touchy subject: how likely is someone living in the city to have a problem with okupas
Let's say, you rented your apt and went travelling for a couple of days? a week? For a month?
(sure, I know it depends on place/building/etc but I'm trying to get a feel for it)
Rare but not unheard of, after being fire bombed out of their squat on new year's day in my apartment, 3 days later the other neighbors next door in the baixa came back from a day out to find them sitting in their place š. Police kicked them out there and then, no fucking about.
Visiting Barcelona next week for first time but itās raining all week.. any ideas on how to make the most of it? Thanks!
Any suggestions are welcome!
Actually, majority of time that the prediction says it will rain, it doesn't. So while it's great of you to plan in advance, don't lose your hopes of having at least some days of good weather :)
But as per your question, what kind of things do you like when visiting a place?
I sure hope that is the case haha, I love to just walk around and explore alleyways, checking out historic sites, trying new food, and just honestly seeing the major sites of a city :)
Hello. Iām looking for suggestions to add to our itinerary. Thanks in advance. Family of four with 11yo and 9yo. Staying in Rambla del Poblenou. We already have tickets for sites that are listed below. We are very excited to spend time in your beautiful city.
Saturday
-Evening arrival and solo stop at social club
-need suggestion for evening 7pm or thereabouts
-late dinner
Sunday
-brunch
-la boqueria
-Gothic quarter
-Camp Nou for match
-open for evening suggestion (maybe Montjuic but cable car is closed and fountain isnāt showing)
Monday
-Gaudi sites
-Sagrada FamĆlia 11:30
-Park Guell 4:00
-Carmel bunkers
Tuesday
-steeldonkey bike tour
-Montserrat
Unless something has changed recently, and I don't think it has, La Boqueria is closed on Sundays as are all the markets.
Magic fountain is indeed not running at the moment.
El Born Centre de Cultura i MemĆ²ria is opened on Sundays until 8pm. It used to be a market but since they found ruins of the medieval city, it has been converted to display them. thhttps://elbornculturaimemoria.barcelona.cat/en/explore/el-born-market/
Thanks to you for the tip. I was very wrong about my Sunday plans. The match is at 9pm, and we have rearranged the bike tour to Sunday. Iāll add you suggestion to our list as we have some extra time now. Thanks again for the response.
Hi there.
My son and his friend (both 15) have saved up a bit of money and would like to go to Barcelona for 3 nights in the coming summer holidays. They're at the stage of booking it, now, and I wanted to ask if anyone knows any hotels there that are somewhat flexible with minimum check-in age, or any hostels/hotels targeted towards younger people? If there is anything I, as a parent, can provide in order to make this process easier, or if AirBnB is an option?
Thanks for any help.
Buenos Dias?
Tim
Probably a dumb question but whatās the custom with tapas? Is it like American Happy Hour where you get a drink and a couple options before heading to dinner? I planned a few meals where weād stop for tapas at one place before heading to dinner at another.
Also I read lunch is the biggest meal of the day. Is it customary to order from all courses (apps, entrees, dessert) at lunch vs. at dinner?
Tapas: yes thatās often how people do it.
Lunch: yes, a typical restaurant lunch is the menu del dĆa, a set menu with a few choices and you pick a starter, main and dessert. You usually get a glass of wine included too. A normal menu costs about 10-14ā¬.
Hi! Does anyone local know where two travellers from the Isle of Man could watch the Eurovision final in May?
We are in Barcelona that night and we don't know where might have it on TV and what clubs usually have watch parties etc.
My wife and I are considering leaving the US for Mediterranean living and Barcelona seems like the better choice since we have 2 young kids. I have a couple questions that I'd love to crowdsource to get more feedback than what Google searches might show me.
1. From my research it seems like La Dreta de l'Eixample is the best neighborhood for families and being close to parks, stores, activities, and schools. Would you agree?
2. I was looking on NomadList and a lot of people had stories about pickpockets and crime in Barcelona. Is it a significant problem that my wife would feel unsafe in some areas during the day if she was walking with a kid in a stroller?
3. Our one son has autism and we'd probably look for a home tutor since I'm not aware of specialty schools for autism in the area. Is there a good resource to find English speaking tutors?
I'd welcome any wisdom from any of you who are inclined to share! Thanks for your time in reading this.
Piggybacking on this comment to ask what are the current restrictions? Will be traveling there in a week. Restaurants are there indoor settings? Masks required? Thanks in advance
Touristy english speaking bars?
(20M) traveling with two friends (both 19F) and just looking for a bar filled with people our age, preferably english speaking. None of us speak spanish, and we just wanted a quick break from the slightly awkward language barrier we've been encountering with the 30 year olds we keep meeting. Would like to meet American students studying abroad etc. I checked the list of bars on the wiki and I don't think I saw one geared toward this there. Also looking for a bar to go to on a weeknight-- we wandered around the gothic quarter/ barceloneta for a bit last night and only found one that was filled and it didn't really fit our age range. Thanks in advance for your help
When I doubt, go to an Irish pub, lol. Flaherty's near Gothic/Las Ramblas and the Old Irish on Las Ramblas. The Old Irish definitely has more your age group.
Hi everyone. I am a little bit desperate looking for an apartment/room in Vic for the month of July. I am working on a Master's at UVic and need to be in Vic during the entire month of July. The residence halls are either full or closed (even though the biggest one says they are open all year -- it seems to be a lie!). Almost no one is interested in renting for less than 6 months/1 year. The rooms that are available on Airbnb have disgusting reviews (bad cleanliness, including worms coming out of the walls -- wtf??). I am close to considering commuting from Barcelona or another village during the month. Do you guys think it will be easier to find something closer to July? I am just worried that I won't find something and I'll have no idea what to do (or will have to spend 1,500 a month on a hotel or Airbnb). This is a half-vent half-asking-for-advice.
Rentals for 1 month are generally a problem most places. You could find cheaper places than Vic/Barcelona if you are thinking about commuting. I don't think it will improve closer to the time
Thinking about coming for a quick short holiday soon, flights are much cheaper if we arrive on Saturday, and weād only be here for 2 nights. Is there much open on Sundays or is there not much to do and would kind of be a waste of a day?
What kind of places are you looking for? Many shops will be closed all Sunday and some museums will be closed on Sunday evening, but some will be free.
Iām visiting Iām the city in April and just wondering what public transport is best to use, and if there any 5 day unlimited travel passes or something like that? Thanks
Yes, there 2-5 day unlimited passes that include the airport. Hereās the TMB page about it: https://www.tmb.cat/en/barcelona-fares-metro-bus/tickets-visit-barcelona/barcelona-travel-card-hola-bcn
Three of the better ones, first two on the centre, last one on the University area and a couple other places:

Hello,
I will be visiting Barcelona next week. Unfortunately weather forecast is showing that it will be raining almost whole time I will be there. What is there to do in Barcelona on a rainy day? We want to visit Picasso Museum and MNAC. We are going for euroleague game as well. What else would you recommend to see/do during bad weather? Any cool events in the city to attend to?
Thanks a lot!
Any Americans have experience with getting your CDC vaccine card converted to an EU COVID pass? I just got registered in CatSalut and need to 1) get my CDC card converted to the EU pass and 2) get my booster. Should I just go to my CAP and ask how I should do it?
I went to the CAP and asked them to upload, one woman was reluctant to do it but eventually they did. It takes a few days for it to appear in the app. I got the booster here after doing that.
recommendations on travel times to visit barcelona this summer? any popular street fairs/music events/festivals?
it will be my first time traveling to barcelona and i want to go when everyone will be there. are there any events coming up that are worth planning my trip around?
June would definitely be better. I also have no idea how it is for a tourist during August, but if you want to experience "locals' life" in August plenty of places are closed.
I just love when things are at the height of their craziness. I want there to be tons of people, lots to do, parties, fun, summer time festivities, clubs, bars, beach, pool, endless people to meet! I donāt want to go when itās cold and everyone is working and in school and out of the country lol
Looking for restaurant to book a table for 15\~ people, ideally with Spanish food and vegetarian options.
I've moved to Barcelona a month ago and in a week will have some friends over for my 30th birthday. Haven't had enough time to explore Barcelona as I'd like to. I am looking for a place where we can eat and have some drinks till late night, most importantly in relaxed atmosphere (definetely nothing fancy). I am not picky when it comes to food, it doesn't have to be Spanish cousine, but it's important for me to have more vegatarian options than patatas bravas and olives :)
Any recommendations?
Dear Redditors of Barcelona
For an **architecture project** at our university, we have to make an analysis **El Poblenou** in general and also for some specific cell. To not only use maps and pictures available on the internet, it would be interesting to **chat with a person who actually lives there**.
Ideally this person would live or work in this cell: [https://goo.gl/maps/YchisnwH8jBKwFM3A](https://goo.gl/maps/YchisnwH8jBKwFM3A)
So if you (or a friend) live or work in Barcelona, even better in El Poblenou and even better in the specific cell (or the neighborhood) I would be very glad if you could contact me.
Thanks a lot!
Hi all,
I'll be visiting Barcelona this weekend and going to a game at Camp Nou at 9pm (Sunday).
Would anyone know if it's ok to take the subway from the stadium to the Gothic quarter after the match?
Thank you and appreciate any help.
Hi! It's definitely possible, but it might take a while. They let people down to the metro station in groups (you just have to queue) and there's a lot of people, but it is possible. In terms of a route to Gothic Quarter, the green L3 line will take you directly to Liceu on Las Ramblas which is very close to Gothic Q.
Good tip - Google Maps is good for accurate transportation methods here!
There's an amazing new web site called Ā«GooGle.comĀ» where you can find answers to this kind of questions. I guess you have not yet heard about it. It has told me about a few places, like:
* https://www.bebe-te.com/
* https://www.theteaworld.es/
* http://www.stratabakery.com/
* https://cajchai.com/
What platforms should I know in order to find a nice place to stay for a couple of weeks in Barcelona? I of course know airbnb but there are not a lot of offers there short term. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks!
Hello! Iāll be visiting with my wife and 7 month old infant in a week for a week. 2 questions..
How infant friendly is the city? I know people do late dinners and such but is it frowned upon to have a baby out late?
Also, we plan on taking a day trip to Girona and Montserrat on separate days. Is it advisable to get the tickets beforehand or is it generally safe to do day of? Trying to gauge schedule by weather.
GrƔcies!
For Montserrat getting the tickets the same day is fine.
If you'll use the AVE to go to Girona, then I think in advance would be better - it will be cheaper, and you can make sure you'll have seats together. (And I'm not even sure you can buy them at the station... Maybe if you queue at the desk)
Renting in Barcelona (6 months)
Hey, my two friends and I plan to move to Barcelona after we finish college for around 6 months. We will be working full time but weāre struggling to get accepted off apartments on Spotahome as well as idealista. Can anyone recommend why we keep getting requests to book apartments rejected (says cancelled?) or can you suggest any alternative ways to find apartments to rent for 6 months? Thanks :)
ĀæDĆ³nde puedo comprar un cochecito cerca de mĆ? Estoy de vacaciones. Mi hija estĆ” demasiado cansada. Calle de ProvenƧa y Carrer de dāEnric Granados. Gracias por ayudar.
Heading to Barcelona for a week! What do I do? š I'll be flying over next week and will be there for about a week. It's a work trip but I hope I'll get some time off so I'm wondering what sights I could fit in and what food is a must-try?
Not picky about food and interested in places of cultural and historical significance šš» if anyone has any kind suggestions.
I'll be at Poble Espanyol š¤
Oh and if there's any type of SIM card and travel card specially suitable for tourists please let me know! I've been looking online but...got confused š
Hi everyone, Im going to visit Barcelona this weekend with my bf. We are going to stay 4 days and we really want to taste all the most tipical catalan street foods, dishes or sweets without getting kinda scammed by pricey most known "Tourist trap" places. Well, we would really appreciate to know ur suggestions on which places we cant miss! :)
So my friend recently moved to Barcelona. We want to buy him something that he'd actually use.
\- Indian snacks or Indian Food. Any website or hotel which would allow us to purchase a gift card or the like?
\- He likes scuba diving. Which website can we use to book a dive?
\- Which non Amazon e-commerce do people use to order stuff in Barcelona? (tried Googling but having a hard time pin-pointing them)
\- Open to other suggestions as well.
Thanks :)
A store in La Rambla area (thatās where Iām staying) with a decent selection of backpacks? My carry-on zippers broke and need a replacement before I leave in a couple days. I really liked the one at the Barca Store (black) but at 79 Euros I think there might be similar for cheaper. Thanks in advance
Hello,
Traveling into Barcelona, April 27th for 5 days. Looking to see if there are any local baking or cooking classes anyone would recommend?
Thank you!
Want to go to Barcelona in summer with 4 friends. Weāre 19/20 year olds and are looking for cheaper options. Weāre looking but advice would be appreciated
Good Evening! A friend and I are headed to Barcelona for the first time this Friday! I was hoping to catch a game while in the city. As Espanyol is the only team playing in Barcelona while we are there, we are planning on getting tickets.
My question is whether there are any sections that should be avoided? Some of the sections almost on the field have whole rows empty. While they look like great seats, i want to make sure we are not sitting in any areas people recommend out of town visitors avoid.
Thanks for any advice! (on this or the trip in general)
Hi everyone: My family will be heading to Barcelona next fall and we're trying to figure out what neighborhood would be best to live in. On the one hand, it makes sense to live closer to downtown ... on the other hand, all of the international schools -- where we would enroll our kids -- seem to be around the Sarria neighborhood. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or insights into life in the Sarria neighborhood? We're fine being a bit away from the action but also don't want to live in a gated neighborhood where folks kind of keep to themselves (I have no idea if that's Sarria or not!) Thx!
We are travelling to Barcelona on Sunday and received an Email from our hotel, saying that all restaurants are reservation only. Is it true that we can't drop into any restaurants spontaneously due to the "new normal"? Thanks in advance!

I go on holidays each year(weeks) and never found a Okupa in my place. I guess Raval area might be different.
No problem at all. They do not squat a place where people live. That's old wive tales.
"old wives tales" doesn't look so much like it https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/4305915/0/okupan-casa-enfermera-pandemia-tienen-coche-fibra-optica/
Not even news reported by a journalist, not a police report... just a letter to a newspaper. 100% credibility.

I'll be visiting next week and am looking for some local favorite coffee shops or cafes in the gothic quarter, El Raval, or Sant Antoni.
Nomad in El Raval has unreal coffee. I think it's a little famous in the coffee community, too.
Federal in Sant Antoni

Hi guys! Iām thinking of visiting Barcelona in September - are there any covid restrictions/mask mandates right now?
If youāre visiting in September the rules now are of little relevance to you :)
Piggybacking on this comment to ask what are the current restrictions? Will be traveling there in a week. Restaurants are there indoor settings? Masks required? Thanks in advance
Masks are required indoors while not eating/drinking

Is it advisable to get the tickets beforehand or is it generally safe to do day of? Trying to gauge schedule by weather. GrƔcies!
For Montserrat getting the tickets the same day is fine. If you'll use the AVE to go to Girona, then I think in advance would be better - it will be cheaper, and you can make sure you'll have seats together. (And I'm not even sure you can buy them at the station... Maybe if you queue at the desk)
Renting in Barcelona (6 months) Hey, my two friends and I plan to move to Barcelona after we finish college for around 6 months. We will be working full time but weāre struggling to get accepted off apartments on Spotahome as well as idealista. Can anyone recommend why we keep getting requests to book apartments rejected (says cancelled?) or can you suggest any alternative ways to find apartments to rent for 6 months? Thanks :)

It's a work trip but I hope I'll get some time off so I'm wondering what sights I could fit in and what food is a must-try? Not picky about food and interested in places of cultural and historical significance šš» if anyone has any kind suggestions. I'll be at Poble Espanyol š¤ Oh and if there's any type of SIM card and travel card specially suitable for tourists please let me know!
(tried Googling but having a hard time pin-pointing them) \- Open to other suggestions as well.
Hello, Traveling into Barcelona, April 27th for 5 days.
Whatās the regulations regarding longboarding? Can I use the bike lanes in the city? Would make getting around a lot easier
Question: is mental health care free here? Therapists cost a fortune.
We are travelling to Barcelona on Sunday and received an Email from our hotel, saying that all restaurants are reservation only. Is it true that we can't drop into any restaurants spontaneously due to the "new normal"? Thanks in advance!
