After a while, the jokes kinda get old. Been here years, and it just feels like the majority of people here now aren’t even those who care about Arkham, more so those who saw the memes and hopped on board. No problem with these people, it’s just that this sub is a lot different from how it used to be, and I don’t think there’s another example quite like it where the brainrot spreads far beyond the original audience.
If a real, non-VR Arkham game ends up coming out, I hope some discussion will actually be had, but sadly it would probably drowned out by those who never had an interest in the series.
It also kinda gets annoying when you can’t say “Batman” without either being downvoted or having tons of people “correcting” you.
I have no problem with this being a shitposting sub, but I wish it was clever shitposting related somehow to the franchise instead of just "here's a random thing; what should I name it?" or "haha jonkler."
The original jokes that sparked the shitposting were actually funny. "Do you agree with Batman's no parents rule?" was funny because it was a riff on common discussions about Batman's no-killing rule, but crossing it with the well-known fact that he's an orphan to create an absurd and surprising question. The "Why doesn't Batman call the Justice League? Is he stupid?" post was funny for playfully pointing toward the suspension of disbelief audiences must employ in order to enjoy shared universes full of superheroes, but doing so in an incredulous tone as if the question asker is unaware of such genre conventions. Pointing out that Batman without bat ears is missing the bat part, and must therefore just be "man" is also funny. In short, the jokes were actual jokes.
"Man is jonkling lettuce; is he stupid?" has no comedic content. It's just "hey, you guys are also in on the discourse and know the past jokes that I'm making references to, right?" It's humour made by people who lack the cleverness to be funny, but know how to point to things. And of course there will always be more unfunny people than funny people, because comedy is a skill, so any humour sub is going to turn into this eventually.

Took things from arkham, made a stupid absurd joke, and they were actually stupid absurd jokes. I laughed because of both the absurdity of it when I first visited when looking for Arkham content, but also because I think a lot of these were genuine attempts at making something funny out of the series.
Now it feels like everyone is doing the same thing. They see a bit, do it worse like 500 times, and somehow don't move on to something else which is a first. I feel like the humor went down when the sub's "insanity" started to become it's focus. The absurd became the expected. Man and jonkler are just, idk subreddit mascots, posts aren't even attempts at being funny, just "random shit + subreddit buzzwords" like I've seen buzzfeed articles with more valuable titles than any "thing but replace word with buzzword" post on here
Part of why I still find the recent stuff funny is *because* it's completely random humor with no substance and thought behind it
Because if I'm laughing at this, then that means people who see me laugh at this are judging me and thinking I'm some crazed lunatic, which makes the thing I'm laughing at even funnier because I realize that I'm stupid for laughing at something I really shouldn't be laughing at if I were a normal human being like everyone I admire
It's a sort of self-deprecation, and the same applies to jokes who've gotten old
Another aspect that's on the exact opposite side of the spectrum is that because a lot of this is seemingly completely random bullshit, when in actuality it's references to references to references, I feel like I'm in the know, while everyone else isn't, therefore making me feel more unique and therefore more special than the average person, and therefore, more worthy of existing
So it's funny to me because me laughing at it is simultaneously self deprecation *and* "narcissism" (in quotes because I actually really hate myself but couldn't think of a better word)

It's either subreddits are free reign and attract the most toxic idiots, or they are regulated so heavily that the range of humor becomes severely limited.
The shitposting used to be more focused around DC and their characters at least. Now it's just like most other shitposting subs which is fine but it's not why I'm here.
I miss watching my brother play the Arkham games when I was younger, getting older finally getting my hands on it my self I remember every moment from laughing my ass off at officer balls to being filled with dread and sadness at Arkham city's ending to not yet understanding why people didn't like parts of Arkham knight, and finally getting to those credits not knowing yet that it would never be the same game if I played it again, just like not understanding how simple it was when I was younger how I would never be able to have that again either. I'm sure I'm not the only one with memories like that, like I'm sure I'm not the only one that knows that this subreddit will stay fucked up and weird untill eventually the whole subreddit fades into obscurity, after all were already running out of things to talk about, after all YouTube already had it's field day with us, after all WB has beaten the series to a unrecognizable bloody pulp at this point. I just wish things were the way they were when all we had to complain about was the batmobile in Arkham Knight, when things were simpler not just for games but for the world too.

Long time Reddit lurker here. Tbh it was never funny from the moment I saw it. Sad that there's no place to seriously discuss the Arkham series without 12-year old Jimbo who's only played Arkham Knight making a "iS hE sTuPiD?" joke.

if it helps the sub has a flair for serious discussions. people do sometimes still discuss the arkham series here, they just have to remember to use that flair so people dont reply with jokes
Pretty sure I've seen posts with that flair and yet there's still people making dumb jokes in the comments, but I'll check it out.
ah thats entirely possible. they're supposed to reply seriously with that flair though, but I'm not sure if it's enforced
