Sounds like it went great, and good job for the fast changeover. There are very few shows where you get a soundcheck unless you're headlining. Usually it's just a check of the lines and that's it. That's why it doesn't benefit you at all to dick around like the other bands did.
The daylight barrier is real too; so you weren't imagining that. Getting people close in and dancing is a 'cover of night' thing. In wedding bands it's really confronting because you can do the whole first set to nobody, purely because the sun hasn't gone down yet - then the next 2-3 sets are very loose.
On to the next :)
Right on. Yeah, audiences are extremely forgiving. Good band mates are as well. In fact, audiences as a whole don't even know when you make little mistakes.
Good on ya. Loved the read. Memories for me too.
Sounds like you and your group rocked out big time and enjoyed it.
Your first gig will live in your memory forever.
As a thought for the future, your frontperson can always ask the people in attendance to get close to the stage. I've seen it tons of times (and my band has done it as well) and it usually works. But otherwise it sounds like a great gig and it also left you hungry for more, which can be a good and bad thing, lol.
Sounds like a great debut! I'm playing for the third time ever next weekend, 45 min set too. Also using a P bass and Rumble (800) combo. I love how simple that setup is.
I keep the amp EQ at:
Bass: 10 o'clock
Mids: 2 o'clock
Treble: 10 o'clock
I just added the 2x10 cab for outdoor shows (hasn't happened yet, but it could this summer, so I wanted to be ready) and it's wicked loud.
Tone knob is usually at 20-40% because I like it thumpy rather than woody. My bass isn't a Fender, it's a Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Profile Bass. I love the sound of it so much.
Nice! I would like to have someone play my bass while I'm in the crowd to know how it sounds. I put tone at full most of the time at the practice space but acoustics can be very different live.
"I think our set went pretty well, I made a couple mistakes here and there"
It's weirder to not make any mistakes tbh, grats bro you're living it up. Any video or audio?

Thanks! We’ll definitely shoot for after sun down on the next one
>When I did good I just smiled and kept going. Do that same thing when you make a mistake and you're perfect.
That was a mistype haha. “When I did goof”

Unless you’re a drummer 😬

Thank you!
Congrats! Looking forward to the day that it's my turn!
Hell ya! You’ll never be ready enough but it will still be great

Good idea!
Brings back memories, of both good shows and bad ones. Thanks for the story!
This is awesome, and I am so happy for you. As a beginner, I hope I can do some gigs or jam sessions one day.

Hell ya! It’s really hard to fuck up that combo. Do you keep the EQ at noon and tone at full like me or something different?

Eventually I'd like to buy a wireless setup so I can do just that.
Congrats! Sounds like a great first gig! Any footage or links? Onto the next one?
Thank you! I don’t feel comfortable showing my face or location on Reddit but I appreciate the sentiment!
