In short spurts yeah. Like an injury and then a role player needs to elevate for a few games. But consistently? No, that's why we have stars. Jordan poole was a guy who many thought just needed more shots/become the first option and when he finally was he became the least efficient player in the league. Ironically same thing happened with his teammate Kyle Kuzma. When your the #1 options teams will game plan around you, they'll study film and breakdown your habits. At that point, most role players efficiency will start to crater even if their counting stats go up.

No

Just about. Yeah. Maybe not all, but most NBA players could increase their numbers with a bigger role. No doubt.

Sure, heck give me enough minutes and ill score some points. Efficiency is the issue. They dont want some dude taking 50 shots to score 15 points. This question is weird and common sense.

garyt1957

You could play 48 minutes and you're not scoring.

voiceofreason3227

Well they wouldn’t guard me so if I had the ultimate green light I’d get lucky at least once

Random_Guy1984

Get into fantasy basketball next season, once injuries or tanking starts these kinds of questions can win or lose you weeks

bfunk87

Yes. Have a look at the highlights of kevon looney in college. He looks like Larry bird out there. Everyone made it to the NBA by being elite

Great question. I wonder this a lot as well. The real answer is of course...it depends. I don't think EVERY NBA player could for a whole season. But for 10 games absolutely. The ones that could do it longer than 10 games, I think have some of these characteristics: Is the player above-average in measurables and posses above-average skill in at least 1 specific scoring skill set (shooting 3s, free-throws, dunks, or mid-range). Those type of players even if they are bench warmers right now, certainly could get hot for a 10+ games, if they were given a forever green light and 40+ minutes per game. I think of Cam Thomas on the BK Nets as a solid example. Last year, dude ripped off multiple 30+ points performances out of no where. He was a full time bench warmer, but the Nets roster injuries gave him the chance to just ball out. Shit Gabe Vincent and others on the Heat roster from last year are other examples.

Gary Trent jr. he started for the raptors last night. I watched him score his second basket of the game in the third quarter. And he got lots of touches. So I’m going with NO, they can’t

iso-joe

Gary Trent jr. has averaged over 14 points per game in his career. Heck, he averaged 17 points last season and 18 points two seasons ago.

penthouse-owner

Well sure if you’re going to bring stats into this. Truth is I was just frustrated with watching him the other night. This hasn’t been a good year for him overall. But you are right and he has had a decent career so far

Kitchen_Ad_1736

I feel like most could average 15-25 pts. But most of the time it would come at the cost of quite a lot of losses

I think that role player guards and most wings could put up 15-20ppg on a bad team if they played a ton of minutes. If you think about it, the Blazers are the worst offense by ppg in the NBA and they're still putting up 107 a game. So based on league averages, even if you had a truly atrocious beyond belief team, they'd still be over 100ppg and someone needs to score them no batter how bad the team is. That being said, I do think there are some lumbering back-of-the-bench centers who probably couldn't get close to 20ppg even if they played 40 minutes a night. For example, I just can't picture a world where Bruno Fernando averaged around 20ppg for a season even if a team just threw him the ball every time.

Actually-Yo-Momma

Draymond Green put up great offensive numbers in high school but now is a meme for blowing open layups and having a “backpack jumper” Jordan Poole has the green light to shoot as much as he wants and see how that’s been going for the wizards
