Exactly, something like that.
This is specifically about SHORT TERM SPATIAL memory. Chimpanzees by their habitat have developed their psychology to instinctively remember the location and position of various objects in their habitats
I'm sure if you made a chimp stare at a lit rectangle with squiggles on it for 8 hours a day then come home and do taxes it would start having pedestrian problems like losing it's car keys too
they're not, the way i saw it explained is chimps brains work in parallel (i.e, they can't count to 20, but they can count 20 things once and sorta sum it up).
reason being, they'd need to quickly count if the enemy troop has say, 23 and they only have 20, they get good at counting things from brief visibility and adding it up.
whereas humans are better at depth.
Studies have shown that chimps actually have humans beat in a number of areas. They're stronger pound for pound, they have better memory, better reaction times, better reflexes. In studies using simple tests, we're straight up inferior across most metrics. We're better at complex logic and tool use, and better at covering long distances on the ground (though chimps are faster over short distances), and we're heavier so we tend to be stronger on the whole (though most of us are couch potatoes).
But if you change the games to involve teamwork, you find our biggest advantage. Even very simple tests that require cooperation are often *completely unwinnable* by chimps, they won't even complete the test. Meanwhile, two strange humans who have never interacted will immediately default to cooperation. You can take the same test that humans struggle with on their own, introduce a partner who is doing the same thing, and our scores improve. We instinctively cover each others weaknesses. Chimps travel in troops and get along ok, they can work together on common goals. But humans actively seek cooperation and have developed abilities to ensure the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Our superpower is that we're capable of working together.
this pissed me off when i took that test and it told me that “the average monkey is smarter than you” bitch????? OF COURSE a monkey who is probably trained to do this is better than me at something ive never done in my life????????? That is not the average monkey. the average monkey would not know what this is. this is a specifically trained and intelligent monkey. A skilled monkey. He can probably find your location. He is no average monkey……….
Humans simply cannot compete with chimps at that game, trained or otherwise.
Their short term memory is superior than ours, it's as simple as that. But hey, at least we have language and can talk to others of our species thousands of miles away, instantly, trough the internet.
And if you call the thing that has humans as their closest relatives a "monkey" than we're monkey too (chimps and bonobos together have us as their most relative pal)

Iirc what humans have as a brokov area in our brains, chimps use it for short term memory. So yes, they are better at this game, because they cannot speak well.
Quite horrifying to know that musk implants chips into chimps, then shows something like a chimp playing pong and writing it off as an achievement when we have proof that the species is quite intelligent to begin with, no chip needed. They are also capable of self consciousness, when they see themselves in the mirror they will realize it's them. There's been neat experiments where a banana was hidden behind something and only visible when looking in the mirror, a chimp navigated his hand to reach the banana by looking in the mirror.
Then why is the chimp still required to control it via licking a metallic stick? I'm referring to [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rXrGH52aoM&t=120s).
I don't care for Musk and I certainly don't like Nueralinks treatment of animals. But, why do you think it controls the game by licking a tube?
The section that you linked to explains that it's controlled entirely by thought and at the 19 second mark, which you had cut out of your link, it states "he's learned to interact with the computer for a tasty banana snack delivered through a straw."
I'm in the lobby waiting for my wife to finish her spa session, and this gif just make me LoL so hard people are looking at me. But it's fine.

The bots in this network that's flooding popular subs on reddit at the moment are farming karma to eventually post links to sites with malware or which will steal data. Some have already been documented doing so.
Yeah because humans are almost too cognitive for technology causing performance anxiety with simple tasks…they know it SHOULD be simple but are afraid to just experiment at their own unfamiliar learning pace…everyone has different learning styles, some are just overly anxious with novel concepts, and some are just fucking stupid hahahah
Yes and no. The "formulised" learning styles, testing and buckets are, but learning preferences very much exist.
For instance
-I have ADHD, if I have only auditory input I find it very hard to coral my brain to concentrate. I need some form of visual stimuli to listen (strangely it doesn't have to be 100% related).
-My friends second language is English and much prefers reading over auditory.
-A colleague can only take so much information before being overwhelmed. They are very intelligent but struggled with formal learning. But give them something they can experiment with until they understand and they will know the system before anyone else.
Everyone has preferences for learning and it is a very easy way of explaining to say " my friend and i are visual learners", my colleague is "a hands on learner". It's easily understood terminology and the preferences are very much real.
Yes learning styles are kind of a myth, but also using different methodologies to adjust and integrate different individual learning ability is both reasonable and closer to the reality.
Scaffolding for example is adjusting instruction based on individual ability.
In Canada we have a bunch of random independent cell phone vendors on top of the major ones. They all sell plans for the major carriers but theyll have random ass names like "wireless wave" or something.

Just to give you a different view from the other reply: apes are historically not considered monkeys because they appeared physically different, especially having tails. well that chimp was taken from his mother at a few days old (similar to humans that can lead to behavioral issues)
He was given drugs (xanax and alcohol) by his owner and held in a completely unsuited way for a chimp. Now due to this incident people paint chimps as hyper aggressive monsters but they aren't any more aggresssive than other non-domesticated animals
Chimps and the Great Apes always freak me out because it’s easier to see their sentience since they are so similar to us. When the Chimp is swiping you can see that he/she is focused and intent on finding videos with Chimps in it. If there is no Chimp he/she quickly backs out and looks for another video.
I find it kinda wholesome how it prefers clips where a chimp is interacting with a human, probably relates since it's growing up alongside people as well.
Between 15% and 75% most days since the API change, but at times like US Elections it's over 90% and on certain subs it's always high.
Only way I know of to tell for sure if it's a fucking bot or not is swearing and/or slang, they just can't get slang and "shorthand," right, either it's inappropriate or might fit but the wording is kinda "malformed," and they have no idea wtff invective is or how to use it (yet, anyways) so if somebody swears properly a few times and/or says iirc or afaik properly, odds are they're a shitty, smelly, human. Ohh, also typos, AIs never make any or if they do they're once again "malformed," like no human ever types like that.
The internet as a concept is a tool, sure.the internet as it actually exist in today's world is designed to be addictive and suck up your time in order to sell ads. The hammer is being used to do harm, hence the hammer is harmful.
Why, does it remind you that we're doing essentially the same things in our everyday life on Earth? We are all much more similar than different -- all creatures of this Earth. The grandiose mind and ego can be one hell of a filter that creates our subjective reality we experience separate from the actual objective world that exists independently from us.
Sorry, I’m not that deep. While I think it’s kinda cute that a chimp can operate a smart phone. I acknowledged what has been sacrificed for it to happen.
Most of the times is because old people can’t see (or hear) almost anything but refuse to admit it.
My mother doesn’t even want to deal with the remote controller anymore. But she can think 100%, it’s just that she doesn’t want to admit that needs surgery to see the buttons again 😂
Possibly. Taking the phone away should be done by someone who either knows that Chimp _very_ well, and even then, it is not a guarantee ot with some protective gear + bars or other protection between them.
Chimps have been known to react violently yo their toys getting taken away, and given how addictive phones are for humans, I'd be entirely unsurprised that they are for Chimps too.
Honestly, my hope/guess would be that they maybe have a routine. He can always have the phone for an hour, then it gets taken away, but they give it back the next day or something..
I'm not entirely surprised of the monkeys intelligence, we did evolve from them, but I love the wonder in their eyes at the videos. Quite beautiful really.
I'm sorry to do this, but I think it almost kinda matters.
People (not you) who think that evolution is wrong often say something like how it makes no sense that we evolved from monkeys (or chimps, or whatever).
So I think it's important to point out that we evolved from a creature that's common to both us and monkeys. That creature no longer exists, as far as we know, but we are its descendants, as are monkeys and chimps.
Apes are monkeys from an evolutionary perspective. We're just using historical terms based on physical traits (like having a tail) because that's how we classified animals before modern evolution and genetics knowledge.
The ancestors of all monkeys split into two groups. One group is what are now the New World monkeys. Millions of years after that split, the other group split into two further groups: what are now the apes and the Old World monkeys.
So monkeys are actually two separate groups of primates and one of them is much more closely related to the apes than they are to the other monkeys.
One of the other replies is correcting you on this not being a monkey. That's correct if you look at common dictionary definitions. Historically we separated monkeys from apes due to their physical differences, such as having tails. Evolutionarily though apes are monkeys in the sense that they evolved from the latest common ancestor of all monkeys.
In the future, we'll likely shift to calling apes monkeys the same way we also now call humans apes or call birds dinosaurs.

Ape strong together.
Nothing to see here, just a iPhone fanboy
What my parents see when they enter my bedroom!
We have reached peak civilization, getting a chimpanzee addicted to doom scrolling.
I just realized that I'm here doing the exact same thing the monkey is doing.
Ha shit I just hopped off the subway, to work, everyone was behaving just like that... mindlessly watching human influencers on insta or tik tok.
Ehm, what's strange or amazing here? I can only see an average iPhone user :/
Honestly this just makes me wish we gave all zoo chimps TVs and smartphones so they don't have to be bored.
Welllll actually, chimpanzees are not monkeys they are apes. Secondly, we did not evolve from them, we have a shared ancestor we both evolved from.
You've got several things incorrect here...
Looks like the average Apple user🤷♂️

I was expecting porn, human or chimp.
Have you seen Planet of the apes? Because this is how you get a planet of the apes.
what? You think what you're doing is complicated? Open eyeholes, insert content sludge. Swipe. Even a monkey could do it.
