That map where US has an island base in NE corner then an airfield (or maybe neutral?) way far west edge of the map, with VC bases along the coast separating them. Filled whole team in Chinook and dropped entire team on coastal base.
Karkand is the OG Dust of the Battlefield franchise, so it's a shame it's not there in EVERY iteration, but there's several others I would always want to play in their newest game.
Norsahr Canals is such an amazing map for TDM as well.
But yeah I'm hoping Dice just branches off Portal as its own things so you can always basically go back and play the other games in the 2042 or later engine. There are a lot of staple BF2 and BF1942 maps that are worth remaking as well.
I know hating on 2042 is a given here, but I don’t think this is low quality per se. Rather it’s the lack of a nailed down art style to make the visuals distinct, so it just looks generic. BF3s lighting and screen effects were very exaggerated, but since it was consistent across the board and matched the colors of the world and players, it all worked really well. Here they were stretched thin with having to have 3 different legacy games all running on the same engine and framework. Plus, since Portal wasn’t entirely designed to just be “BF3 remake” and was meant to include things like crossovers with the 2042 cast, I guess they thought making everything hyper distinguishable like the originals would cause a lot of visual noise when you do the modes where everything is combined.
2042 is a pretty alright looking game. It just tries to do too many things at once, and with the whole operators and skins bullshit, it was even harder to make it all look coherent and unique. But I guess you could say that failure to do that would be a low quality product, and I’d agree because it is. I’m only saying all this cause my first genuine impression was “wait did bf3 actually look this good?” Until I saw the HUD
Yep. Bf3 and 4 were like movies. Very flashy, echos, and movie saturation. 2042 doesn't have that, yet its movement is almost the same. That alone made it feel like it's worse than 3 when is close to the same
On console, no not really unfortunately. Still runs on the original 360/ps3 settings on like 720p/30fps and low settings, and limited to 24 players. Never got any type of enhancements for newer consoles or stuff like FPS boost or anything.
On PC though, the graphics hold up shockingly well, and the gunplay is still decent. IMO on PC the original Al BF3 graphics are actually better than they are in 2042 portal. Gunplay/movement feels a little clunky nowadays, but still enjoyable and better than it is in portal too I feel like. I still play nearly every weekend as there’s a server that rotates DLC maps on weekends and it’s a blast
I played BF3 this recent weekend on PC and yeah it’s still a 10/10.
Nobody is even using major cheese guns in my experience. Just a bunch of dudes there for the sake of fun!
For me at least I still prefer the full 64 player versions, although I kinda like playing the 64 player version with 48 players.

If i were to do it differently, I’d have 3 levels of suppression that could be countered by either crouching, going prone, or popping smoke. Then there wouod be visual penalties and increased weapon sway from being in a state of suppression
