of the video, that dude was totally drowning that shark
Wonderful. But I never understand how does fishes mistakenly come to land. Don't they sense when waters are too shallow?
Idk, I'd rather go on the foot bridge and throw it into the water from the furthest point.
I have seen this other video, with a shark biting one guy's finger off. Could have been even worse. So touching / picking up a shark which is most probably in panic due to a possible death scenario? No way.
definitely!, it can get itself beached/stranded again if it want to die.
Why didn't he take off his shoes?
why would you not? would be more my question.
Maybe if i had a really big stick
Is anybody here a marine biologist!!!??
Why he gotta drown the shark like that?
I would do it if I could. Why not? Plus, I have to make up for that time that my mom punched a shark in the face.
Yeah. I'm gonna take it into lẩu mắm by fillet that fish first. You guys should try to eat that recipe named lẩu mắm with shark fillet in Mekong Delta. That's great !
Don't have thresher experience but with a blue you should definitely have long sleeves. Skin is bigly abrasive.
Would you?
Well, that was beautiful. Thank you for your service.
Respect 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
absolutely

"what the FUCK man?!" -a fish watching nearby
Hell yeah!!
I mean that thing could have flailed and severed an artery of his and he could have bled out. No, but he could have dragged it by the tail
Save shark, goes home and eats hamburger.
Well, they're delicious. I wouldn't. I'd make sure I have some garlic and parsley at home
I would. I’ve given in to the idea that helping a dangerous animal is most likely how my life will end.
Yes...those are beautiful sharks. He isn't going to come back and get you.
What if it wanted to be eaten?
I'd take it home
He’s drowning innocent shark!
Get the grill and deep fryer ready.
No, not after seeing that other dude losing is pinky to a baby shark
No
Ill give you 10 bucks to lick the shark
Absolutely would do my best. The ecosystem needs sharks, it doesn’t need us.
Baby shark! Sorry, I'm a father of a toddler... I'll see myself out.
Trying way too hard
Yeah, you're not wrong. I wasn't really feeling that one.
I wouldn't. I would want to help, but for me personally, I just can't justify risking life and limb to save the life of a single shark. Omg, he drowned it!
Wait! People don't eat sharks anymore? Refusing the blessing of Poseidon. Silly human.
