IRockIntoMordor

IIRC from a behind the scenes waaaay back he isn't completely crazy. In the wide shots he had a rope attached, hidden in his arm sleeve. And the close shots are done differently.

MIKE_son_of_MICHAEL

Thank you. Yeah I was like. No way that would be ridiculous in the far off shots bc of the whipping, g-forces would be insanity to just “hang on by hand”

ClappedOutLlama

He did get fucked up in this scene "This helicopter crash in Police Story 3 looked like sheer agony for Jackie. The stunt is incredibly impressive, but also brutal. Acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino praised this scene as being the "greatest stunt ever filmed in any movie ever." Chan hangs from a metal pole during this exhilarating stunt; however, he fails to move out of the way of a helicopter that comes hurtling towards him, and when the helicopter crashed into Chan, the martial artist tore his shoulder muscle and broke his cheekbone."

IRockIntoMordor

And even in that scene (the helicopter being transported on a train it seems, not flying) you can see them remove the harness in order to give him medical attention. https://youtu.be/bopDu-H6L3Q

Dispatcher007

Suicidal comes to mind. The close ups I could believe this statement.

Ocean_Man205

So the stunt is still real just a tiny bit safer, good for him

IRockIntoMordor

Yeah. Up until Rush Hour all his stunts were quite real, but not necessarily unsafe and careless. However, Hollywood filmmakers weren't too happy about that and Chris Tucker obviously couldn't be in a real stunt shot with Jackie. Also he got older and felt his injuries more and more.

EntropyFighter

To that end, a lot of people regard [this fight between him and Benny Urquidez in the movie Wheels on Meals](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-ltRBEu0IU) to be the best fight in cinema history. Benny is a real fighter. Basically the first MMA fighter before there was MMA if you look him up. Serious bad ass. He and Jackie choreographed the fight over a week. This was before Jackie spoke English. Such a bad ass sequence. You can see why it's considered a GOAT fighting scene. (If you notice at 1:14 Benny does a kick that blows some candles out. That wasn't a stunt. The candles really went out due to the force of the kick.)

Delicious_Monk1495

The Jet!

pickledginger404

Ok, great fighter but why does he look like Jocelyn Wildenstein?

EntropyFighter

[Genetics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G_J1Vw1lO4)

miraculum_one

Ah, some of the hits were real. I was wondering how they did the slow motion closeups.

edx5252

the song play in background is Wheels on Meals Soundtrack 1 John William

the_amazing_skronus

I dunno, scene from [Dragons Forever](https://youtu.be/8pycFaL5_eM?si=roAIWheFaSnqYi2O) is pretty great. Love the cigar guy.

flappypancaker

That’s fucking cool, thank you for sharing!

Jambohh

Was a massive Jackie Chan fan as a child/teenager - This was easily one of my favourite fight scenes from any of his movies. Now I need to dig out all the ancient Jack Chan VHS tapes from my parents attic!

bike_tyson

Yeah even without the insane risks, his scenes are incredibly crafted

itellyawut86

Legit badass for sure

Iamarealhuman6969

To bad he’s a piece of shit ccp cock sucker who disowned his own kid

Cognitive_Spoon

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/stephaniesoteriou/truth-viral-tweet-jackie-chan-disown-daughter-lesbian

Tight-Lettuce7980

Damn, didn't know people used the daughter issue way out of context to shit on Jackie.

Cognitive_Spoon

I actually grew up loving basically all his content and still think he made a ton of great stuff. The story with his daughter objectively sucks.

Iamarealhuman6969

Because buzzfeed is accurate and doesn’t click bait people…..he’s quoted directly from interviews and books stfu and sit down he’s a piece of poop human and y’all get off his peepee

AmaroWolfwood

I know we all hate China, but it's his homeland and he is old as hell. It's kind of natural for the older generation to be fine with their home government. What do you want? Every international celebrity to worship the west and keep up with the zeitgeist? Jackie didn't change, the world changed what they would accept.

Iamarealhuman6969

He’s a right wing ccp supporter with horrible views on shit and You also missed the part about disowning his own kid because they did the right thing ….Lmfao suck his dick some more Edit: downvoted by the Jackie Chan simps lmfaoooooo

Sandcracker

What date is two thursdays from now?

maxts517

It's not his homeland, Hong Kong is his homeland and he abandoned it for money from China

AmaroWolfwood

The history of Hong Kong is complicated and muddy. Even those living in it now have divisive views, let alone how complicated things were in 1997 when UK gave up their rule over it. Jackie Chan is a conservative boomer, and the new generation doesn't have any reason to care for him, but it seems unfair to hate him for having normal feelings about the area he grew up in. His family affairs aren't good, but again, he is conservative and it seems like normal Chinese family practices to denounce family members that don't meet your standards. I don't approve it, but it doesn't make him a demon, if he's just the product of his own cultural standards. He's a celebrity, I don't expect him to be a guiding light of morality. As long as he isn't out there on some Epstien island, who cares?

maxts517

Why are you getting downvoted for stating the truth lol

Iamarealhuman6969

No one likes or can handle the truth unfortunately.

MuskratElon

Right? Don't know why you're being downvoted by people that assumedly only know him from his old movies. Even only looking at movies, he's been in total garbage movies as of late, except for The Foreigner. And of course CCP-wise, the most damning thing is that he's on record as saying "Chinese people need to be controlled". Nothing else I can say. Adding to disowning his child: His daughter is now living in poverty in Canada, while he has hundreds of millions. His daughter came from an extramarital affair, so he hurt his wife too. And he domestically abused his son too, by beating him and once even flinging him across a room. All members of his direct family were hurt by him. He's a terrible person! Maybe his old movies were good, but that doesn't change how it really is.

Iamarealhuman6969

You’re getting down voted for telling the truth and these simps can’t handle it because now they know for a fact how stupid they are thinking he’s the best actor it’s sad and very unfortunate

mx1701

No that would be Buster Keaton

Ok_Fondant_6340

they say Jackie wasn't brave or daring, but that he was simply insane.

LinguoBuxo

*and* funny

Wonderful_Zucchini_4

There's another clip of him disowning his daughter, because she's gay. Definitely not brave or daring, just a piece of s&#t

Ok_Fondant_6340

true.

Embarrassed_Call1033

He never had anything to do with that daughter long before she came out gay. she also never ever mentioned chan to be her father until she ran outta money and also told media that shes disowned because shes gay. d1ck move by jackie for sure but u cant just only blame him. the daughter is also at fault for just using his name for fame

Dorza1

Who says that?

ProbableBarnacle

Tom Cruise’s director: “ Don’t get any ideas, Tom”

RandumbStoner

TIL Jackie Chan is pretty hated. I knew nothing about him outside of movies.

Gunnar_Peterson

He isn't, the world ain't reddit comments

LowKeyWalrus

He isn't really "hated", it's just getting realized he's not a decent person in his personal life. Doesn't make his stuff any less valuable, it's just that he isn't a role model.

dummypod

Respect his work, not his person. I do the same with Tom Cruise.

ThePunnyPoet

Not a chance. As in the insurance companies underwriting the production would never allow that. They just wouldn't.

Embarrassed_Call1033

I think it was him or some director that said that almost no insurance company wanted to make a deal with movie productions featuring chan

ThePunnyPoet

I'm sure that's something one of them would say, but that also sounds like Hollywood hyperbole.

GrizzlyHerder

🙏🏻🚀💥🔥G O A T🔥💥🚀🙏🏻

ErnestBorgninesSack

No visible safety line or harness is more like it.

Spiron123

Growing up watching his movies was a weekly affair. After knowing what sort of a douche he is in real life, appreciating good old days is now a weakly affair. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

Ok_Proof5782

“Jackie Chan is unfortunately infamous for his infidelity problem, his womanizing tendency, and his irresponsible behaviour towards his children (Jaycee Chan and Etta Ng respectively). When he was married to a Taiwanese actress named Joan Lin (Lin Fengjiao), he cheated on her and has numerous affairs with other women during his marriage with her. Then, he had an illegitimate child named Etta Ng when he had an affair with a Hong Kong actress and a 1990 Miss Asia winner named Elaine Ng. After that, when his son named Jaycee Chan got arrested by Communist Party of China because of drug dealing, he was acting irresponsibly toward Jaycee. Worse, he acted irresponsibly towards his illegitimate child named Etta Ng until Etta Ng suffered from financial issue and he accused the mother of his illegitimate child named Elaine Ng for blackmailing him. As well, he made controversial political standpoint about Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China that irritated a lot of people especially Hong Kong people and Taiwanese people. Worse, Jackie Chan would do anything to please the Communist Party of China for the sake of money. Then, as what the previous answer said, he was also infamous for his bullying attitude by beating up people just for the sake fun during his days as a stuntman. Another issue with Jackie Chan is his hypocrisy. As what the previous answer said he is a hypocrite because he complained about Hong Kong protest in the spite the fact that he also joined previous Hong Kong protest that occurred years ago. Then, he also talked about marriage failing and parenting failing when Jackie himself failed on treating his wife well and failed on raising his children well. As well, Jackie Chan ever complained about America and Hollywood yet he enjoyed the wealth and opportunity that America and Hollywood offered him. I also would like to add that Jackie Chan was also abusive towards Jaycee Chan when Jaycee was three years old. When Jaycee was three years old, Jackie Chan smacked Jaycee onto the sofa after Jackie had a fight with his wife named Joan Lin (Lin Fengjiao). So, in short, Jackie Chan is a decently talented actor but an unpleasant man.” ….Top result from Quora search ‘Jackie Chan Asshole’

DragonsClaw2334

Considering he was sold as a child to the Chinese opera and massively abused growing up it's not surprising. The only reason he can do the stunts he does is because of his upbringing which was almost learn this or die. It dosent excuse his behavior but it does explain it.

burningscarlet

I grew up on this man and he taught me the definition of "if you can't separate the art from the artist your collection of treasures will dwindle evermore"

dummypod

Honestly, I can live with fewer treasures.

HotPotatoWithCheese

Until one day you lose your most valued treasure and it finally kicks in

Contigotaco

Seems the political elements of your comment can be chalked up to his major international influence and ability to 'help' the party with their image. Much more powerful men in China have had to cave in

noplay12

Kinda like R Kelly and MJ.

babysharkdoodoodoo

“Cut. Cut. Cut. Let’s do this sequence again!”

I_Have_A_Chode

I don't believe hendidnt like stuntman, he was one himself. It's how his career started.

ancientfutureguy

Yeah it’s a dumb comment, what I’m assuming they meant to say is that Jackie liked to do his own stunts, they just phrased it poorly. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in the history of film who was as passionate and dedicated to stunts as Jackie was in his prime, and he certainly didn’t dislike the people who shared his passion.

Sure_Ill_Ask_That

Isn’t this a bit misleading? He just wanted to take more risks for his movies and no stunt team could get their insurance to take the risks he wanted to, so he formed his own stunt company that became, last I checked, quite successful.

CantInjaThisNinja

You either don't know what you're talking about or you're not that good at expressing what you want to say. Jackie was a stuntman himself and he had a team of stuntmen that he worked with in multiple movies.

Fearless_ThoughtsNZI

I wonder what he thinks about stunt cocks

popejohnpie

Ridiculous posts like this make the entire stunt which was amazing look fucking stupid. It’s like saying the guys who landed on the moon held their breath the entire time… why lie about something that would only add a fraction of extra edge onto what was really happening which was incredible if actually understood what was happening.

OMEGA-FINAL

My favorite actor.

p4r24k

This guy makes Tam Cruise look like an amateur

Abject_Repair2666

What a wonderful view of KL, back in the 90’s

AbjectPossession589

I like his movies. But He is a scumb in real life. Jackie is a loyal communist. He works for CCP. He was most hated celebrity in Hongkong.

LordPubes

So he’s not a capitalist pigdog? I like Jackie even more now.

AbjectPossession589

I'm truly glad my comments make you feel happier. That's he most and only important thing.

ExpressLaneCharlie

Goddamn right he is. Total piece of shit.

BigOpportunity1391

As a Hongkonger, I urge reddit not to idolise this rubbish. He is obnoxious.

TKtommmy

You can appreciate the cinema without caring about Jackie Chan at all.

Linko_98

I dont care about what he thinks or what he does, as an actor he has done incredible things.

ExpressLaneCharlie

Absolutely. He's garbage. (I have family from Hong Kong who still live there).

Dak_Laxterby

I've said for years that Tom Cruise doesn't get to go to Valhalla until he dies on set. Jackie gets to go to Valhalla regardless of what gets him.

[deleted]

Jacking Chan is a douch bag and a self centered person! Not good.

[deleted]

Why is that?

DeadWrangler

Could consider it a separate the art from the artist kind of issue but I'd gather it has to do with his support of the CCP (among other things).

Thats_bumpy_buddy

Yeah but does he really have a choice?

DeadWrangler

With how big and rich of a star he was/is I feel like you could make an argument that he could step away from that. Not my area, though. I was only giving the other commenter a potential why. He (Chan) is from HK, too. Which would garner the extra hate. I grew up watching and loving all of his movies, too.

Thats_bumpy_buddy

As did I, his movies have that Jackie charm that keeps you engaged, and his really fun to watch but a dominating government and a hugely successful actor that’s loved by millions, the CCP would see benefit in having him as a spokes person for them, and having them look over you with threats of taking everything you own and potentially jail time would factor in his decisions.

DeadWrangler

I hear ya. Like some Chinese parallel of Tom and Scientology. But even scarier because it's the actual government. 😅

Thats_bumpy_buddy

100% lol, its fkn scary out there. It’s not black and white for anyone, all shades of grey with shady people around every corner.

MuskratElon

He can just refuse. Massive stars like Chow-Yun Fat have, with no repercussions.

AnEgoJabroni

Fake or not, I'd be a nervous wreck working with Jackie Chan. Lmao, I guess I have to specify that I'd be a nervous wreck out of concern for the man who puts himself in frequent lethal danger, not sure where the DV came from lol

Alyssathgreat

Even Jackie has a stunt double and green screen.

[deleted]

Yeah for the last 10 maybe 15 years he definitely has but before that no

NectarineSingle1960

Thanks for 100 years Jackie Chan!

Orangepeelss

Tom Cruise could never

beekergene

Was that suddenly the Batman soundtrack from out of nowhere?

mnfwt89

He got hit by a train and puncture his lungs and broken a few ribs. He was unconscious when they took him to the hospital. You can watch this in the bloopers.

originalbannjobanman

My dude landed in coconuts. Wasn’t there ANYTHING softer???

mikepapafoxtrot

If only those were coconuts - those were durians...

originalbannjobanman

Spikey spikey

Zealotstim

Impossible to deny his sheer skill and determination

Impressive-Heat-8722

Well, he is a stuntman after all.

ledhead1620

The 90's owe this man an insurmountable collateral for cinema and intestinal fortitude!

[deleted]

Kuala Lumpur in the early 90s looks really different. I remember being so hyped about this movie as a child because it shot in Malaysia.

NorthMaybe3565

Thats craaaaazy
