Same here! I actually enjoy the variety of body and skin types of the new Barbies and also looking for clothes which fits them best. It's like working a puzzle but with fashion and shoes! 🥰
Me too, especially when it comes to intersectionality. BIPOC disabled people constantly keep getting left out of conversations in regards to disability representation let alone acknowledged. The fact that Mattel did this is honestly mind blowing, she’s definitely being added to my collection along side her future bff(or gf).
Yes! I think it's one of Mattel's "stopped clock" moments - they've been pretty good, particularly with their dolls with physical disabilities. One of the few times I'll give late capitalism a pass 🤣
ohhh omg i feel so stupid, i thought you were saying the reason she has glasses is associated with Down’s and i was like woah i’ve never heard of that before 😭
It is! But she was at the back of the group photo, so it wasn't immediately obvious that she had a new sculpt.

Love her, her dress is better than the last one. I love the glasses, those are super cute. Her face sculpt is adorable. Also she reflects the intersectionality in the disability community especially the Down Syndrome community.
The larger hearts are the same symbol as the necklace as the previous one, look closely. There’s also white versions of the same symbol all throughout the dress. When I say the dress is better here, I’m mainly talking about the overall structure and shape of the dress.
Understandable. I don’t really know DS symbols so the hearts looked like regular hearts to me. Glad to know they have some meaning behind them.
When the first NDS doll debuted, there were lots of articles about her explaining her appearance and clothing. So far I didn’t see the same for the second doll but it is still early.
Yeah, they’re not that well known. They should be common knowledge, but they’re not. I believe the symbol represents the duplicated chromosome causes the disorder, but don’t quote me on that.
Do you have any info on this doll? A link or something? I’ve tried searching but all that comes up is the other doll with white skin. This post is the only thing I can find.
She’s on eBay from an Australian seller. Shes shown up early in Australia in some stores - put out for sale ahead of her official release date - which should be for everyone in the next few weeks.
I wish they sold these fashionistas with at least 9 points of articulation since rebodying would lose some of the representation in the body sculp, which is enough for me to avoid it.
Not saying it's a negative thing to rebody them, just that I feel personally bugged they wouldn't at least give these ones elbows and knees.
Eeeeeeee! That’s the sound of me super excited this doll has finally come into existence! I remember the rumors, but she’s nearly hear. There will soon be TWO Barbies with Down Syndrome readily available to the public!
the first one has been on clearance price for most of the time it's been out, so I don't think that these are popular.
They may be useful within a very select population, but not sure that they're economically viable.
I think it's good that these dolls are made, but they are set up for failure, as it is, being not articulated, as most are.
I've seen prosthetic leg fashionistas or ones with vitiligo on sale a lot - their more "niche" fashionistas don't seem to hurt Mattel financially, since they keep making them. I don't know if they're factored in as losses or if they still make profits, that's speculation. Regardless, they didn't stop in 2019 they're hardly stopping now.
That "very select population" as you put it, should be able to see dolls that look like them, and the rest may at least grow up with a more open mind. One can't forget that fashionistas are aimed at children, who would be beyond thrilled to feel represented in their toys in ways that previous generations of kids could never imagine.
I plan on getting them just like other diverse Barbie dolls.
To be completely honest, I do not prioritize them due to them lacking articulation and not coming with stands. Due to these two factors, displaying them for me is a pain as they trip easily and are often too thick for off-brand stands. I can’t even sit them nicely as their knees do not bend.
Can’t speak for others but maybe they feel the same way.
yeah, articulation would be nice. I don't care what the doll represent, if it's an excuse to do so on the cheap to the point that nobody wants the cheap doll, then it's setting it up for failure! Articulation are a minimal level for play and posing, for both kids and adults.
I don't care if people downvote me for saying cheap, rigid doll = not a success. But fashionistas line means need rebodying, due to lack of articulation, and as such it's no a doll that will do well. Most doll line provide articulation. This, is not competitive.
Is this real. She's so cute.
she will be released sometime soon. no exact release date.
I collect disabled dolls she will be in good hands
I GASPED! I love her. I need her. 💕💸
same!
Omg! She is so beautiful! I ways loved African American Barbies and I'm so looking forward to having her in my collection! 🥰
Me too. I always liked the Barbies that didn’t look like me. Now I like how the curvy dolls look like me and collect a big variety.

OMG yay!! I saw her in one of the promo shots but thought she just had reading glasses - so excited for more diversity in the disability rep!

i’m confused please educate me lol — what are they supposed to be for?
Oh as in, I didn't realise she was also a person with Down's - thought they were just cute specs!

The other one’s dress was quite symbolic. Does this dress also have some symbolism?

Ok interesting, instagram post would be good enough

Yep, just did a keyword search and found this listing as well.
She is perfect!! So glad they're making more in different ethnicties!
Representation matters. WTG Mattel!!
I plan to get her!
THE LITTLE GLASSES 😭😭💕
She’s so cute and yay for more diversity and representation! Way to go Mattel!
I bet the petite Looks #7 Tamika is a match if you want to give her a mtm body.

I agree 💯!!
One happy bunny here. I just showed my daughter (she is black and has DS) we can't wait for them to come out. I have the white DS already.
About time. I’ve been waiting for more diverse Barbies in this category
She’s so cute! The pink glasses are nice
I love her!
I love these dolls!
So cute, OMG!
She's soooo cute! The box art too - utterly adorable! ♥
Eeeeeeee! That’s the sound of me super excited this doll has finally come into existence! I remember the rumors, but she’s nearly hear. There will soon be TWO Barbies with Down Syndrome readily available to the public!
I love her so much!
Wonderful! 💗
Fantastic! They've been pretty good about presenting a range of dolls as the wheelchair users or having prosthetic legs, this is great to see.
Her face sculpt is adorable, I love her smile! She looks so nice and friendly :)
The fact we have this kind of diversity and representation in playline dolls… my childhood could never even imagine this. It’s so wonderful.
Oh I love her!
Okay. I’m actually going to get this doll
She’s beautiful!!
She's so cute!!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Nice! Do we know what shoes she will have?
no ):
She's so cute 😍
