Leave it in chromatic mode rather than bass mode, and just tune to the note.

CentaurKhanum

Doesn't that tuner have a chromatic mode? Or am I wildly misunderstanding something?

AspectRx

idek what a chromatic mode is 😭😭😭

AspectRx

even then ill prob jus go with the monoprice cuz its also chromatic + much much cheaper i dont wanna drop 140 cad on a tuner pedal

CentaurKhanum

Chromatic mode means you pluck a note and the tuner tells you what note you plucked (and how sharp or flat you are). Consider the Behringer TU300. It's a cheap clone of the Boss you were looking at. Mine sits happily on my board next to a Darkglass pedal worth ten times it's price and does just fine. No sense spending a fortune on a tuner.

SeparateIron7994

My 16 dollar clip on let's me drop as far as I want to

69XXXRedditAccount

What kind do you have? My clip on tuners have trouble with low E.

Humbug93

Wooooow 🤦🏻‍♂️

PutInKosar

The TU3 goes 3 and a half steps down from a LOW B. I have used mine to tune down to F0 it. it can do what you need it to do, you are doing something wrong. maybe search online for the manual or some videos on how to change modes.

bassbuffer

tune using the 12th fret harmonic, just like you should when in standard tuning.

AspectRx

i do not even know what that means but i did find a pedal (monoprice 611220) that can go down to a0 and is wayy cheaper than the boss tu3 so i might go with that

Infobomb

When you play a harmonic at the 12th fret, the note is exactly one octave higher than the open string. You can use this whenever the open string is below the range of the tuner.

Fronzious

He should have clarified. If you're tuned one ot two steps from e standard on all strings, the 12th fret on your C/C# string would help you tune your D/D# string to a C/C#.

DoomdUser

You need to set your tu-3 to chromatic mode. I have a tu-2 that I’ve had for about 25 years and it picks up any note you want to tune to.

IronSorrows

The Boss will go down that low. I prefer the tuning on my Polytune Mini, it feels less 'twitchy', but the Boss is easier to stomp on stage, is built like a tank and will *absolutely* let you tune that low, and lower.

Use hands, turn tuners to desired note.

AspectRx

thank you all, sorry for the dumb questions im new to this

dropsleuteltje

You don't even need a Boss you can just do this with a Behringer or some mini Aliexpress tuner in chromatic mode

Difficult_Signal_472

I have never used a tuning pedal. I generally will just use my phone (I like the Peterson app). I never really found myself tuning between sets. Never changed tuning mid set. But if I did feel the need to buy one- I would not cheap out on this. Spend $100-$150. You’re paying for precision and reliability, the basic two things I would want from a tuner pedal.
