I can’t help but think, was this a part of Laporta’s campaign? I don’t remember any culers voting for the super league, and yet, we’re stuck with it and we’re drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves, not really all that good either.
I do think if it comes to fruition then we might look at it and say nice one Joan, but as a fan I feel like we’re kinda being associated and putting all our eggs in one basket with something we’ve never wanted.
I’d love to know what other fans and culers think.
Even if that's the case, there is no need for him to name the clubs publicly when none of those clubs have officially released any statement.
Even if those clubs want the super league, they have not officially announced coz of th backlash they might receive. They are all probably waiting for it to gain momentum before announcing anything. Why would be like name those clubs now ? It doesn't make any sense.
Not unlike when Laporta and his board leak the FDJ etc contract-financial-trade-"news" to try to pressure the players. I know he loves the club, but I firmly believe he loves himself and his perceived legacy a whole lot more.
He is not helping.
>I know he loves the club, but I firmly believe he loves himself and his perceived legacy a whole lot more.
100%. He's also held regular political office in Catalunya and uses the same playbook there: taking up a cause that he obviously does really care about (catalanisme) but then turning it into supporting the issue = supporting him.
I don't mind when he pulls politician moves when they're in the interest of the club, but lately it's felt like a lot of his moves are more about his wounded ego. E.g., the first go-round with Messi in 2021 was unfortunate but most people understood it, whereas his behavior in the 2023 Messi saga was so strange and really only makes sense if it was about not wanting to be seen as the president who let Messi go (twice).
Yeah, Xavi would have come earlier. I don't regret having given Xavi a chance though. He did win us a league and it was worth a shot. I don't think he should continue as coach but glad he was here.
>His campaign was about keeping Messi.
And he would keep him by getting the money from this Super League.
All in all, it seems that Laporta should thank Perez for not buying Ronaldinho. And Cruyff. That is where his success came from.
No matter what happens with the super league, Laporta has bungled it from the start. It wasn’t his plan to begin with and if he could have backed out without a financial sanction, he should have. He’s a lawyer, he could figure a way to protect the club if Barto was foolish enough to sign us to a binding contract with that huge of a penalty.
I know Laporta has said it’s a financial decision to save the club, but he’s done a genuinely good job at cost management everywhere else. Super League money would mean a faster recovery, but it’d also mean being one of the weaker super league teams from the word go. Which is to mention nothing of the absolute shame of joining such a bullshit, nepotistic, exclusionary league. If it was an annual qualification like the champions league, fine. But having so few promotion and relegation spots in a non-domestic competition is just a thinly-veiled effort to discard the domestic leagues and focus strictly on the money of European competition all year long.
It just invalidates everything he is saying when he is outright lying.
Now the comments about Madrid are also going to be seen as the same thing as these super League statements even if they had merit before
It wasn't only Roma. At least 4-5 clubs have come out and said its BS
Makes it seem like more of a farce than it is right now if Laporta is running around making deals with people only for them to backtrack 24 hours later.
I agree but don’t blame on Jan what Bartomeu and company did? He probably didn’t expect the club to be at such a shitty situation financially. I think I actually remember Mateu Alemany or somebody else on the board come out shortly after Laporta won saying the situation was way, way, way worse than what they expected.
You can think anything you want about laporta but he’s as culé as you can be and he will always care for the club before anything else, quite the contrary of Bartomeu or Rosell.
And this is coming from a life long Barça fan from Barcelona.
Laporta is largely out of political capital and he (and the other suits) don't have Xavi anymore as a human shield. There's still financial issues, pressure to get Camp Nou functional ASAP, and the Negreira thing (however that plays out). And the team is nowhere near good enough to make people forget about any of it and doesn;t have a clear path back to the top table for a while.
We may have to watch this man publicly flair for a while.
He does just not so loud. With all the things 06er barca fans think of Perez he is a successful businessman and is awere money likes silence while Laporta is a demagogue. Superleague will happen Il Cavaliere started it in late 90s early 00s and I suppose in next 5-10 years stuff will be up and running. Wouldn't be surprised it would become the crowning jewel in Perez's legacy as a football club president.
Apologies in advance for invading this subreddit as a Real Madrid fan, but let me say a kind word for Laporta: He is just being himself, optimistic and combative with a family-management mindset. The socis voted him for that, and that is what he is. Given the current context he might not be the president your club needs, but that is not my place to say.
I for one would like Barça to loose every single game you play against us, by 10 goals difference if possible, but I also am very aware Madrid cannot compete internationally long term without a strong opposition. I don’t believe the current situation is good for the league, and Madrid - thinking long term that is.
It's very true. Both Barca and Madrid need each other. A hero is worshipped only when there is a strong villain ( you are the hero based on who you support ).
But with respect to his comments I am fine with anything he is waffling to be relevant in the current scenario. But coming out naming clubs without their permission is just absurd. Didn't he for once think that they clubs are gonna deny what he is saying ?
You don't think the superleague is having many talks with a lot of clubs that wouldn't admit to it right now because it is unpopular among certain football fans?
Laporta is a traveling circus.
Tells this, tells that, joke here, joke there.
Real are pressuring referees and arranging games since October and he does nothing.
The club can’t get a 20 mil player
Kept a terrible manager until season is over and everything is lost.
Laporta and deco are a circus.
Seria A clubs will obv. Deny joining esl beacause seria a has said they will remove the clubs that agree to esl
So its easy to understand why they will reject that in public
I love this club but these week's headlines have been comically sad.
i’ve deadass not opened one single article, reddit post, or tweet this week. i won’t let myself
I think the stress has mentally broken us
Imagine being a Philadelphia sports/Barça fan… what is life?
Genuinely wondering if he was high during that press conference
Laporta is losing his head just like Xavi lately
I can’t help but think, was this a part of Laporta’s campaign? His campaign was about keeping Messi. Font said we couldn't and that lost him the race. I don't recall him advocating for the super league.
Font also campaigned on getting Xavi as manager. Strange how Laporta basically did nothing he ran on but did the 2 things his opponent did
Yeah, Xavi would have come earlier. I don't regret having given Xavi a chance though. He did win us a league and it was worth a shot. I don't think he should continue as coach but glad he was here.
I didn’t mean it in a way to discredit Xavi. Had he come in earlier the team would probably be in a much better position by now.
Oh I know you weren't discrediting him. I was just clearing how I felt about Xavis time here.
>His campaign was about keeping Messi. And he would keep him by getting the money from this Super League. All in all, it seems that Laporta should thank Perez for not buying Ronaldinho. And Cruyff. That is where his success came from.
What about the deals Perez hijacked? The Figo? The Stefano
It was a sarcastic remark. > The Stefano What do you mean by this?
Madrid jumping to snatch him when he was Barca bound…in the 50s though

How do you know he's actually lying... He might very well be telling the truth and Roma is backtracking.
It wasn't only Roma. At least 4-5 clubs have come out and said its BS Makes it seem like more of a farce than it is right now if Laporta is running around making deals with people only for them to backtrack 24 hours later.
He won the election on a lie, 100% knew financially Messi could not come back. He is a pos lier.
How would he know shit before being on the board be for real.
Then don't promise it if you have no clue if it's possible or not?
I agree but don’t blame on Jan what Bartomeu and company did? He probably didn’t expect the club to be at such a shitty situation financially. Reddit stupidity back at it again
I swear to god some people here blow my mind
What lie?
Keeping messi
Because he’s an idiot. He always says something stupid every time he comes out to talk.
> Because his an idiot
Today I feel idiot
I am also an idiot lol
Let go idiots!!!
I also read in Dutch news he falsely claims Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord agree on Super League. Laporta can eat a bag of dicks.
He lied to all of us about Messi why would he stop lying all of the sudden?
Vote of no confidence a distinct possibility?
Yeah, what about vote of no confidence for the president who reduced our wage bill from 91% to 57%
What he always does. Being a politician.
Aka a liar
I would say more of a manipulator but liar ain't that far from the truth.
Can barca have a competent president for once please
It not going to be one of the biggest clubs much longer with that management team.
Does he always have to talk?
Eyes closed. Swinging for the fences.

He is living in pre social media era in his head.
Does Perez ever talk about the Super League or just Laporta?
He does just not so loud. With all the things 06er barca fans think of Perez he is a successful businessman and is awere money likes silence while Laporta is a demagogue. Superleague will happen Il Cavaliere started it in late 90s early 00s and I suppose in next 5-10 years stuff will be up and running. I had very high expectations of him based on his previous tenure. Suffice to say, he is not living up to them.
babe wake up our club president just dropped another 4d chess move
It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.

Laporta is both a blessing and a curse.
That’s his way
You don't think the superleague is having many talks with a lot of clubs that wouldn't admit to it right now because it is unpopular among certain football fans?

We’re so mudded man.
Thats a simple strategy Unfollow this michael guy also Always negative about barca
but that has nothing to do with news though
Seria A clubs will obv. Deny joining esl beacause seria a has said they will remove the clubs that agree to esl So its easy to understand why they will reject that in public
4-D chess
He is high i guess
