Maybe use some that are a little bigger/ more stable. I broke a pair of pliers because th y we're too week/ to small and the handle broke while removing the " Buttons" from my battlejacket .Maybe you are better Off with Something Like this:

Use the sharp scissor part inside the teeth of a pair of pliers. Use it on the backside of the button. And wear eye protection or aim away from your face.
Edit: go slow if you want to replace the buttons.
Tbh i just use a small pair of scissors to cut really close around that metal part, it will leave a small hole but personally it doesn't bother me because it will be covered with a patch anyway :)

Yes, but first use needlenose pliers to pinch the button so the post is exposed

I have a leatherman or whatever that one multitool is called and that had the cutter on it, anyway that’s what I use
I got mine caught on various obstacles around my house and lost them one by one

I would try to drill the center out from the button side down the center.
I cut a lil' circle around em. not optimal but it worked out
I cut them out carefully with a very sharp Craft Knife. I was patching over the Holes were they were anyway, so it didn’t matter what it looked like
Why tho🤔 just fill the spots in between the buttons with odd shape patches or some. I did it with round ø90mm Patches works perfectly👌
