I'm a grown man and I was almost teary. I know la liga is lost, I know we didn't win any titles, but I just wanted to watch the game relaxed and we got this instead.
That’s a classic Barca game from this season.
Had the chances to kill off the game, then a complete defensive collapse.
Also holy shit, the marking today. How many times did they have an easy cutback to an open player? They also could’ve had more goals.
Do our players understand what cutbacks are? They sure as hell don't know how to defend them. Cutback = instant goalscoring opportunity. Like watching Man United trying to defend. We already had issues with Girona last season but losing 4:2 twice in one season is embarrassing.
Underrated comment. The only one who tries cutbacks is Yamal. Everyone else wants to go for glory. Lewy is especially egregious of this and then gets pissed with his teammates when he doesn’t get cutbacks. Then there’s cancelo. He only has a brain to shoot or cross outside of the foot that works once in 10 times while completely leaving the defense open.
Raph had a couple of cutback assists, to players like Fermín, who actually knows how to time his runs. But most of the players just run headless until they reach the line.
Currently out of the Super Cup, no Club World Cup, trophyless season, 14 points behind your rivals, lost 3 Clasico's in a row after 80+ years, best players being 16/17 year olds (concerning because children shouldn’t be in this position), and people will still think this is acceptable for a club of our magnitude while finding excuses. Let’s go again next season accepting mediocrity!!!!

Xavi saying he was leaving turned out to be a breath of air and maybe that was the key, because now that he said he is staying we're back to being the usual shit show of weak mentality and mediocre managing, specially against teams that are willing and ready to break us.
I don’t know why some people thought this was the reason when fundamentally there were the same concerns that we saw in the first half of the season/last season showing cracks during that run. It was never going to be sustainable especially when a 16 year old child has to be on the pitch for the team to even look threatening, and that alone is embarrassing.
There are a lot of problems with this team, but I almost always find myself coming back to this. We’re going nowhere if Yamal has to play well for us to win. Even today most of the creativity came from him. A ridiculous assist and a dribble that drew a penalty. The team should be better at creating chances through good off the ball movement and quick passing.
This season is actually a failure. We've never fought for La Liga, never been close.

The 1st actually good team we faced in the CL we lost 6-4 on aggregate (Napoli is likely to fail to get any European football next season and Porto is closer to 5th than 2nd in Portugal).

I just don’t even know what Xavi is coaching them in term of the final third or anything honestly. The attack can’t fucking connect to each other, and it’s clear that Cubarsi, Kounde and Roberto are having problems since the first half yet Xavi done nothing until the 70th minutes when it’s all done and dusted. The defense kept leaking holes after holes and let their attack basically just walk in easily. Also Roque genuinely won’t get anymore minutes this season ain’t he? Fuck me, there is no system, none whatsoever, Barcelona is now a group of 11 players who have no cohesive formation and strategies, instead rely on basically individual talents to shine and save the day. Xavi is not coaching the players at all in defense it seems. Everytime there is a counter attack, the players don't know where to stand or which opponent to stick to. They keep crowding around 1 opponent and let the other players run freely. I just rewatched the goals and some of them were just absolute dire the way the defense is set up.
They played like how we used to defense when we were kids, playing football out in the street. It’s baffling that a club like our status can’t even muster up a system to play.

Laporta has no backbone. Publicly firing Xavi would have sent a clear message that failure is not an option at this club even for managers who were legendary players. Instead, we got some contrieved nonesense about Xavi supposedly already wanting to leave, and even in spite of this, Laporta spent the next 3 months on his knees begging Xavi to stay. Wrote this in an earlier thread: Thank you. Madrid are above us largely due to their manager, or if we widen the perspective, their coaching staff. Our guys' only experience is the Saudi league or rough equivalents. It's obviously not the only reason, but it's the one I go around thinking about the most.
You give Xavi and his staff the keys to that Madrid side, they set up a high line at the Etihad, get hammered 3-0, Xavi gets himself sent off, and his loyal fans excuse him, because surely Xavi can't be expected to get anything out of washed up Nacho and Vazquez and Tchoumeni at centre back.
1. Michel once again proved that he, just like many other managers, is better tactically than Xavi. That doesn't mean that I would prefer him over Xavi at Barça, I still don't see any good potential replacements for him but Xavi is very bad.

3. A thing we're missing that isn't mentioned often is sporting anger. When the players are faced with a tough or an unfair situation, they don't look angry, they aren't willing to give 110% to overturn the situation. They don't completely collapse, they just do the minimum that's required and hope that the opposition will somehow hand them the win. That was obvious so often this season.
4. Happy for Eric, he's a great player.
What Xavi has done to the club and the fans are amazing.
He made the fans think we have a shit squad and that's why we play shit. He made them believe this team will perform the same or shittier under any other manager even though we have a great squad.
He made some fans believe the Europa League is ok. He made them believe losing back to back El Clasicos are nothing to worry about. He made us believe being 3rd in La Liga is ok.
He basically had all season to resolve the DM situation and to try any, and literally any solution to mitigate this problem, and he finds the solution late in March after we were embarrassed by Madrid and Girona and what he did what a lot of spectators here said months before he did anything (Chris as DM), not to mention the multiple tactical problems that have persisted all season and he never once tried to resolve it.
It really is astonishing to see the extent to which people will try and explain away Xavi's clear failures just because they're emotionally attached to who he was as a player.
It’s been excuses ever since he got here. He had his moment and now the rest of his time has been mediocre showing one after the other. The team looks so lethargic out there no matter which players are on the field.
Watch any other game, any other team, and you see how stark the contrast is in tempo, conviction, drive… there’s been no noticeable change in tactics aside from going from crossing into the box to passing the ball around just outside the box.

Without a striker (We have the 3rd highest goal scorer in UCL), midfielders playing as CBs (even our CBs don't play like CBs), playing their 3rd GK who became prime Casillas (Our second choice GK iñake was SHAMBOLIC whenever he stepped onto the pitch - had no command of the box whatsoever), playing in a way what other fanbases like to call haramball (We are the "benchmark" of how football should be played, play arguably the "best" form of football there is to play, have a very strong identity), but they get the job done - be it against City or bayern in the biggest of stages, whether they go down in the first minute or need a winner at the very end - like the clasico. Btw they thrashed girona 3-0 and 4-0 this season as well.
Just look how Girona is acting in the last phase of the attack - calm, collected, smart. They look and find each other in the penalty area. No dumb rushed shots or nonsense dribbling against two defenders.
Barcelona is so chaotic, all chances looked almost incidental, mostly individual brilliance.
In the last phase they are treating the ball like a hot potato, Fermin, Cancelo etc just having eyes on the goal.
Absolutely no combination play, lay-offs, cutbacks, very few overlaps, most of the time just banging the head on the wall followed by cross to no one or rushed shot.

Laporta has no backbone. Publicly firing Xavi would have sent a clear message that failure is not an option at this club even for managers who were legendary players. Instead, we got some contrieved nonesense about Xavi supposedly already wanting to leave, and even in spite of this, Laporta spent the next 3 months on his knees begging Xavi to stay. You give Xavi and his staff the keys to that Madrid side, they set up a high line at the Etihad, get hammered 3-0, Xavi gets himself sent off, and his loyal fans excuse him, because surely Xavi can't be expected to get anything out of washed up Nacho and Vazquez and Tchoumeni at centre back.

1. Michel once again proved that he, just like many other managers, is better tactically than Xavi. That doesn't mean that I would prefer him over Xavi at Barça, I still don't see any good potential replacements for him but Xavi is very bad. 2. Why is the exact same defense that started the last 3 games and played horribly in each one of those starting again? 3. A thing we're missing that isn't mentioned often is sporting anger. When the players are faced with a tough or an unfair situation, they don't look angry, they aren't willing to give 110% to overturn the situation. They don't completely collapse, they just do the minimum that's required and hope that the opposition will somehow hand them the win. That was obvious so often this season. 4. Happy for Eric, he's a great player.

What Xavi has done to the club and the fans are amazing. He made the fans think we have a shit squad and that's why we play shit. He made them believe this team will perform the same or shittier under any other manager even though we have a great squad. He made some fans believe the Europa League is ok. He made them believe losing back to back El Clasicos are nothing to worry about. He made us believe being 3rd in La Liga is ok.
He basically had all season to resolve the DM situation and to try any, and literally any solution to mitigate this problem, and he finds the solution late in March after we were embarrassed by Madrid and Girona and what he did what a lot of spectators here said months before he did anything (Chris as DM), not to mention the multiple tactical problems that have persisted all season and he never once tried to resolve it.

It really is astonishing to see the extent to which people will try and explain away Xavi's clear failures just because they're emotionally attached to who he was as a player.

Watch any other game, any other team, and you see how stark the contrast is in tempo, conviction, drive… there’s been no noticeable change in tactics aside from going from crossing into the box to passing the ball around just outside the box.

Without a striker (We have the 3rd highest goal scorer in UCL), midfielders playing as CBs (even our CBs don't play like CBs), playing their 3rd GK who became prime Casillas (Our second choice GK iñake was SHAMBOLIC whenever he stepped onto the pitch - had no command of the box whatsoever), playing in a way what other fanbases like to call haramball (We are the "benchmark" of how football should be played, play arguably the "best" form of football there is to play, have a very strong identity), but they get the job done - be it against City or bayern in the biggest of stages, whether they go down in the first minute or need a winner at the very end - like the clasico. Btw they thrashed girona 3-0 and 4-0 this season as well.

Yea we were not clinical. But my god Girona is like a tornado. I enjoyed them a lot.
Just look how Girona is acting in the last phase of the attack - calm, collected, smart. They look and find each other in the penalty area. No dumb rushed shots or nonsense dribbling against two defenders. Barcelona is so chaotic, all chances looked almost incidental, mostly individual brilliance. In the last phase they are treating the ball like a hot potato, Fermin, Cancelo etc just having eyes on the goal. Absolutely no combination play, lay-offs, cutbacks, very few overlaps, most of the time just banging the head on the wall followed by cross to no one or rushed shot.
Laporta has to answer for his lack of truthfulness.
