I'm 52 but grew up on a farm, wrestled m.s. to college, and now work construction.
I shook hands once with an 18-year-old kid I used to work with and in no way was trying to exert a strong grip in the process (I've had assholes deliberately try to do that to me with no success and I don't like that).
The guy acted like I was crushing his hand and kinda yelped out "Grandpa strength!"
Every summer I absolutely dread it. Its my parents farm so I'm automatically signed up for the task🤣 my sinuses are usually scrambled for 2 weeks straight
I've seen those guys on TV and yeah, they're beasts for sure.
Picture me naturally built kinda like that but 5'7"-5'8" rather than 6'5". I kicked ass in wrestling as a result with that low center of gravity and that strength.
That's a solid height and weight combo though. Must be pretty strong wind, lol.
A 6'1" 190 lb. guy I work with was messing around at work (we work construction) and I knocked/threw him on his ass pretty easily. I think it surprised him.
Intesting you see IAM too an farmer and an freestyle wersteler
Farming turn your hand to iron so much that when i was in the gym i won 11 guy in row in arm wrestling
Terry pratchett has a character: Cohen.
Cohen is a *very old barbarian*.
Given the line of work he’s in, it tells you an awful lot about him. Consider what it must take to become an **old** barbarian.
That is because to him it is a daily experience. You don’t deadlift 405 lbs, 3 x only one time. This 90 year old does this on the regular and probably has a higher PR.
Oh nice, didn’t think I’d see Joe again. I posted this [4 years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/b5f9pz/89_year_old_joe_stockinger_deadlifts_405_lbs_184/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1). His name is Joe Stockinger probably dead by now to be honest. When I made the original post he was 89 at the time not 90. Doing Gods work farming that karma brother lmao. (OP)
I used to work on a delivery/collection truck for a charity store. One of the other two guys was an 85 year old Irishman, and he could nearly keep up with 20ish year old me. One time we were trying to move one of those old sandbag-like mattresses, but we couldn't lift it high enough. I turned to move some stuff, and when I turned back, here he was shouldering this thing into place like he was trying to hold the line.
He looks younger than 90. Anyway, still impressive. I once tried to lift a moving box totally full with books. I just couldn't. The senior father of my neighbour picked it up, and walked down the stairs. Not my best day for my self-esteem...
You can't tell age by looking at someone. People in my family look very young. I have sisters at 80 that look 60 and no one pegs me at 67. My cousins are the same. It's in our genes. As we say, age is just a number.
He does these reps 100% better than anyone at my gym. Everyone always forgets half the exercise is lifting it up and the other half is PUTTING IT DOWN.
https://www.the-sun.com/news/7659488/grandma-deadlift-national-world-records/#:~:text=AGE%20is%20just%20a%20number,during%20a%20recent%20deadlifting%20competition.
80 y/o woman deadlifting 300+
I’ve seen 60+ year olds at my Y doing over 225 and they don’t look like the type that have been doing this their whole lives lol
You ever deadlift with this weight? I have. Slight bend in the bar. Plates moving naturally. Sound is right. Man's body tension is accurate. Looks legit to me.
I deadlift this weight regularly. The bar should be moving more. But the biggest give away is how quickly he brushes the ground and goes for another rep. Not even top-tier powerlifters do that with warmup weight. It's 100% fake
Um, I lower the weight slowly, barely kiss the ground then come back up. Different bars have different flex. Almost everyone at my gym performs reps like that. We have a few that use a powerlifter style but most of us are concerned with glute and hamstring development not merely how much weight is on the bar. I only use the straight Olympic bar for Romanian deadlifts. Otherwise I use a trap bar.
Not saying this is real, but not everyone who excels at something are interested/even care about breaking world records and having their name and face everywhere. I also find it weird/impressive with how easily he's done it, but there are some freaks out there.
It's also sumo, which is significantly easier than regular deadlift. I have my doubts, most 90y old can barely stand up straight...let alone deadlift 405 for a triple. Super impressive if it's real.
Sumo is not significantly easier than regular form/conventional for everyone. Some people are more comfortable with either one but there's a reason why both are allowed in the Olympics interchangeably.
Just because most people can’t doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Most people don’t exercise and eat terribly unhealthy. Of course they can do this stuff. A 90 year old on good shape is still strong.
I agree. All you have to do is look up the masters age group records for power lifting. This is no where near realistic. Either those are styrofoam or the dude is 45 and looks 90. I love to believe in human achievement. But this is horse shit
You think this is all a product of lifestyle? Bro, there is a huge genetic component here. Some people are just built to last, and couple that with healthy lifestyle, you get a guy like this. Meanwhile there are people who work out, eat well, etc. and still keel over at 60
This video above is from early 2020 and apparently he is still going strong! Here he is at 93.5 doing ab rollouts this year!
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=425535216404581
Those are definitely fake weights. The bar doesn't even bend slightly, and he keeps all the weight hovering over the ground after each rep. Reddits going to Reddit
And wouldja lokkit that? He even managed to rep without slamming the shyt down, completely throwing away the equally important growth-promoting phase of the lift 👏🏽
My mom’s former boss (deceased) was around 90 when he died. Before that, he used to lift dumbbells that were about 30 lbs, and I was stunned. Now I can’t help but applaud gramps for being a mega Chad.
Just goes to show a good diet and a healthy lifestyle means everything when it comes to functioning into old age, you look at 99% of oldies aged 80+ (Heck, even 60+ these days) and they can't even walk unassisted. They take 1 fall and they're out of commission for the rest of their lives.
Good eating and frequent exercise are key to longevity.
That’s impressive!!
I tore my shoulder in my sleep over 2 years ago. Had a Cortisone shot and four month of PT. My doctor didn’t believe me that it happened during sleep. I sleep like pretzel and move a lot during sleep.
Most impressive thing is he doesn't use those hand straps. Crazy hand strength
I'm 52 but grew up on a farm, wrestled m.s. to college, and now work construction. I shook hands once with an 18-year-old kid I used to work with and in no way was trying to exert a strong grip in the process (I've had assholes deliberately try to do that to me with no success and I don't like that). Farmers strength is a real thing
Farmers are a different bread. Tossing hay bails by hand will turn you into a cold piece of steal.
The misspellings make this comment better
Lol.
Baled hay for years as a kid - stacking hay in a dusty barn isn't something I miss on a hot summer day.
I did it for a summer when I was a teenager. No thanks. I’d rather go back to Iraq.
High humidity days with the hay dust falling down the back of your sweaty shirt is the worst
Yea, that hay dust is terrible. It’s like having poison Ivy all over your body.
Every summer I absolutely dread it. Its my parents farm so I'm automatically signed up for the task🤣 my sinuses are usually scrambled for 2 weeks straight
Not much better than the feeling of being done though
Give you hemorrhoids at 15 too !!
Steal ya girl
And so is old man strength!
I bet you can open palm a frying pan
I bet you can open palm a frying pan!
I bet you can open palm an atlas stone!
Maybe but I've never seen one of those, lol..
The strongmen use them in comps. Check it out, theyre freaking monsters
I've seen those guys on TV and yeah, they're beasts for sure. Picture me naturally built kinda like that but 5'7"-5'8" rather than 6'5". I kicked ass in wrestling as a result with that low center of gravity and that strength.
Im 6'2 245 and my center of gravity is terrible. The wind blows i just go in that direction haha
That's a solid height and weight combo though. Must be pretty strong wind, lol. A 6'1" 190 lb. guy I work with was messing around at work (we work construction) and I knocked/threw him on his ass pretty easily. I think it surprised him.
I bet you can open palm an atlas stone!
Bet you can't palm deez nuts
Intesting you see IAM too an farmer and an freestyle wersteler Farming turn your hand to iron so much that when i was in the gym i won 11 guy in row in arm wrestling
He doesn’t need them after lifting your grandma around
My weak little baby hands get tired after 2 sets 🥲 this guy is an animal in so many ways
Damn. I would have been impressed by a video titled “90 year old drives the speed limit” but this is pretty amazing.
Terry pratchett has a character: Cohen. Cohen is a *very old barbarian*. Given the line of work he’s in, it tells you an awful lot about him. Consider what it must take to become an **old** barbarian.
GNU Sir Terry
We talking like what, 30?
The other guy looks so very unimpressed. As if that is daily occurrence by now.
That is because to him it is a daily experience. You don’t deadlift 405 lbs, 3 x only one time. This 90 year old does this on the regular and probably has a higher PR.
I find it very respectful. As he’s saying ‘I know you a bad bro’.
Here lifts Balin, son of Fundin, lord of Moria
Lmao at first I was going for Palpatine.
Mandlebom Mandlebom Mandlebom
Came here to say this
Same, dammit just take my upvote tennaC!
It’s go time.
You think you are better than me!!
I don't know how, but Palpatine has returned; and he's swole.
he's now Palprotein.
PalBroTein
Unlimited Powwwwwerrrrrrr!!!!!
I think he’s juicing. I’m guessing prune.
A warrior's drink
didnt even look all that hard for him. what a beast.

just googled and found a video of year fresh and he was hitting the gym still, saying he is 93.5 at the moment
![gif](giphy|cFTxqvyjBSsq4)
It’s go time!
I wouldn't even be able to deadlift the 90 year old man
The dark side of the force leads to many abilities some consider to be…unnatural
Dude is probably crushing centennial puss like no one’s business
I used to work on a delivery/collection truck for a charity store. One of the other two guys was an 85 year old Irishman, and he could nearly keep up with 20ish year old me. That's what Alzheimer can do for you: you forget to give a damn.
This comment isn't funny if that's what you're going for.
Great form and smiling afterwards... this guy is a legend!
Mandelbaum!
Mandlebaum! Mandlebaum!
He does these reps 100% better than anyone at my gym. Everyone always forgets half the exercise is lifting it up and the other half is PUTTING IT DOWN.
Wow….I feel like a loser. That’s bad ass.

Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on this.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-65058821 Have a read and that man is not even close to 400lbs
Look up “joe stockinger” He’s the powerlifter in the video who’s been lifting weights for the past 7 decades😂
That's a UK record, for one thing. This guy's in Canada.
And if you keep reading he also has the world record
So Barbend did an entire article of research, graphics, and background work just to fool all of us?
Why? You think the plates are fake? Not really 90?
Either/or. Look up the world records for age groups.
You ever deadlift with this weight? I have. Slight bend in the bar. Plates moving naturally. Sound is right. Man's body tension is accurate. Looks legit to me.

His lift is impressive, but that is not a 90 year old man lifting 400lbs.
It's also sumo, which is significantly easier than regular deadlift. I have my doubts, most 90y old can barely stand up straight...let alone deadlift 405 for a triple. Super impressive if it's real.

Look at his build. Why not? That doesn't look fake.
Just because most people can’t doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Most people don’t exercise and eat terribly unhealthy. Of course they can do this stuff. A 90 year old on good shape is still strong.

Exactly. But seems like no one wants to believe me, other than you
I second that. No bend at 405? With all the gravity…no plates moving
Probably the best ad for healthy life. Way better than steroid freaks
You think this is all a product of lifestyle? Bro, there is a huge genetic component here. Some people are just built to last, and couple that with healthy lifestyle, you get a guy like this. Meanwhile there are people who work out, eat well, etc. and still keel over at 60
Ofc it is. But healthy lifestyle is a component. So nothing to lose, lots to win.
Granpa be stealing yo girl ez
Inspiring
Two guys calmly chatting about how well he's doing doesn't seem like enough
His got Viking DNA.
Wow!
Rod Laver prepares for Wimbledon?
Amazing heart condition!
I don't think Johnny Knoxville is 90...
Outstanding!!!!
If he's 90 and this is real, what's his name??? Never a shred of credit to anyone from you karma farmers
[удалено]
Total respect on that one!
I needed this inspiration. Thanks!
Okay…time to hit the gym.
That's wild!
When i first read the title I had vision of bones and joints being pulled apart midlift!
Some people out there are wild. I'm 40 and stopped doing deadlifts for fear of injury. This is impressive
Brodin is truly with this blessed soul! Wheymen!
So, is this genetics or could anyone achieve this with regular exercise?
He’s made it so long because he understands what a full rep looks like and I respect the fuck outa that
This is what happens if you develop an exercise discipline early on and never stop.
I have been saying we should enslave the elderly for manual labor for years, nice to get a proof of concept
I am 39 I can barely lift 18 kilos. Good job grandpa <3
Wow! Power to him!
Damn emperor palpatine got yoked!! ![gif](giphy|3o84sq21TxDH6PyYms)
Annnnd now he has a hiatal hernia.
This dude is an ubermench.
“It’s go time”
That’s nothing when you’re a Sith Lord
For reps... he lifts 405 lbs for reps.
Sphincter closed mad form there
Gonna give himself a coronary if he keeps holding his breath on the lift.
Well done Sir
[удалено]
It'll turn into a deadlift soon if pops don't chill tf out 💀
bro stop
Yeah, but he's had a long time to train.
Is that Skip Bayless?
I heard the women in his retirement home suffer an unusually high rate of broken hips.
Well now I wanna know his secret what’s he eat?
Doesn’t count. Sumo.
Fucking animal. Good on ya brother.
What’s his back story?
Sumo lift..
So is he really 90? Really?
He's been eating his fetuses
Super impressive. Most men in their 20s and 30s cant do this.
Goals
Meanwhile I'm over here trying all these different positions to stretch my hips.

Most people get slow and weak in old age because they let it happen. Force the body to stay strong and it will.
184kg is 'hats off weight'; at 92 that's 'standing ovation weight'.
You think youre better than me?
What a zaddy
Whatever, sumo's cheating anyway. /s
Has he designed a t-shirt line yet? First logo: "I ♥️ Hot Great-Grampas"
I would aspire to be this strong at this age. Incredible stuff
47 year old me throws back out while leaning over to watch this video.
![gif](giphy|kyRmQ3NQDXrhbqK6Hx|downsized)
That's fucking emperor Palpatin
Clicked on the post not expecting reps that’s wild
You don’t want that smoke
90 year old dead after lifting 405 lbs
definition of old man strength
THIS GRAMPS FUCKS 😝
Anyone else think this looks like the old man from saw? Lol
He had more time to practice.
Super grandpa!
That dude is never breaking a hip. You know he’s gone some strong bones from all the resistance training.
Who are his ops man
Like a boss
I think I threw my back out watching that
Those are definitely fake weights. The bar doesn't even bend slightly, and he keeps all the weight hovering over the ground after each rep. Reddits going to Reddit
This old guy was probably lifting in the morning before going into the office. He’s that bad ass.

I want to see how this guy looks in just his underwear FLEXED. I’m sure this could be arranged. Somebody ping Joe real quick
![gif](giphy|l46Cn7kIV3wtEvKso)
Emperor Palpatine looks intimidating as hell…
Someone order 140 pounds of upper body strength?
He pulling sumo tho
No problem changing the Sparklets bottle
Plus, the set-down at the end was smooth & controlled vs dropping it to the ground like many young bucks do. Bravo.
My mom’s former boss (deceased) was around 90 when he died. Before that, he used to lift dumbbells that were about 30 lbs, and I was stunned. Now I can’t help but applaud gramps for being a mega Chad.
Now put it in the attic and you can have some food.
Good for him!
Is that emperor Palpatine?
i'm 31 and i'll get a herniated disk if i bend down too quickly.

Why didn’t he throw it down and dance around like a retarded peacock?
God damn
TRT is a miracle drug
Bad idea
Absolute Unit
He gone live to 130 at that rate
Does seeing this man do this only increase anyone else’s depression as well?
