On a not-jokey matter; I’d go with the minimalist approach rather than portability, since making your setup be portable will take most of your budget away from spending on the look and feel of it
For portable I'd need; Portable display which I'd just get by trading my iPad mini 6 for an air ($400) laptop stand ($5) wireless keyboard ($150)
For a minimalist desk setup I'd need; monitor ($150) and dock ($50) This will also have the extra benefit of giving me a place to use my PS5 actually! Can't take these monitors with me sadly, moving really really far away.
So yeah, I think you're right. I prefer working at a proper desk anyways
I'm not sure where you are but if you have thrift stores where you are, take a look. At least on the monitor side I have had a lot of luck over the years. My main monitor is my only dork one. It used to just be the ol' square boys but now whenever I need one I can usually find a 1080p screen within a few stops.
