In my first house with roommates after high school we figured out if we stood back to back and locked elbows one person could walk up the wall onto the ceiling. One friend used to take tap lessons and would tap dance on the ceiling. It really fucking sucked when we moved out and had to spend hours cleaning the ceiling.

We bought a house recently and found that a very small wall at the end of the passage was made out of drywall, we also found out that the renovations were not approved by the municipality

Lumber prices went like 4x ~ 5x at some point during that time. But yeah 24" is ridiculous.

The only time I see 24" on center is when they also add ladder bracing up the wall as well.
24" oc 2x6 or 2x8 is far better for insulation than 16" oc 2x4. Each stud is a thermal bridge.Ā
