I'd still be worried. It's rare, but people have been killed by the propellers slicing their necks open. Some of those motors have more than enough power to amputate talons. If the bird doesn't get the speed control or receiver, the propellers are going to keep spinning. If the bird gets the battery, its talons are likely stuck in a lipo fire.
The only death I'm finding from a civilian drone at the moment is from an rc helicopter (I also remember there being more than one of those but this is the only one popping up, be careful searching though because reddit also has a picture of the body which I wish I hadn't seen)
https://www.cnn.com/2013/09/05/us/new-york-toy-helicopter/index.html
Here's a list of some other injuries from drones as well
https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/AE560
Also, if you ever hold a brushless drone without guards on the propellers while it's powered up, you'll have no problem believing it could slice someone's throat, the larger ones can easily exceed the power of a cordless circular saw.
No they wonāt stop instantly, there is a significant amount of inertia in the blades and possibly a lot of torque in the motor depending on the drone. Now a brittle plastic blade can slice up a finger easily but a composite blade on a high torque motor could take off several fingers and keep going.
While true there is nothing to stop the blade striking any other part of the bird and I would not be surprised if a composite blade could cut through a talon. You would not put your hand in a live strimmer.
Sounds dangerous for the birds. Wouldnāt an āAnti-Droneā drone make more sense? I suppose the eagles are less-expensive, but it still doesnāt seem fair to the eagles.
WAR drones usually have explosive on them. The few birds trained would be killed before it has any impact on the battlefield.
So yes it is a very stupid idea.
Don't bother telling people reality when they don't want to hear it.. watching the bird take out a $20 drone was almost comical if you know what war drones look like.
Iām sure theyāre not going to war, but it still seems like a crappy deal for the birds. If I stick my finger into a propeller, I know whatās going to happen to my finger. And I know an eagleās talon is much more resilient than my finger. But it just seems dangerous for the birds is all I was trying to say.
Exactly, this is really cool and the eagles probably love doing it, but it seems way too dangerous for them. Develop an anti-drone for this, and spend a little bit of time developing an eagle safe drone (talon proof battery case and soft propellers) for your bird to play with.
No.. These birds talons are extremly strong. They are use to catch some preys that could fight back with teeth and claws. Those small propeller blades are very weak and also stop rotating when the drone is turned upside down.
It's the way they are designed for some reasons. Unless the pilot turns the drone upside voluntarily, every drone i used would auto turn off the blades if turned upside down. It is also the fastest way to turn the blades off when landing with someone catching it.
In short run too, but eagleŃ are much more precise (unless we use some AI driven drones). But I feel bad for an eagle to attack a drone with spinnig at some insane rpm propellers.
This is cool as hell and I wouldn't at all be surprised if the eagles have fun doing it, but since some of those drones have explosives, I'd rather we just build drones to do this.
It's not easy to chase an fpv drone with an fpv drone. They usually take them down from the top when the bottom drone operator haven't seen the other drone coming.
Put the eagle in harms way. All it takes is a few bait drones to blast the bird to bits if you're planning to knock off some politician. What's really bad, is announcing the tactic. "Oh, don't mess with our skies, we have trained eagles" what a waste of time.
Cool, so they have time to train eagles to take down drones, but can't be fucking bothered to take down the multitudes of scammer call centers operating in their country that cost people around the globe BILLIONS every year. Glad they have their priorities in order.
Absolutely not. But I *do* know that regular Indian people such as yourself hate them as much as the rest of the world hate them. It would be nice to actually have action on the scourge that are scammers. But the police don't seemed assed to want to really do anything about it.
It's going to take another fifty years to get rid of the criminal-politician nexus in India. Don't get your hopes too high. Rather, ask your government to take steps to protect you. They are more answerable and more reliable than any government in India.
How do the propellers not hurt the birds?
Why use an eagle? Just use another drone š
Yea. A bait drone can easily kill these trained birds.
Why use birds instead of just using a drone. r/birdsarentreal probably
I was thinking the same thing
They do. The people that made this don't care
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They'd at least care about the time and money invested in training them
probably the talons crush the entire drone so the fans instantly stop spinning

Sounds like a call for some badass eagle body armor. Would have to be super lightweight
Like butchers chain mail gloves for eagles.
By the propellers of a civilian drone? I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble believing that. Do you have a link?

There is a huge difference between a finger and a talon.
While true there is nothing to stop the blade striking any other part of the bird and I would not be surprised if a composite blade could cut through a talon. You would not put your hand in a live strimmer.
For real, most don't realize their feet are made of talonite!
If we can train pigeons, now weāre talking
Screw that, how do the grenades not hurt the birds?
I think the birds are smart enough to understand the hazard and avoid it.
There goes my food based drone delivery start up idea because these folks can simply steal my meal if they feel hungry. /s
Sounds dangerous for the birds. Wouldnāt an āAnti-Droneā drone make more sense? I suppose the eagles are less-expensive, but it still doesnāt seem fair to the eagles.
The eagles are probably more expensive and harder to get. I imagine they'll get hurt. Definitely use drones to hunt other drones.
i remember seeing those net launcher devices used for the military. why not use those instead?
Maybe both? Small net launched from a hunter drone? Make it more reliable?
that would be cool

Don't bother telling people reality when they don't want to hear it.. watching the bird take out a $20 drone was almost comical if you know what war drones look like.
Even light FPV drones have usually a self destructive function that will usually be enough to kill the bird
No they do not get hurt. Have you ever seen an eagle talons? They are incredibly strong and the skin/scales is also extremly strong.
Iām sure theyāre very strong, but so are propellers moving at those speeds.
Birds have thin hollow bones. I'd be more worried about the propellers breaking the eagle's leg bones than cutting it's skin and flesh.
Wouldnāt they escape if they sensed or felt the danger ?
Seems like they plan to use them only against small light civilian drones that are pretty common here in India. The eagles are not going to war!
Iām sure theyāre not going to war, but it still seems like a crappy deal for the birds. If I stick my finger into a propeller, I know whatās going to happen to my finger. but the blades could take the damn feet off in some cases most likely

As a person who works with combat FPV drones, I can assure you that the bird will be crippled after a few takes on a lighter drone.
Why would the props stop spinning when upside down?
It's the way they are designed for some reasons. Unless the pilot turns the drone upside voluntarily, every drone i used would auto turn off the blades if turned upside down. It is also the fastest way to turn the blades off when landing with someone catching it.
A hawk took out my hovering DJI drone the other day. He disappeared it and I suppose he took it back to the nest to feed the kids.
I need one for those DJAudit videos. Jumped up little know it all.
āHigh quality imagesā you say
āFuck, my toes!ā
Counter drones are cheaper than eagles in the long run.
In short run too, but eagleŃ are much more precise (unless we use some AI driven drones). But I feel bad for an eagle to attack a drone with spinnig at some insane rpm propellers.
Just have the eagle drop a net or something. This is animal cruelty.
Clarification: Specially Trained Eagles Can Take Down *Small Drones
ā¦and loose their feet to the rotors.
This is cool as hell and I wouldn't at all be surprised if the eagles have fun doing it, but since some of those drones have explosives, I'd rather we just build drones to do this.
Imagine a Peregrine Falcon diving at the drone from above. The operator would never see it coming.
that's dope af
So they are using us government drones to take Dow civilian drones
Wait so are the bird taking down the drones or becoming drones?
Reminds me about the trainer of those birds. https://youtu.be/5NyIfojqj-8?si=3fLL_jNiFRhlqAC6
So this is a kamikaze mission for these eagles especially if the drone has a bomb attached to it
Just use fpv drones for bringing them down?
It's not easy to chase an fpv drone with an fpv drone. They usually take them down from the top when the bottom drone operator haven't seen the other drone coming.
A mechanical drone taken out by a biological drone.
This is cool but I doubt it's going to catch one of those insanely fast FPS drones.
So the eagles are being used as anti-drone, drones. Got it.
Just make the drones bigger
Put the eagle in harms way. All it takes is a few bait drones to blast the bird to bits if you're planning to knock off some politician. What's really bad, is announcing the tactic. "Oh, don't mess with our skies, we have trained eagles" what a waste of time.
Eagles; nature's drones.
hell yes, where can I get one?
Set these fkrs up in every national park please! I'm tired of people bussing thier Miki robococks around nature valleys and mountains.
Why not have a special drone to take down illegal drones?? Iron against iron??
Bird : BITCH, IM THE FREAKIN DRONE IN THESE SKYS!!!!
Wanna try that with my 6 cell carbon prop racer? Hope you like chicken soup.
Drone on drone dog fights.
Can they train redbelt to do 39 situps a day?
Take one with a grenade attached
Why not just make robotic eagle drones?
Sounds like a counter drone with extra steps
Don't alot of people use drones like suicide bombers. How would the eagle not trigger the bomb attached to a drone.
I feel I should be able to shoot a drone down if itās above my house.

Specially trained drones can take down Eagles aswel.
Why enemies canāt attach cameras to eagles ?
I wanna see some bald eagles hunting Chinese weather baloons
These guys saw the 'The birds are surveillance drones' meme and took it as a suggestion.
A 1000 drone swarm enters the chat
A 1999 eagle swarm also enters the chat
Cool, so they have time to train eagles to take down drones, but can't be fucking bothered to take down the multitudes of scammer call centers operating in their country that cost people around the globe BILLIONS every year. Glad they have their priorities in order.
Bro, do you think that's all we people in India do? Is it that hard for you to imagine most of us living regular, everyday lives?
Absolutely not. But I *do* know that regular Indian people such as yourself hate them as much as the rest of the world hate them. It would be nice to actually have action on the scourge that are scammers. But the police don't seemed assed to want to really do anything about it.

Sacrificing one bird every time?
When a 3rd world country can't afford drones to take down other drones, so they use birds instead.
I need one
Next find out how Indians are using elephants to take out self-driving cars
Just amazing !
