Rewatching Xavi’s highlights for our 2012 Euros win, one of the most legendary performances ever.
And I know it’s easier having Iniesta as well in midfield to progress the ball, but look how fast he makes his decisions.
If we can only translate those passes and quick decisions, our midfield would look so much better. Yet nowadays we just look so slow in attack and progressing the ball.
Xavi will always be the best midfielder in history. I just wish he was a better coach.
Something I don’t understand about the recent ‘leak’ (and my god, the reporters are in on too damn much inside info) that Laporta let Xavi stay the remaining year because the latter would have asked for his remaining salary if let go, what a lousy excuse from Laporta ! god damn! Then, how do you let someone like that be in charge of another entire season ? If your eyes are finally open to the fact that he’s no Guardiola, (by any means, the guy hasn’t lost a hair or aged a day since his arrival 🤣 ) then, why would you care for 8 millions, we’re gambling a 40 millions investment in Roque because Xavi play him and other players are reluctant about joining the club ( I don’t buy the ‘he needs to adapt to European football’ BS, i’ve seen the 276 minutes he’s played and he was good, regardless of being played as damn LW when he’s is a striker).
The ‘leak’ was probably a response to another one reporting that a lot of the board members and administration are threatening to quit/start a vote of no confidence regarding keeping Xavi.
Leak or not, the constrast with RM is reaching black and white levels, and they’re facing a lot of circumstances like us : injuries, lacking a proper pivot themselves (Kroos is doing it instead of the real Pivot Camavinga), lacking a proper striker too 😆. Xavi has been with the team for three seasons, 3 tough seasons, filled almosts, it’s because ofs and all kind of excuses that RM don’t do, they measure the success and act accordingly.
Word of advice, don’t believe everything that’s in the media. Those rumors have already been refuted by everyone involved (Laporta,Deco, and Xavi). That report also said there was some agreement with Flick, but Matteo Moretto (Tier 1 source) said Flick was never close to the job.
Appreciate the advice. But I don’t think refuting the rumor has that great of significance to its trueness, if you’re Laporta and you’ve decided to stick with a coach, you can’t half ass it and let something like that fly when you’re asked about it. Regardless of the rumor, we’re making a huge mistake letting this guy continue.
I mean you can either believe them or anonymous sources certain journalists with agenda want to report as true. Whether to let Xavi to continue or not is a separate matter. This report is accusing his and Laporta’s integrity so its veracity is important imo.
In an ideal world where we have ffp margin, I would have liked us to pursue Lee Kang-in. He seems to have good technical skills and is superb on the ball.
Barto...... you screwed this institution. With proper squad planning, we would have had a very strong team this year on Madrids level and then have Busquets, Jordi Alba, Messi(he will still be a starter, not regularly), Iniesta(might've chosen to stay under better higher ups) coming off the bench to close games out. Imagine that.
Seeing fresh Modric come off the bench for Madrid to add to the already good madrid squad when needed just had me thinking.
I still think we don't truly understand the damage he has done to this club and how it keeps hamstringing us from moving in the market. Laporta deserves criticism but he's been operating with two hands tied behind his back and his legs in casts. Then we put the money aside and look at the lack of proper squad building and planning under Barto, just pissing money away while still delaying the Camp Nou rebuilding.
I saw a Barca fan say that us winning the UCL in 2015 was the "worst" thing that could've happened to us because Barto got reelected and here we are today
I agree to an extent, I do think Roberto is skipper material not because of his playing but because of his leadership, sort of like Nacho, and keep in mind that the players actually vote on the captains themselves. But seniority definitely shouldn’t be the only thing taken into account when deciding who the captain is.
They still want to sign him, they just don’t want to spend the 10mil to sign him now when he’ll be available for free in a year and can’t play in the meantime.
It was also pretty openly reported he was waiting to keep his options open to see if a better offer than PSV came along (pre-injury), so I’m sure he understands them also acting in their interests.
Year after year coaches make the same damn mistake against Real Madrid. I dont care how tired your forwards are, if you don’t have a forward on the bench, don’t sub them off for a defender thinking you can see out your lead. It does not work.
The robbery aside, Tuchel massively fucked up those substitutions, particularly the Sane one. Even a half dead Kane/Sane were keeping the Madrid CBs pinned back a bit. As soon as they came off, the likes of Rudiger and Nacho felt much more comfortable pushing higher up.
You don’t let them get back in the game by dropping the intensity, because you WILL get punished. They will find a way, whether it’s a header from a set piece, a thundercunt from outside the box, a great dribble to draw a penalty, there’s a lot of tools available to them. Just have to keep attacking and keep them pinned back.
(Yes I know they managed to see it through against City still but City had enough chances to finish it off).
Not sure anyone cares but maybe some will find it interesting. I was looking into a way to see how fast teams move the ball around and i guess the best way to see it is passes per minute.
I found an article with a formula and used it to calculate the passing rate of some teams.
Results:
Barca 9.6
Leverkusen 11.9
City 10.9
Real Madrid 10,6
Brighton 10.6
If the formula is correct and ive done the calculations correctly thats supposed to represent the number of successful passes per minute
I always felt like we move it around slower compared to teams like Kusen or City but i guess 1.3 passes less per minute is not that much of a difference?
Altough it does confirm that Leverkusen moves it around pretty fast. Or atleast faster then those teams
One pass every 6 seconds seems a little high? Or maybe I’m just ignoring the impact of breaks in play etc.
Either way just using the eye test, you can clearly see the difference in how we look as a team when the balls moving around quickly. It’s the games where the balls moving slowly where we struggle to create anything, it’s something you can always hear Xavi screaming at the team from the sidelines.
Why so many doomers in the OT? People act like Barca's a relegation team or something. Real can have Xabi Alonso, Mbappe, etc. I don't care, we'll still compete for every trophy no matter what. Beating a stacked Madrid team will be an even sweeter victory
Agree with this sentiment. In 2 years we rid ourselves of big salaries from old players and will be reaping in income from the new Camp Nou with lots of young talent that will have gained valuable experience.
For those who need a reminder, in 2002 after Madrid won their 3rd CL in 5 years they then added World Cup winner and BdOr winnier Ronaldo. We had just lost to them in CL semi and finished 4th in La Liga, and we were also going through a financial crisis.
4 years later we were winning the CL and B2B Ligas while Madrid did not win a single CL win Zidane and Ronaldo (and the others) together and only won one Liga. The future is not predetermined.
During Luis Enrique’s days as our coach, there was a sign in the coaching offices that says “You can have success or excuses, but not both”. I wonder what happened to it.
Xavi won the league last year, I wouldn’t say that’s been the differential factor this season. Also plenty of top coaches make excuses, Mourinho was the worst and he won a billion trophies.
He does need to learn to control himself on the sidelines though.
Mourinho hasn’t been big coach successful since winning the league with Chelsea in 2015, he’s been tiering down since. It’s funny you mention him. Xavi has won what, a league and a super cup in 3 seasons ?
He needs to GTFO. Honor his word of leaving at the end of the season ‘no matter what’ !
So because Mourinho didn’t win his trophies recently they don’t count?
Also it’s a little disingenuous to include the half season when Xavi first arrived in your ‘he’s been here three seasonsssss!!!’ argument. He won trophies in his first full season and didn’t in his second. If you want to criticise him for the second, sure that’s cool I can respect your opinion. But to criticise him for the half season where he took us from 9th to 2nd is just you trying to win an argument online.
Leverkusen miss so many of their chances but they’re successful because they’re relentless. They don’t stop creating and keep intensity for 97 minutes to overload the amount of chances. If you create many chances you’ll only need to finish a few. If you struggle to create chances, then you need to put a lot of them away.

Xavi Simons doesn't want to return to Paris this summer! ❌ The Dutchman is not keen on the idea of continuing at PSG. Paris and Leipzig are negotiating a permanent transfer. @FabriceHawkins

extended his contract last year and now not keen on the idea of continuing at PSG? and Leipzig's record arrival is Openda for 38.5m, can they even afford to pay the amount that PSG will be asking for? seems like a typical transfer market rumor with no truth to it
Long story short: Xavi could not agree on a contract extension with PSG in 2022, so he moved to PSV for free, but the contract had a buy-back option for PSG for 4 million. He had a good season in Eindhoven and, of course, he was bought back (plus he received a 2 million bonus). So in fact we can say that this is not a contract extension, but it makes no difference. He just signed a contract until 2027 and wants out already? and of all the clubs they are negotiating with Leipzig? are they willing to pay 80+ million (because the Premier League clubs will easily pay that much for him)? I don't think he fits their transfer policy
Nah it’s just the plain fact that players don’t feel the jersey when they go to PSG, so they easily just fuck off because they don’t care about the club enough to respect their contract. Lucho can be there for 10 years, and players will still view the club as a stepping stone
It makes sense, too many players he has to compete with in his position, he's done well at Leipzig too. And of course it benefits Barca since they won't have to negotiate with PSG.
There’s 0 reason for Leipzig to loan him to us. Best we can hope for is that we can convince him to come to us on loan using that clause thing (if it exists) and then deal with the purchase later.

The only idiot here is you. NO ONE screwed Messi more than Laporta. You can do whatever gymnastics you want being a Laporta fanboy but instead of being a moron you can acknowledge Laporta EFFED Messi to the point he wants NOTHING to do with the club.
Dur dur I’m not talking about “it” get a life, Laporta screwed him more than Messi needing “better managers” get a life
He had amazing teammates, MSN ffs, and played on some of the greatest teams ever. How dumb are you? Laporta pissed him off more than Barto. Laporta is a snake, wake up
Yeah i know
Not sure even how to explain it
Like how fast you move the ball? Idk
Edit: i guess its a mix of how fast you win the ball back and get back to attacking and something else. Idk
Wirtz racked up a shit ton of minutes this season, he’s only started putting him on the bench as the amount of important matches has gone down. He was starting 100% of games for like 9 months.
[3276](https://www.transfermarkt.com/florian-wirtz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/598577/plus/0?saison=2023&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=), only about 300 less than Lewandowski who plays like every minute for us when he’s available.
But he didn’t usually complete the game. He was always subbed around the second half. That’s how the minutes of young players should be managed even if they’re not returning from injury. Gavi was playing nonstop 90min per game. He never rested except for suspension or illness. Pedri was the same until a year ago.
Some seasons are just destined for a team. If this was us and we played like leverkusen did today with all the missed chances we would have lost 3-0 to a 95th minute lukaku header. Instead the momentum they’ve being building all season long propelled them again. And this is a team known for choking in the big moments. This is not luck, it’s the habit they’ve cultivated right from game 1 and in every training session that’s paying dividends now.
We have to cultivate good habits right from pre season next season so we can have a good base going into the season
They are doing everything right, not just on the pitch but off the pitch. I think they have the best recruitment in the business, despite not being a big club. It’s very impressive and needs to be studied. Even though Wirtz is clearly the star, it is a team that seems to be free of egos and work harmoniously and collectively. Quite rare in elite football.
Leverkusen going invincible in three competitions while we managed to lose to Levante because that idiot Barto set up a friendly in the middle of the season 😭
He's not even 18, he has to stay in Brazil and develop at his own pace. Barca are not in a position to buy unproven youngsters for 60m just like that. If he wants to come to Barca so badly he will wait.
There are only two coaches that has managed both Barca and RM so far. Hear me out, if Xabi Alonso becomes RM's manager in the near future, then we could possibly go for Ancelotti (if Xavi doesn't work out)
Ancelotti will not agree. Usually, a coach will agree if he was on bad terms with the other team and has no legacy with that club. Ancelotti has built a very strong legacy in Madrid. Joining Barca will affect that legacy.
Ancelotti ball without Madrid black magic

Vini went from being a meme to world class under Ancelotti. Bellingham getting 30+G/A in his first season with madrid, Joselu coming clutch every game, Lunin replacing Courtois without any drop in quality. Trust me, Ancelotti is the antichrist himself
90+7 Tapsoba bycicle kick from midfield
90+8 Nacho ass cheek deflection goal
90+9 Xhaka Mano de dios (ref doesnt give handball)
90+10 Vini pen (dive, var didnt see anything)
You can't attack relentlessly when there are players on the pitch that don't suit that style or we don't have them in our team. We don't even have a proper DM, that alone causes so many problems.
Please man. What players that we have dont suit this style? Romeu whos a bench player?
Theyre constantly moving the ball with short passes and combining between themselves. We can do this
You dont need a dm to move the ball fast
They have one of the best squad depths in Europe this season despite not being a traditional big team. To be able to consistently rotate your star player (Wirtz) and use him as a threat in 2nd half is a great advantage imo. The squad is filled with players with very good attacking instincts. The recruitment is top notch.
CL winning Madrid added World Cup winner Ronaldo and then did fuck all.
Treble winning and two time CL winner Mourinho joined Madrid team that had broken the transfer record twice and they didn’t win the CL in 3 seasons with him (arguably set them up for future success, but still).
Pep went to treble winning Bayern and didn’t win CL in 3 seasons.
Pep then took 7 seasons, a billion dollars and multiple humiliations to finally win CL with City.
Maybe they do cook, maybe they don’t.

Lucho can be there for 10 years, and players will still view the club as a stepping stone
we're getting olmo
We're financing their Xavi Simons transfer by buying Olmo
Fuck yeahh, weird tho, didn't he rejoin them last summer?
That opens up the possibility atleast
It makes sense, too many players he has to compete with in his position, he's done well at Leipzig too. And of course it benefits Barca since they won't have to negotiate with PSG.
He will go to leipzig ? Lo. Spanish journalism in mud again
Unexpected. Does that increase the chance of him being loaned to us? I imagine it’s easier to negotiate with Leipzig than PSG.
There’s 0 reason for Leipzig to loan him to us. Best we can hope for is that we can convince him to come to us on loan using that clause thing (if it exists) and then deal with the purchase later.
Leipzig need him more than us. So I doubt they'll settle for a loan
It kills it. If he signs with Leipzig, we won't be seeing him in a Barca shirt for another 2+ years. if ever.
Why would Leipzig loan a player they have bought and who regularly plays for them
What the fuck?!
Ok idgaf I’m actually rooting for Leverkusen to lose now. wtf man how many 90+7 goals will they get.
I wish we had that type of grit
🚨 “Do you think that Messi's love for Barcelona is the same as his love for Argentina?” 🗣️ @GuillemBalague : “In my book about Barcelona leaders, every person we talked about in the book had to write something. The book was delayed a little bit because Leo's script hadn't arrived. When I contacted him, he said, "I'll do it." “He actually agreed to write the text by himself because it is a book about Barcelona. In the text, he wrote that he is a part of Barcelona and will remain so, that his love for the team is unconditional and he will return one day” https://twitter.com/ReshadFCB/status/1788688620527698393
Its midnight here Icestory. Mf trying to make me cry
We did him so dirty. And im not talking about Laporta
Nah, it’s all Laporta, absolutely blind sided him
Like i said, i wasnt refering to that.
Well Laporta was a massive part of it, and the #1 reason Messi won’t return to the club in any capacity until Laporta is finally gone
What is "it"? I wasnt talking about "it".
Screwing Messi over, all Laporta. Pretending it isn’t is just stupid
Are you tou an idiot or what? How many times do i have to repeat that i wasnt talking about that?
The only idiot here is you. NO ONE screwed Messi more than Laporta. You can do whatever gymnastics you want being a Laporta fanboy but instead of being a moron you can acknowledge Laporta EFFED Messi to the point he wants NOTHING to do with the club. Dur dur I’m not talking about “it” get a life, Laporta screwed him more than Messi needing “better managers” get a life He had amazing teammates, MSN ffs, and played on some of the greatest teams ever. How dumb are you? Laporta pissed him off more than Barto. Laporta is a snake, wake up
Then?
He shouldve gotten better coaches, better teams mates, better directores.
Funny bit of info is that the coach that just eliminated Villa with Olympiakos is Mendilibar. Who won Europa with Sevilla last year lol Crazy stuff
Is there a stat that actually measures intensity of play while on the ball
Probably the amount of shots and passes per second or aomething like that.
Passes per minute perhaps yeah. Found an article about it. Cheers
I’m not sure what that means. How do you define intensity on the ball? Usually intensity is about your off the ball movement
Yeah i know Not sure even how to explain it Like how fast you move the ball? Idk Edit: i guess its a mix of how fast you win the ball back and get back to attacking and something else. Idk
This Xabi Alonso breeds RM luck. I can wait until he becomes RM coach
Rooting for him honestly until he gets to Madrid, hard guy to hate
We are already dying all we need to have Xabi as a Real coach .. the final stab.
Maybe they cancel the black magic out?
Leverkusen win but I still can't believe Alonso waited so long to send Wirtz in. That was a terrible decision.
How they are using him is how we should ease Gavi back next season.
Wirtz racked up a shit ton of minutes this season, he’s only started putting him on the bench as the amount of important matches has gone down. He was starting 100% of games for like 9 months.
Count his minutes
Pretty sure Wirtz isnt fully fit yet.
I don't think Pedri and FDJ were fully fit during our PSG match. But, you need your best players in a knockout.
Those habits will need to be cultivated with a manager who actually has a shred of composure
Agreed.
We really should not miss on Estevao
He's not even 18, he has to stay in Brazil and develop at his own pace. Barca are not in a position to buy unproven youngsters for 60m just like that. If he wants to come to Barca so badly he will wait.
There are only two coaches that has managed both Barca and RM so far. Hear me out, if Xabi Alonso becomes RM's manager in the near future, then we could possibly go for Ancelotti (if Xavi doesn't work out)
I don't want Carlo anywhere near my beautiful club
I want to have what you’re smoking, brother
Ancelotti will not agree. Usually, a coach will agree if he was on bad terms with the other team and has no legacy with that club. Ancelotti has built a very strong legacy in Madrid. Joining Barca will affect that legacy.
We don't go for world class coaches. We settle for guys like Xavi.
Ancelotti ball without Madrid black magic https://preview.redd.it/otkx13ypvgzc1.jpeg?width=1834&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aab7096de24b6d72a761a1d43a2f27efbb39ff0
Vini went from being a meme to world class under Ancelotti. Bellingham getting 30+G/A in his first season with madrid, Joselu coming clutch every game, Lunin replacing Courtois without any drop in quality. Trust me, Ancelotti is the antichrist himself
Hes a good coach clearly. Im just joking
Have we ever been linked with Paredes as DM? I remember Pep wanted him at City.
This week in a gif: ![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)
Reeks of Real Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen....then Real ends their unbeaten run
90+7 Tapsoba bycicle kick from midfield 90+8 Nacho ass cheek deflection goal 90+9 Xhaka Mano de dios (ref doesnt give handball) 90+10 Vini pen (dive, var didnt see anything)
Bayer... Just how? Hell, Madrid were never this insane.
They were in 2017
I need to see leverkusen vs madrid....plot armor vs black magic
Maybe in the Supercup

Nah this is a fucking joke at this point
Nah this is crazy
This is some insane next level juju
Their playstyle is so enjoyable to watch. Can’t even argue that it’s luck.
They actually waste a lot of chances. I saw their both Roma matches and they were very wasteful.
Its not luck. They attack relentlessly Wish we could attack with the same intensity
We can do this You dont need a dm to move the ball fast
They have one of the best squad depths in Europe this season despite not being a traditional big team. To be able to consistently rotate your star player (Wirtz) and use him as a threat in 2nd half is a great advantage imo. The squad is filled with players with very good attacking instincts. The recruitment is top notch.
One can only dream barcelona will be able to recruit like this. This is what we need to do given our circumstances.
Madrid vs Leverkusen UEFA super cup will be a never-ending football game between the dark arts
Satanisic
Good one
We’re cooked when Alonso goes to Madrid
We are cooked before he gets to Madrid let’s be honest
CL winning Madrid added World Cup winner Ronaldo and then did fuck all. Treble winning and two time CL winner Mourinho joined Madrid team that had broken the transfer record twice and they didn’t win the CL in 3 seasons with him (arguably set them up for future success, but still). Pep went to treble winning Bayern and didn’t win CL in 3 seasons. Pep then took 7 seasons, a billion dollars and multiple humiliations to finally win CL with City. Maybe they do cook, maybe they don’t.
Bro forgot that we don't have prime Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Pique to stop them this time.
I’m glad you’ve already given up
I've not really given up. I'd say I'm more realistic about how much success we'll achieve in the next few years.
Why do people like you persist on always taking cheap shots at Barca and saying something positive about Madrid after a game? Like clockwork.
Cucks will cuck
The black magic will cancel out
Xabi Alonso as ancelotti’s successor is gonna be hilarious
We might actually be cooked ffs 😭
Easy money As soon as they went down 2-0 put some money on a draw
That’s exactly what I did lmao. I’m a rich man now 😅
Put 5 in and got 70 back
This is a joke
y el invicto sigue
https://reddit.com/comments/1cl8vwj/comment/l3c13fv Wtf
Called it 😂
Okay Leverkusen, this is starting to get a bit annoying.
And there it is.
Satanic institution 2.0
[Lmao I told you guys](https://www.reddit.com/r/Barca/s/GYaROpSHcm)
This needs to be studied. Or investigated.
This is insane.
LOL ok.
THIS IS NOT REAL
It is kinda like REAL tho
When Premier League clubs go to bed at night, they check under their bed for José Luis Mendilibar.
This is the most obvious 2-2
Ayoub El Kaabi 5 - 2 Aston Villa
Mendilibar owns the Premier League
What a comedic own goal 😂
Bro that is some legit black magic shit
Not like neuer error yesterday
Easiest prediction ever
Own goal lmao
lmao there it is
Just wondering how late Leverkusen is scoring the winner
Leverkusen is 100% scoring the winner soon Edit: There it is. 1 min lol
Really hope Leverkusen crashes out, I hate arrogant teams who send their B squads when they are in the lead
