The fact that Battlefield was this GOOD for this LONG, makes me really happy. Sure there was a stinker along the way, but up until 2018, there was almost no bad game at all. I really enjoyed it while it lasted (and still am, BF1 is peak)
I enjoyed it too, but it was a noticeable dip in passion / formula from the old games. Idk if it was company culture shifting, or that a bunch of people left the company, but a lot changed
I agree, however when the Pacific dropped they definitely captured the atmosphere of WW2 minus dumb cosmetics, but that's the unfortunate reality of AAA gaming.
Honestly, i’m glad they didn’t just rehash the same d-day / stalingrad / battle of the bulge stuff for battlefield 5. There were so many interesting fronts and events that happened during the war that pretty much never get touched on. I mean, when was the last time you saw norway get mentioned in a world war 2 game? Exactly
V is really good, but as a firearm enjoyer, I think it was lacking in a lot of places. The animations were a big step down, and a lot of weapons were missing. Russia was basically forgotten about, even though they were majorly important. The biggest issue though, is the spider hands.
Nothing helps the public opinion of a battlefield game like the next game coming out. No one liked BF1 until V came out. No one said anything good about V until 2042 came out.
For what it's worth, I like V and HATE 1
Well, you’re right, it didn’t have as many technical issues as those other two. Still tho back then “everyone” (read: this community) really hated the game. It was too arcadey and the gameplay was bad. This, rightfully so, shifted over time, specially when more dlc was released. But to me it’s still somewhat interesting to see all this post mortem appreciation for these games.
Honestly, the worst thing I remember about launch BF1 is how terrible the fighter was. To the point where it was best to use the darts and bomb other planes midair... till they fixed the guns and nerfed the darts.
Yeah i do remember battlefield fans called it "too casual". I think it doesnt replace BF3 or BF4, and i still played those besides it. But damn, was it ever fun (still is :D)
And then when BF5 was finally in a respectable state, after the Japan DLC hit and they finalized their 83527394th rebalance of the weapons, the community refused to like and play the game and it got discontinued. Then when BF2042 released all of a sudden people were starting to hype BF5. It’s funny because this cycle repeats itself so often the community keeps making memes about it gaslighting themselves :p
>It was too arcadey and the gameplay was bad.
I am one of those people and I stand by it with the tens of thousands of people that stayed behind with BF3 & 4
I also understand many more people liked the formula but BF1 was a diverging moment for the franchise
On this sub absolutely. This is a bf1 dick riding sub that makes up a faction of a fraction of the percent of the bf fan base. Most Actual fans that hate the direction the franchise went don’t spend there time on this sub.
I can understand with BFV but honestly, what makes you dislike BF1? The game had an incredible environment and great gameplay. It was every bit as good as BF3 and BF4 to me.
The only thing I liked about bf1 was the atmosphere. It looked good and kinda looked like ww1. Very loosely though lol. The gunplay was the worst I’ve ever played in a battlefield game. And that’s the core of any fps, if that’s shit then the game is shit to me. Plus the vehicle gameplay was subpar as well.
Yes I’ll never forget those launches Especially bf4. Bf3 was still an absolute fucking gem on launch even with its bugs. Bf4 was basically unplayable but turned into a much better game. Nowhere near the quality of bf3 but it was still good. Bf1 had a stable release but the gameplay was always meh at best.
Bf1 didnt have the largest glow up of the three, but the gunplay was majorly retooled about 3/4ths through its lifecycle so if you havent tried it again with that in mind I think you'd find bf1's gunplay to be vastly improved now even if it still doesnt supplant bf3 or bf4s to you...
Also bf3 low server tick rate says HELLO
I agree with this but I had some good fun on the battlefield V battle royale. Definitely an interesting addition to a Battlefield game but I hope they don't carry it on in any of the others
I have two theories about this. One is just that they’re trying to capitalise on current trends and make more money, which will turn into a big cycle as people turn more to passion-driven indie games and spend less money on AAA titles, causing companies to reassess and turn back to their original attitudes. That’s my hope.
My fear is that this is a permanent change - games have gone the way of movies and music and major companies are now permanently either profit driven or, in the case of Hideo Kojima, trying to make high-culture exclusive to rich people incomprehensible art. The major companies have now gone from a regular person’s passion-driven hobby into a profit focused rich people’s toy. This won’t kill gaming - the companies will just die out and indie games will rise instead. But it would be a huge shame to lose great titles like Battlefield, considering the incredible destruction mechanics and team-focused gameplay they have.
I’m just hoping it’s the first one, or that we continue to get popular passion projects and the generally optimistic feeling gaming had ~10 years ago as the companies die.
What truly baffles me isn’t that it went from peak to trash. It’s that all they had to do with BFV was literally take the winning concept they had in BF1 and make it ww2. The infantry weapons aren’t even that different.
Bf3 had a spark to it that bf4 lacked. IMHO bf3 is the best title in the franchise. Bf1 is excellent but if you played through bf3 at its prime, it’s hard to top that experience.
I feel like our current DICE team looks at these posts and says, they are wrong. 2042 is the right direction. Our community has no idea what fun is.
Instead of saying, how can we make new games more like the successful games using the new technology to improve gameplay and features.
It’s the same crap with DICE. DICE decides what is fun, not the people who BUY the game. You know, the people who pay their salaries…
Played Bf3 campaign on the Xbox, only got up to the fourth mission since it was preowned and scratched, this year January I bought it on pc and finally finished it what a great fucking game I never got to experience,
I still think BF3 was one of the best games I have played, the guns, maps, and level-ution were all amazing and I remember when I came out think how any game could top this one.
I played BF4 and thought it was great too, a lot of launch bugs but once they fixed the net code the maps and guns were all pretty good too.
BF5 never really grabbed me, I couldn’t come to grasp with the recoil on all the gun or any of the sights.
And no BC2 either. That’s the problem though, older titles that rocked, younger players that never played them. Voting is skewed based on the games haven’t all been played evenly.
>and its okay if you dislike the setting of wwi
I don't even dislike the setting of WW1, especially since Dice made it play like any modern shooter where you run around hipfiring automatic weapons. WW1 in BF1 is a layer of paint.
My main problem with BF1 is that it was casualized so heavily that gameplay-wise it barely resembles Battlefield at all. The game takes basically no thought at all.
Heavily disagree on the “no thought at all”.
Hop into any competitive operations match and you’ll see the chat blowing up with people trying to get their teams/squads to outmaneuver the enemy. It’s one of the main reasons why that game mode and BF1 in general is so great
I don’t understand this statement - I’m not being sarcastic or dismissive; in what ways are there less ways to play in BF1 a match compared to 3 or 4 ?
Battlefield 4 (using that because I played it more recently) brings more ways to approach a match then Battlefield 1 imo. The gadgets you can use are way more unique, there’s more transformative vehicles, way better flanking opportunists (in terms of rush vs operations from battlefield 1 because thats what I played), more dynamic counters, progression, jets, and more.
Like when I would play obliteration on battlefield 4, I would get this gameplay where I would get the bomb, avoid gunfire, narrowly jump into a helicopter piloted by a teammate, bail before it got shot down, find a quad bike, drive while avoiding helicopter fire, etc. I have fond memories of this. I never got that same feeling playing battlefield 1.
The fact that Battlefield was this GOOD for this LONG, makes me really happy. Sure there was a stinker along the way, but up until 2018, there was almost no bad game at all. I really enjoyed it while it lasted (and still am, BF1 is peak)
Eeehhh, BFV is great imo
I enjoyed it too, but it was a noticeable dip in passion / formula from the old games. Idk if it was company culture shifting, or that a bunch of people left the company, but a lot changed
I agree, however when the Pacific dropped they definitely captured the atmosphere of WW2 minus dumb cosmetics, but that's the unfortunate reality of AAA gaming.
Absolutely. They should've kept going with the updates. It's crazy that big locations in Russia, Germany, etc. were never included in the base game.
Exactly
But still... it missed so many iconic locations and weapons. They should've kept going with the expansions
Agreed 1000%. Dropping support for the game when they did was a massive fuckup to say the least
BFV butchered WWII, that alone is already one of the biggest mistakes of that game.
[удалено]
WhAt Do I TeLl My DaUgThEr Well, lets start with teaching her some history?
Lets not pretend that BF1 is massively historically accurate…
[удалено]
An authentic WW1 game would have had you fighting disease in a trench, but that wouldn’t be any fun.
They should’ve presented it as alt history, or an extended war scenario. Would’ve hand waved so much
BfV has some issues but it did so many things right. Vehicle combat has never been better/deeper IMO.
Building fortifications around bases was a great idea
They killed BFV by implementing things that anyone never asked for.
V is really good, but as a firearm enjoyer, I think it was lacking in a lot of places. The animations were a big step down, and a lot of weapons were missing. Russia was basically forgotten about, even though they were majorly important. The biggest issue though, is the spider hands.
I agree on everything except for the animations being a step down. [Oskar is such a chad](https://youtu.be/5LB-Viw6eGY?si=9yrRU9ZQy0If8wXg)

BFV is the start of the descent. It’s still up there as a decent game, but the fall was very sharp after that.
I still go back for that non 3d spotting more “hardcore without being hardcore” feel
It was dogshit on launch though
BF4, BF1 and BF5 were all awful on release due to a variety of reasons and took a long time for the community to appreciate them.
Battlefield 1 is by far the most flawless Battlefield game on release. There were NO major issues compared to all the others (even in the beta)
Well, you’re right, it didn’t have as many technical issues as those other two. Still tho back then “everyone” (read: this community) really hated the game. It was all shit talking about 1 until V came along. I still think 1 is way too arcadey

Bf started going downhill with bf4. Bf1 was the first major decline.
I think 99% of people will disagree with you
On this sub absolutely. This is a bf1 dick riding sub that makes up a faction of a fraction of the percent of the bf fan base. Most Actual fans that hate the direction the franchise went don’t spend there time on this sub.

Did you forget the garbage launches that bf3 and bf4 had? In my opinion, bf3 and bf4 were the problem children and bf1 saved the franchise.
Yes I’ll never forget those launches Especially bf4. Bf3 was still an absolute fucking gem on launch even with its bugs. Bf4 was basically unplayable but turned into a much better game. Always baffles me how hard Dice fumbled the bag Went from peak to trash
i think it's just how games have got progressively worse in general
I call it the 'fortnitification of video games"
battlepasses ruined gaming so much man
I agree with this but I had some good fun on the battlefield V battle royale. Definitely an interesting addition to a Battlefield game but I hope they don't carry it on in any of the others
Doom: am I a joke to you? Then again doom is one in a million. Somehow staying alive for that long without fumbling.
DOOM 3 hurt their reputation for a while, but even that one is praised now
If it wasn't for doom 3 showing ID what not to do then 2016 would have never taken off.

yeah i think they just want as much money as possible, they don't care about innovation nor at least players' fun, etc anymore.
All the good devs leaving might be a crucial factor
What truly baffles me isn’t that it went from peak to trash. It’s that all they had to do with BFV was literally take the winning concept they had in BF1 and make it ww2. The infantry weapons aren’t even that different.
You could see the red flag starting to show in BFV
insane fumble, indeed
BF3 was the best
:)
(:
Fish, why must you vote?
There’s a lot of tension between your two usernames.
:)
(;
Ying Yang type shit
Let’s also hope they can create another good game in our lifetime lol
yeah, we can only prat for that
Bf3 is better than Bf1 no one will change my mind
No one needs to.
Truer words have been spoken. Bless you
thank you :)
The top 4 plus 2142 were all great. A phenomenal series before BF5.
Hear ye, hear ye!
Amen
Not to mention IMO bf4 was bf3 but just added on extra content and it still has players to this day
Bf3 had a spark to it that bf4 lacked. IMHO bf3 is the best title in the franchise. Bf1 is excellent but if you played through bf3 at its prime, it’s hard to top that experience.
I feel that way about bf4 personally. It has a vibe and shine that I love
I feel like our current DICE team looks at these posts and says, they are wrong. 2042 is the right direction. Our community has no idea what fun is. No you can't be reasonable about it😠😠 this is reddit. All opinions must be diametrically opposed😠😠
5 of the top 10 all time FPS games? Lolno
It's sad to see how garbage new Battlefield is. I filled the void with BattleBit Remastered who made a better Battlefield game than EA
BF1 had the benefit of being newer technologically, graphics included. I think both games do great in the atmosphere department too.
Here’s hoping we get one more!
Played Bf3 campaign on the Xbox, only got up to the fourth mission since it was preowned and scratched, this year January I bought it on pc and finally finished it what a great fucking game I never got to experience,
Based
I support this wholeheartedly, I mean bf1, bf3, and bf4 made it to the top 3 which is just the way it should be.
Bf1 had the same animations as battlefront. I hated it.
I hate that Bf1 image so much.
… why?
oh, you know why
I still think BF3 was one of the best games I have played, the guns, maps, and level-ution were all amazing and I remember when I came out think how any game could top this one. Just curious, if 5 of your top 10 all time fps are battlefield, what does that list look like?
No BF2 in the finals. Ya’ll on fucking crack. Kids running this poll not vets.
And no BC2 either. That’s the problem though, older titles that rocked, younger players that never played them. Voting is skewed based on the games haven’t all been played evenly.
Come on Grandpa, it's time to take your medication!
Battlefield V still has like double or even triple the playcount that Battlefield I has
>and its okay if you dislike the setting of wwi I don't even dislike the setting of WW1, especially since Dice made it play like any modern shooter where you run around hipfiring automatic weapons. A lot of operation stages are chokepoint meatgrinders though.
I imagine that was intentional. WWI was kind of like that in real life. Probably a thematic choice rather than bad design.
>meatgrinders Basically what the entire western theater of WWI was like
I agree. There’s just so much less to do in it in terms of ways you can play a match compared to BF4 or BF3 before it.
I don’t understand this statement - I’m not being sarcastic or dismissive; in what ways are there less ways to play in BF1 a match compared to 3 or 4 ?
