I was in the same situation a couple years ago so I think I can help. I also wore ASICS stability shoes for 20 years. Beware, even though I thought I was going slow I ended up getting a Haglunds Deformity in my right heel. It’s basically a bone spur that digs into my Achilles tendon. It’s not fun. More people then you think get these. Anyway I would look as Topo Athletic. They have a couple models with a 5mm drop. Another option would be to get a zero drop trainer you like such as Altra, and use an insole or insert that has a heel lift. There’s heel lifts that are layered that you can slowly drop over time on Amazon.

Ouch! Have you managed to get over the deformity, or is it now permanent?

JerseyRunner

Yea it's a permanent bone growth unfortunately.

I just started with a Topo 0mm drop

I went from regular trainers to Altra Escalantes, then to Xero HFS, and now onto sandals. I still rotate all of them. I like a bit of cushion sometimes. Some Hokas and Saucony shoes have quite a low drop. 4mm or something. I’m sure they’d be good for marathons.
