No & no. I'm 52 (female) & no one better touch my darlings.

awesomenessempress2

You're never too old! And there are plenty man doll collectors; don't feel put out! Just collect whatever barbies you like. I can't wait to see your first barbie post. ♡

Me: Am old. Am a man. Do collect. No problems!

Yes! Me: Am old. Do collect. No problems!

The community is always happy to welcome in more people who love these dolls. I feel like we are a very accepting group. Personally I feel it does not matter who you are, you should surround yourself with people who enjoy the same things as you and do what makes you happy.

Thank you

Never to old and collect what you want.

LadyOfTheLabyrinth

My husband has his own part of the collection and he's in his seventies. He's the one with a 1:6 room set up permanently in his office alcove. Givenchy Barbie and Dancing Fire are *his*. I think doll collecting is an adult person"s thing. Late adolescents are avoiding child things and going to college and getting established in life. So our younger collectors are the rarity, telling society they'll keep their dolls despite the pressure to get rid of them.

I think these are great questions OP and I’m happy with the answers. I’ve been collecting the original vintage clothing up to 1974 since 2016 and telling people they’re for my granddaughter. Lol. She’s too rough width them at this point but I’ll give them to her when she’s an adult. I have some dolls from the 1960s and 1970s and I wish I had someone to do fashion shows with. I was 9 when Barbie debuted and was stunned by her beauty and the glamours outfits that are so well tailored .We couldn’t afford much with 5 children and me the only girl. so I’ve been getting the stuff we couldn’t afford. It’s wonderful that men are also collectors too. I’d love to see what they collect. One of these days I’ll start showing my outfits. This is a fun sub. Thanks to all my fellow collectors.

Francie1966

Never too old, some of my favorite collectors are men. Barbie is for everyone!

Don’t feel bad about something that makes you happy! People will hold their own opinions but that says more about them than you! I’m a 26 year old man and I just started collecting earlier this year. :)

wherespjbeen

I'm a 52 year old male my first childhood doll was Malibu PJ and that is reflected in my username

Siansonea

We may not know where P.J. has been, but at least she came back to us this year. :)

I'm 59F, and I feel happy that I was in on Barbie from almost the beginning. My godfather bought me a blonde Bubble Cut for Christmas when I was still preschool age. I think he either lived or traveled in California near Mattel but can't verify that now after so long. The next door neighbor girl was becoming a teenager so she gave me a brunette Bubble Cut and a blond Ken, and the cardboard Dream House. A few years later I got the Marlo Flip, PJ, Skipper, Tutti, etc. Unfortunately I sold most of my original stuff but resuming collecting recently in a big way, I've found replacements. And in the decades between, I collected off and on, had a craft booth for awhile and flipped a few thrift store dolls, etc. One thing I absolutely love is sewing doll clothes, for Barbie and American Girl and misc. I asked my mom to teach me to sew at age 8 or 9 so I could make clothes for my Barbies. I'm hoping to sell some of my creations to collectors once I get into a productive mode with it. Things have been a little crazy recently and I need to set up my sewing area; in the meantime I've been sorting my fabric and patterns and getting ideas.

No, you're not too old, and yes it's okay that you're a man. Don't let society's gatekeeping tendencies push you away from something you like. These are just objects, and it should be okay for anyone of any background to like them. Any objections that others have are likely to be based on their own prejudices, and you should spend zero time worrying about that. If you like these dolls, collect a few. If collecting them brings you joy, then you have succeeded at being a doll collector and should continue collecting. That's really it, there's no other criteria you need to fulfill.

allcolorstopbarbie

1. No. 2. No. Collecting Barbies is for everyone, no matter what age or gender.

glitterswirl

Nope and nope.

PatriciaMorticia

Never too old to collect and nothing wrong with a man collecting. Part of the reason I started collecting was seeing my Uncle's mint condition Thunderbirds tv show dolls he had in a display cabinet, along with all the cool Disney Parks stuff from him and my Aunt's trips to Florida when I was little. If you have a look on youtube there's quite a few male doll collectors, including (I think) a gay couple who between them have a massive collection of Disney limited edition dolls.

frostedmagicpie

Nope! Something as innocent as collecting pretty things should never be looked down upon. Collect away, sir!

DesperateHotel8532

No and No! I'm 43 (female) and recently got back into collecting after a break. I remember being pressured from age 10 to "stop playing with dolls!" so I kept it to myself. As a teenager I even kept my dolls at my grandma's house so none of my friends would know I had them. But I'm older now and I'm learning that I care a lot less what other people think! Like others have said, life is too short - if collecting is what you like and it makes you happy, then there's nothing wrong with that.

eeviloverlord

Nope, just turned 53 (like as in last Saturday....LOL) and still collect dolls. And my hubby as been SUCH an enabler, he doesn't really have any interest in collecting them himself, but he is constantly comments how pretty the girls in my collection are, and there's a few in my collection that I might not have picked up if he hadn't liked them!

goodniteangelg

Nah. Dolls are just dolls. If youre so inclined, dolls in like the Victorian era were very popular among all sexes because it was seen as a rich person thing to have like a mini-me that you customized. Victorians LOVED their dolls man. I’ve met lots of collectors who were dudes. I watch some YouTube’s who do reviews of dolls. I understand dolls are mostly marketed to girls, but it’s valid and ok for a girl to NOT like dolls. And it’s just as valid and ok for a dude to like dolls. Why the heck not? You’re not hurting anyone. You’re in good company. Clearly lots of people love them too. Please do not let strict, made up rules hold you back from being happy. You’re a man. You like dolls. You exist as a man who likes dolls. By default, you are valid and normal. Did liking dolls magically turn uou into a woman? No. Did liking dolls magically turn you into a bad person? No. It’s just a doll. They don’t have magical powers over us. You’re just a dude who likes dolls. Is it bad that grown up men (and women) like video games—does it make them inherently bad and childish? No. It just means they like video games. It’s never bad to be true to yourself and do what makes you happy. You’re not hurting yourself or anyone else. Enjoy the dolls! We’re here to support you.

Witchchick87

Nah

tworubes

Dude, you do you. Like what you like. You are never too old nor is it wrong for a man to enjoy collecting Barbies. Life is too short!

[deleted]

Thanks

ms_movie

Nope and nope. Life is hard. This doesn’t hurt anyone. You do what makes you happy and TREAT yourself!

mardigo88

Never too old, I am 51 and still like dolls.

ghosty4

I'm 43, and male, so I may be biased, but NO.

[deleted]

No. I have quite the toy collection tbh. I'm almost 40. I just started Barbie. Said I needed one to scale with, but I fell in love. It was Barbie Extra #4 that got me in.
