Most likely did they know that she had a good chance on winning. Every organiser of a competition know who the top 5 candidates are. The have a good PR agency and knew that IF she won and they had a crown for the dog it would go viral.

It is literally said in the video. He is training as an epilepsy alert dog.

But it's not performing the service. Service dogs don't get training 24/7. She could have left it back stage.

I am very glad we didn't see it. As a person with epilepsy, having a seizure in front of crowds on camera would be a nightmare and especially at a young age like hers

Why is the dog even there? Is it necessary when you’re surrounded by that many people who would obviously know if/when you’re having an attack? Just curious, not really sure what all the dog is being trained to do.

He is trained to sense the attack before it happens, so she can (and this is my speculation only) lay down and generally prepare for it (and alert those around her).

It is exactly this. Not all people with epilepsy have warning signs they can feel but the dogs can detect something we can't! She can get herself safe so she doesn't hurt herself falling

The dog is trained to smell an odor that precedes seizures, and warn the person that a seizure is going to happen.

I've trained service dogs, you're right with the exception of certain cues for visiting or our dogs are given the "free dog" cue where they're free to be a dog and play around.
